Hey Shy for some reason your number wasn't on my cell phone so I couldn't call you!
I called Psh a few 10 times by accident as
I thought it was you.lol
I did the same to Siz...I was confused!
Names don't show up on this phone for some reason.
Psh called right after the police chase and YES I was almost killed in it.
Helicopters and everything.
Whoa!!!!
That was after we got lost in the MOST horrid hood ...The road spilt and we were on the 10 !
OHMFG.....It was HORRID!!!
I was screaming on the walkie talkie
Get me out of here to Justin We are gonna' get shot.lol

The police chase happened as soon as we got back on 95 in Jax..I godda look it up as AI couldn't find it that night....It was scary as hell.... All these cop cars screeching down the road and helicopters hovering.
I was a wreck and a big ass truck almost hit me
as I pulled over....I mean a few feet and I woulda been dead for sure he was going that fast.
I mean we just got back on 95 after the hood and here they came.
lol But we saw cop cars at the entrance and we thought drug bust.
Whoa again!

Anywhooo John W this is for you as it's
some great history... I was on Buckburg mountain today....my nieces b'f lives up
there...Washington made plans or sumpthin' there for this battlefield fight. I used to
take my son there for Halloween
events and my g/f Paige lived right across from the battlefield...Today it just seemed more important than usual.
Maybe being away from it all for so long as
after awhile you get Washingtoned out.
But today it really made me think of what that would have been like for him and
them..Wow for real.

Anywhoo a good read and a really pretty place.
I don't care if anyone knows where I live.
We got dogs and my brother. tongue.gif
My brother will kick your ass.lol

He slept here too!

lol We fine... that happened the first night at around 8:30ish...It was a great way to start the trip wacko.gif

The BEST thing that happened was we met this older gentleman at a fried chix place in SC...
Lawd they can cook that chix right up!
He was like a character out of a Tennesee Williams play.. He spoke just like it.
I mean deep south and I love those accents so much!!

He was in WW2 and he has just lost his 60 year old daughter he and his wife adopted us for an hour.... It was magical.
He said..I like you two.. I would like to be around folks like you.... awwwww
His wife was giving him dirty looks.lol
I told him to go online and find his WW2 buddies and he was so
excited he didn't even know he could.
Anywhoooo this is the band I fell in love with from one song that I can't find ...Something about a reckless heart.... but no go....BUT wow....The first song and the last.
Swooon good night I'm going to stumble
to bed now tongue.gif

*The Proclivities*
An indie NC band.
A word my southern gentleman friend would probably say...He tawked just like that.lol

KK,

I am not the historian that you make me out to be. Your link to the battle of stoney point made for a good read. Washington was a great general and driving the Brits back to NY City was a great victory - great for morale too. Forlorn hope - I knew what that was from reading Bernard Cornwell's historical novels which included the Napoleonic Wars between France and England. Leading a forlorn hope was a good way for a junior officer to get a promotion if he lived, which was seldom.

The view of the Hudson Valley was typical of many spots(overlooks) along the lower Hudson. I had a similar view last summer when I foolishly did a day hike with two friends in the Catskill Mts when I was nursing a broken wrist. It involved climbing rock faces which my friend hadn't counted on.

The wife and I must have passed through your neighborhood when she missed the turnoff to the NY State Thruway and we ended up traveling north on route 9W. This was maybe three years ago.

I'm sure Washington did "sleep around" but then so did the continental army. He slept in the nearest available farmhouse and his men slept out in the open.

The Catskills aren't very majestic. My first hike into the mountains (1971) started with the Catskills and has ended with the Catskills. In between, a period of 20 years or so, it was the high peaks area in the Adirondacks up in the Keene valley - Mt Marcy etc. Many of those mountains rise above the tree line.

9W - another story? Geez, it seems everytime you get behind the wheel, it is some kind of adventure.

What are they growing on that weird farm?

Almost hit a deer? I've had a few close calls with deer leaping across the front of my car. My son, not of lucky. He hit a deer only 4 years ago - Massachusetts Turnpike. There was an old joke among the members of my son's Boy Scout committee. One of the committee members was always passing out venison to us. Jokingly we'd say that he was giving us 'roadkill'.

