He's super nice! Maybe we have some connections your husband can use! How about you? What's your field? What do you want to be when you grow up? tongue.gif

Me too. Server, bartender, etc. I did sell used cars for 6 years. I was really good too. Top salesman almost every month! I got tired of the hours and they wanted to move me into management which was even MORE hours, so I said nope. I want to become a finance manager if I'm going to stay in the car biz. I have a couple of opps up here. We'll see. Less hours and double the money! Woo Hoo!

ideas....I would do as always ..baked ziti.

But depends on if you want summer or autumn.
I love a sweet potato casserole with crushed pecans.
But a really good potato salad or deviled eggs even are always a big hit......My hubby's coleslaw with Magnolia milk..mmmm.....Peeps would go nuts for it...I mean like addicts.

And right now because of Wilfred
(who I am very mad at right now and might be quitting)
I can't have all that blush.gif

Am I missing something?? Is it not possible for Drew to "father" a child without the child being positive?

I guess I should say act as a father figure. There are all sorts of families out there, and we tend to view our family together as a "traditional" family would. Denny is my grandson, yet I think of him as my kid, since his own father, my son, couldn't be bothered. Drew is Denny's other father, and Denny certainly views him as such.

If Drew's brother, Kevin, donates his essence to this couple of lesbians we know, they would consider Drew to be the father, as part of his DNA will be there. Of course it won't be, in the truest sense, the case, but we all love Drew, want him to feel part of the family of man, and the girls want a child. They know Drew will always be there for them. It's who he is.

QUOTE (IronChef @ May 7, 2008 - 08:45 PM) *
Thank you so much, everyone, for your continued concerns, thoughts and advice on my situation at work. I'm riding things out the best I can, and by all accounts, I'm safe until September. It's going to be a rough and stressful four plus months, but there's not much I can do but wait--my s.o. and I both work at the same place (same shift but different departments), so if one of us gets cut, we're both pretty much done for.

I'm trying to distract myself any way I can, so in news of the distracted, do we have any linguists on the board?

I've had the same dream for the past four nights, and in said dream, in several different situations, I find myself reciting something that sounds like "may knighten mayter wytaow" over and over again. I'm almost tempted to believe it's something past-lifey--it sounds to my ears like old Saxon, Dutch, or high German or something, but I can't quite translate it because I don't know where to begin.

The closest I can come to a phonetic approximation is:

mey nīt ən meyt ər waɪ taʊ

Anyone who has a linguistic or etymologic background, if you can glean anything from that, I'd be forever grateful if you could clue me in.

Could you put that phrase into context? What was happening in your dream when you found yourself uttering those words? I know I'm not good at a lot of languages, but if I hear something, and I see what's happening when they are spoken, I can, usually, get the gist of what they mean. Of course, that's not always the case, and I'm not a Freudian disciple. I'm much more in tune with Jungian theories.

I do like dreams, though, and I love to mull them over, ad nauseum. I also have psychiatrists friends, as well as having had a shrink for over ten years. It's part and parcel of that whole cilinical depression thing, don'tcha know.

SoCal here, and, from what I understand (could be wrong) San Diego County has some of the highest gas prices in the state.

My family tops our tank off every single day now....and we try to get our gas at the lowered cash prices.....running between 3.82 and 4.01/gallon.

Oddly, I went to the Long Beach/Paramount area a few weeks ago to help out with a friend's emergency situation. In her area, food prices are higher than ours, but gas prices running 18 to 20 cents lower. And she lives right on the edge of a good neighborhood going downhill.

A question to add to the gas prices.....what kind of food price jumps are you guys seeing cross country? We are seeing the "bargain prices" on milk running up to and over 4 dollars a gallon.

That's the difference between you and Drew. He knows better than to try and change me. That and about 9", and you can't compete with that.

I know. Too much information.

QUOTE (dcjewbear @ May 7, 2008 - 01:24 PM) *
Well, that's not the only thing Drew is gifted with. He is, for instance a natural athlete. We used to go to Central park and play baseball in pick up games, and, though he hadn't played in years, he would pick up a bat and hit the ball wherever he wanted to hit it. In football games he could catch a ball in a pack of people. All you had to do was put the ball in his vicinity.

Denny is like me, in that he has to work at being good. I would prefer that Drew doesn't coach Denny, in that, what works for Drew, doesn't necessarily work for people who are less gifted.

I did the whole dance class thing, but Drew is a natural. We went out ballroom dancing, and, though he had never done it before, all I had to do was show him a dance step once, and it looked like he came out of the womb dancing. Of course I had to let him lead, which was uncomfortable for me.

Drew is also the smartest man I've ever met. I studied writing for many, many years, but, we did a thing where we both wrote short stories, and his was so much better than mine. It made me queasy, in a sense, but it also made me proud, so I let him read Denny's writing assignments.

He's also a good father. I know Denny loves me, but, when the sh*t goes down Denny always goes to Drew first. The way Denny looks at him is beautiful. They really have a special bond, and, this, after Drew told me he didn't want kids when we first met.

Since we're both positive now, he can't have kids of his own, and we've been talking about adopting. I can see Denny, and know he's mine. An adopted child wouldn't be Drew's, any more than Denny is, but he's such a good patient man, and father, that we have decided to see if we can adopt a child.

I know this sounds like a testimonial to Drew, but, once I start, I just can't stop talking about what a great person he is. He's my husband, and he's my pal, and I'm just so f*cking lucky to have met him.

Bear,
You and Drew are an example to all of us. I wish I could be as loving as you both.
Hugs and kisses,
tcfan

Food prices are getting outrages. ex: frozen vege's two months ago 10 for $10.00. Now $1.69 each. Eggs? possibly cheaper to raise my own. Glad I always stock up enough food to last a year, so I can catch stuff on sale.
