Thank you so much, daverocks. My intention was not at all to rip him into anything. Should you desire to go back to my original post, you might see that I was not ripping in any way, shape or form.

Evidently, I'm not in the inner circle of those who know the info. But here's some new info . . . every season will bring new folks who don't know the background and don't know the history of every poster on the board.

So, cut a break. And quit acting like you're in the upper echelon of folks who know what's what with whom.

Helen, I'm sorry if I mistakenly came off that way in my post. I probably didn't previewit. What I *thought* I said was,

"At least you were nice about it INSTEAD of ripping into him"

b/c in the past many people have. I just thought the whole thing was funny. I mean obviously, I don't expect new people to know everything. It's just that it always gets me laughing a tad b/c it's right there on his profile, CAPS HANDI. I remember when I first got on this board and I thought, why does this person do this. I looked over to his profile, saw CAPS HANDI and thought, hmm, he must have a good reason, and that was it. But I wasn't trying to call you out on it, honestly. It was actually very nice the way you worded it in comparrison to how some people have in the past.

damn, I've only been back a couple of days and I'm already getting myself in trouble! I've found I dont' exactly talk like other people and re-reading my post I can see where you may have gotten the idea that I meant you ripped into him. I didn't. I just meant, wait, someone WILL and it won't be pretty. but I am going to try to be optimistic and hope no one will this season.

Yes, thank you, daverocks. I, in fact, am able to read that parlance, and I do get it how many posts have occurred.

My understanding is that the full explanation occurred about mid-last season. I was not on the boards at that time. I came in at a later time during that season.

So, please don't be amazed by my ignorance. I will continue to display it during this season.

Helen... I do not believe in any way shape or form you are an ignorant person... maybe uninformed but not"ignorant".

Today, in the Washington Post magazine, there was an article on sound levels in area restaurants and how people felt about them.

I'm kind of torn, myself, When there is cause for celebration amongst a crowd of people I don't really care all that much. Recently, though, Drew and I were having an "adults only" kind of romantic dinner out, and a party of noisy twentysomething were seated near us. This was at The Bombay Club, which is normally rather quiet, but it became apparent that the design wasn't made for their noisier clients.

The acoustics of the place were awful, and, with the addition of a large group of "wet" clients, we couldn't hear each other, so we ended up leaving before we had finished our meal. The waiter asked us why, and when we told them, they offered to comp our meal, as we were regulars when it was just the two of us, but the damge was done. Drew has taken the BC off our list of desirable eateries.

My question is how do you all feel about noisy restaurants? Does it make you feel that you're at a "happening" joint, or is it just a turn off? I know that if we're in the mood we will dine with the partygoers at, say, Cafe Milano, or, one of the other trendy joints, but then there are those times when it's just a turn off. Thoughts?

Hi ya S'Bear...It depends...Loud does NOT = "trendy" to me...Being as I always go out alone...m lookin' more at the waiter, or the busboy(just kidding)...I don't care much about the "scene"...I care about the food...But being as I "suffer" from Peter Pan, syndrom I like watching young people...All the while knowing I don't qualify...

oh, it's just a quote from Bend It Like Beckham. anytime someone confuses lesbian with lebanese (purposefully or not) it reminds me of that scene. one person calls another person a lesbian and the older grandmother says quite proudly, she's not lebanese, she's punjabi!

Punjabi is a language and also refers to someone from Punjab. Which I said earlier that I thought the family was Pakistani, but I actually believe they are Indian. I *think* (and I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong) there are regions in both pakistan and india called Punjab.

OK, daverocks, thanks for that enlightening explanation. I really appreciate it. But I'm getting that in this reference, it was meant to mean the other . . . am I too insightful or WHAT!!

Uh my comment about the dems was an opinion of what will happen. Your the one who brought the word "fact" into that portion of the argument.

Checked my "facts" or checked my predictions? lol.

Fact: You brought up politics first.

Fact: You tried to paint me as ignorant because my view of what would happen differed from yours. Pretty funny considering how ignorant you were on the facts surrounding Tom and Producers relationship.

Still no mention of basketball from you eh? laugh.gif

There was a blatant example of an BAD uncalled foul in the five minutes that I was able to watch the women's semi-final tonight. And it happened at a very crucial point of the game. If you don't think that there are a fair amount of uncalled fouls in virtually every game, frankly, I think that you deserve to be a part of Tim Donaghy's office pool.

