The only song the mascots will ALLOW me to sing is "Million Dollars" by the Barenaked Ladies. I sing the first part and they sing the second.
PS. Mascot's #2 b-day today. Big 7.

Who doesn't? biggrin.gif

Oh and BTW, this is the only place I seem to get any exercise.
**running around threads *

I gave up trying to keep up today. I think I went back 5 pages or so on this thread and on last week's Epi. I have no idea where I am, or quite possibly, what I may be responding to. I haven't even had any adult beverages, either! *sobs*

But, WAJ just helped me along quite well with my diet. Blech. Thanks! I won't be eating again for, oh I don't know, ever? Well, shrimp, at least.

I'm trying to plan a Memorial Day cookout for just 6 of us and I'm making myself crazy. So far, I have:

steak
chicken breasts
grilled veg and orzo salad
banana pudding

I'm working on more salad/veg sides and tweaking some marinade ideas.
Any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
*hint hint wink wink*

I'll try to keep up from this point on. biggrin.gif

If you go to the boards main page the Top Chef shows last post in whatever thread. If you click on last post it will take you to your last unread post on that thread. The other trick is at the top of the boards main page it tells you when your last visit was so you can kind of backtrack by the times of the posts.

I LOVE A P P.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me too!!! I would totally have A.P.P. on my playlist, and I wouldn't care who thought it was lame or not. "Taste" is subjective, and every playlist is a personal choice. So much goes into our "playlists," whether it be music, films, art or what-have-you.

Never let anyone tell you that what you like or prefer is "wrong," "substandard" or "just plain silly," because it simply isn't true! Like "taste," critique is wholly subjective and personal. Take others' opinions, preferences and recommendations into account, but always like what you like, dislike what you don't, never feel the need to defend your choice as anything other than a personal preference, and simply ignore what isn't relevant. smile.gif

"Kiss Them For Me" -- absolutely epic Siouxsie & The Banshees tune!

Kiss Them For Me
It glittered and it gleamed
For the arriving beauty queen
A ring and a car
Now you’re the prettiest by far
No party she’d not attend
No invitation she wouldn’t send
Transfixed by the inner sound
Of your promise to be found

"nothing or no-one will ever
Make me let you down"

Kiss them for me -- I may be delayed
Kiss them for me -- if I am delayed

It’s "divoon," oh it’s serene
In the fountains pink champagne
Someone carving their devotion
In the heart shaped pool of fame

"nothing or no-one will ever
Make me let you down"

Kiss them for me -- I may be delayed
Kiss them for me -- I may find myself delayed

On the road to new orleans
A spray of stars hit the screen
As the 10th impact shimmered
The forbidden candles beamed

Kiss them for me -- I may be delayed
Kiss them for me -- I may find myself delayed

Kiss them for me -- kiss them for me

Kiss them for me -- I may find myself delayed

Kiss Them For Me

Im so depressed!

Chase, who is 7,is listening to my ipod and he just asked me "why do you got so much sucky music on this thing?" First,I was like "sucky?" Not a word I use and where the heck did he learn it?

I was like what music dont you like and he said these guys and started to show me the cover flow of the songs he disliked.

They included

The Clash
Elvis Costello
Judas Priest
Collective Soul
Deep Purple
Cyndi Lauper
Elvis Presley and a few more. I was stunned! Is there any hope for todays youth?

He then asked why I dont have more cowboy music, what he calls country music,on there. I was able to not shiver and throw up as I said two cowboy songs are enough for me. Im so not a fan of country music.

Cowboy music but no Clash? I think Im gonna go have a cry now....

Bwahahahahaha!!!! Grrl, if the artists on that list of yours are "sucky," then you and I both need to rent ourselves out to Hoover! Every name on that list is a fave of mine, so at the very least, you and I are not alone in our prefs.

As far as "cowboy music" is concerned, I am by no means a fan of "country" music, but even I have an appreciation for a few oldschool country tunes and artists like Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn ... I still get Jeannie C. Riley's "Harper Valley PTA" stuck in my head at the drop of a ten gallon hat!!! wink.gif

Sighing here ... I've been a fan since the late 70s/early 80s. Siouxsie is timeless, whether with The Banshees or The Creatures, and I have unlimited love for her as an artist. Several people have told me I resemble Siouxsie in her early years, so I'm probably completely biased!

