I would never post a "personal message" on the board. I thought it was a personally unforgivable act, but that's fine. I will continue as if it never happened, and will continue to amuse you, like some dancing Bear, as Note once observed.

Saturday morning I was in good ol' Balmer, and I decided I was looking a little shaggy, so I got a haircut before that evening's Yankees-Orioles game. The barber had done the usual number one guard on the sides and back, and I gave it a good look before telling him to just give me a crew cut. I haven't had it that short since I was a kid, and got one to obliterate the bad punk do I was sporting at the time.

I looked good, and more importantly, I felt like a weight had been lifted. That night I wore my Red Sox cap, Drew wore his Orioles cap, and Denny sported Washington colors. I was with my family, watching a game I loved, and our little online spat seemed so damn dumb to me. Anybody can possess a computer, and every last one of us has an opinion. We'll both continue to be who we are, and that's fine. I won't put you on ignore as that would be treating you differently, so have fun.

I don't have to go online, but I do, and you don't have to either. I'm not going to say I won't interact with you, because, obviously, I just did, so we'll just continue to be who we are. No apologies. No remorse.

I hope you're laughing now.

A little while ago we were discussing musicals here, so I guess this is apprpopriate. Friday night I took the guys to see "1776" at the Olney theater here, and I wanted to see if anyone else had seen the play, and what you thought if it, if you had. The production here was very good, and the guys loved it.

I saw it first when it was on Broadway, and I enjoyed it. I had wanted to see "Promises, Promises", and, at first I was dissapointed that we went to "1776" instead, but I ended up enjoying it.

The film was a dud, but that's true of many shows, so I would enjoy hearing your opinions on either the play, or the film.

At least they never subjected us to a film of "Promises, Promises", because, while I loved it on stage, I knew it would be a bad film. After all, I knew the film of "1776" would be a dog, and I was right. There are just things that work on stage, and die on film.

The Yankees didn't go very far Saturday night, as the Orioles stomped them. It was a beautiful night, Drew's team won, and all was right with the world.

Then Sunday afternon the shoe was on the other foot, as the Yanks won, and the weather was intolerable. The good thing was that I wore my Sox cap, and the two games ended up with the Red Sox keeping their place atop the Eastern division.

You guys won't believe it but I spent most of yesterday reading your posts and trying to get an Avatar. Was very amused by the posts but very unsuccessful with the Avatar. Had trouble sleeping last night so gave the Avatar thing another try (after all, KristlKrost has one that even sparkles, I should be able to get one that just sits there!) and, ta-da I have an Avatar!!! I know, no big deal to you pros, but I have only been at this stuff for less than a month, great big deal for me!

As you all will get to know, computers are not the only thing I know almost nothing about, I also (real confession time here) know squat about cooking! I'm always willing to learn new things though, so hope to learn much from the show and you all. To be honest, when the cheftestants describe what they have made, most of it is greek to me. And will someone please tell me what miso is? I hear so much about it but have never heard of the stuff before (I take it that it is sweet?) blink.gif

Miso is a thick paste used for sauces and spreads, pickling vegetables or meats, and mixing with soup stock, (but don't let it boil).http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Japanese Miso is still very widely used in Japan, both in traditional and modern cooking, and has been gaining world-wide interest. Miso is typically salty, but its flavor and aroma depend on various factors in the ingredients and fermentation process. Different varieties of miso have been described as salty, sweet, earthy, fruity, and savoury, and there is an extremely wide variety of miso available.
I think the bacon had a sweet miso glaze. The type in soups is earthy and the marinade for grilled meats is savoury, but this is all second hand information from the internet as I do not cook with the paste.. yet anyway.. blush.gif

I liked some of the people in the movie, but thought it was a big bore! Good lord...it's such a dramatic, moving piece in person and they just ruined it. Of course, I'm biased. I played in it twice...in 1976 with a matinee on July 4 talk about goosebumps at the end. I was very young the first time and middle aged the second time. It was thrilling both times, and I had tears in my eyes every night as they rang the bell during the signing ceremony.

