From "I've Got It All," sung by Madeline Kahn in On the Twentieth Century:

Life is really great; my silverware is gold.

Of course, to be picky, there's always the term flatware.

That does stink, having to throw food away due to the power outage.

When I was really young,my parents bought half a hog. Like 2 days later, our deep freeze "up and died" as my mom says. We cooked and ate pork for 3 straight days. I love pork and bacon is the best thing ever but I couldnt eat pork for weeks after that. Thank goodness we didnt have much else in the deep freeze but mom and dad never bought a hog again. If that had happened when we bought half a cow,I think I would have ran away from home.

Can't say as I blame ya. That's a lot of pork!!! I am glad I didn't have the big freezer full but I just kept seeing money as I filled that big black garbage bag.....and no I don't really know if it was a Glad bag.

I have Aretha "wrapped up"! smile.gif Thanks for the other suggestions. I know the groups of the era but need help with specific songs (otherwise, I'd be spending the next several days sampling an insane amount of music). I'm too lazy for that if I can get away with help from others/"youse guys". smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

Another One Bites The Dust...Queen

Dirty Laundry........Don Henley

The Eye Of The Tiger...Survivor

I feel ya.

Its been crazy around my house and there is no letting up anytime soon. I went to get something out of the freezer to cook yesterday and all I saw was the back of my freezer. I normally keep a few hamburgers Ive pattied up for busy nights or bags of chili, soup or spaghetti sauce or maybe even a casserole but there was nutten!

Looks like I gotta go to the grocery store but we are doing take out tonight. We had a mom and pop diner open a few months ago and its the only place that delivers around here. Its so cool getting things like fried chicken dinners, biscuits&gravy, baked pork chops, steak sandwiches, fried okra,etc... delivered and weve become very spoiled. Im not saying its healthy but its mighty tasty.

smile.gif Wow...you are so lucky. We only have 1 mom & pop place (my favorite kind of place to eat)...and we won't eat there...cause we saw roaches there....yuck!!!

I can bring my cranberry noodle kugel, which is bound with what's essentially a cheesecake mixture. Kosher-style dairy dish.

I'd do matzohball soup, but it's too hot today to even think about!

And I still have that unopened bottle of Sabra!

biggrin.gif Oh yumm...that kugel would be great. I'm sure your Sabra will be appreciated...see you there, MoHub.

Rady, if you can help with the shaker, it would be most appreciated. All of us understand about your situation.

I sliced my finger this afternoon in my preps. It was the first time in the 30 some-odd years I've actually been cooking. I put a steri-strip on it, then a bandage and kept on working.

The roast should be out of the oven in about 20 minutes and is smells wonderful. I hope y'all are hungry and that Tater is bringing plenty of enchiladas. Mo Hub, I'm glad you're bringing a dessert wub.gif because the peaches aren't ripe yet. mad.gif

smile.gif 2P...I have no idea what a shaker is. Sorry about your finger.
I am also bringing Carne Guisada and banana pudding. Aww
shucks...sure was looking forward to the peaches with MoHubs
Sabra...too bad they are not ripe. Well...I'm sure everyone
will bring something and we will have all the regions covered.
I just hope Sampeg brings something other than bopis...I
don't think that would go over too well. See you there.

Folks.....I'm trying real hard to contain myself here....but

My manuscript was accepted for publication, and I have been formally offered a contract!!!!!

wacko.gif Now I have until August 1st to write the last six chapters. Champagne for all on the porch, tuck me in when I start snoring!!!!

With that kind of deadline, and six chapters to go, well, I'm going to turn the porch over (temporarily, mind you) and ask Tater and 2P's to take charge for awhile.

I feel like a fireworks just went off inside me!!!!

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Wow....what fun! Good music, good food, good drinks!!! Yeah! I could go for it....but I need to nap first LOL!

Between the "Save Our School" effort for my son's charter school (if we don't meet the enrollment minimum by 06-24-08, the school board won't renew our charter!) and the book....well, I have been a busy little (or not so little laugh.gif )Jazzikins-Mom this week!

THE Book....y'know, still doesn't seem like it's real yet (course, when I look at my outline and the changes I want to make on the chapter I'm working on now...it's real it's real, oh ***** it is so real!)

Finale dinner? Well, the hubby's got a big pot of pinto beans with a smoked ham hock on the stove, and I have some jalapeno cornbread leftover from yesterday...anyone interested?

Now....wake me up before 10 pm PST!

Well folks,

Jazzie is kind of buzy getting the last chapters of her book finished by the dead line set. I'm pretty sure she knows that all of us porch-peeps will buy out the first printing of the novel.

