I love Rollins. Really smart guy. Go to see his spoken word anytime he's in town.

I remember when Henry said he was going to L.A. to join Black Flag. The next time Black Flag came to town there were terrible fights in the mosh pit, and a friend of mine had his arm broken.

I cut out the club life for quite a long time after that, but I knew that Rollins was a really bright, with it, kind of guy. I'm happy to see him doing so well, and I've always admired him.

Will say a prayer for ya Lia. Cant be easy, waiting to see if your job is safe, but you know you can IM,email or even call me if ya want.

Well, if it helps any, I'll have my fingers crossed, and will be putting out all the positive energy your way that I can. I was the Bell Captain at the Holiday Inn Capital when the franchise changed management, and I split before they could tell me to leave. Six months later all the people I worked with were gone, so I made it out just in time. I think it's awful to work so hard and be shown the door.

You'll be in my thoughts.

We went through something very similar with my dad years ago.

He worked for Peabody Coal Company for 20+ years. After a physical, the Dr decided my dads heart needed further testing. Fast forward 48 hours later and my dad is told he must have heart surgery ASAP. They had found a birth defect that didnt get picked up on until then and it was very serious. Two surgeries later,he is told to put in for retirement,no way he can do that type of work ever again.

Less then six months later, the mines shut down.

My dad was able to retire with full benefits and his pension wasnt cut short like many of the other employees had been. He was very lucky but it was a pretty sh!tty thing to do to the other people.

I wish Lia all the best and I hope those that do lose their job can find better ones very soon.

Dang,I over shared. Slapping my own wrist, lol.

I don't think you can "over share" . Everything you and others post paint pictures of how you relate in this world of ours....pictures that I enjoy as it allows me to better know you. I see you as a compassionate person; one who cares about others and in today's world that is special in my book. Thank you for sharing.

Luckily I had a 401K plan, and I had invested wisely, so I could cash it out and live quite well while I hunted for another job. I didn't want to cash it out, but it was a matter of survival, and it needed to be done.

There are a lot of people out there who have similar stories, which is why Lia and her job seem so important to me. By and by, how is your dad doing now? in the year after I quit Holiday Inn I lost both my father and my Ron to heart attacks, so I find the welfare of other friend's parents and loved ones to be just as important.

I hate to say it but a lot of friends and acquaintances have had trouble negotiating middle age. At least they had the luxury of arriving to middle age. There were times in the early 80's when I thought AIDS would wipe out my entire generation.

I know I've said that I'm not a real hockey fan, but The Caps are playing the Flyers in a deciding game of the Stanley Cup Eastern league championship series tonight and I'm taking Denny and Drew to see it.

My problem with hockey is I can't watch it on TV, as my eyes just aren't good enough ,and my knowledge of the game is spotty, at best. The thing is this stuff just never happens for the Caps, and I think it's important to see it. Denny is a fan, and when the Caps lost something like 75% of their first 20 games he thought it was over.

And you can trust me when I say these tickets weren't cheap, but. like I said, how often can you give your kid something like this? I'm optimistic, and I'm sure that, no matter what, we'll have a good time. I'm really not a fan, but it's a great sport to see live. Wish us luck.

Hold on a second. You don't like David Boreanaz ? I am a huge "Buffy" fan, and I loved to love Angel just as much as I loved to hate him when he was evil. Then again, I loved James Marsden's Spike, too.

There is talk of a film. I just hope they make it before it's too late.

The only actor who really creeps me out is Tom Cruise, which is kind of weird when I maintain that "Risky Business" is one of the finest movies concerning coming of age that are out there.

As far as actresses go I would have to say that I can't watch Kirstie Alley. I don't know what it is, exactly, but anything after her brief role in the "Star Trek" series just makes my skin crawl off me ,and out the door.

Thanks too, to you and Brillke, for your words on the layoffs we're experiencing. They're offering everyone buyout packages--a week's pay for every year of service, so for me, 8 weeks pay wouldn't even pay the basics for long enough to find something else. I just hope they get enough who take the severance package so they don't have to resort to involuntary layoffs. We should find out at the end of this week whether that will be necessary or not.

Hopefully I won't need them, but I'm keeping the kleenex close, and the rolaids closer!

Grace, you know I don't "do" colorized films. It's so not right. After all, I remember seeing a colorized Sinatra film, where they gave him brown eyes. That's right, the gave Ol' Blue Eyes brown eyes, and that just proved how wrong it is to tamper with classic black and white films.

