Folks.....I'm trying real hard to contain myself here....but

My manuscript was accepted for publication, and I have been formally offered a contract!!!!!

wacko.gif Now I have until August 1st to write the last six chapters. Champagne for all on the porch, tuck me in when I start snoring!!!!

With that kind of deadline, and six chapters to go, well, I'm going to turn the porch over (temporarily, mind you) and ask Tater and 2P's to take charge for awhile.

I feel like a fireworks just went off inside me!!!!

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Congratulations! I've written, on the average, a book a year, and I've never published, so just know how proud, and how jealous as all hell, I am.

Get your publish on babe!

CONGRATS

JAZZIE

. . . even Angela is happy for you!

Jazzie53
Thanks so much guys, this has been an unexpected, but very welcome outcome. I've been writing for decades, but this is my first true venture out of the poetry/photography venues and into fiction. My creative writing teacher encouraged me to turn my short story for our final into a novel and submit it for publication. I truly never expected my first manuscript to be accepted by the first publisher I submitted it to, on the first go round at that! Thank goodness for the Writer's Guide and Writer's Digest....I've been a'skeered of being ripped off! ph34r.gif

Ok, as right now, I need to sign the contract (which of course I will!) and finish the remainder of the book by August 1st. They then have 365 days to get it in print and published. So this will be awhile. The title is "Confronting the Demon" and it has been accepted by PublishAmerica. To be continued....right now I am heading off to cook dinner for my guys.....jasmine rice with sauteed cabbage and onions and broiled round steak. There's enough to go round...DIG IN!
Jazzie

PS: Thanks Tater and 2P, and 2P....on the charter school, not yet squared away, we have two more weeks to round up 23 more students.....and you'd best know I'm optimistic that we can do it. But I ended up (how?????) being the main parent contact and organizer, so yeah....save me a spot on the PR OT board....I may need it just to keep some semblance of sanity!

I have a rather long rant.....cruise on by if you're not interested.

Spent all weekend feeling like crap...lots of naps. Weather was extremely hot for Michigan in the first part of June. (The week before we were still getting frost warnings at nite.) Anyway 90's+ with the heat index over 100. Sunday at 5:20 the storm blew in---70-80 MPH winds, rain, tornado sirens the whole nine yards. Lost power.

Husband not so good with heat and no TV---not pretty!! Have a small battery run TV, only got one station tho, got a battery run radio, so at least have some access to information. I plugged in the brutally ghetto land line phone (cell phone battery about half charged and I don't have the car charger....I know but I don't really use it that much). I have a gas stove so I can use the cooktop if I manually light the burners.Too freaking hot and windy to even fire up the grill. So, ok, not too bad....other than it's hot as the hubs of hell with more storms coming. There are 170,000 without power and it may not be restored til Wed. nite!!!

We were one of the lucky ones and power was restored about 6 PM last nite. I got a late fee on a bill I couldn't pay online--no internet access. Lost everything in my fridge and freezer.

While I piss and moan, I do know that it could have been a whole lot worse. I am bone weary from the stress, but I am also amazed at the conviences I take for granted everyday...dishwasher, sump pump, garbage disposal, hair dryer, refrigerator, washer and dryer, vacuum cleaner....air conditioner, computer, TV.

Radys I went through it a few times with the hurricanes...It was a nightmare. So sorry but glad you are all ok...YES we must remember every day to be grateful just for running water and of course I do forget that.
Radyms13
Jazzie I am so happy for your good news!!! Celebrate.....with lots of dancing and singing!!! Feel the Joy! Well an adult beverage would also be nice.

Well folks,

Jazzie is kind of buzy getting the last chapters of her book finished by the dead line set. I'm pretty sure she knows that all of us porch-peeps will buy out the first printing of the novel.

She put Tater Tot and me in charge of the porch in her absence and I have to come up with some good food for us to nibble on for the finale of the show. I went all the way to the "big town" this morning and was able to get a steamship round roast - it's like a pork standing rib roast. It will be ready for all y'all by show time. We grill alot at our house so I will have mixed veggies (squash, onions, red and green bell peppers, zuchinni, carrots, I might have snap peas, and spices) all wrapped up in foil and grilled until good and tender, grilled Vidalia onions (just 2 counties over so I get them REAL fresh), and sweet potatoes.

I'm going out to one of the orchards to see if there are enough ripe peaches to make a peach pie and home-made vanilla ice cream. If I fine enough peaches, I'll make a batch of peach ice-cream as well.

