In your case I would advise staying busy physically and find an oral substitute like sugarless gum or candy. When you see what cigarettes cost nowadays, think of all the money you are saving by not smoking

Also try frozen peas, I always keep em in the freezer for stuff like this. I agree with Ford, you should get it checked. 3 day rule - if it stll hurts after 3 days, get it checked. (just an old wives tale)

Tough one, but I would emphasize that best gift from momma to beautiful, only daughter bride is healthy, calm happy mom who has nothing but time for said daughter. Instead of time spent on planning, cooking, catering etc. time better spent on building special mom/daughter memories around most special event in daughter's life. Maybe get family members to back this up with suggestions (or gift certificates for) things.

As one who has dealt with health issues, I would emphasize the "healthy" part most of all. The last thing she wants to do is run herself down and not be well enough to fully participate in and enjoy her only daughter's wedding!

In Kristy's defense I have to say that a death of someone in your family gives you the right to remember them for a year, for a couple of years, for the rest of your life mind you! And it's a way to mourn that loved one! So mourn away Kristy.

I feel her pain, for I have lost a parent too and has been a few years but it feels like it was yesterday.
I guess you have to experience that if you want to be sensitive of someone's feelings huh? But then again, I have to say that even if you still have your parents bless you, but remember how to pick and choose your words around those of us who have.
Even losing a loved family pet makes you mourn EVERY DAY not just a little while.

So if martyrdom is for Kristy, then let it be. It's her way of showing respect.

We have our moments and our "internet persona" but we also remember how to not hurt someone's feelings.

I come from a long line of Cancer patients... My great-Grandfather, my grandfather, my father, and I know it will someday will be me. I haven't read all the way to the first post but I feel for anyone who is going thru this. I have some memories of taking care of Cancer patients and I tell you, it's no walk in the park. NiCi? Kudos to you! Anything I can do to help, just ask away!

Doctors mean well, but medication is not always the answer (and sometimes moderation in medication is the answer). Each medication has its own side effects (and you start adding those together and it can get ugly real fast!), they interplay with eachother, and an individual's reaction to them can change over time as well. Each of us must do what we feel is right for us individually (and must advocate for what we feel is right for those under our care - our children or aging parents etc.) and part of that is having a doctor that we trust and feel is on our team. I am blessed to have such a doctor!

I'm glad your mother has her own doctor - who can monitor and prescribe what she needs, but not beyond. My heart goes out to people who are on lots of medications which interfere with them enjoying and getting the most out of their life.

Don't mind ya asking, the damage that is done is done, no further damage expected. Prognosis - uncharted waters based on amount of damage. I feel much depends on me - I respect doctors and their opinions, but I am the one who has to walk things out and I am the one who ultimately has to decide what I can live with and what I can't. Doctors want to medicate a lot, I don't choose to live like that. Have been living with it for years now, and really is not so bad - does not stop me from doing what is most important to me. I have a good life and much to be thankful for. I am content.

If you take a step back, you'll notice that the mention of death in the original was about 1% of what was posted, yet you're making it sound like the response was in direct reply to that 1%.

I don't believe Brillke's "martyr" remark had one whit to do with the death of KK's mother. It had, instead, everything to do with the rest of the post--i.e., the frequent and backhanded barrage of passive-aggressive insults those of us not attending Camp KK this season are subjected to at her every opportunity.

Posts like the one above, and others like this illustrate that. "Pathological Obsession," are you kidding me? It looks rather like someone's mislabeled "Passive Aggression" for "Pathological Obsession" here, because the "obsessed one" doesn't seem to be the responder but the claimant. We're like the "elephant in the room" that no one wants to acknowledge, except in the sketchiest of terms, and it gets downright tiring being unnecessarily made out to be the bad guys all the time. I mean, if we're gonna be the bad guys, at least give us gadgets or cool clothes or something!

In the end, I think what this all boiled down to was the seeming oddness & displacedness of a reply to topchefan's post here where all she did was ask "Does anyone know how to order Top Chef Season One on CD, DVD, or download?"

The resulting reply, here, was a little out of left field, don't you think? Come on, now, in whose "lexicon of normalcy" is there a passage that says it should be common practice that a plea for technological/entertainment assistance on an internet message board (or anywhere, for that matter) should be followed by an abrupt and wholly personal reference to death and emotional upheaval? Not only that, but what on earth did "I think some peeps don't post as they know they would get eaten alive by the big smart bad men. The cretins roam.....man do they roam" have the least little bit to do with tofchefan's post or inquiry? The answer is "nothing," because it was posted as yet another passive-aggressive dig at those who have taken KK to task or called her into question before. If it wasn't, then please prove to me otherwise.

The death of a family member is horrible, whether it be of the human or animal variety, but even amid the chaos of death, there's a delicate latticework of structure underlying it. KK's reply seemed in direct counterpoint to that structure, so there was, as expected, fallout.

Maludi, you have every right to defend KK against the "threats" she sees through her spyglass, but please be sure the threats are real and legitimate before you go defending. By the same token as hers, we have just as much right to defend our own against her. It's sad that she's chosen to make this an "Us Versus Them" mentality, because she does so out of spite, not legitimacy.

No... it has to do with the amount of data in the download. Imagine trying to drain a swimming pool with a garden hose... then do the same thing with a fire truck and draft hoses.. the fire truck will get the job done a lot faster because the hose is bigger. Dial up is like the garden hose... it just can not do the job in today's internet with all of the media clips out there. Unfortunately, if you are out of town your only choice for high speed may be a server that is wireless based.

I once worked with a 60+ year old choreographer who had not had a cigarette in over 30 years and she told me that she still wanted one EVERY DAY! NOT VERY ENCOURAGING!