She put Tater Tot and me in charge of the porch in her absence and I have to come up with some good food for us to nibble on for the finale of the show. I went all the way to the "big town" this morning and was able to get a steamship round roast - it's like a pork standing rib roast. It will be ready for all y'all by show time. We grill alot at our house so I will have mixed veggies (squash, onions, red and green bell peppers, zuchinni, carrots, I might have snap peas, and spices) all wrapped up in foil and grilled until good and tender, grilled Vidalia onions (just 2 counties over so I get them REAL fresh), and sweet potatoes.

I'm going out to one of the orchards to see if there are enough ripe peaches to make a peach pie and home-made vanilla ice cream. If I fine enough peaches, I'll make a batch of peach ice-cream as well.

Have I told you lately, that I love you?

I am hereby deferring to everyone's wisdom in my plea for help – I know you will come through!

I am the matron/maid of honor (no jokes please, this is the "official title" smile.gif ) for my friend Carol's wedding. She is a bit older than most first-time brides and wants the ceremony to be intimate, short and sweet. There will be a reception-type-thing following and one of my duties is to compile a couple of hours of prerecorded music for it. Like I said, I know you "guys" can help! I need suggestions. The genre is 70's and 80's – even 90's - Soul/R&B (a la Barry White, Aretha Franklin, etc.) and "standards". She does want dancing to ensue. It is to take place on 8/1/2008 so I am under a bit of a time crunch! Any and all suggestions are welcome – as I am useless in the "music department"!!

PLEASE, COME TO MY RESCUE smile.gif PM me if you want to "spare the space" on the boards. Thanks, in advance for your help!

First, Congratulations Mantron of Honor! *woot!*

Second, if Chuck Berry's "You Never Can Tell"
http://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/coldfeet/younevercantell.htm

doesn't get them dancing, then they are sorry slags. No offense. blush.gif

Also, Etta James' "At Last". puhleeeeze. Love, love and more love in that song. http://www.links2love.com/love_lyrics_441.htm

For my own wedding, I married a man much older than I and he had been married once before. We were together for 6 years before we actually did the marriage deed. IMagine the second guessers we dealt with before and during our marriage. *whatever-yeah, I said it!*
OUR first song?

Shania Twain's "You're Still the One" http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/shaniatwain...tilltheone.html

I really stink at songs. Truly. I learn from everyone else, but these have to be my all time favorite "lovey" and meaningful songs.

I hope these get your music on.

Thanks Pita. It's kinda back to normal (whatever that is). Gotta restock the fridge and freezer but it'll be ok. I'm excited about the show tonite and tomorrow I'm going to my grandson's graduation from kindergarten. Well, I had a craptacular day at work. A supposed client, who felt like stringing me along for chits and giggles, cowardly tried to bypass me today. Little did he know that I saw him when he was trying to skulk out of the office.

Yes, I am not above chasing someone out of a building. When I caught up with him and ask him the what and why-fors, he gave me the ol'

"It's not you, it's me" speech.

Been there, done that, have the negative bank account to prove it.
Thanks.

I poured on my most syrup-py sweet, lyric voice, warm handshake and best wishes I could possibly muster, all the while grinding my teeth into some semblance of a smile.

So, I pulling out the Big Boy tonight. I've wagered the advocado green coffe urn, circa 1976 and I've wagered the tri-bowl silver-plated condiment set. But, tonight ladies and gentlemen, I mean business. I'm betting the whole she-bang.

After today, I am betting the vintage Electrolux canister vac that sucks like nobody's business. You can have your Hoovers, you can have your Eurekas, dare I say it, you can have your Dysons.

Electrolux cannisters ruled/rule. I'm betting the aqua blue Electrolux that Lisa bites the Polish Sausage and goes down in a flaming mess against the sterling victory of Stephanie. Richard will graciously hug/kiss/ and gentlemanly concede to the victor. Lisa will whine. Lisa will scowl. But, Lisa will go down in a blaise *wink* of stupidity.

smile.gif Well...I'm not much of a drinker anymore. Once in a while I may have a drink at a restaurant, or maybe a few beers at someones house...but, thats about it. It is just not worth the hang-over to me anymore.

I don't think I will take that bet.... it is 2 hours till show time here on the left coast and like a dummy I thought I would log on and see what is shaking... of course Bravo has already updated the home page so I now know the outcome of the finale before I watch it... who would of thought Bravo that has forgotten to update the threads for posting would be so efficient. Oh Noooo! I'm sorry. sad.gif

I'm keeping the Electrolux afterall, but I still have an advocado green coffee urn and a silver plated tri-bowl condiment tray still available.

No. I didn't think so. *head down, kicks dirt*
Pita
Keeping the Electrolux almost makes up for chiteous psuedo-client. Almost. Thus, the many vodka and cranberries this evening.