Sorry to use this reply feature as a request for help but my computer is acting crazy on the Bravo boards today. Instead of showing everything in normal time posting sequence it's showing up as "threaded" replies by topic. I know there are over 100 pages using the normal sequence and in this mode there are only 25 and is very confusing. I've tried everything I know to bring it back to the normal display -- to no avail.

Could someone please help me? The only way I can be sure to receive your reply is if you PM it to me. At least that feature is unchanged in my computer.

Thanks, I appreciate any help you can provide!

I'm going to post this over on the Finale part 1 episode as well, if I'm able.

I am hereby deferring to everyone’s wisdom in my plea for help – I know you will come through!

I am the matron/maid of honor (no jokes please, this is the “official title” smile.gif) for my friend Carol’s wedding. She is a bit older than most first-time brides and wants the ceremony to be intimate, short and sweet. There will be a reception-type-thing following and one of my duties is to compile a couple of hours of prerecorded music for it. Like I said, I know you “guys” can help! I need suggestions. The genre is 70’s and 80’s – even 90’s - Soul/R&B (a la Barry White, Aretha Franklin, etc.) and “standards”. She does want dancing to ensue. It is to take place on 8/1/2008 so I am under a bit of a time crunch! Any and all suggestions are welcome – as I am useless in the “music department"!!

PLEASE, COME TO MY RESCUE smile.gif PM me if you want to “spare the space” on the boards. Thanks, in advance for your help!

Yeah, I knew what you were trying to do. Drew always compliments me on my ability to crank out these "craptastic" books, year after year. I think he feels, much like I do, admittedly, that if you continue to throw sh*t at the wall, then one of these times, I'll get lucky, and it will stick.

It's not going to happen, though, if I continue to fill them with these incredibly stupid compound sentences. It's an addiction that I'm trying to kick, with little luck, as you can see.

But if someone I know publishes, then it gives me hope, so, Jazzie, get on with your badass publishing ways!

Which one?

There are about twenty of the things that I've actually kept, in some demented thought process, that I'll go back and fix them.

Yeah, I know, that's really going to happen, since I have so much free time, but you're welcome to it if you wish. I will warn you, though, that some are 500+ pages long.

Tater,

How does enchiladas NOT go with steamship round and veggies? I love them both! wub.gif It's called bringing all regional flavors together for everyone to enjoy. We now have Tex/Mex and Southern, we need Midwest, Californian, Northwest, Chinese, Peg's not-so-out-of-the-norm Phillipino, MoHub's kosher (love the stuff). Oy, the list gets longer. huh.gif

I have the shaker, but I'll need help shaking it. tongue.gif

I'll go through my music collection later tonight. I have about 1500 songs on my computer, plus hundreds of CDs. I'm sure I can come up with something for you. Question though for the Soul/R&B part... is that the only "kind" of music she wants from each year or is it everything (pop, rock etc.) including Soul/R&B. I hope that makes sense lol

Oh GAWD easy...BUT I need nore specifics You want easy listening type stuff or
any hard rock... I mean Elton John...Supremes??
Thin Lizzy ....Sex Pistols???? biggrin.gif

Donna Summer dance....Abba???

Romantic?????

Well you should maybe put them into categories slow dance then fast

AND you must play

Sister Sledge ....We Are Family
Color...My World Chicago.... Shania Twain.
Oh you know that one.....the ever
popular Makarena and

Electric Slide song...must have wedding
standards..... AND of course

the chicken dance song tongue.gif

I've got playlists from hell and between all of us we are gonna' SO help you out my luv!

Thank you, dearest - category = Soul/R&B - Elton John and The Supremes are OK - NO DISCO (also exclude Sister Sledge), NO COUNTRY, NO "ROCK"

Sorry if I wasn't clear - "Standards" = 20's, 30's 40's songs NOT the Makerana, Electric Slide or chicken dance type fare.

I am gay but this is a "straight" wedding. I could do Cliché on my own.

Help is what I need!

That answers my above question lol

I'll go through my music collection later tonight. I have about 1500 songs on my computer, plus hundreds of CDs. I'm sure I can come up with something for you. Question though for the Soul/R&B part... is that the only "kind" of music she wants from each year or is it everything (pop, rock etc.) including Soul/R&B. I hope that makes sense lol

Thanks for the offer! It does make sense. The playlist should lean more toward Soul/R&B not a "greatest hits" type thing for the time span. I am not sure of any way to be more clear - that edict is what she gave me. Sorry for my short-comings! smile.gif

Thanks, again!

MoHub's kosher (love the stuff).

