But I really did sit on the dock (of a lake, but it was a big lake) and cried when OR died. But the all time cry fest was for Henry Fonda. Oh, my--I sobbed and slobbered 'til I was puffy eyed and then some.

Yep that was sad...also when James Stewart died.Henry Fonda was such a great actor. IMO Henry Fonda, James Stewart, and George Kennedy (I think he is still with us) are some of the finest actors ever!

KK,

ya shoudda

ya coudda

but'ja didn't!

One of the most favorite gifts I ever was given was Lou Rand Hogan's culinary masterpiece . . .

The Gay Cookbook

. . . many years ago. It still sits proudly on my shelf in the kitchen and I use it from time to time, 'specially his humorous recipe for "Swish Steak." I enjoyed it so much I bought 10 copies for some of my better friends when it first came out.

Shame on you, KK!

So PSH isn't a good enough GBF to be worth a $99 gift that he'll treasure forever and thank his lucky stars that some one appreciates him enough to buy it fer him? Fer shame! I've been checking on the internet and copies are available anywhere from $39.88 and up. If that's still too pricy you could always spring for a "Gay Cookbook" apron that only goes for $19.99. It's the least you could do.

. . .now feel ashamed and sorry
whilst I pull a PSH
and
F-L-I-T !!!

OMG...I love it... laugh.gif ...It's just my size too...Y'all know me too well... tongue.gif ... wub.gif ...

YOU SAW OTIS REDDING????? I remember wearing black armbands when he died. Sittin on the dock of the bay....wonderful song then...still wonderful now.

It was some of Otis' other songs that made me a fan of his: "Respect", "I Can't Get No Satisfaction", "Try A Little Tenderness", and "I Can't Turn You Loose". These were some of the Redding songs that were played by the local band in the nightclub I used to frequent.

Otis died too early - he was 26.

Now I know, "Spanish harlem" are not just pretty words

I thought I knew, but now I know that rose trees never grow,

Until you've seen this trash can dream come true,
You stand at the edge, while people run you through.
And I thank the Lord, there's people out there like you,
I thank the Lord there's people out there like you.

While Mona Lisas and mad hatters,
sons of bankers, sons of lawyers,
turn around and say, "good morning" to the night.
For unless they see the sky, but they can't and that is why,
they know not if it's dark out side or light.

This Broadway's got, its got a lot of songs to sing,

if I knew the tunes I might join in.
I go my way alone, grow my own,
my own seeds shall be sown, in New York city.
Subways no way , for a good man to go down,
Rich man can ride, and the hobo he can drown.

And I thank the Lord for the people I have found,
I thank the Lord for the people I have found.

While Mona Lisas and mad hatters,
sons of bankers, sons of lawyers,

Speaking as a "ex" Ford mechanic I have to let you know that the Contour was one of Fords worst ideas ever....it was a "transition "vehicle"... something to sell since we don't have the planned line ready. Contours had a ton of recalls for dumb stuff and if it has been reliable for you , you have been lucky. Also, if you have a trans go out get ready for a $3000.00 bill (which is more than the car is worth). My reccomendation...drive it till it quits then haul it to the wrecking yard.....do not invest any "real" money in it. Please note ,I do like Ford products... all cars in my family are Fords... I drive a 93 Aerostar with 210,000 miles on it.

Was about to reply the same way.Contours did have scads of recalls including radiator fan motor relay problems. If you're unsure about the recalls you can check them online. www.autozone.com has a complete list of recall numbers for vehicles. It was from that site that I learned about the recall on my Mazda's front left coil spring breakage. I'm with Fordman on the Contour. It was a mess... but then... I'm biased and don't care for any Fords!

QUOTE (Fordmanrod @ July 14, 2008 - 08:10 AM) *
Rodent damage is actually a common occurance...what is really nasty is when a critter crawls into the heater/ a/c system and dies.... getting the smell out can be costly ...as much as a $1000.00 on some cars.

The dealership I work for gets all used cars. Some of them have been sitting for quite a while. Rodent damage is prevalent under the hood and can cause a slew of problems. Methods I have used with good results to ward off rodent nesting include a sack of mothballs tied under the hood away from moving or hot parts and also (as icky as it sounds) those toilet bowl fresheners that you hang on the side of the bowl. And yes, when a rodent holes up in the blower motor... oh joy what fun. I pull out a pound of insultation and poop pellets from a Chrysler last week.

Customer asks, "Why does my a/c make that horrid sound?"

I respond, "Well, it could be that mouse using it for its personal Tilt-o-Whirl..."

Gotcha beat! I had a 1966 Corvair!

1981 Ford Fairmont wagon. Burnt orange exterior and interior color. Horn on the turn signal switch. Push the horn and the turn signal handle would fall onto the floor board. Wouldn't run on rainy or muggy days due to moisture build up in the distributor. I hated that car. But I could make it go 120 miles per hour. The speedometer would go back around past zero. Still. Hated that car.

Now I know doh

Now I know, "Spanish harlem" are not just pretty words
to say.
I thought I knew, but now I know that rose trees never grow,
in New York city.

While Mona Lisas and mad hatters,
sons of bankers, sons of lawyers,
turn around and say, "good morning" to the night.
For unless they see the sky, but they can't and that is why,
they know not if it's dark out side or light.

While Mona Lisas and mad hatters,
sons of bankers, sons of lawyers,

they know not if it's dark outside or light,
they know not if it's dark outside or light.

Hey, sweets! My first car was a 1966 Rambler Classic...front seats folded back to make a bed...great for the Drive In movies...that is it would have been if I had known anything at all about sex at 15...damn

Stewart is my favorite of all time! I remember composing a letter to him in my head, but I never sent it; he died later that year. And when Cary Grant died my brother and I rented a gazillion of his movies and watched 'em through a lost weekend (Ray Milland is good, too).

OMG Parts, you just made me remember, I had a 70's something Chevy Vega. It was orange, but when I bought it was purple and when I nicked it orange paint was underneath. Anyway, my Vega wouldn't run either when it was rainy or very humid. People laughed when I told them this. So I always carried a rag to wipe out the distributor cap and thingy. (not car knowledgeable.) And I'd spray out the carburator with some stuff. I hated that car too. But the purple was pretty laugh.gif

I had an orange Datsun 510, the first car I bought when I got out of the military. I used the money I had saved while in the service and bought the car outright. It was a great car initially except it didn't come with a radio. I had bought in August of 1971 and it was one of the last cars on the lot - no wonder - orange w/no radio. The problem with the car was that I couldn't get service on it - in 1971 mechanics here in America didn't know much about Japanese cars. The following year I met my wife and took her on our first date. As luck would have it the car went dead - one of the wires to the distributor cap kept slipping off.

The following spring I got rid of the 510 and traded it in for a Mercury Capri V-6. The Capri was the German version of the Ford Mustang. Being used to the Datsun which had gotten pretty anemic by the time I traded it in, I proceeded to burn rubber out of the dealership parking lot. I kept the Capri for 7 years until I traded it in for a 1980 VW Jetta.