Those windmills are enormous. There would have to be lights installed on them so them lowflying aircraft don't hit them at night.

The windmills are huge. There are lights much like landing strips for airports. We have an air force base and an airport here in Abilene Texas and there has not been a problem with planes hitting them. The windmill industry gave us some great jobs with actual good pay and benefits (almost unheard of here) and the energy that they produce will help us all.

lol No story on 9w...Just had to go shopping.

care takers and my friend and I thought why not.
It was creepy when we got there and had animals and they looked old and I dunno...Not very well kept.....It wasn't like an agro farm really.

Lake George is one of New York's treasures - most of the land around the lake is privately owned. I was up there two years ago with my best friend - we canoed part of it - about 15 miles overall.

Sob

Go with God kind sir!

I stand accused of loving you too much
I should hope it's not a crime
Cause I'm guilty I hope I never have to testify
If I do everyone's gonna' cry
That boy is guilty of loving you
Though you belong to another
And I may not stand a ghost of a chance
I'll tell the world that I love you
I'm a victim of circumstance
That's been proven guilty oh yes I have
But you know one touch of your hand
And I find myself on the witness stand
Now I walk over the land
Baby I'm guilty of loving you what can I do.

William Butler

Hot Buttered Soul - I wore this album out - The opening song "Walk On By" I played over and over for one of my co-workers when we were stationed in Vietnam. The co-worker was black. We were both clerks in the Supply Company.

Hayes died at 65 - when I first heard him I thought he was older. It had to be his bald head and deep voice that made me think that.

That was a neat car that he drove in "Escape from New York".

2008 August 11
Black Hole Candidate Cygnus X-1
Credit:
ESA, Hubble

Explanation: Is that a black hole? Quite possibly. The Cygnus X-1 binary star system contains one of the best candidates for a black hole. The system was discovered because it is one of the brightest X-ray sources on the sky, shining so bright it was detected by the earliest rockets carrying cameras capable of seeing the previously unknown X-ray sky. The star's very name indicates that it is the single brightest X-ray source in the constellation of the Swan Cygnus. Data indicate that a compact object there contains about nine times the mass of the Sun and changes its brightness continually on several time scales, at least down to milliseconds. Such behavior is expected for a black hole, and difficult to explain with other models. Pictured above is an artistic impression of the Cygnus X-1 system. On the left is the bright blue supergiant star designated HDE 226868, which is estimated as having about 30 times the mass of our Sun. Cygnus X-1 is depicted on the right, connected to its supergiant companion by a stream of gas, and surrounded by an impressive accretion disk. The bright star in the Cygnus X-1 system is visible with a small telescope. Strangely, the Cygnus X-1 black hole candidate appears to have formed without a bright supernova explosion.

Gotta comment on your Lovecraft quote....the kidlet and I sat up the other night and watched the latest version of "The Haunting" and as soon as they showed the derelict mansion....kidlet and I went into "Mystery Science Theatre" mode, such as, if one is confronted with spooky New England Mansion, no neighbors, freaky staff, etc. etc. etc. run do not walk and get out ASAP!

As much as we actually enjoyed the movie (and we did!) it was fun watching my 15 year old come up with MST worthy comments!

I got started on Lovecraft when I got hold of a Lovecraft collection of short stories that my sister had left at my mother's house. This was 30 years ago.
Since then I have read nearly all of his works plus those of his contemporaries.

Some of his longer works I still read over and over: The Mountains of Madness and The Strange Case of Charles Dexter Ward.

Mystery Food Contest. Wanker that I am and my friend, chickened out at the last minute.
People were allowed to bring 3 "condiments".
Judges gave them 1 pat butter, 1 pkg salt, 1 pkg pepper, a knife & water.
Mystery ingredients were a peach, a cucumber, an egg, veg oil, can of chicken & a box of cornbread mix. 5 minutes left of the competition they were given raisins.
I AM SO GLAD I DID NOT ENTER. I still had a brain cramp as to what I would have done after they announced the winner.

