They're offering everyone buyout packages--a week's pay for every year of service, so for me, 8 weeks pay wouldn't even pay the basics for long enough to find something else. I just hope they get enough who take the severance package so they don't have to resort to involuntary layoffs. We should find out at the end of this week whether that will be necessary or not.

Hopefully I won't need them, but I'm keeping the kleenex close, and the rolaids closer!

Grace, you know I don't "do" colorized films. It's so not right. After all, I remember seeing a colorized Sinatra film, where they gave him brown eyes. That's right, the gave Ol' Blue Eyes brown eyes, and that just proved how wrong it is to tamper with classic black and white films.

I think ours was a 5 point something. Not a biggie but it only happens every 3 or 4 years in my neck of the woods.
As far as the crab goes, I just boiled it. I have my boys completely spoiled when it comes to crab. I cook it and clean it out of the shells, remove the cartilage.... Throw it into a bowl and then prepare a couple of dipping sauces. Garlic butter, cajun butter. All butter based sauces. So when it's time for dinner it's just a matter of getting the butter sauces ready. Add a little greek spaghetti and it's artery clogging time. We just keep the bowl of crab meat in the middle and dip at will. Although it's a little bit of work for me in the beginning, clean up is a whole lot easier.

Padma STINKS! One of the WORST TV hosts ever. It's because of her that i contemplate NOT watching the show. She thinks she knows everything about food but she knows JACK CRAP!! Bring Katie Lee Joel back. She was MUCH better than Padma.....a MILLION times better. Or at least find a better host than Padma. She really ruins the show.

How is it that you're giving tests? On a board? I don't get it. Are you conducting some educational research? Are you going to publish your results?

I'm just cornmuffinflummoxed about this. I didn't think when I went on a board that I would be tested. So, color me silly!!

For better or worse, some long-time posters on Net message boards do occasionally garner a certain kind of logic-defying "celebrity," albeit generally only in the specific circle in which they rotate.

Less of a "following" in the legitimate sense of the word, it's more a matter of "factions," since a poster's waxing and waning popularity usually centers first around a topic that divides opinions along clear lines (i.e "Marcel was pranked" versus "Marcel was attacked"), and secondarily along more stylistic/colloquial lines (someone who uses current or even quaintly antiquated "buzz words," jargon and more clownish or [and immense apologies for the use of this term, but I can't think of a better one atm] "dumbed down" language).

Once someone has found a kinship with someone else in the posting fore, it usually follows that an alliance is formed, wittingly or unwittingly, and those who have found kinship tend to stick together through thick and thin, and they sometimes tend toward rabidly defended allegiances.

That's not to say that's always the case. I've just been on a lot of message boards, and have seen it happen more than once. A lot.

I'm not a fan of tests, per se, especially not on the Net, where I go to escape my day and generally have fun. I think we can engage and challenge each other without having to be vicious, spiteful, brutal or superior. At least I'd hope that to be the case.

To be honest, I balked at the same thing you did. Why? Because the Internet has given so many of us the unlimited opportunity to say things we normally wouldn't say face-to-face, and when we're called on the carpet for something we've said, there's a tendency to backpeddle. Something inciteful (intentionally or unintentionally, depending on perception) becomes a "test" because rather than admit fault in the poster's intent, it's much easier to find fault with the subjects' perception of it.

Of course, I'm probably just being far too clinical about all of this.

Glad its not as difficult to do as it once was, or I still would not have an avatar! As it is I pretty much bungled around and tired a bunch of different things until something worked. I think I just lucked out!
