I agree with Civil Union protections for all couples in the United States. I have been in the position of not having permission to see my partner after he was in a severe auto accident! I also see that every gay & lesbian couple I know pays higher taxes than their married heterosexual counterparts.



Although I agree with you on the fact that I am ashamed at how some of my compatriots act and behave in public during "Gay Pride" events, I also understand that the need for such spectacles will be greatly reduced once gays and lesbians can enjoy the same freedoms as the rest of our society.

I wish all of the Pride participants could see this as a political march and act accordingly.

I have no problem with people dressing up and acting wild once they are off the public streets and in a separate atmosphere. But IMO no one should be exposed to near nudity and extreme acts of sexuality in public...
Of course I see this almost everyday with heterosexual couples in public... (but I digress).

The second point is you cannot take the sex out of homosexuality.... our sexual identities are what makes us targets of discrimination to begin with. But again, turn on your TV and see how often and how extreme sex is portrayed in our culture. I'm not saying it's right.... but it is a fact!
Now imagine that every time you see heterosexuality represented in the media that it does not represent you or your beliefs.... it's pretty overwhelming!



Homosexual families exist! It's a fact... why would you want to hide that fact from children?
What is wrong with teaching kids that not all families are made up of two opposite sex partners of the same race and same religion and their homogeneous cookie cutter children are the only families that exist???
If you want to discuss your families personal religious or political beliefs with your children this is exactly the time to do it.
They will be exposed to it not matter what- pretending we do not exist will not keep your children safe from learning about us.

I love those two words "Preferential Treatment".
I am looking for Laws that will protect me and my family from being ostracized, made to feel like a criminal, forced to endure discrimination on the job and in every aspect of my life- or beaten or even murdered because of my sexual identity.

How does wanting those things mean I want preferential treatment?

Do you enjoy these rights? Can your boss fire you for being heterosexual? Have you ever had objects thrown at you from moving cars? Have you ever been beaten or discriminated against because of who you are? And then told that you got what you deserved?!?!?!

Have you ever been told that you should be ashamed of something that you felt is an inherent part of your being?

Have you ever attempted suicide because your culture and all of society tells you that you that are sick and don't deserve to live?

I think if we could just try to see the world from someone else's perspective once in awhile the world would be a much different place.

Thought I'd stop by to say hi. You know I took the twinlets bowling today. I haven't been in about 20 years. OMG, The 3rd ball I threw took me about a third of the way down the lane and pop! landed on my butt and something popped in my leg and now I've got a swollen lump in it. But like a trooper that I am, I stayed and bowled 3 more games. I AM PAYING FOR IT NOW! Took some Advil PM and hopefully the pain will be gone soon so I can go to sleep.

A 290 something you say? Are you saying that you rolled eleven strikes in a row? You don't need any help from me if you can score that high. The highest I ever bowled was 2 years ago when I rolled a 754 three-game series which included a 286 game.

Im sure it was but so many do believe the things Peg said and I wanted to be sure and point out not all christians think that way.

I have helped my sisters raise all of their children (I came out to my family at 16 after my father died)...

I have over 15 nieces and nephews and all of them knew of my sexual identity and were raised to see it as normal.
Most of my sister's described it this way "Some little boys grow up and fall in love with girls & some little boys grow up and fall in love with boys" (or something of that nature).
Well each and everyone of them are heterosexual and are open minded to all races, religions & creeds. (We also have many multi-ethnic and multi-religious family members).

When my nephew Christopher (I think he was in the 3rd grade) came home from school crying one day because the boys were making fun of gay people and he was ashamed because he didn't defend me. I sat him down and this is what I said "I love you and I love that you wanted to defend me. But please don't. I can take care of myself. Many people dislike gay people for many different reasons, mostly their religious beliefs. And they have the right to their beliefs, it is not our responsibility to try to change their minds.
Many people in this world hate others because of the color of their skin or because they practice a different religion too. Again that is their right. But you also have the right not to associate with those people and to know that what our family teaches and our beliefs are just as much our right."



So Brillke, all I can do is try to tell my story and share my experience with others... it is up to each individual to decide if hearing that voice and seeing through another's eyes is of any value.

And one last thing... I totally understand that not all Christians hate gays, some of my best friends are Christians LOL (My sisters and their husbands all have different religious beliefs and none of those beliefs has stopped them from loving me.)

But there are still a huge number of Right-Wing Christian Fundamentalist who are twisting the Bible to persecute gays. And other religions persecute gays too. Gays are still hanged and shot in the Middle East. We are still imprisoned in several countries around the world.

And here in America, Jerry Fallwell and Pat Robertson have blamed gays for the 9/11 attacks and Hurricane Katrina.
And preaching before his congregation in his church Jimmy Swaggart said (about Gay Marriage)
"And I'm gonna be blunt and plain, if one ever looks at me like that I'm gonna kill him and tell God he died."
And these men have millions of listeners and viewers.

Its cause of those type of men and their followers that I am no fan of organized religion. I have faith but I dont need a guy wearing a suit that cost more then I make in a month telling me whats right or wrong.

Brooke I agree with most you said here. I have a really hard time weeding through PegLam's sarcasm and can't differenciate what point she's trying to get through. So here's my 2 cents and I'm just throwing it out there to see what others think. Even tho we are more progressive in our thinking these days than when I was growing up. Boys are not allowed to be sensitive. They are taught to tuff it out, don't cry, shake hands instead of hugging etc. Hope you're getting my point. All John Waynes in the making. A man's man. I think we start teaching it's O.K. to be sensitive in the very young, then maybe we won't be seeing such aggression towards the gay community. I mean its still hard for men/boys to say I love you to one another. As for gays and children. I agree let kids be kids first.
