NOT SURE ABOUT THE NAVY laugh.gif

Where can you find pleasure
Search the world for treasure
Learn science, technology
Where can you begin
To make your dreams all come true
On the land or on the sea
Where can you learn to fly
Play in sports or skindive
Study oceanography
Sign up for the big band
Or sit in the grand stand
When your team and others meet

In the Navy
Yes, you can sail the seven seas
In the Navy
Yes, you can put your mind at ease
In the Navy
Come on now people make a stand
In the Navy
Can't you see we need a hand
In the Navy
Come on protect the motherland
In the Navy
Come on and join your fellow man
In the Navy
Come on people and make a stand
In the Navy
In the Navy

They want you
They want you
They want you as a new recruit

If you like adventure
Don't you wait to enter
The recruiting office fast
Don't you hesitate,
There is no need to wait
They're signing up new seamen fast
Maybe you are too young to join up today
But don't you worry 'bout the thing
For I'm sure there will be
Always the good Navy
Protecting the land and sea

In the Navy
Yes, you can sail the seven seas
In the Navy
Yes, you can put your mind at ease
In the Navy
Come on now people make a stand
In the Navy
Can't you see we need a hand

They want you
They want you
They want you
As a new recruit

But, but, but
I'm afraid of water
Hey, hey, look men
I get seasick
Even watching it on the TV
They Want You
Oh my goodness
They Want you
What am I gonna do in a submarine
They Want you

I understand how you feel. My mother lives in a retirement apartment (not assisted living or a nursing home, despite the Life Alert ads using the terms interchangeably), and the building has a resident doctor whose sole function in life seems to be filling the residents full of pills. My mother doesn't use him, sees her own outside doctor, and is on a minimum of medications, and she's appalled at the mini-pharmacies her friends have.

It's good that you're standing by your choices and doing what feels right for you. The mental boost of being in charge of your own course will in the long run do you more physical good than a boatload of prescriptions.

Doctors mean well, but medication is not always the answer (and sometimes moderation in medication is the answer). Each medication has its own side effects (and you start adding those together and it can get ugly real fast!), they interplay with eachother, and an individual's reaction to them can change over time as well. Each of us must do what we feel is right for us individually (and must advocate for what we feel is right for those under our care - our children or aging parents etc.) and part of that is having a doctor that we trust and feel is on our team. I am blessed to have such a doctor!

I'm glad your mother has her own doctor - who can monitor and prescribe what she needs, but not beyond. My heart goes out to people who are on lots of medications which interfere with them enjoying and getting the most out of their life.

KK,

I want to let you and anyone else reading these post and slapping their heads that I in no way wanted to drag past BS up. You made a very strange reply to a very simple question. I commented and expressed concern. We all saw what happened after that. I stand by my every word. I hope everyone else can say the same.
I dont know who David is or why you would bring him up but as for the Christmas Eve BS,feel free to drag out any of my past sins. In fact,I will post that one myself. I doubted your mother passed away. The amount of time you spent on the boards and your even more overboard then usual attention seeking ways made me think it was a sick ploy to have all eyes on you. I never posted my theories on the boards but I did share them in an email and a PM. I later found out several others felt the same way. It got back to KK,a friend had sent a PM to someone he thought was a friend and that person told KK, that some people felt she had made the passing of her mother up and it got very ugly. I dont want to drag anymore BS up but feel free to go back and read for yourselves,if you want to. Theres nothing enjoyable in those post and we all sunk to levels that were pretty low. There are many post you cant read thanks to the BBB deleting them but one thread did get saved and I think you will see just how both sides were involved,it was not one sided.
Im not proud of some of my post but I own what I did. Ive made apologies for things I felt Ive done wrong but I will not apologize for expressing opinions and concern.
I choose to ignore the rest of your post. It will only make things worse and I feel that was its intent. I offered a do over to you but you choose to ignore it. I in no way want to seek out your friendship but I felt we could be more adult like in our stay on these boards but I guess I was wrong.
Please know that any concerns or fears for your safety and sanity will be kept to myself from now on. I wish you no harm, never have, but it would seem my concerns either frighten or enrage you and your friends so lips zipped as we used to say as kids.
My apologies to anyone reading this who was there when it all went down and was forced to witness the ugliness or any n00b who has no idea what went on and is probably pretty confused right now. Ive said what I need to say and Im done.