ITA. Whoever came up with the bright idea to colorize a perfectly fine black & white film should be hanged from the highest tree. It's unnatural. Gloria in that neon green dress in "It's a Wonderful Life" should have been their first clue.

BTW, Actor, I love Forest Whitaker. You lucky dog. The only thing they ever film around here are Lincoln movies. With the exception of Legally Blonde II, because our Capitol is so awesome.

Just to get this on the OT board. Once while shopping and being cut off by someone with a "WWJD" bumper sticker, I was approached by a woman who appeared to be down on her luck. She had initially approaced the "WWJD" woman and was pushed aside. She gave me her sob story and I gave her $10. As I am a debit card maniac, I rarely have cash on me. As I walked by the "WWJD" woman I thought "yeah lady, WWJD?". It certainly ticked me off that day and has only added to my totally unfair opinion (profiling here) of some christians hypocrasy.

In one of my fav movies, "Breaker Morant" a priest asks Morant if he'd like him to say something. Morant states that he's a pagan. His junion officer asks him what is a pagan. I am paraphrasing here, so Actor, please forgive any misquote. " A pagan is a person who has a hard time believing there is a divine being dispensing justice" to which the junior officer states, "Well, I'm a pagan too". Exactly.
Ok, off my soap box.

FYI, KK, I did not mix the oyster sauce with the relish. You're wicked.

This has absolutely nothing to do with TC, or even with food in general, but since I'm absolutely bonkers about Eddie Izzard, I thought this little blurb our paper published yesterday was really brilliant:

The Tampa Tribune

Published: April 21, 2008

British comedian Eddie Izzard, whose acting career is taking off, is eyeing yet another possible career: politician.

Izzard, who plays Wayne Malloy in FX's "The Riches," told Newsweek he sees himself getting into European politics at some point.

"We've got to make it work in Europe," the comedian, 46, told the magazine for its issue hitting newsstands today. "People are very worried about sovereignty and the loss of sovereignty. I think the stakes are if we don't make the European Union work, then the world is screwed. End of story."

Here's the full Newsweek article, if anyone's a beekeeper like me. wink.gif

As far as the crab goes, I just boiled it. I have my boys completely spoiled when it comes to crab. I cook it and clean it out of the shells, remove the cartilage.... Throw it into a bowl and then prepare a couple of dipping sauces. Garlic butter, cajun butter. All butter based sauces. So when it's time for dinner it's just a matter of getting the butter sauces ready. Add a little greek spaghetti and it's artery clogging time. We just keep the bowl of crab meat in the middle and dip at will. Although it's a little bit of work for me in the beginning, clean up is a whole lot easier.

Dear chucole,
I'm not sure where you are in Illinois, but I'm figuring it's mid-state. The earthquake was 5.2 at 4:36 a.m. Friday, with an aftershock of 4.8 around noon Friday and another aftershock of 4.2 Monday in the wee, wee hours.

No earthquake like this in the New Madrid fault since 1968. And it wasn't actually the New Madrid fault . . . It was the Wabash Valley seismic zone (whatever that means), epicenter at West Salem, Illinois.

I still haven't checked my china cabinet for damage. EVERYBODY in my house woke up. I had furniture handles clacking. I did not like, I did not like it . . . not one bit at all.

Bring Katie Lee Joel back. She was MUCH better than Padma.....a MILLION times better. Or at least find a better host than Padma. She really ruins the show.

Can't say I've seen a lot of TV hosts . . . although I do adore Bob Barker. But I've never gotten so close as to determine if they stink.

As far as ruining the show, I'm thinking the cheftestants and their behavior and their seemingly shallow culinary skills are doing a bang-up job of that . . . and they don't need any help at this time. smile.gif

EXACTLY WAJ

IT'S NOT LIKE BEAR HASN'T DONE IT BEFORE...

