I agree with Civil Union protections for all couples in the United States. I have been in the position of not having permission to see my partner after he was in a severe auto accident! I also see that every gay & lesbian couple I know pays higher taxes than their married heterosexual counterparts.
Although I agree with you on the fact that I am ashamed at how some of my compatriots act and behave in public during "Gay Pride" events, I also understand that the need for such spectacles will be greatly reduced once gays and lesbians can enjoy the same freedoms as the rest of our society.
I wish all of the Pride participants could see this as a political march and act accordingly.
I have no problem with people dressing up and acting wild once they are off the public streets and in a separate atmosphere. But IMO no one should be exposed to near nudity and extreme acts of sexuality in public...
Of course I see this almost everyday with heterosexual couples in public... (but I digress).
The second point is you cannot take the sex out of homosexuality.... our sexual identities are what makes us targets of discrimination to begin with. But again, turn on your TV and see how often and how extreme sex is portrayed in our culture. I'm not saying it's right.... but it is a fact!
Now imagine that every time you see heterosexuality represented in the media that it does not represent you or your beliefs.... it's pretty overwhelming!
Homosexual families exist! It's a fact... why would you want to hide that fact from children?
What is wrong with teaching kids that not all families are made up of two opposite sex partners of the same race and same religion and their homogeneous cookie cutter children are the only families that exist???
If you want to discuss your families personal religious or political beliefs with your children this is exactly the time to do it.
They will be exposed to it not matter what- pretending we do not exist will not keep your children safe from learning about us.
Why the need to pretend that being gay or knowing someone who is gay is an "adults only" issue?
I love those two words "Preferential Treatment".
I am looking for Laws that will protect me and my family from being ostracized, made to feel like a criminal, forced to endure discrimination on the job and in every aspect of my life- or beaten or even murdered because of my sexual identity.
How does wanting those things mean I want preferential treatment?
Do you enjoy these rights? Can your boss fire you for being heterosexual? Have you ever had objects thrown at you from moving cars? Have you ever been beaten or discriminated against because of who you are? And then told that you got what you deserved?!?!?!
Have you ever been told that you should be ashamed of something that you felt is an inherent part of your being?
Have you ever attempted suicide because your culture and all of society tells you that you that are sick and don't deserve to live?
I think if we could just try to see the world from someone else's perspective once in awhile the world would be a much different place.
It is very easy to be judgmental when you are sitting on the side of the majority.
You silly misguided homosexual!
Don't ya know that these Christians around here think you are a sinner? And they may toss around that old saw about "Hate the sin , but Love the sinner"- but in actuality- thay hate you!
You see most of these Christian teachings fall into a very narrow spectrum of thought.
Some think you choose to be gay. And that every single time you act on that choice- you are sinning.
That is why children must not be taught that
Gay=OK - because if gay is OK then children will also
choose to be gay! LOL
I never understood this train of thought myself- I didn't choose to be straight-I happen to be attracted to men. I never thought- hmmm, who should I be attracted to today?
But apparently these right-wing fundementalist christians -
can choose to be gay or to be straight- and they choose straight.
Except for the ones smoking crack and getting male massages or the toe-tapping senators! Those ones must be learning some very bad things from our society. Stop it you silly gays- you are converting the straights again!
Then there are the ones who think it is not a choice but that you
can - and
should-
repress it! Don't act on it- deny those shameful feelings of lust! Live a life of celibacy.
Of course most of these cows can't control their lust for a bacon double cheeseburger LOL! gluttony is a sin people- look around at the tubbys in the church pews- you are surrounded by sinners!
Or heaven forbid if you
do act on it-
don't talk about it! Keep it quiet.
Don't shove it down our throats/rub our faces in it!
Don't you know only heteros get to talk about their spouses and their private lives in public. Don't you know only hets get the right to live openly and freely.
Because once you tell em you are gay they will picture you having sex! Now they don't necessarily picture their parents or their kids getting it on --but this of course only applies to the hetero ones- if a kid or parent comes out --once more they picture you doing the nasty LOL! when thay hear gay -they picture sex- naughty christians!
So to summarize- don't be gay- choose to be straight!
If you must be gay- don't act on it.
If you do act on it- don't talk about it!
Every gay person is going to hell!
Just ask the Jesus freaks who think Heath Ledger is burning in Hell! For playing a gay role in a movie! Nope-- not the actors who play murderers or adulterers but the ones who play gays! LOL!
By the Way-- Murder and Adultery made it to the big 10- not homosexuality- by the way!
So until this sad sick generation -who choose to cherry pick passages of the Bible and persecute others with them- dies-- you will never have a life of freedom here in america!
Sorry- just be straight ok?
