Well after cleaning I was smelling of Pine Sol and after cooking I was covered with spaghetti sauce...not so sexy....... Add a hot flash to that and well, you get the picture...not very pretty!

That's why God made showers and bathtubs...a little candle light, maybe some bubbles, a little Al Green or Kenny G, some St. John's Wart (NOT in the tub, for the hot flash)...are you getting the picture? Maybe we should schedule you an appointment for once a day verses once a week.

Kids today are so much more knowledgeable about things than I was at their age. The girls and the boys for the most part were really good because their parents were here. Alex doesn't come to the party but she was home and would bring out stuff like ice or cokes or whatever but she could see from the kitchen windows and she commented on how the kids would kind of dance around each other and she could tell from the body language which boy like this one certain girl.

I had a local burger place come over and cook the burgers and dogs (no, I didn't cook the cat) and the kids were very polite about saying Thank you and No sir or Yes sir. They aren't my kids but they sign a contract when they start the group that everyone will be respectful and kind. It's funny to watch them begin to call each other on stuff. Like one guy is always getting told, "Dude, you need to be polite. That sounded rude..." His mom said that she about fainted on day when she asked him a question and he said yes instead of grunting something at her. Yea!!

I don't know...I've heard it does but I don't know for sure.

Here's a lttle tidbit....the schools in my county were trying to implement Sex Ed for students in 9th grade (my son is going to 9th grade next year) So anyway, they sent some info home several months ago explaining the content and attached was a permission slip to sign for your child to participate. I prefer to talk openly and honestly to my kids about sex but see no harm in further discussion from an outside source...so I signed. Got a letter yesterday saying the program has been scrapped because "many parents" (translation: a few bible beaters) felt that offering info on condoms, STDs, unplanned pregnancy and OMG! alternative lifestyles was inappropriate and only encourages sexual activity and experimentation with homosexuality.

The schools here teach abstinence based sex ed but also incorporate the rest. I have spoken at two schools but was given a contract stating I couldn't discuss homosexuality. So I signed it and didn't speak about it directly but constantly referred to my girlfriend and the commitment we have with each other and how love is the most important aspect of sharing the most precious, vulnerable parts of yourself with someone else. Of course the kids are going to ask, "Well, are you gay?" And I told them I was and for the next 20 min. we talked about me and in a round about way talked about being gay, how I knew, did I ever date guys, when did I know, what did my family think. It was very good and the kids seemed to understand that you can't make someone gay anymore than you can make someone straight. You can hide but it doesn't change.

Like I said I only spoke at two schools and never got asked again...

My first thought when I originally got the info several months ago, was shouldn't we be talking about this stuff before 9th grade? I've been talking to my kids since they were 5 or 6 years old. I answer their questions as they come along and do so in a way that encourages them to freely ask more. You just know that those parents that oppose Sex Ed are not talking to their kids....it is such a shame, really.

I think the phrase that surprised me the most was "friends with benefits". When I was in high school, it was the norm for one to be a virgin. Now the norm is for one to NOT be a virgin and if you are then what is wrong with you. I think it is so important to teach that sex is an expression of love that you feel for that someone special, not just another activity to participate in like poker or drama or whatever. The whole concept of "making love" has been replaced with "getting off" and there is no sense that one is giving away parts of themselves they will never get back. Girls ,particularly, feel such low self esteem during the teen years and the whole sexual experience with any and everyone, I think, just adds to that feeling. I am amazed that oral sex is seen as not a big deal. I've asked kids before who has and who hasn't had sex and if they have "only" had oral sex, they say they haven't had any sex at all. Wow!

Yeah, we have a former President who feels the same way. It's been 200 years since I was in High School (in Texas) and back then it was accepted that if you had a boyfriend it was okay to have sex but a girl was forever branded a slut if she just "hooked up" with a boy. Now days that seems to be perfectly acceptable. But we don't need no stinkin Sex Ed!

I guess I'm just very sensitive to the subject because my first child was born when I was just 17. I had gone to my family Dr. just weeks before becoming sexually active to ask for birth control pills...He refused to prescribe them without my parents consent. I am now 47 and my oldest will turn 30 this summer...WOW! It all turned out just fine for us, but we are not the norm.