I RECALL MANY A TIME AGAINST MANY OTHER

VETERAN POSTERS WHEN HE WOULD DO IT

LATER TO APOLOGISE WITH SOME SOB STORY

SO ONE OF HIS FOLLOWERS WOULD BLOW

SOME SUNSHINE WHERE THERE IS NONE laugh.gif

THE THING I FIND ODD ABOUT THIS IS

SINCE A BLOWOUT IN THE PR'S OT BOARD

AND A SMALL TET TA TET IN TC'S BOMBED OUT BOARDS

WITH A BABY WHO'S AFRAID OF CORNERS

AND BEAR

BOTH OF THEM SAID THEY WEREN'T GONNA TALK TO ME ANYMORE

AND DIDN'T WANT ME TO RESPOND TO THEM

ONE EVEN SENT NASTY EMAILS

SAYING I WAS DEAD TO HER AND ANOTHER

ALSO GOING AS FAR TO SAY I WAS TRULY BLIND

BECAUSE I DIDN'T SEE THINGS HER WAY

SO FOR THE BETTER PART OF THE SEASON OF TC

I HAVEN'T........AND HAVE DONE MY USUAL THING

NOW IF YOU GO BACK AND REVIEW

YOU WILL FIND

THEY HAVE STALKED ME ON JUST ABOUT EVERY POST I'VE DONE

MIMICING WORDS....

AND BEAR HAS MADE IT A POINT TO JUMP IN EVERYCHANCE HE COULD laugh.gif

NOW WHO'S BEING CONTRADICTORY ???????

NOT SURE ABOUT ANYONE ELSE

BUT I FIND THAT AMUSING laugh.gif

AND HAVE JOKED ABOUT IT ...EVERY TIME

ONCE AGAIN POINITING OUT......IF THINGS AREN'T THIER WAY

IT'S WRONG

AND THEY WILL DO THIER BEST TO "PUSH" IT THIER WAY

NOW TELL ME

WHO IS THE REAL ANARCIST HERE?

WAS I REALLY THE ONE WHO ATTACKED?

PRETTY MUCH NOT

AND I DO FEEL EVEN IF THE BBB WERE TO INTERVEIN

THEY WOULD COME TO THE SAME CONCLUSION

MIGHT I ALSO ADD

GOING BACK TO THAT BLOWOUT IN THE PR OT BOARD

IT WAS WITNESSED BY MANY.............

THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD HAVE MY BACK

BUT I TOLD THEM NO..............

THE TARGET IS ME NOW

AND GUESS WHAT........................

I WAS RIGHT biggrin.gif

I DO APOLOGISE TO YOU THOUGH WAJ

AS YOU HAVE BECOME AN INNOCENT BYSTANDER

YOU KNOW VERY WELL I HAVE APPRECIATED ALL

THE COLOR YOU'VE ADDED TO THE BOARDS

AND I GUESS BY JUMPING IN ON SOME CONVERSATIONS

THEY MAY HAVE GOT THE WRONG IDEA

AND THOUGHT WE MAY HAVE HAD SOME KIND OF ALLIANCE

I GOING TO CLEAR THE AIR NOW

THAT WAJ IS WAJ ........THE COLOR MAN OF THE BOARDS

AND HAS HAD NO OFF BOARD ASSOCIATION WITH ME

SO CONDEM ME IF YOU WILL IGNORE ME IF YOU MUST

WAJ IS NOT PART OF THIS

THE TARGET IS ME

SO GO AHEAD

TAKE YOUR BEST SHOTS

I CAN TAKE IT biggrin.gif

TAKE CARE OVER THERE

ALOHA

HAVE FUN

NOW ALL I HAVE TO DO IS SIT AND WATCH THEM INCRIMINATE THEMSELVES EVEN MORE laugh.gif

So why, on earth, would anyone cyberstalk you??

We always have a big dinner and bring gifts. Mom doesnt need anything so we get her things like jumbo bags of her favorite candy or gag gifts like slippers shaped liked huge troll feet that growl when you walk.

Oh, brillke, that's the best. Mom never NEEDS anything, so get consumables or fun things that she wouldn't get herself . . . or things she WOULD get herself but amplify it!!

Good for you!!!! Sounds like great fun!!!

I WROTE IT AND STAND BY IT

PERHAPS IN THIS DAY AND AGE

WHAT WAS CONSIDERED ABNORMAL BEHAVIOR

PERHAPS A LESSON ON HOW THINGS HERE

TO ONLY SUIT

WHAT YOU HAVE IN THE WAY OF SENSIBILITIES

DON'T INTERPRET THAT INCORRECTLY

AS I WAS PARTICIPANT IN MANY TESTS HERE ON THE BOARDS

WHAT YOU ALL NEVER UNDERSTOOD

WAS WHEN I GIVE A TEST

IT ISN'T SO BLACK AND WHITE
The ink is black, the page is white
Together we learn to read and write
A child is black, a child is white
The whole world looks upon the sight, a beautiful sight

And now a child can understand
That this is the law of all the land, all the land

The world is black, the world is white
It turns by day and then by night
A child is black, a child is white
Together they grow to see the light, to see the light

And now at last we plainly see
We'll have a dance of Liberty, Liberty!