QUOTE (dcjewbear @ May 21, 2008 - 01:24 PM) *
I don't think I really care that much what Denny likes, right now, as it will change, as his musical "palette" changes, and gets more sophisticated. When I was young you couldn't get me to listen to what my parents listened to, and now stuff like Frank Sinatra and, lots of opera and classical music, are staples of my collection. I just want Denny to be aware of what's around him. He doesn't have to love it now.

The big thing about being young is making your way through. I know one of Phil's kids was really "into" Slipknot. I didn't have the heart to tell him that Alice Cooper did that two generations before, and Joe did finally come to that conclusion on his own. Music is a very personal thing, and, as long as it's there, kids will eventually have that "aha!" moment.

Well said...When I was a kid, I hated Jazz...Now I love it...Classical still holds the top spot in my heart though-but even that in a way was a "rebellion" kinda thing...My folks(mom mostly)were always trying to make me listen to "pop" music-You'll be more popular(translation-less gay)...So I listened to classical(I did like it then)almost to rebell...Hence I didn't learn the wonders of Pink Floyd, The Who, APP, etc. until I went to college...And in many ways I'm still catching up...While I've heard of most of the Artists, on all y'alls lists; I wouldn't know any of their works, except in the most casual way...On the other hand Manfred Mann, Pattsy Kline, The Platters, Elvis, you get the picture; I'm somewhat more knowledgeable about(funny though-I actually have very few "oldies" in my CD collection)...
And I am still a child of the 20th century-I own a cell phone of course; but an I-pod--I wouldn't even be able to learn how to program it('course I could ask my neighbors 7 yo daughter)...
I have to get a chuckle when my folks call me for computer advice(or ask when they're here)...As computer stupid as I am(I can't even figure out how to post a pic, or provide a link here on the boards)...

I looked at him and said well I guess I am a grandpa by proxy that my girlfriends grandson had been baptized today... he laughed and said sorry with the baptisism and the other things going on he did not put two and two together.

Gotta say this somewhere....OT seems as a good a place!

I'm so nervous and excited!!!

I just got the follow-up email from the publishing company....they need me to submit three completed chapters, the novel's outline, and my bio.
I'm sitting here going,
"breathe, Jazzie, breathe"

And on the downside, we've an emergency meeting at my son's wonderful charter high school...they're enrollment is below minimum by 40 students for the fall, and they may not get their new accreditations for the next 5 years! Some truly phenomenal teachers and admin folks there....I hope we can pull that rabbit out of the hat!

We understand that a lot of you have long been posting on these boards and have made friends, and want to discuss your personal likes and dislikes. And so we are pleased to offer this off-topic thread for fans of "Top Chef."

It would be really nice if people would actually USE this board. The episode discussion boards are useless because they're nothing but inane chatter from people who really need to be using this board. I've stopped reading the boards altogether because I'm sick of wading through the asinine one-line, off-topic posts with twenty lines of signature block stuck below.

CAN WE PLEASE USE THE EPISODE DISCUSSION BOARDS TO ACTUALLY DISCUSS EPISODES, PEOPLE? Good lord.

I get your frustration... but... in a real way the boards most belong to those who contribute to them.

I bear you no animosity, but it is a bit unseemly for someone who has contributed a grand total of two posts to the board to be lecturing those who keep the boards going with both on and off topic posts.

Readers are welcome, but writers rule!

Gee, it never occurred to you that the reason there are only two posts under this name are because of all the CLUTTER on the boards? These boards are useless and why bother contributing when they're full of nothing but people posting just as I described above?

Take note, Bravo- I guarantee I'm not the only one who has stopped reading these boards because of the ridiculous amount of wasted screen space full of people's insanely long sig lines and no actual EPISODE discussion on the EPISODE boards.

To the rest of you- they gave you people this board for your clutter; why not use it and quit filling the topic-based boards with it? Seriously, people, look at the episode boards and note how many pages you have to click through just to find a SINGLE discussion of the actual episode. It's ridiculous.

And THAT is why there are only a few of you who post a lot. The rest of us walk away in irritation at the completely useless chatter wasting space on the other boards. No need to reply- I won't be back.

Actually to me it is one more piece of technology that we use to shut out the world. I know that is something we all need to do sometimes, but so many of the young men and women (and adults) I work with need more human interaction not less. If their music choices were more eclectic, maybe they would learn about the world (a little at least) through the lyrics. Sadly, the majority have a very narrow view of the world musically!