Sounds like the day before payday dinner debate at the Jazzie house!

How about peach cornbread with a chicken and cucumber salad? Depending of course on what my 3 condiments ended up being? Knowing me, I'd probably bring some garlic and onions and maybe some chili powder, paprika, or curry powder.

I kind of like those types of challenges!

The hubby is much more into Lovecraft than I. Something I read of his when I was in middle school scared me silly, and I've never been able to read much Lovecraft since. But I've friends (my ComicCon group) who are so into it, that they have the "Cthulu for President" T-shirts! Maybe it's time to go get a dose of Lovecraft!

Had we actually competed, I was going to bring green salsa, teriyaki or soy sauce and honey. When the competition began I thought those choices would have screwed any chance. After the fact........ thought of making a sandwich of sorts with the cornbread as a base and then making a salad with the peaches and raisins. There's always next year.
Went I went around to the table before hand there were several with hershey's syrup. At the time I thought it was rather odd. Obviously, these people competed last year. Almost everyone had honey. The use of "condiment" was very loose.
Everything is better with garlic and onions of course.
Every once in a while you get one of those emails that asks you about your favorite things. One question is always your favorite smell. People usually say roses or such but I always say the smell of grilled peppers and onions (or Mike at work-who always smells great).

Did it have to be just one dish? Or make-up whatever you can? How much time did they have? I would love to be in that contest.

Peg

30 minutes. Make as many dishes as you wanted but you had to use everything.

An excerpt from the Necronomicon of the mad Arab Abdul Alhazred -

"That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange eons even death may die"

There are some readers of Lovecraft that are really into the Cthulhu mythos and actually believe that the Necronomican exists and have asked for it in used book stores.

Ah....in that case there would not be enough time for cornbread, but you could do a johnnycake type of pancake with the cornbread mix and peaches, then heat up the peach juice to thicken it for a sauce (which would work with the last minute raisins) and the rest would still make a decent cucumber and chicken salad of sorts. Darned, I'd like to try a contest like that sometime. I'll have to check out the Del Mar Fair competitions next summer!

I know, it really is odd when the line between fiction and reality blurs. I ran across a book a couple of years ago....I wanted to read the basis for Stephen King's "Rose Red" and couldn't find anything. I was cruising a used bookstore and found a "diary" of the main ghostly character. Now, I knew it was fictionalized, but what was intriguing is that there was actually a website for the fictional university from the movie. The thing is, you could only get into the "Rose Red" sections, everything else was "under construction!" Talk about an inside joke! (Assuming, of course, you've seen Rose Red....one of those of the "the house must continue to be built" hauntings!)

My hubby has some Lovecraft, but I'll ask you (hubby loves to spook me every now and then LOL!) what might be a good starting place for Lovecraft? I'll read almost anything, why should Lovecraft be different!

The book that got me started on Lovecraft was the Dunwich Horror written in 1928. The book was left at my mother's house by my sister. The Dunwich horror was made into a movie in 1970 starring Dean Stockwell as Wilbur Whately. Wilbur was not what he seemed as his father was one of the 'Old Ones'.

If you got to one of the larger bookstores like Barnes and Noble you might be able to find many Lovecraft books. Maybe there is a primer on Lovecraft to get you started.

Miskatonic, Arkham, Dunwich - try as I might I couldn't locate any of these places on a New England map.

I seem to be the only one who has never heard of Lovecraft. I like scarey books....along the lines of Cujo, The Exorcist, or The Amityville Horror, are his works along those lines?

Tater,

To find out about Lovecraft, I suggest you google him. Lovecraft's works are very different than Cujo, the Exorcist or the Amityville horror. When reading Lovecraft you feel that you are in an earlier time.

Oh, it's even worse than we thought. Rocky remake leaves O'Brien cold.

Not only that, rumort has it they're considering casting Marilyn Manson as Frankie. unsure.gif

And in my opinion, no one will be as funny and as sexy as Tim Curry was as Frankie. Nope. Maybe we should picket the new show....in costume of course!

