I listen I was very mad at her and I was just talking out of anger. I didn't really mean that and for that I am sorry. 1 I would never ever ever hit a woman. 2 we all say things we don't mean sometimes. The thing is to be able to realize that you have done wrong and be able to say you know what "I'm Sorry" and mean it not just say it and that I am. OK, I know this is going to seem like a long diatribe but stick with me.
As someone who was FIRED from job after being "too out" (my boss's words) at work, I find people accusing me of being homophobic quite insulting. (I was official fired for "Poor Job Performance" after several employees refused to work with me.)

When I filed a complaint with the California Dept. of Fair Labor & Housing, my "case worker" asked "why did you tell them you were gay?"
I explained that someone at work inquired if I had a girlfriend. And I answered truthfully.
During subsequent conversations, he repeatedly asked why I said anything about being gay.
He then said "Well I don't talk about my sex life at work"!
To which I responded "Stating I am gay is not talking about my "sex life" any more than someone else mentioning their spouse or announcing a pregnancy is talking about sex".

He stated that I shouldn't have said anything if they couldn't "tell I was gay". Especially if they might be upset by my being gay.
I tried explaining to him that just because someone doesn't know I'm Jewish or Mexican etc., why should I hide these basic facts about myself? He then said "I have many cases I'm working on- I'll get back to you".

I later called him to inquire about my case (this was a year later). He stated that my case was closed- I stated that I hadn't heard back from them and he told me to hold on- he put the phone down- (not on hold) and I heard him open a file drawer- he picked up the phone and said "I have your file right here, I've been working on your case today".

Long story short- I received a letter stating that I had no proof and that my former employers claimed I made "inappropriate and offensive remarks at work". When I called my Case worker and asked "if I had made any inappropriate comments, why wasn't I fired for sexual harassment?" He said "Just saying you are gay, someone could find offensive".
I of course reported his comments to his supervisor who told me she found that surprising because he handles many gay & lesbian cases. To which I asked "how many has found in favor of?".

I reported this to every Gay & Lesbian Rights Organization I could find and if I received a response at all, it was "your case is too hard to prove and/or your case is not big enough".
So I finally gave up and moved on- but let me tell you, being fired is extremely stressful. Being fired due to outright bigotry and ignorance and then being told "there is nothing you can do" is devastating.

BTW I am a 40 year old gay man who has been out since I was 16. I have never felt that my sexual identity has hurt me or held me back in my professional life, until this incident.

I am so sorry to hear that this happened to you. Wrong is just wrong! I am glad that you followed up on it as you did, but sorry that the system treated you the way it did. We think that the system works as it should all the time, but unfortunately it does not some of the time (more often than we might think) and you got caught in one of those times. I hope what this has meant for you is that you have found a much better job with more wonderful coworkers who can appreciate you for who you are!

I don't condone violence against anyone, man or woman. The point I was trying to make was regarding the hypocrisy of people saying "She's a WOMAN!" "A man can't say that to a WOMAN!"

Peeler apologized, He was PISSED!
I know from very real experience how angry you can become at a boss who is unwilling to hear your point of view, dismisses you condescendingly and fires you without any real cause!

Pay attention to movies, TV etc.
Look how many times a WOMAN slaps (physical violence) a MAN for making a (verbal) comment! Now show a MAN threaten to hit a woman and people are up in arms.

But as an openly gay man (who probably loves himself a little TOO much by the way- thank you for asking), who was raised by a mother and 5 sisters.
I think I have a pretty liberal, feminist attitude.

I'm just not one to say "if you're not part of the community - you can't say certain things". I believe if it's OK for 1 person to say something it's OK for everyone (how's that for liberal). Peeler has proven to be a friend of the community and I would give him an award (much like GLAAD did to Kathy Griffin)-(it hurts doesn't Jackie)- (I guess GLAAD is homophobic too) long before I would give one to Jackie!

Nice to see you over from IMDB. I have read LiaminLB's post's with interest. I don't see how someone could call someone selfhating without personally knowing them. I am a lesbian, and I think Jackie was so wrong in that situation. She is at the very least responsible for what is said in her gym, especially about paying clients. She did not handle Peeler in any professional way. As the trainer of a client who had done nothing to deserve such sexual comments being said about them, he had the responsibility to ask what had actually happened. He stood up for his breast cancer survivor client, who is extremely famous in the fitness world. If Jackie did not know who she was, then she is very ill informed about her own field. She had been on most major fitness magazines, and in quite a few articles. Since this woman being unhappy could have negatively affected Peeler's future, the gym's future, and how they are all percieved in the fitness world, he had a duty to ask, but I think he did it out of human decency.
As for LiaminLB, I find their comments, well thought out, well phrased, and even tempered.(Spelling is quite exceptional also.)
Just a foot note, lesbians and gays are unique as any other group, and insulting each other, and typing each other because you don't like what someone feels, is what I thought we were trying to get away from.