The world is black, the world is white
It turns by day and then by night
A child is black, a child is white
The whole world looks upon the sight, a beautiful sight

The world is black, the world is white
It turns by day and then by night
A child is black, a child is white

The world is black, the world is white

The whole world looks upon the sight, a beautiful sight

The world is black, the world is white
It turns by day and then by night
A child is black, a child is white
Together they grow to see the light, to see the light

C'mon, get it, get it
Ohh-ohhhh, yeah, yeah
Keep it up now, around the world
Little boys and little girls
Yeah, yeah-eah, oh-ohhh

THE WORLD COULD BE A BEAUTIFUL PLACE

JUST TAKES A LITTLE INSIGHT

TO THINK BEFORE YOU FIGHT

NOW I KNOW FOR SURE

NO ONE "GETS IT"

AND HUMANITY HAS A LONG LONG WAY TO GO

The road is long
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows when
But I'm strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my brother

So on we go
His welfare is of my concern
No burden is he to bear
We'll get there
For I know
He would not encumber me
He ain't heavy, he's my brother

If I'm laden at all
I'm laden with sadness
That everyone's heart
Isn't filled with the gladness
Of love for one another

It's a long, long road
From which there is no return
While we're on the way to there
Why not share
And the load
Doesn't weigh me down at all
He ain't heavy, he's my brother

He's my brother
He ain't heavy, he's my brother...

I KNOW FOR A FACT THERE WILL BE MORE

CRITISISM OF WHAT I POSTED ESP WITH YOU IC

HOPPING ON THE BANDWAGON...........

BUT PERHAPS BEFORE ANYONE ELSE DOES

ASK YOURSELF

JUST WHAT ABOUT THAT STATEMENT GOT TO YOU

AND WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT YOU?

WILL IT MAKE YOU APPEAR MORE HUMANE?

OR WILL AGREEING MAKE YOU SEEM INSANE?

YOU SEE ........... MOST OF YOU WILL NEVER BE LIKE ME

How is it that you're giving tests? On a board? I don't get it. Are you conducting some educational research? Are you going to publish your results?

I'm just cornmuffinflummoxed about this. I didn't think when I went on a board that I would be tested. So, color me silly!! blush.gif

So why, on earth, would anyone cyberstalk you??

And I guess I didn't know posters had followers.

For better or worse, some long-time posters on Net message boards do occasionally garner a certain kind of logic-defying "celebrity," albeit generally only in the specific circle in which they rotate.

Less of a "following" in the legitimate sense of the word, it's more a matter of "factions," since a poster's waxing and waning popularity usually centers first around a topic that divides opinions along clear lines (i.e "Marcel was pranked" versus "Marcel was attacked"), and secondarily along more stylistic/colloquial lines (someone who uses current or even quaintly antiquated "buzz words," jargon and more clownish or [and immense apologies for the use of this term, but I can't think of a better one atm] "dumbed down" language).

Once someone has found a kinship with someone else in the posting fore, it usually follows that an alliance is formed, wittingly or unwittingly, and those who have found kinship tend to stick together through thick and thin, and they sometimes tend toward rabidly defended allegiances.

That's not to say that's always the case. I've just been on a lot of message boards, and have seen it happen more than once. A lot.

I'm not a fan of tests, per se, especially not on the Net, where I go to escape my day and generally have fun. I think we can engage and challenge each other without having to be vicious, spiteful, brutal or superior. At least I'd hope that to be the case.

To be honest, I balked at the same thing you did. Why? Because the Internet has given so many of us the unlimited opportunity to say things we normally wouldn't say face-to-face, and when we're called on the carpet for something we've said, there's a tendency to backpeddle. Something inciteful (intentionally or unintentionally, depending on perception) becomes a "test" because rather than admit fault in the poster's intent, it's much easier to find fault with the subjects' perception of it.

Of course, I'm probably just being far too clinical about all of this.

I see . . . thank you, IronChef, for that enlightening explanation. I was cornmuffinflummoxed.