I was usually our cast's "Magenta" too! I occasionally played "Columbia," and once and only once did I attempt the "Janet" bit, but Magenta was always the most fun for me. smile.gif

I think the only person who could do justice to the role of "Frankie" would be Eddie Izzard, but even if that came to be, I don't know if I'll take in this new version or not. Without Richard O'Brien's blessing, I'm just not into it in the least.

Oh, yeah ... it's already even got its own iMDB listing. No details yet, of course, just the title and a 2010 projected release date.

You got that right... that is the attraction of Iron Chef..... how many creative things can one do in a given time with a mystery ingredient. I too would love to try a compitition like that.

Lia .... isn't it amazing how low Hollywood will go? I mean, the whole re-make thing is really getting out of hand....plots and ideas can't be all used up. Next thing you know they will be doing a re-make of Citizen Kane as a vehicle for Nicolas Cage or Gone withthe Wind with Paris Hilton.....

OK before I call my bank as I am holding my breath and putting it off...I do NOT want to beg or get mad.
BUT does anyone know why peeps are getting looked at like 2,000 times a day.lol
I mean I never even noticed that profile look thing till a few months ago.... I just don't
even look at profiles much..I just never even notice where peeps are from and as nosy as
I am ya' think I would!.
It's kinda scary maybe??? 2,000 in
one day?????
And not just me either...Whoa! tongue.gif

I didn't even know about the top poster till last month and AI told me that and I am so like NOT happy. I have no life..It says it right there.
In black and blue. rolleyes.gif

Oh GAWD get me a life..Nah I have one now.
BUT I can still post till I get a job.
Sorry!!!!!

OK Shy wants funny stories.
The funniest thing on my trip still has me and my son and AI laughing..I stopped at a Day's Inn the first night and I do NOT like them right over the GA border in SC....but they were close
off the exit and took Duke..We ate at the Waffle House...mmmmmm and had the BEST
waitress.

Just thought I'd throw that in.lol

So AI says I'll call you there to save minutes....Good girl.

So the next night near Richmond we get into a bad storm and we say let's pull off for the night as we were both REALLY tired.

So we go to an Econo Lodge loooong story
why...Looked great from the outside.
It was near that King's Dominian place.
I think it 's a Christian amusement park as they were all at the gas station right
near there praising GAWD and blessing me and buying cheap cigarettes and real LOUD.
Ride the roller coaster for
Jesus I always say..*ahem* biggrin.gif

I got a delish tuna sub there btw.lol

BUT the Econo Lodge was way worse than the DI..The only one that would take Duke nearby though at an affordable price.BUT what the
hell do I care.. I was spending money I didn't even have apparently tongue.gif

Sooo my son is reading me the # to tell AI so she can call me a back and he
goes 1...800..I say 1..800.....He goes 554
or whatever......I say 554 and then he says blow you know what.
I say to AI 545.....blow you know what and never skipped a beat.
We laughed for a LONG time.
I didn't even realize it I was so tired...We're
still laughing as my son just did something similiar to me just now and I won' t say what is is.lol.

YEAH he's my kid alright...I'm SO proud of
him! tongue.gif

OK so will 2,000 more peeps look at me now???? laugh.gif
I thought I was a nosy git!!
How strange....huh??I mean I had 40,000
sumpthin' when I left. ohmy.gif

I'm gonna' make baked ziti tonight..mmm
I'm done.lol

Hey, KK,

My son and I plan to visit Prince Edwards Island before we hit Nova Scotia. That's all I know for now.

The wife tells me to get a life too because of the time I spend on the PC. But then she's just as bad except it's watching sports and Law and Order marathons.

HEY GUYS....guess who is on Food Network 's Ice Cream Challenge?

Top Chef Season Two's Marisa Churchill. She just took first place in round one with a chocolate sundae that look mahhhhvelous! And her icecream cake sounds good too. Funny, I'm more impressed with her here than I ever was when she was on TC.

Well, back to the ice cream challenge