I am trying desperately to find the original post and can't as I just saw the word cancer.....Please
forgive me.....I didn't mean to equate my pain to yours....My husband and father both had of cancer and I took care of them.

My father less but my husband full time.
I was in excruciating pain and can be sometimes but I know it cannot
compare..... Please forgive and I am so sorry.

You are always so happy...You are great!!!!!

KK, worry not, no forgiveness needed, not cancer (Also have lost lost Dear Loved Ones to that). Many posts in the deep of a sleepless night, forgot light of day would come... Pain is pain, we all can relate at some point.

I didn't know if you still did and thank you for being a vet...Thank you.

Since you hold the esteemed honor of being the very first person to ever speak to me on these boards..I will offer to come and be your nurse.

Will your wife mind??? tongue.gif

My wife is a nurse. She has been an RN for almost 40 years. However, I get little sympathy from her when I hurt myself. Unless it is life threatening I've learned not to expect her to react very much to my discomfort. Back in 1975 while polishing a hunting knife I almost cut the tip of my index finger off. Only the finger nail prevented the tip from falling off. When I showed it to my wife who was working in the kitchen, she handed me a towel and told me to wrap it around the nearly severed tip. Half an hour later she had finished whatever she was doing in the kitchen and drove me to the ER where I had the tip stitched back on.

No, I don't work. I have been retired for the last 5 years.

If you still cant lift it after iceing and resting while taking Motrin in another day you might want to consider getting it checked professionally. A fall while twisting is a recipe for ligament damage... especially if you feel the pain behind the knee. You can try alternating heat and ice... the ice will reduce swelling .. the heat will loosen up the joint.

Right now I am resting my leg with occasional efforts to see how far I can lift my leg without pain. As I sit here at the computer I have a portable heater blowing on my knee.

Thank you for your concern.

QUOTE (johnw @ April 26, 2008 - 12:40 PM) *
My wife has been an RN for 40 years and has seen it all. It just kills her that the neighbor across the street who is perfectly healthy is on medicaid and my wife has had to treat her. The neighbor claims that she has some kind of mental problem that prevents her from working in an office. Then there are the Puerto Ricans who come into the ER flashing their medicaid cards. I could go on and on about the "dirt bags" who come in for every cotton pickin' thing, no matter how minor such as a cold, while tying up the system for those who really need medical attention. It's not the older ones that the wife objects to, but the young, healthy ones, with the manicured finger nails, and with the three or four illegitimate kids, who claim that they can't work because they can't afford a baby sitter.

In summary, there are too many on medicaid who shouldn't be there. These people claim they can't find work or are unable to work. In reality they are just plain lazy but know how to milk the system and we are paying for them.

I know exactly what you mean.... my wife has been a RN for 20 plus years doing labor and delivery most of that time. Here in Fresno she sees it all .... women showing up to deliver high on crack and meth.... women delivering babies just to have cps take them due to histories of abuse....you name it. Then there are the women that call an ambulance to get a ride to the hospital to be "checked out" when in actuality ther is nothing wrong except they want a free meal and then ask for cab fare home..... all paid by Medi-Cal or just written off by the hospital. Stand in line in the market ... you see people getting cart loads of food and "paying " with food stamps then whipping out a roll of cash to buy smokes and booze. Please note ... I do not begrudge giving a hand to those that need it... I have been there too. Too many people out there are taking advantage of the system... you know its bad when you hear them speak of the 1st and 15th as "payday".