When my nephew graduated last year,I got him an ipod Shuffle. He joined the Marines and wasnt able to take it with him so my sister, the teacher, used it at school during breaks and so on. She said its a life saver and ended up keeping it. She bought him a very nice 80g Zune to replace the Shuffle though so he totally ended with the better end of the deal.

Dear Mr.Cranky Pants,

While I see your point, your reasoning for only having two post under your name makes no sense. Im calling bullsh!t.

Ive both complained and contributed to OT being in the wrong place. I would like to say that IMO,the OT isnt near as bad as it used to be. Yes,its getting worse but the peeps were very respectfully reminded about the OT thread recently and I think it went over very well.

Why dont you stop being so cranky and post, either OT or TC,and lets discuss something.

Oh,since I called you a name(it was a joke BTW) I give you permission to call me one. If it helps,Im short and fat. You should be able to come up with something good with those two faults.

Welcome to the board anyways,

Bwahahahahaha!!!! Grrl, if the artists on that list of yours are "sucky," then you and I both need to rent ourselves out to Hoover! Every name on that list is a fave of mine, so at the very least, you and I are not alone in our prefs.

As far as "cowboy music" is concerned, I am by no means a fan of "country" music, but even I have an appreciation for a few oldschool country tunes and artists like Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn ... I still get Jeannie C. Riley's "Harper Valley PTA" stuck in my head at the drop of a ten gallon hat!!! wink.gif

I guess its not all bad news. He does like the Ramones, the Rolling Stones,Social Distortion,AC/DC,Queen amongst a few others. I know hes young and theres time. With so much sampling going on,kids will be like listen to this new song and um,its not new at all. They cant believe the song is older then them or their parents even sometimes.

As for country,if I were gonna listen to any, gimmee the old stuff. I grew up in the birthplace of Bluegrass. The Grand Old Opry was big in our house. Visits to Opryland were a summer ritual. I like Conway Twitty,Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton way more then I care to admit. I will also admit to having a huge crush on the Oak Ridge Boys, all four of them,as a kid. Oh,I really liked Alabama and Sawyer Brown too. Damn, thats a lot of country for someone who doesnt like country.

BTW,damn you Lia! I now have Harper Valley PTA stuck in my head!

Actually this is probably better suited for the On Topic, board; but am I the only one inclined to when they see a poster "Just Got Here" to kinda skim through them-at least until they show some brains...

...I'm trying to plan a Memorial Day cookout for just 6 of us and I'm making myself crazy. So far, I have:

steak
chicken breasts
grilled veg and orzo salad
banana pudding

I'm working on more salad/veg sides and tweaking some marinade ideas.
Any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
*hint hint wink wink*...

Yes, I'm bumping myself.

A very dear person helped me with an awesome idea for a veg vinaigarette (sp? Ican't spell that word to save my life rolleyes.gif ), but I've expanded the # of people showing up and other dishes. I now have 10 people and the following food:

Hummus & pita
Mixed olive plate
KIELBASA bites, preferably steeped in a lovely lager and served with a hearty grain mustard
Tzitziki
Roasted baby beets and garlic

Steak
Citrus-Soy Chicken breasts
Grilled rosemary, onion and potato packets
Grilled veggies and orzo salad with a kickazz dressing (*see above)
Fresh fruit salad w/ grated lemon and a wee hint of mint
Homemade chocolat chip cookie ice cream sammiches: choc, vanilla (and coffee/Kahlua ones for the adults)

Booze, lots of it
Water w/ frozen fruit cubes for the kidlets
Iced tea w/ lemon

That should do it.

It was Pbbbbffffpbpbphphphpfffft. Thank you for asking. I'm not bitter. NO. Not me. *sobs*

About 10 families participated and we had about 12 people come around all day. All. Day.

We ended up donating a lot of the kids' clothes to Goodwill, as well as, some small cookware and appliances, dishes and glasses. Many things are still getting tossed on the curb on trash night.

My garage still looks like a dump site. A boxed, organized dump, but a dump nevertheless.

Aren't you glad you asked? laugh.gif

I feel for you sister. About a month ago we had a VILLAGE WIDE garage sale. I had 5 people all day. It was a really crappy day. Sucked for everyone.
