I mean imagine the drama of both Dave, and Stephen, being fired because they were "drunk"...And Tiffany suddenly having to use different sous chefs...She might have won...

Madeline Kahn died in 1999 of ovarian cancer. She had been diagnosed while working of The Cosby Show and worked until she passed away in December of 1999.

Me Brooks said she was one of the funniest people he had ever worked with. She was so good, in fact. that she triumphed, even, in bad films like Bogdanovich's "At Long Last Love". When I feel blue all I have to do is put on "Blazing Saddles", "Young Frankenstein", "History of the World Part I" or, especially, "Paper Moon", and I feel better.

She was a treasure.

The actress in In and Out who played Kevin Kline's jilted bride reminded me of her. What was her name again? It's a real mental block for me.

I unpacked my last box yesterday and have a LOT of catching up to do!

"The Dark Side" by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band.

Did I LOVE that movie! Do you remember when HBO owned about four movies and played each of them over and over? I watched Eddie and the Cruisers about 20 times one rainy week and listened to the music for years.

Time to rent it again, but the cassette tape is long gone.

Would they be fired before or after Dave Made the dessert? lol.

Try imagining if Shrek treated people with respect during the season and Stephen & Dave actually wanted her to win? She'd have an even better chance of winning.

And come on, we all have seen the show. Stephen and Dave were hardly "smashed". Smashed is the Hoff eating fast food off the floor while slurring his words and being taped by his kids. I bet Stephen and Dave were hungover, not exactly a unknown condition for kitchen staff.

2. I use the express lane since it's so little. They don't have self check out lanes in Publix - but I'd use them if they did!

Thank you, LiB! smile.gif

For those who have already responded I truly appreciate it. If I get an "A" I will share it with the board. Drinks all around!

1) How many times per month do you shop for groceries?
I go to a grocers once a week and the butchers twice, and twice for vegetables and fruit usually at a Greek market and the bakery next to it sometimes. I go other places in season or for individual or special occasion items like coffee, chocolate, ice cream, bagels, deli cole slaw, or spices. When I'm lazy, I get things delivered. So, strictly for grocery, say 5x a month.

2) At checkout... do you prefer the conventional lanes, express lanes, or the self check out lanes?
Always conventional counters. I don't do big grocery stores where I can't see the windows or doors from the back.

My other alternative was to do this in a mall and I hate being accosted by them when I shop. Please, forgive the intrusion but thanks so much for the help! smile.gif

If folks are interested I'll be more than happy to share.
From the preliminary data it's becoming apparent that self checkout lanes are not a big hit. I find that interesting in this day and age where slow means something taking 2 seconds versus 1. It amazes me when I shop to see the self check out lanes empty and 6-8 people standing in line for the conventional. Is it fear of something new? Is it tradition? Or is it the fear of maybe causing folks to lose their jobs to machines... which is the reason I use the manned toll booth as opposed to EZPass or chuck the change lanes. I'm actually enjoying this assignment. Thanks, everybody, for not threatening to mace me laugh.gif

Good one but my Fav one hit wonder is " I'm on a Mexican Radio"

While "Mexican Radio" was Wall of Voodoo's only hit they were an extraordinary band. With Stan Ridgeway as the writer and singer they did many lovely, intersting things. This is another song fro the albume that that song came from. It's called "Lost Weekend". His lyrics were very reminiscent of Raymond Chandler. That's a good thing.

driving out of Vegas in their automobile
she was in the backseat while he was at the wheel
with the windows wide open
all the money from the store they'd gambled away
he said, "...the best laid plans often go astray."
she took the page of her book and turned it down
she lit a cigarette...she didn't make a sound
"and i know if we'd had just one more chance," he said
"i know--we'd finally hit the big one at last," she said

--instead of another lost weekend / lost weekend
another lost weekend / lost weekend

"pull over soon," she said, "it's no big deal,
you can take any exit that you happen to feel is the right one."
the right one
as she slowly blew her smoke out of the rear wind vent
she thought back on all the letters she'd sent
for a contest to be on a quiz game show
"maybe i shoulda stayed in school," he said
"yeah, i know--start your own business cleaning swimming pools," she said--

instead of another lost weekend/ lost weekend/
Another lost weekend/ lost weekend

she leaned forward over the front seat and twiddled with the radio dial
she looked out the window, saw a sign and both of them began to smile
"there's a place we could stay at...it's up another mile

I've used self-checkout lanes and sometimes still do . . .
all depends on some variables.

1. No waiting line and I've got just a few items - yeah, why not!

2. Long line waiting - nope! Some damm fool is going to spazz out the system and the employee/attendant is going to have to bail them out.

3. My cart overfloweth -- let someone else cope with ringing it up and packaging it.

4. I've got a lot of unpackaged produce that has to be looked up in a plastic-paged catalog, the proper code punched into the keypad and the items weighed.

5. First time visit to a new store. Do I have the time to cope with an unfamiliar software program?

6. Let's face it, the cashiers are professionals and often can ring up four customers in the same time it takes one amateur at the self checkout to fininsh the same task.

7. Given all my options, what is the quickest way for me to get back into my car?

DECISIONS . . . DECISIONS . . . DECISIONS

~*~

SOME CONJECTURE OF OTHERS' REASONS . . .