Shades of Gray

(Barry Mann and Cyntha Weil)

When the world and I were young,
Just yesterday.
Live was such a simple game,
A child could play.
It was easy then to tell right from wrong.
Easy then to tell weak from strong.
When a man should stand and fight,
Or just go along.

But today there is no day or night
Today there is no dark or light.
Today there is no black or white,
Only shades of gray.

I remember when the answers seemed so clear
We had never lived with doubt or tasted fear.
It was easy then to tell truth from lies
Selling out from compromise
Who to love and who to hate,
The foolish from the wise.

But today there is no day or night
Today there is no dark or light.
Today there is no black or white,
Only shades of gray.

[Instrumental interlude]

It was easy then to know what was fair
When to keep and when to share.
How much to protect your heart
And how much to care.

But today there is no day or night
Today there is no dark or light.
Today there is no black or white,
Only shades of gray.
Only shades of gray.

In all honesty, Brillke, I don't care how or even if my post was or will be responded to at all. It doesn't matter to me in the least, because I know what I posted was true, and others know it to be the truth too. And that's all that matters in the end. No... it has to do with the amount of data in the download. Imagine trying to drain a swimming pool with a garden hose... then do the same thing with a fire truck and draft hoses.. the fire truck will get the job done a lot faster because the hose is bigger. Dial up is like the garden hose... it just can not do the job in today's internet with all of the media clips out there. Unfortunately, if you are out of town your only choice for high speed may be a server that is wireless based.

And in Brillke's defense, I think your criticism of her "martyr" comment is unfounded. Please go back and read this post, paying attention to every word of the original that Brillke was replying to.

If you take a step back, you'll notice that the mention of death in the original was about 1% of what was posted, yet you're making it sound like the response was in direct reply to that 1%.

I don't believe Brillke's "martyr" remark had one whit to do with the death of KK's mother. It had, instead, everything to do with the rest of the post--i.e., the frequent and backhanded barrage of passive-aggressive insults those of us not attending Camp KK this season are subjected to at her every opportunity.

Posts like the one above, and others like this illustrate that. "Pathological Obsession," are you kidding me? It looks rather like someone's mislabeled "Passive Aggression" for "Pathological Obsession" here, because the "obsessed one" doesn't seem to be the responder but the claimant. We're like the "elephant in the room" that no one wants to acknowledge, except in the sketchiest of terms, and it gets downright tiring being unnecessarily made out to be the bad guys all the time. I mean, if we're gonna be the bad guys, at least give us gadgets or cool clothes or something!

In the end, I think what this all boiled down to was the seeming oddness & displacedness of a reply to topchefan's post here where all she did was ask "Does anyone know how to order Top Chef Season One on CD, DVD, or download?"

The resulting reply, here, was a little out of left field, don't you think? Come on, now, in whose "lexicon of normalcy" is there a passage that says it should be common practice that a plea for technological/entertainment assistance on an internet message board (or anywhere, for that matter) should be followed by an abrupt and wholly personal reference to death and emotional upheaval? Not only that, but what on earth did "I think some peeps don't post as they know they would get eaten alive by the big smart bad men. The cretins roam.....man do they roam" have the least little bit to do with tofchefan's post or inquiry? The answer is "nothing," because it was posted as yet another passive-aggressive dig at those who have taken KK to task or called her into question before. If it wasn't, then please prove to me otherwise.

The death of a family member is horrible, whether it be of the human or animal variety, but even amid the chaos of death, there's a delicate latticework of structure underlying it. KK's reply seemed in direct counterpoint to that structure, so there was, as expected, fallout.

Maludi, you have every right to defend KK against the "threats" she sees through her spyglass, but please be sure the threats are real and legitimate before you go defending. By the same token as hers, we have just as much right to defend our own against her. It's sad that she's chosen to make this an "Us Versus Them" mentality, because she does so out of spite, not legitimacy.

Goodness, this reads like an episode of The Tudors!

Threats? what threats?......never mind......... sigh....... never mind, never mind.
This will just go on until one of us die...no, better yet... until I DIE.