Actually, although I know the rules backwards and forwards, I don't keep kosher and roast a mean pork tenderloin, put cheese on my burgers, and adore Chicken Cordon Bleu!

And bacon! I lurve bacon!

But I can and do cook traditional Jewish food as well, and it's pretty delish!

I am hereby deferring to everyone's wisdom in my plea for help – I know you will come through!

I am the matron/maid of honor (no jokes please, this is the "official title" smile.gif ) for my friend Carol's wedding. She is a bit older than most first-time brides and wants the ceremony to be intimate, short and sweet. There will be a reception-type-thing following and one of my duties is to compile a couple of hours of prerecorded music for it. Like I said, I know you "guys" can help! I need suggestions. The genre is 70's and 80's – even 90's - Soul/R&B (a la Barry White, Aretha Franklin, etc.) and "standards". She does want dancing to ensue. It is to take place on 8/1/2008 so I am under a bit of a time crunch! Any and all suggestions are welcome – as I am useless in the "music department"!!

PLEASE, COME TO MY RESCUE smile.gif PM me if you want to "spare the space" on the boards. Thanks, in advance for your help!

bJ, go a little farther back, The Temptations, Otis Redding, Aretha, etc....late 60s - early 70s. Stuff like Sam & Dave gets peeps dancin' too. biggrin.gif

I have Aretha "wrapped up"! smile.gif Thanks for the other suggestions. I know the groups of the era but need help with specific songs (otherwise, I'd be spending the next several days sampling an insane amount of music). I'm too lazy for that if I can get away with help from others/"youse guys". smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

You're the one that mentions all the good kosher ones and I was hoping you might be able to sneak one or two of them in as you sashay onto the porch. rolleyes.gif CaLady will have you a nice big cheeseburger if she makes it tonight. I usually don't like cheese on my burgers, but she has the knack.....

I hear thunder off in the distance so I better get my fares off to the porch. huh.gif I've had to slap my kids' hand more than once this afternoon as they've tried to "taste" the food. If they had their way, there would be nothing left. unsure.gif

Smokey Robinson, Lionel Ritchie and throw in a little Righteous Brothers too. I'll keep throwing names out and I'll bet we can all come up with tons of ideas.

I can bring my cranberry noodle kugel, which is bound with what's essentially a cheesecake mixture. Kosher-style dairy dish.

I'd do matzohball soup, but it's too hot today to even think about!

And I still have that unopened bottle of Sabra!

Sadly I have nothing to bring to the porch tonite. Cleaned out the fridge and still have to restock after the power outage. But I will happily refill drinks and clean up when everyone goes home. Just be aware ya'll I'll be the loudest one in the Stephanie cheering corner of the porch!!!!

Rady, if you can help with the shaker, it would be most appreciated. All of us understand about your situation.

I sliced my finger this afternoon in my preps. It was the first time in the 30 some-odd years I've actually been cooking. I put a steri-strip on it, then a bandage and kept on working.

The roast should be out of the oven in about 20 minutes and is smells wonderful. I hope y'all are hungry and that Tater is bringing plenty of enchiladas. Mo Hub, I'm glad you're bringing a dessert wub.gif because the peaches aren't ripe yet. mad.gif

I feel ya.

Its been crazy around my house and there is no letting up anytime soon. I went to get something out of the freezer to cook yesterday and all I saw was the back of my freezer. I normally keep a few hamburgers Ive pattied up for busy nights or bags of chili, soup or spaghetti sauce or maybe even a casserole but there was nutten!

Looks like I gotta go to the grocery store but we are doing take out tonight. We had a mom and pop diner open a few months ago and its the only place that delivers around here. Its so cool getting things like fried chicken dinners, biscuits&gravy, baked pork chops, steak sandwiches, fried okra,etc... delivered and weve become very spoiled. Im not saying its healthy but its mighty tasty.

Wow that sounds really good. I faking it...corner store has a little deli so I got some roast beef and swiss cheese to make french dip sandwiches. I'm not happy about losing the food but I was depressed when I had to throw out my homemade frozen treasures!

OK I'm a glutton for punishment......I will wager my vintage copper (not sure if it's real copper) fondue set, complete with the forks with different colored tips, that Stephanie wins.

That does stink, having to throw food away due to the power outage.

When I was really young,my parents bought half a hog. Like 2 days later, our deep freeze "up and died" as my mom says. We cooked and ate pork for 3 straight days. I love pork and bacon is the best thing ever but I couldnt eat pork for weeks after that. Thank goodness we didnt have much else in the deep freeze but mom and dad never bought a hog again. If that had happened when we bought half a cow,I think I would have ran away from home.