What role did you play? I think you would have made a devilishly handsome Thomas Jefferson, myself.

I knew it would be an awful film because it just didn't have the stirring songs and, the film trained, and charismatic, lead actor, that "Fiddler on the Roof" had, when it made it's way to film. It's why "Fiddler" is so powerful, and "1776" was dead on arrival.

By the way, "Hot Fuzz" is on cable, and I figured out why Simon Pegg is so bad in "Run, Fatboy, Run". I think Pegg had Nick Frost in mind when he wrote "Fatboy", and he just isn't able to pull off that kind of thing like Frost can. And if Nick didn't star in it, then Pegg should have begged him to co-star in it. Pegg is always better with Nick at his side.

I really have no experience with venison. I know if you cook catfish you can soak it in buttermilk to cut the gaminess. I'm not certain that would work with venison though.

The best thing I can say is keep it in the fridge and let it rest. The gaminess comes from the blood that the meat is retaining. If you let it rest that could cut it.

Anyone else have any ideas?

A good soak in buttermilk will help cut the gameyness...also making sausage with it after the soak makes for fine eating.

THE THING I FIND ODD ABOUT THIS IS

NOW WHO'S BEING CONTRADICTORY ???????

NOT SURE ABOUT ANYONE ELSE

BUT I FIND THAT AMUSING laugh.gif

AND HAVE JOKED ABOUT IT ...EVERY TIME

ONCE AGAIN POINITING OUT......IF THINGS AREN'T THIER WAY

IT'S WRONG

AND THEY WILL DO THIER BEST TO "PUSH" IT THIER WAY

NOW TELL ME

WHO IS THE REAL ANARCIST HERE?

WAS I REALLY THE ONE WHO ATTACKED?

PRETTY MUCH NOT

AND I DO FEEL EVEN IF THE BBB WERE TO INTERVEIN

THEY WOULD COME TO THE SAME CONCLUSION

MIGHT I ALSO ADD

GOING BACK TO THAT BLOWOUT IN THE PR OT BOARD

IT WAS WITNESSED BY MANY.............

THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD HAVE MY BACK

BUT I TOLD THEM NO..............

THE TARGET IS ME NOW

AND GUESS WHAT........................

I WAS RIGHT biggrin.gif

I DO APOLOGISE TO YOU THOUGH WAJ

AS YOU HAVE BECOME AN INNOCENT BYSTANDER

YOU KNOW VERY WELL I HAVE APPRECIATED ALL

THE COLOR YOU'VE ADDED TO THE BOARDS

AND I GUESS BY JUMPING IN ON SOME CONVERSATIONS

THEY MAY HAVE GOT THE WRONG IDEA

AND THOUGHT WE MAY HAVE HAD SOME KIND OF ALLIANCE

I GOING TO CLEAR THE AIR NOW

THAT WAJ IS WAJ ........THE COLOR MAN OF THE BOARDS

AND HAS HAD NO OFF BOARD ASSOCIATION WITH ME

SO CONDEM ME IF YOU WILL IGNORE ME IF YOU MUST

WAJ IS NOT PART OF THIS

THE TARGET IS ME

SO GO AHEAD

TAKE YOUR BEST SHOTS

I CAN TAKE IT biggrin.gif

We used to go to Cedar Point every summer when I was growing up in Akron & Canton, and the rides (especially the coasters) were always the first things I made a dash for. I'm more a fan of the throw-you-around-in-your-seat-till-you're-black-and-blue wooden coasters than the smoother, more streamlined metal ones, but all coasters are beloved AFAIC.

We also used to go to Geauga Lake every summer, and I was really torn up to learn that GL closed its doors with last season, and will be selling its rides off to other parks. Sadly, I may never experience The Raging Wolf Bobs or The Texas Twister again. sad.gif

I am a Cedar point fanatic. Every two or so years they add something else. It's really an amusement park for the big kids. Its a really great take.

Just like Balco boy Barry Bonds. A-Rod dissapears in the post season. My only real memory of Alex is when he tried to slap the ball out of a Red Sox player's mitt as he ran down the first base line. Otherwise I think his average for the post season is about a buck fifty.

