Thank you to you both. It was a quiet and wonderful day. A two hour walk on the beach with my two dogs, the Beach Boys, Zoomer and Zephyr.

My sweet wonderful hubby took me to lunch. Received a new computer for my birthday gift, because most of my volunteer work is done from the computer. Got new software a few months earlier.

I am feeling very old, guys and gals. Not the person I used to be. Sigh. But life is still good.

Many hugs to all on the boards...and thanks to those of you who count me among your friends.

smile.gif Happy B'Day...yesterday. What kind of dogs are Zoomer and Zephyr?Really great names...by the way! I feel old too...so you are not alone on that front. May I ask what kind of volunteer work you do on your computer? I think I need to do some volunteer work...I do not have enough to do to occupy my time.

I don't know that I would say he's better, just a little more mobile. Taking a man with an arm cast and a full leg cast out can be a chore, and by the time we got home he was done, but I had promised him that we would see this film the first day, and I keep my promises.

You should have seen me on the phone, earlier in the day, finding a movie theater, and a restaurant, where he would be comfortable. I don't know how people who have permanent handicaps do anything at all. It is a chore.

My friend, Steve, once said to me, while we were chatting on the phone, years ago, that "you guys are the best boyfriends I know". I thought that was nice of him to say, and sometimes I do have my moments. There are those other times, of course, but I think I did pretty good on this occasion.

Bear, Drew is lucky to have a guy like you, as I'm sure you are lucky to have a guy like him. Irrascible and out there as your posts may sometimes be, I think the two of you are on online example of how loving, dedicated, committed, nonthreatening, and "normal" (whatever that may mean) our gay family relationships are.

Dearest Bear,

Forgive me. I know Drew was...and is injured. Somehow I missed the post which described how it happened. Was he in an auto accident? Please update me when you have a chance. (Or if anyone else has knowledge of what happened, that would be fine as well.)

I surely am glad that he is home and recovering...however slowly. I am thinking about you and Drew and Denny. Not easy on anyone....sigh.

I am sending you positive thoughts with much love,

tcfan

Drew was going back to his office from lunch, and as he was crossing the road he was hit by a moron who ran a red light. He suffered a fractured leg, a broken arm, two broken ribs, and his lung collapsed as they were taking him to the hospital, causing cardiac arrest.

I was so scared I was going to lose him, and I didn't leave the hospital for longer than an hour until he was released the next week. I was pretty ripe, but content that he was okay.

He's at home now, making Denny and I crazy, because he can. He's just stir crazy, and I did manage to hook his computer up to his workplace so he can do something, anything.

We are all well.

When Harvey Korman died I almost asked who the third person would be, as you all know they go in threes, but I thought it would sound tacky.

It didn't help a bit though, and I opened the paper this morning to find that Yves St. Laurent died yesterday at age 71. I was a huge fan of his men's sportswear, and looked forward to what he would put out there in his women's wear collections. I'll miss him. He was a genius, in many ways.

Actually, we lost two original Star Trek personnel within 3 days of each other 2 weeks ago (May 15 and 18): Joe Pevney, who was tied for directing the most episodes of the original series, and Alexander Courage, who wrote the theme.

Am I telling my age if I say that I came running home from grade school to watch Dark Shadows and Star Trek? unsure.gif

I know Star Trek wub.gif was in it's first go around of re-runs, but Dark Shadows was at the end of its run. Gotta love 1972 and 2nd grade!

The only thing you're telling about your age is that you're considerably younger than I. I watched Dark Shadows and the original run of Star Trek when I was in high school. I got married in December 1972 and graduated college in May 1973!

Quick hello's and catching up from the porch

Many many thank-you's! After a 12 hour swat standoff they finally got the ************************ who assaulted my cousin. She's recovering, but right now only the immediate immediate family are able to see her. I thank you all for your prayers and thoughts.

Bear....knew it was serious, and now seeing how serious, I'm sure that even when he's at his crankiest, you appreciate Drew and are thankful for his love. Life is precious, and those we love and who love us make it even more precious.