......Whatever.......... and even when I die you guys are still going to be duscussing this!!! Gee manie!!!

Question: When making blueberry muffins, what should I do to ensure the berries don't drop to the bottom of the muffin cup?

Hi River!
When I make mine, I let the batter with the berries sit for a little while, about no more than 10 minutes and then after folding it once more then I bake it. All of this, of course will turn the batter a little dark due to the berries. smile.gif

OH MG this is quite flattering.
You spent THIS much time on moi???

OK here's the way it's gonna' be.

You stay away from me.... All of you
I am not your play thing anymore.
I wrote that in direct response to something Note said and TCFan just happened to answer him.

If you want me to go into the
whole Christmas Eve thing I will ....But some peeps are gonna' look insane and awfully cruel.

It is MY right to answer that any way I deem
and none of your business and none of this
I care for you garbage.....You are all so transparent it's not even funny.

You put me ignore and you do not obsess on me anymore....... All of you.

You keep finding ways to try and goad
me and post to me and make digs.
I make them too.....Of course I do.

I can do anything I want as long as
I do not personally attack you.
.BUT it is up to YOU to control youself and not respond to it.

This is going to be a long season and in case you haven 't noticed you can't make
peeps hate me as much as you will try.

Yeah the david thing and this and many
others...Gee some peeps even PMed my
friends to try and get them to hate me.
I don't play that game.

Shaking my head..I mean REALLY???
As much as your pack has attacked
peeps???? And you all do nothing???
Peeps will like you as you treat them.

You think I'm passive aggrssive????

Have any of YOU ever read
yourselves???

Bottom line..leave me alone and I will do the same to you.

I'm not playing anymore.

I only even knew about this post as someone told me....I don't read you if I can all help it all.
And the ONLY reason I am responding is to TRY and nip this in the bud right now.

If anyone wants to go back and read you peeps they can...They will see a dark history
of this behavior....... Go away!!!!!!

And if you continue to obsess on me
after this then YES... you are pathological as I have told you to go away and leave me alone.

Have a nice life.

I'm not a N00b and I don't know what's going on anymore!

I come from a long line of Cancer patients... My great-Grandfather, my grandfather, my father, and I know it will someday will be me. I haven't read all the way to the first post but I feel for anyone who is going thru this. I have some memories of taking care of Cancer patients and I tell you, it's no walk in the park. NiCi? Kudos to you! Anything I can do to help, just ask away! wink.gif

Congrats on your success. Can you remember how long it takes to stop wanting one all the time? It has been 3 months since I quit and I still want one really bad. I try not to think of them...but that doesn't work.

The Zyban worked really well for me - it is actually an anti-depressant and gives you a sense of euphoria or well-being. I stopped craving for a cigarette within a week of smoking my last one. It took me five years before the odor of cigarettes began to sicken me.

In your case I would advise staying busy physically and find an oral substitute like sugarless gum or candy. When you see what cigarettes cost nowadays, think of all the money you are saving by not smoking

Anyone awake? Well I'm here at work trying to go a whole shift without going out for a smoke. I finally broke down and bought the Nicoderm Patch. I've been wearing it since 10:30pm and so far so good. Just wondering if anyone was awake and wanted to chat and help me through the night.

Woshkie,

I used the patch about 18 months ago and it worked like a charm. Not had a cigarette since. Do I still crave one? Not so much the cigarette the comfortable routine I do miss. Ive not had one nicotene craving since but I find myself holding pens like cigarettes all the time.

I wish you lots of luck,

I guess your wife has seen some pretty bad injuries..so it figures it would take more to shake her up. Kind of sucks for you...but, it is understandable. Bet sometimes she can save you money though.

It's ok, after 35 years of marriage I know what to expect. I complain anyway when sick or injured and she sets me straight as usual. But no matter. My wife is a heck of a cook and if I weren't diabetic life at the dining table would be a lot more interesting. You wouldn't believe all the baked goods she brings to work that I am not allowed to taste.
