What did we say? This is what we said:

"The idea of Lifetime doing spinoffs of the show just smells like 'Project Runway, L.A.' to us. Not sure how we feel about that one either."

Well, according to Entertainment Weekly:

"One day, New York is in. The next day, it's out. EW.com has learned from two well-placed sources that Project Runway and its host Heidi Klum will move to Los Angeles for the series' sixth season, expected to premiere on Lifetime in November. The show's fifth season, which debuts on Bravo in July, will be shot in the Big Apple — as it has been since the Emmy-nominated reality program's inception."

Let the stormy clouds chase
Everyone from the place
Come on with the rain

I walk down the lane
With a happy refrain
Just singin', singin' in the rain
Dancing in the rain
I'm happy again
I'm singin' and dancing in the rain
I'm dancing and singin' in the rain

Yeah, I mean that's why I'm worried about Project Runway moving to Lifetime Television for women. I've read some of their boards and there's a lot of dramatic testimonial type posts, and posts of inspiration and sunny Hallmark type encouragement. Theres also a fair share of "I am a victim" posts and anti-male sentiment. It sometimes seems to feed on itself and there sometimes seem a bit of a competition as to who can claim more wrongs against them or more severe or complicated sickness afflicting them. And no matter what the post, there seems an ever-present chorus of peeps who have/had a "friend" who went through something similar or worse.. rolleyes.gif Theres a lot of indignation on behalf of other people, lots of saints and martyrs.

Several pages ago peeps were talking about long lost and then found friends and it got me reminiscing. I had a best friend all through high school. We were inseperable. My parents were even semi-cool about parties and drinking because they knew that Paula would take care of me.
My senior year we both worked at a department store as cashiers. This about the time she started dating this one guy. White Trash. Actually, I should capitalize all those letters. I grew up relatively poor (11 kids between the yours, mine & ours). There is a big differene between poor and white trash. I bit my tongue and never told her my feelings for him. Even after he got her arrested. He went through he lane at the store and talked her into only ringing up some of the items. I was on break and came back to see her being escorted along with that dirtbag to the back of the store in handcuffs. I was devastated.
She came from a decent family. Her parents were going through a time that would eventually end in divorce. She loved her dad so much and blamed her mom. Blah blah blah. You know that story. It was very hard on her.
We were in high school in the late 70's. We came from working class parents. Unless you were an academic and got a scholarship college just wasn't an option. No one really discussed school loans back then. We, as girls, we pretty much raised to work, find a man and get married. I know that sounds pretty archiac, even for the late 70's, but that is just they way it was for us back then.
Anyhoo. She continued to date this man much to my chagrin and her mother's. Her mother didn't much like me at first. I'm a little introverted which makes me come off as aloof. We found a common bond in our dislike of her boyfriend. They became engaged. I didn't say anything for a long time. When it came time to plan the wedding she asked me to be her maid of honor. I could not hold my tongue any longer. I told her I could not stand up for her when I thought this man would be her ruin. Not that he hadn't been so far. I couldn't do it for her no matter how much I loved her because I truly thought she was making a mistake. I never saw her again.
I still think about her a lot. I've thought about trying to get in touch with her but it has been over 25 years and I really don't know what I would say. What a [expletive deleted] I was to her about that. I should have kept my mouth shut. But, you peeps story got me thinking about her. Damn all of you wub.gif

SUPERMAN lyrics (THE KINKS)

Woke up this morning, started to sneeze
I had a cigarette and a cup of tea
I looked in the mirror what did I see
A nine stone weakling with knobbly knees
I did my knees bend press ups touch my toes
I had another sneeze and I blew my nose
I looked in the mirror at my pigeon chest
I had to put on my clothes because it made me depressed
Surely there must be a way
For me to change the shape I'm in
Dissatisfied is what I am
I want to be a better man

Superman Superman wish I could fly like Superman
Superman Superman I want to be like Superman
I want to be like Superman
Superman Superman wish I could fly like Superman

Woke up this morning, what did I see
A big black cloud hanging over me
I switched on the radio and nearly dropped dead
The news was so bad that I fell out of bed
There was a gas strike, oil strike, lorry strike, bread strike
Got to be a Superman to survive
Gas bills, rent bills, tax bills, phone bills
I'm such a wreck but I'm staying alive

[Look in the paper, what do I see,
Robbery, violence, insanity.]