OK...going to get coffee before I get sloppy sentimiental here. BUt again, this little board family is a treasure!

Jazz I am so glad your cousin is recovering and they got the SOB! I had a girlfriend that didn't survive her attack with a baseball bat (she had two babies) and it took them weeks the catch the slimeball.

Life is precious and it can change in an instant. I don't want to waste my time with hateful feelings, if I can't forget I'll forgive, I want to mean what I say and say what I mean and I think you can never tell someone you love them too many times.

Please accept my very best thoughts and prayers for your cousin's speedy recovery.

Oh Woshkie, I am completely jealous. What a bunch of rock gods to see. Of the above, only seen Clapton. Awesome. I had 5 older sisters and was utterly influenced by their music. Too young to be a hippie too old to be a yuppie. Geez, what generation does that put me in?

I saw The Monkees when they toured the first time, I did so because the Jimi Hendrix Experience was opening for them, and "Are You Experienced?" was an album that warped my fragile little mind. I had to see this, and I could have happily left when he ended his set.

As for The Monkees, themselves, I had seen better bands at mixers. I was all of 11 and I knew this. They were far more convincing on the cover of 16 magazine (I bet that's a mag that a lot of you don't remember).

I always felt bad for Peter Tork and Mike Nesmith, who were real musicians forced to take a back seat to Dolenz and Jones, who were primarily actors and mediocre musicians (not to mention the appalling Boyce & Hart material they had foisted upon them). Tork actually trained at Julliard and was buds with Stephen Stills. Nesmith had good cred with a number of folk bands and went on to invent the long-form music video.

I have a subscription to Elle, and I actually read it. It was given to me by some co-workers as a sort of gag gift. They know I watch Project Runway, and I did occasionally buy it, so they knew that, while it was funny, I would not be offended.

I just wonder, now, if they'll get me one to Marie Claire, which is where Nina Garcia is going, and is Runway's new voice. I don't know if I can deal with that one, to be perfectly honest with you. A friend once gave me three years of Gentleman's Quarterly, and I don't think I ever read one article the whole time it came to my house. It's kind of like that.

People I know are aware that I have an ipod, and that it, along with my cell phone, is something I don't leave the house without. It allows me to be entertained anywhere I may be, so an odd thing has happened. If I do something nice for someone I'll get back to my office and I'll find, not a "thank you" card, but a $25.00 gift card for itunes. Does that happen to anybody else here, or is it just me?

Anyhow, I took a colleague out for an inexpensive lunch and came back a couple of days ago to find a $50.00 gift card, which is always nice. I went to itunes and, since I had just seen "Sex and the City", I got a plethora of episodes from all 6 seasons. Hey, at $1.99 a pop, it's a great buy. I also got the new Usher, which is a terrific ride, but the one thing I got that I didn't know much about is the album by Duffy.

She's a young, blonde, blue eyed Welsh girl who, like Amy Winehouse, inexplicably, does soul music. I had heard the free single, "Mercy", at itunes, but, while the single was pleasant, I didn't expect much. It turns out that "Mercy" is the worst track on the album, and I'm very happily surprised. So, my question is, what does anybody here know about her? I'm curious.

Now that you mention it, I kinda, sorta, remember you saying something to that affect. Unfortunately that was after getting the free, totally pleasant, and completely unremarkable "Mercy", and it did a fly by on me. In fact, the "free" part probably added to my writing it off. Sad, but true. How could something be great if I got it without paying?

When I first played the CD I actually was surprised when we finally got to that track. I wasn't impressed enough by it to remember that it was on "Rockferry". She's great, but, I still don't she's as wondrous as Amy is. Then again, I didn't appreciate Amy until "Back to Black", so she will get even better as she makes more music.

It was cancer. Just so freaking sad...so young and talented. I've been watching all the youtube videos just to see him play the guitar. I don't know how I missed the news back in March but it sure cast a black cloud over this day.

Sorry sweets I wasn't trying to open old wounds. I was shocked I hadn't heard of his death and wanted to share a little of his brilliance. Don't know how many people have heard of him.