In fact, Bonds never did much until he became two and a half men after doing his Balco thing. His average until then was about the same as A-Rod's.

But at least they were complete players during the season. Giambi could hit, but he was always a liability in the field, and not a player I would pay that kind of money for. I was not a huge fan of Tino Martinez, but at least he could catch and throw.

I have a soft part in my heart for that Musical..... I played Dr. Lyman Hall the Delegate from Ga. back in 1976. wub.gif I liked the movie as well was not the same as stage but like I said I have a soft part in my heart movie or stage. blush.gif

You would think so, wouldn't you? Strangely enough I've had some of the worst crab cakes in Maryland. It's a mystery.

Me too, and I am always puzzled by it. I am aparently from the same area you are, do you recommend the play at Olney theatre? Is it still playing? Definitely my neck of the woods.

That's where we saw it! Yes, it's a real good company, and is well done. I hadn't seen it for awhile, and we all had fun. My hubby and grandson had not seen the piece, so I felt they would enjoy it, and they did. A lot.

Where are you located, if I may ask? I'm in the DuPont Circle area, myself.

Oh, by the way, they used to have a really fine version of a nontraditional crab cake at New Heights, up on Calvert street. I haven't been for a bit, so I don't know if it's still on the menu, but their chef's version had bits of pineapple and jalepeno in it. I know it sounds gross, but it was quite tasty.

Wow! Two of my favorite men have been in this play. That is outstanding in it's unusuality. I couldn't get that kind of response for anything that is such a pronounced stage piece, I would think. Most people remember it, if at all, from the bad film. I'm now glad I asked.

In short, yes. And ditto. smile.gif

And with that, g'night, all. Four more days, and I find out if my job is one of the ones cut in the latest, greatest and most extensive tiers in Media General's historic Carousel of Layoffs.

Well, if it helps any, I'll have my fingers crossed, and will be putting out all the positive energy your way that I can. I was the Bell Captain at the Holiday Inn Capital when the franchise changed management, and I split before they could tell me to leave. Six months later all the people I worked with were gone, so I made it out just in time. I think it's awful to work so hard and be shown the door.

You'll be in my thoughts.

OHMG.... Do you know Darrel Willis???
My ex used to work there years ago.

Norman Van Der Slys????

It's been over 11 years since I was there. What departments did these guys work in? I was a front of the house man, and, if they were in Sales or accounting, I probably wouldn't remember them, even if they were there when I was.

I'm pretty sure it was called The Mutiny.... The Enterprise is orbiting a planet and it turns out it was a penial coliny the spirits of the prisoners take over Data and a few others and try and take over the Enterprise.... hope that helps I was a cutie back then... lol

No it would have been way before that.
He's s 43 and he said in his 20s I think.
But he and Norman used to be in a band called Interval in the 80s.

It was pretty popular locally.....930 club and all.....But now Norman is in 7 Door Sedan.
You might see them around DC....He was also in the Vampire Bunnies....Norman has the recording studio and all in his house right in or near to downtown DC....A big old rambling Victorian.

This is the band Norman is in now.
They are really good....You might know some of the peeps they know.....Jamie Holiday????
Also the Stuckey rich guy...From the Stuckey restaurants.

They even used to hang with Henry Rollins.
Good stuff...Kick arse.

Okay, now I kinda, sorta remember him. Good taste in music, and he used to talk about Henry, which I thought was interesting since I knew Henry when he used to work in Georgetown, at an ice cream shop. We weren't close. I was too busy trying to remodel a house, and have a life with my, then hubby, Ron.

If it's who I think, then he was a good guy, though. I was older than him, and I may have seemed even older to him, because my hubby was 15 years older than I, and I just didn't haunt the clubs like I did in the 70's. Maybe I should have taken the time to know him better.

What do you mean by "back then"? I still think you're a cutie. In fact, I think you're damn fine.

And I will get that episode and watch it.

I also remember you, AI and I having a conversation about punk rock a while back. I was amazed at all the folks that the three of us knew in common. Yep. Yep. Yep. It is a small world.