Hey girl we've got to get out of this place
There's got to be something better than this
I need you, but I hate to see you this way
If I were Superman then we'd fly away
I'd really like to change the world
And save it from the mess it's in
I'm too weak, I'm so thin
I'd like to fly but I can't even swim

Superman Superman I want to fly like Superman
Superman Superman wish I could fly like Superman
Superman Superman wish I could fly like Superman
Superman Superman I want to be like Superman
Superman Superman I want to fly like Superman

Good morning good morning good morning all!
Here's something to share on this beautiful day. We've beautiful SoCal weather here on the porch, fresh coffee and a breakfast brunch to share.

cool.gif

Got a couple of questions (sort of) not light topics for the OT board. Feel free to ignore, but I"m curious.

1. We started working with a food redistribution program for my son's school project. I'm stunned at how much food is wasted when there are so many needy families. Anyone involved in something similiar?

2. After doing this project (which is now on-going) we started thinking about storing food against hard times. We are going to the 99 cent store, getting fruits and veggies, dehydrating and storing them in mason jars so that we have healthy alternatives when the budget is way too tight. Any suggestions to share?

Much love,

Born in '66, I grew up listening to me mum's Beatles collection on vinyl before there was even the hint or threat of CD. By '79, I had my own collection of Beatles LPs, both domestic and import, and I had more than a few collections on cassette too.

In '80, when John Lennon was assassinated, I was devastated. I remember falling asleep that night to NPR, and waking in the middle of the night to mum shaking me in tears, then hearing "Golden Slumbers" right after the announcement that he was dead. I was 14 years old, and it was 28 years ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday. I'd become such a John Lennon fan in the years that I'd been exposed to his music and lyrics that his sudden death hit me like a hot rock to the pit of the stomach.

John Lennon was assassinated on December 8th, 1980. My mother's wedding to my stepfather was a day later, and I was her maid of honor. It was a difficult thing for me, to stand there and celebrate a new beginning when John Lennon had been gunned down the night before, but what choice did I have, really?

Mum and stepdad have since divorced, but they remain good friends, so I guess it was all more positive than negative in the long run for them. Unfortunately, and to this day, the only thing I remember about their wedding day was the fact that it was the day after Lennon was shot.

Sometimes I think that was the beginning of the end of positivity for me.

Aahh, well ... what can you do, really?

We hardly do anything locally, except his United Way deduction, but when I overbuy, a local market (not my usual place) has a collection area for non-perishables to go to a local food pantry.

Jazzie, I would advise against storing too much food. You live in Southern California. Keep a kitchen garden! Take up fishing! Frankly, most of the stuff I donate is canned food reaching the last few months of it's expiration date that my guy insists on storing in the downstairs cabinets..
It's one of the many things we agree to disagree about.

Oh I understand the "agree to disagree with your guy" kind of thing.....we are on the waiting list (way too long) for a plot in the community garden down the street, and the hubby has been trying to do container gardening on our postage stamp patio for the last 10 years, but the bugs have enjoyed far more from it than we do. His jalapeno plants are the ones that just keep doing well, everything else he's tried has tanked. Fishing.....if the hubby didn't work nights, he'd fish, trust me he'd fish!

He is the one that would be the hoarder, and I'm only in partial agreement. As long as we use and rotate, I'm ok with it. And we donate our almost expired stuff to the food pantry at Mission San Luis Rey. (In fact, the woman who runs it loves the "ecumenical" nature of this....a devote Buddhist family donating to a small Catholic charity! blush.gif) It works for us.

Have a great morning.