I found it terribly sad that he was gone and even worse, I didn't know. Not an American artist so not big news. I truly enjoy his music and really wish there could have been more.

Love the Kinks and Eric Burton has the most amazing voice. And Janis, oh how I wish I could have seen her.

We were really lucky to be able to see such greats in our own city. The Commodore was legendary and I'm not sure when but I went home to Lowell to visit around 20 years ago and it was torn down. They had built an ultra modern train station there. So sad. And ironically speaking of the Kinks it was just like that song "Come Dancing" and how they tore down the palais "part of my childhood died, just died". Life is so ironic, eh? Also regarding Janis. We were standing along side the stage before her concert and this woman came over to where we were. She was yelling at a couple of men and appeared drunk and very upset. I didn't even recognize her but my date said " that's her". Well it was so weird because she was such a legend and when you see someone up close it doesn't connect. She was tiny! People think she was big because in her later life (24 or 25) she was quite bloated, but she was very short and skinny when we saw her. She tore it up that night. All the while chuggin on a large bottle of Southern Comfort. When the fans started chanting for her to sing "Piece of My Heart" she got really pissed off. Apparently she hated how commercial that song had become. Such a tortured artist. Oh how I go on talkin about the day. By the way guys going on 35 days smoke free,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,yippee!

Watching "300" again! Didn't make it at the theatre, but took me back to my childhood! I remember getting up early to watch Hercules and other gladiator type movies; this took me back! Some great BODIES in there! Anyone watch the videos on YouTube describing how they got so chiseled? Loved the way it was filmed; slow motion, blood splatter, costuming! It really took me back! HOT!!!!

Radys I just do NOT want you to feel bad lol
I'm sorry.

I would have found out sooner or later but I godda' tell ya' his death just hit me hard.
He's so young..Too young.. And he has kidlets and a wife and he was just the sweetest man alive. I didn't know he battled cancer all his life.Well as Bear said a life well lived. Some of us don't get kidlets or wives or even a chance to share our music with the world ..So I guess we just try to celebrate the life and the beautiful music he gave us after the shock has worn off...And we just miss them is all. That song is on my main playlist so I listen to my guy a lot.

Legendary blues and jazz guitarist Jeff Healey has died, his publicist said Sunday. The Canadian musician had battled cancer his entire life.

"It was something he fought with considerable bravery," his publicist, Richard Flohil, told Newsnet late Sunday.

Healey, 41, had lost his eyesight to a rare form of the disease, retinoblastoma, at the age of one.

The musician had performed with such acclaimed guitar players as B. B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert Collins and George Harrison.

His full name was Norman Jeffrey Healey and he passed away Sunday in the city of his birth, Toronto, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Healey first began playing guitar at the age of three and formed his first band while still a teenager, according to his website. He played with a very distinctive style, laying his guitar on his lap.

"Visually, Jeff was an intriguing player to watch, because he played guitar -- by any conventional standard -- all wrong, with it flat across his lap," said Flohil. "But he was remarkable, a virtuoso player."

One of his best-known songs, "Angel Eyes," came from the Grammy-nominated album See the Light.

His blues band, simply called the Jeff Healey Band, has sold more than 1 million albums in the United States. But along with rock and blues music, Healey was also an accomplished jazz musician.

In his final years he had hosted a jazz program on Jazz-FM in Toronto, playing rare tracks from his vast collection of more than 30,000 78-rpm records.

He had also been touring with a group called the Jazz Wizards, playing American jazz from the 1920s, 1930s and early 1940s.

They had been planning to perform a series of shows in Britain, German and Holland in April.

Healey leaves behind his wife, Cristie, 13-year-old daughter Rachel and three-year-old son Derek.

No need for you to be sorry. I was glad to have a place to vent. I used to live in the Upper Peninsula and became familiar with many Canadian artists. I wasn't really sure if anyone here would know his work. You are right I will celebrate his life and music.

Just a sidenote.... Jeff Healy was the musician shown in the movie "Roadhouse" with Patric Dempsey.