1. I hate change!

2. I'm the one who's paying. Let the store earn their GD money.

3. What if I make a fool of myself with all those people waiting in back of me, shifting their feet and muttering.

4. That cashier or packer in aisle 3 is cute.

If I have a couple of items, and I'm in a hurry, I'll use self check out. I am aware that these things are costing people their jobs, though. I've been in stores after 9 p.m. and the only lanes open were self check out. I still belong to the union, and if that's the case, and I can do it, I go elsewhere, after telling the manager that's the reason why. It's just a wrong practice.

LOL! Very good! I've "been there, done that" with all of them except the cute clerk/bagger. I know beauty is subjective but I think around here (at least) beauty is reserved for the strawberries.
One final reason that causes me to avoid certain self check out lanes... Chatty computer voices and/or overly loud. I once tried putting my hand over the screen to make it shut up. It doesn't work. It only causes the system to spazz which brings in the attendant and causes the other patrons to start shuffling feet and muttering things unpleasant... Should have put my hand over the speaker... might have been marginally more effective...

Jen, you just hit on my reason for hating the self-checkout. Especially when there are four or five registers, all spouting product and price info at the same time. I can't imagine being visually impaired and trying to decipher which voice was coming form "my" register. Plus, the cacophony gives me a powerful headache!

Yesterday I found about ten unpacking a box from my last move two years ago:

Music from Big Pink - my favorite album of all time. I've bought it about five or six times, in record, cassette and CD form.

Robbie Robertson- the first solo album.

The Best of the Gipsy Kings

Across the Borderline - Willie Nelson

Pixies - Surfer Rosa. Must be my son's - I never saw it before.

Paul Simon - Graceland

Bruce (as we call him in NJ) - Live 75-85.

Sinatra - Best of the Capitol Years - 2 copies.

Go figure.

I never use the express lanes when I have produce because I can't cope with finding codes and weighing it. If I don't have anything like that I'll use self-service lanes, which are as rare as hen's teeth in NJ but more common in FL.

That may have been the only scene in the film where Kline didn't annoy me.

He's a wonderful dancer. I remember his dancing in "The Pirates of Penzance", and in a marvelous supporting role opposite Madelin Kahn in "On the 20th Century". He can really cut it loose.

I've had "Mexican Radio" stuck in my head since yesterday. Which is ever so much nicer than when Colio tortures me with "Mr. Roboto". He does it on purpose. The little sh*t

Go figure.

I have over two hundred cassettes going back to the 70's. I refuse to dump any of them and hate when one finally bites the dust in the machine. I also still have an LP collection that I play, plus over one hundred and fifty CDs. There is no way I can ever play them all, but just can't part with them. I like country western, jazz, smooth jazz, show tunes, pop, rock, rhtyhm and blues, and big band. Love the girl jazz singers from the 50's and 60's....June Christie blows me away as does Rosemary Clooney...Diana Krall is in the CD player at work a lot. The CD I purchased that surprised me was Sophie Von Etter and Elvis Costello. Love, love, love that.

I've been buying LP's since around 1962 and saved them all. My husband's been buying as long, and saved a few. We gave them all to my brother about ten years ago, who'd been buying since around 1970. My brother died about a year ago, and we then gave all the LP's - close to 1000 - to my son, who at 27 has a record collection to rival anyone's at this point - and three copies of some best sellers from three decades ago. He said that he played a different LP every day for close to a year and still hasn't gotten through them. He's discovered that he likes almost all of them except my brother's 70's favorites - Yes and Jethro Tull - who I can take or leave.

Remember the only thing about her meal that the judges raved about was Dave's dessert that he did completely on his own without help from her, and she took credit for it. She didn't deserve to win...Dave should have bee there

1) How many times per month do you shop for groceries?

2) At checkout... do you prefer the conventional lanes, express lanes, or the self check out lanes?

1) at least 3. Probably more. I'm always running out of something, usually meat.

2) For your survey's purposes I'll say conventional lanes.

Unless I'm doing one of those pre-blizzard runs, I really like the self check out lanes except for one thing...

The friggin ERRORS. If your lane has a problem the whole thing seizes up and you have to wait for a manager to come and fix it. That is supermarket purgatory. Avoid it at all costs.

WAJ thank you very much, my dear.
You are, officially, the last person to take the survey. I must now go home and compile the data.
Thank you very much for everyone's help. If anyone is interested... I'll have the report done tomorrow.
Love, hugs, and kisses to all!

I know I've said it before and please excuse my teen-age style gushing... I just really appreciate everyone's help. My first stats project was painful because it also involved doing a survey. I got an "A" on that one but at the risk of personal injury whilst conducting my survey. You guys/gals have been most helpful to an oddball request. Kisses for everyone! wub.gif

Hey Partsgirl,I need to change my answer to how often we go to the store. I hadnt thought about the quick run ins for milk or whatever. Could you please my 2 to a 4 please?

Hello, I'm Stuart Smalley!

Well, I'm still receiving some negative reaction from my show on Pee Wee Herman, titled, "There But For The Grace Of God Go I", and, I have to admit, it's not my best show.. but that's o-kay. I have to give myself permission to do a bad show every now and then. -