Yet, it doesn't follow to me that should someone say (as an example, and I am not inviting further comment on this, since I wasn't even watching when this happened) Marcel was pranked or Marcel was attacked . . . that those views wouldn't simply bring reasonable discussion to the board. So there would be an opportunity for all to voice their own opinions.

That seems to me to be great fodder for the boards. Everyone has their own point of view on what happened.

Now, to comment further on your explanation, just because I agree with you on one thing doesn't mean I agree with you on all things.

Does it???? blink.gif

Well, this sounds Hitlerish . . . in the way of blind following . . . and I don't agree with anything that doesn't allow one human being to think for him or her self.

What's wrong here?

Can't we learn from history?

Don't we see hatred and ugliness in history . . . that we cannot amend for the future?

Actually, IronChef, I don't think you're being clinical at all.

I think we've found another anonymous vehicle through which we can be hateful and wicked . . . it's like road rage.

And it's like you can pick your nose in your car, and no one will see it . . . and you can eat it, too.

Well, if I say something on a board, I'm still myself, the same person rapping on the keyboard and the same person who's going to brush my teeth tonight and the same person I'm going to work with tomorrow.

I cannot separate my cyberself from my drivingself from my realself. And I don't want to.

Because . . . in the end . . . and at the end of every day . . . I'm the one who's got to look myself in the mirror and say, "You did something good today." "You made a difference today." "You earned your oxygen today."

And I'm the one who's got to go to bed with myself.

I thought the word "test" not being so "black and white" referred to the "get to know you" questions that some posters circulate every now and then. How we answer the questions, such as "Who do you most admire?"or "What are your fave movies?" is a test of either who we are, or how we wish to be perceived. Those would be the "black and white" questions.
As far as backpeddling..
I have a temper that I'm not proud of. I have very seldom insulted posters who did nothing more than annoy me, but for that, I'm a sinner with plenty of company. I have never wished true harm on anyone, and if a poster cannot roll with the occasional verbal sparring on the internet, he has no business posting. I for one, do not burden myself with past arguments or guilt. I just keep trying to do better, and if I know I can't handle a conversation, I avoid it.

If I may add,

I think JME was being a bit sarcastic in his reply. Maybe he felt he was being attacked, scolded, persecuted(unfairly) or whatever and thats why he responded as he did. I read the original post and saw one thing,at least two others read it and saw something else. I was very surprised at both Bears and Lias reaction but if I had read it as they did,I would have been upset too. JME did say he was joking when he started and I also understood what he meant "kill it before it grows" and I in no way thought he meant to actually kill anything. If I had,I would have been all over it. To me,it was a simple misunderstanding and JME lashed out to do what we all do,get a swipe in before they strike again.

Of course, this is all speculation on my part and I in no way speak for JME,Lia or Bear.

I would also like to add,I took everyones advice and good news, its looking like the crate can stay in storage! Fido,no Im not gonna rename him tongue.gif is doing much better. Weve been a bit more forceful in correcting him, verbally that is,and it seems to be working. We were so worried that he would return to his skittish ways but he seems to be doing fine. Im proud to report that weve not had to throw away any shoes, clothing, magazine, toy or anything else due to Fido chewing them up since I took everyones advice. Oh,he is getting exercised more too and I think thats helping as well.

I would never post a "personal message" on the board. I thought it was a personally unforgivable act, but that's fine. I will continue as if it never happened, and will continue to amuse you, like some dancing Bear, as Note once observed.

Saturday morning I was in good ol' Balmer, and I decided I was looking a little shaggy, so I got a haircut before that evening's Yankees-Orioles game. The barber had done the usual number one guard on the sides and back, and I gave it a good look before telling him to just give me a crew cut. I haven't had it that short since I was a kid, and got one to obliterate the bad punk do I was sporting at the time.

I looked good, and more importantly, I felt like a weight had been lifted. That night I wore my Red Sox cap, Drew wore his Orioles cap, and Denny sported Washington colors. I was with my family, watching a game I loved, and our little online spat seemed so damn dumb to me. Anybody can possess a computer, and every last one of us has an opinion. We'll both continue to be who we are, and that's fine. I won't put you on ignore as that would be treating you differently, so have fun.

I don't have to go online, but I do, and you don't have to either. I'm not going to say I won't interact with you, because, obviously, I just did, so we'll just continue to be who we are. No apologies. No remorse.

I hope you're laughing now.