I wish I didn't take it to heart, but I do. Especially, when I do have a nice client sphere from which I work. Good people. Good transactions. Good rapport. Then this Schhha- Muck.

Why do I let one bad apple ruin the bunch?

*that forehead vessel is thumping again*

I should probably go chug a glass of water and go to bed. Drift off into LaLa Land while I forget about Mr. Ashole.

OK -- I've never been here before -- so don't be mean if it's not the right kind of question to ask -- just ignore me -- here goes:

I have to make book-club-night dinner that centers around New Zealand. It's for about 12 people. I looked up recipes but all I found was a lot of lamb and stewed meat. The dinner is in August, so I was hoping to make something lighter -- like shrimp. Isn't New Zealand an island? I couldn't find any fish dishes.

Anyone have any ideas? I'd greatly appreciate some suggestions.

I gurgled wink.gif " Modern New Zealand cuisne recipes" and came back with several.

Well Teesee,

I'm allergic to seafood, so all I could offer is land food. I'll keep an eye out for you.

The people I know from NZ are very big on lamb for sure. But I was at a wedding last year and they caught tuna and put it on the grill. That was good. I'm trying to think what else?

Oh my yes! Great choice there....love Santana!

Don't recall name or performers, but loved the theme from the movie
"Same Time Next Year" just beautiful and romantic piece from that era.

Plus....there was a lovely duet back in the late 70's, and I cannot for the life of me pull any lyrics out of my memory at all! It was kind of a male/femaile response? I'm putting it around the same time as "Longer than..." oh heck! Guess I drank too many margaritas back then to recall the music any better!

PS: must get busy on chapter four....only five more left to go when I finish this one! *still in shock*

Knew it would drive me crazy till I tracked it down.....here's my all time favorite romantic song from 1979! It was done in a duet with Billy Preston and Syreeta Wright!

Title: With You I'm Born Again

(David Shire and Carol Connor)

Come bring me your softness
Comfort me through all this madness
Woman, don't you know
With you I'm born again

Come give me your sweetness
Now there's you, there is no weakness
Lying safe within your arms
I'm born again

I was half, not whole
In step with none
Reaching through this world
In need of one

Come show me your kindness
In your arms I know I'll find this
Woman, don't you know
With you I'm born again
Lying safe with you I'm born again

Come bring me your softness
Comfort me through all this madness
Woman, don't you know
With you I'm born again

Come give me your sweetness
Now there's you, there is no weakness
Lying safe within your arms
I'm born again
Woman, don't you know
With you I'm born again

I was half, not whole
In step with none
Reaching through this world
In need of one

Come show me your kindness
In your arms I know I'll find this
Woman, don't you know
With you I'm born again
Lying safe with you I'm born again

I don't remember if I told youse guys (at least those of youse who know me well) that I got an ipod nano during the holiday season, and that I love it. Well, the headphone jack went on it, and, since it's still under warranty, they are sending me a bag to send it back to them, and they'll send me a new one.

I listen to it a lot, though, and I've been kind of down about it not working. It's really small, and the 4GB space is good enough for lots of tunes, and a few TV shows, so I've been missing it.

Yesterday Denny asked me why I wasn't using it, since he knows how fond I am of always having entertainment. When I told him what was up he excused himself and left the room.

When he returned he had a small box, and told me that he had a father's day gift for me, but he figured that he could give it to me a few days early. It's an ipod classic which holds 80GB, and he had been saving his money for 6 months so he could buy it for me. Yes, he had saved $250.00 so he could give me a nice father's day gift. He included a $100.00 gift card and I abruptly turned on the waterworks.

So, it's big enough to hold almost my entire itunes collection, and I've been having a grand old time getting stuff from itunes that I wouldn't normally buy with my cash, but is wonderful for free. Do I have the greatest grandson in the world, or what?

2. You've got a great young man there!

You have every right to turn on the waterworks!!! smile.gif

I don't think I would have cared if it had just 2MG on it, I would have loved it as I'm sure you would have, too - because it came from the heart of a young man who saved his hard earned money to buy it for you. wub.gif

80MG ?? Man, you've got one perceptive boy there. rolleyes.gif

OK, guys/gals! I am a bit tipsy. I have run across a song for the wedding. I want it to be MY song with the bride (my best friend). Being a great big homo/theatre guy, I am having huge visions of a giant "impromptu" Broadway-style musical number! smile.gif My whole life (in my head, at least) is a series of production numbers strung together by sequeys!

I thought you folks would appreciate/get a kick out of this and would have the imagination to envision the "number".

Here's the song:

I LOVE that song and the way he sings it. I had my own visions of that being my song for my wedding, should I ever get married. I visioned it with my ex-boyfriend so it makes me sad now lol. But excellent song.