Yes, please call me Cyd. My ma called me Cyd after Cyd Charisse. Despite her lack of a sense of humor, she called me that because as a child I was a complete klutz. Oh the irony.
The bug looks kinda sorta like a lady bug but is not. We've had them here in BFE for the last 3 years. They are here, there and everywhere. Sorry, had to get my beatles plug in there somewhere.

Oh I bet we could trade stories LOL! My mom used to say I could walk into an empty room and manage to bang into something! (and I relate to the older parent, I was a few months shy of 40 when I had kidlet, don't regret it for a moment!)
(and my nickname....or at least one of them....is "Cyns"!)

Cyn is a nickname of mine as well. 38 with Colio and 6 months shy of 40 with Jackie. Told hub I would not have anymore children once I hit 40. Good thing Jackie got in when he did. I could walk into an empty room and manage to break something. One of my older sisters is so surprised now that I can cook. Our step-father would not allow me into the kitchen (he was the main cook) because I would enevitably break something.

wink.gif Oh me too! My stepdad and mom ran a restaurant back in the 60's and 70's....Italian (of course, since stepdad is Sicilian) and it was so funny...when one of the other people would drop a tray of glasses or some plates or something, the first thing out of my mouth was "It wasn't ME!"

Klutz case in point. I just put up one of those air freshener things that go off every 9, 18 or 36 minutes. Set the timer, put the screw in the wall.... Hung it up and centered it just in time for the dangnabit (stolen from Helen) thing to go off in my face. Some people should just not get up in the morning.

IC, I was 18 when he was killed. I still remember everything about that day. I guess that's my "Where were you when JFK got killed?" kind of thing. Aside from 9/11 that was the most profound day of loss to me.

I am very ill equipped to reply to this, not being a big Beatles fan, but I'm so jazzed you are posting, I had to say that at least.

It's probably weird to you, me being a big John Denver fan, but not a Beatle fan, because many of their songs were about the same things, and they both were raw talent turned into big commercial success that miraculously did not taint their music as far as I can tell. After giving myself a headache, I still cannot explain why I see Denver as more real, as I never saw a live performance of either obviously.

I just prefer the tongue-in-cheekiness of the Kinks and L-O-L-A to the Strawberry Fields stuff.

But I understand how the death of an entertainer can hit someone hard. I was terribly sad when Lucille Ball died on April 26, 1989. I was going through a rough time in my life and she was like a personal goddess to me. It seemed at the time that I would never be happy. How wrong I was!
And when John Denver died in 1997, even younger, I wasn't very sad. Somehow, it felt like he was just ready to go on to bigger and better things.. Go figure..

I actually got to see John Lennon and Yoko Ono live at a Free John Sinclair concert in Ann Arbor. Incredible event--Stevie Wonder, Bob Seger, Commander Cody. Speakers included Jerry Rubin, Bobby Seale and Allen Guinsberg, Rennie Davis. Cost $3.50.

Much love,
Jazzie

Keep lots of dry beans, peas, pasta, oats, powder milk (mix a half gallon with 2 percent and it's not a bad gallon of milk) on hand as well...If you have room, plant a garden and can your own vegies. I planted a garden in a 4 ft. by 8 ft. area behind my old house. I had tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, okra, and watermelon. People thought I was crazy, but I had fresh vegies all summer and my watermelon vine produced two refrigerator sized melons. Tomatoes and green beans are really easy to can at home...or use your dehydrator on all of them...my cousin used to dry all her vegetables and then she'd put a bullion cube with her vegies in a travel cup for her son's lunch. He loved it. He'd put hot water in it when he first got to school, put the lid back on, and store it in his locker until lunch. On cold days it was instant soup.

My hub's friends call me mama. Don't ask me why. Just started and stuck. Don't mind really. My hub's friend is here. The one like fingernails on a chalkboard. Just called me ma. Would that be considered 2nd degree murder or involuntary manslaughter?

If you have an all woman jury it will be considered justified and you will get off scott free!

Oh, just common sense---don't mind if the kids or their friends call me ma, mom, whatever, and to the kids next door I'm even Mrs. Grandma----but....I certainly don't want to be my husband's mother and if his friends even think about calling me ma----see ya!