I think parents have to take a role in discussing sex with their kids and they should read about what the kids are involved with now days. It has changed SOOO much even in the last 10yrs. Alex and I started dating back in the dark ages and we dated for about 2 weeks before we kissed and it was a good six months before we had sex. It wasn't that we didn't want to but we talked and decided for us that we wanted to wait to make sure that we loved each other beyond just the warm fuzzy feelings and that we wanted to be committed to each other for the rest of our lives. That worked for us but may not for someone else. And we, too, are not the norm.

Well, DrB....I guess it's time to put that Rambo outfit back on and get ready for this shindig tonight. Gotta go pick up the cake and all the other stuff....I'm really excited because my son has been on Honor Roll every grading period in Middle School....and he's going to be recognized for that this evening at the ceremony.....

Congrats!!! I have to run as well, the pool men are coming and are going to put a big Texas star in the bottom of the pool so that should take all month. Have fun tonight. I have have to watch Work Out to see what Jackie found in the phone. They are having a couple of previous shows first I noticed...so I have have to watch the Mom one to see the glasses off and on in the car that Shadow pointed out. Dr. Weil says it does but that it takes 6 to 8 weeks to get into your system. Dr. Weil is wonderful. Fish Oil is also shown to be as effective as anti-depressents and mood stablilizers. Mayo Clinic has info 'bout that.

of others. They will twist whatever it is they find. I know another ploy

which can only happen on the private side to this board maybe, I am not

a friend. I know people use to do that from Usenet also. I doubt this

board is that insecure. Some people are so very mean and rude. It is

I think if you go back and read shadowrider, you will see that most are nice until some attack and use inuendo and assumptions to belittle and breakdown those who have legitimate concerns or grips. I first got here to defend DrB's honor as her wife and have to admit that I watch the boards now just to see who is going to slam who and make sure D is not one of them. She has lost three good friends from the boards because there are those that slander and attack for the sake of making themselves look and feel better and that is a shame.

sigh.....I have been here for this thing since the beginning. I have written letters to sponsors signed the petition, and tried to have others sign it. I have been committed and remain very involved.......today I mentioned something that i heard, and was told that i was just trying to stir things up AGAIN...... You must have me confused with some one else. I don't attack or disrespect people on this board. When I said what I had heard, it was with a sincere heart......Please don't attack me. In defense of Lyn and Alex of La rag mag. In the beginning,I wrote to them with the news of the petition, and asked for their help. These guys did a wonderful job of supporting our cause. They published the petition, and ran many good stories giving great publicity to our cause.....One has only to go over to the sight(la rag mag) to see their amazing reporting, and photos of this cause.....because of it hundreds and hundreds of people left comments hundreds more got the news, and found the petition and signed it.
Last week I wrote to Alex to thank both he and Lyn for all of the support,and to tell the how deeply grateful I was. Alex said that it was his pleasure. He then mentioned that he and Lyn had heard whispers that the show was being picked up despite falling sponsors. I asked him what whispers meant. He told me that he and Lyn had heard from multiple sources, even months ago that the show was being picked up for season 4, and that was all that he could say...Reporters don't give sources.
why can't we just take the high road, and acknowledge the good in each other, and the support that they make to our well being.??
Now, on a Feeling level, i have some sadness, and i will admit, that my feelings have been hurt. But I am going to stand tall and remain grateful to Lyn and Alex for all the help that they gave. they are good people.as am I. Thank you. I am done here.

WW, I didn't think you were refering to me but there are some who would because they want to think the worst about everyone they can't control or silence. I, like you, am done here and I have told DrB I don't want her here anymore either. Today someone did a search of us and did or didn't find what they wanted so sent out an email or whatever to discredit and defame DrB and myself. I understand that there are those who are passionate about posting or blogging but when you take it to this level, you have gone to far. For those who received the email, don't believe everything you read. For those who have been stalked in the past, know why people should be careful what they share.