And when a *Republican* weighs in on Democratic politics trying to disprove a statement that is backed up by fact and not wishful thinking, it's rather desperate. You certainly didn't portray it as an "opinion" either, but I've got a solution to that (as you'll see).

BTW, I never said, implied, inferred, pretended, whispered, or bellowed that I didn't mentioned politics first.

Yes, I was wrong about Tom going to the producers (and I didn't spin it as I certainly could have). However, this doesn't make your unfounded statements of fact about collusion any more true, you know. But, from now on, I'll just file all of your charges about unproven situations on TC as "opinion" and roundfile them. How's that?

Well, brillke, I thought just last night we shared Jack. But . . . I'm with you on the OT. I just scroll through it. My comments, however meager, are always about TC, cheftestants and the appropriate melange.

But I'll tell ya, the OT thing is incredibly pervasive and virtually chokes off talk relevant to what this is supposed to be about.

the difficulty with your snapping in and out is . . . there may be some meager, yet terribly insightful comment that you'll miss. This will not be a life-threatening experience for you. Just a thought in terms of making what time you do spend here . . . worth your time.

IC first let me start by stating that I respect your opinion... I have enjoyed your contributions to this board ever since I started participating in the discussions in so many things we all mutually enjoy. For ME the statement you made about Mr. Heston's "personal bigottry" is where I take issue with you. Why was Heston a bigot? Because he supportted groups or causes that you dissagree with? What makes his opinions "biggotry" instead of opposing views. To me , biggotry implies something evil or nasty while to me opposing views are just that ... opposing views that I can debate , consider or dismiss as I so choose. In reality, Mr. Heston's views in most things were to the political right of mine; I do however respect those opinions and the right of the person to hold them. Unfortunately, so many of the pundits out there that disagree with Mr. Hestons opinions resorted to personal attacks on him instead of debating the issues he represented.

Ford, I think I mentioned in another post that I'd seen an interwiew with Heston years ago in which he made statements that struck me as bigoted. Like I also said in that post, unfortunately I can't remember which show it was on, and since I can't substantiate what I heard with specifics, it makes the point pretty moot. The fact does remain that it was a feeling I came away with, though, and it's one that remained with me.

As far as the word "bigotry" goes, I don't necessarily attach any stigma of outright "evil" to it as you said you do. I suppose the definition below is the one that comes closest to defining my use of it:

Bigotry

Big"ot*ry\, n. [Cf. F. bigoterie.]

IC.... Michael Moore has every right to film whatever he wishes if he thinks it will make him a dollar (or not) and if his subject interests him. I agree that most of his topics are worth discussion; my disagreement with him and his style is his habit of using the editing room floor to cut and paste events to support his opinion but that in reality turn those events into works of fiction. If Moore wants to call his work propaganda... fine. Just do not call them documentaries.

Mrs. Lovett's "Really Living It" Meat Pie:

2 Tbsp cooking oil
1 lg. onion, thinly sliced
1 lb. ground (cough) beef
1 lb. ground (ahem) pork
1 cup mashed potatoes
2 tsp. ground allspice
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
Pastry for double crust pie (9 inch)
1 egg, beaten (optional)

In skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Saute onion until tender. Remove from heat and set aside. Brown beef and ... umm ... pork, that was it--together. Drain. Combine onion, meat, potatoes and seasonings. Line pie plate with pastry. Fill with meat mixture. Top with crust. Seal and flute edges. Make slits in top crust. Brush with beaten egg if desired. Bake at 375 for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.

It's the allspice that makes this pie really special--and not in the bad way!

I said the word crack and showed my bum to
my g/f..lol.........I was like 5 or 6????

It wasn't funny for years....It was traumatic.
Catholic school and all that rot.
After years of crying we got it all settled.

They apologized and I forgave. They knew not what they did.

Oy.... Most peeps should be neutered at birth.

We will not discuss the F word 'round you no more!!!!

The good Catholic lady neighbor told them to do that btw and it was only for a few minutes and at night......but still blush.gif

Please don't feel the need to censor yourself on my account. But maybe now you can imagine my reaction to Marcel putting foam on every dish.

Nice parents and neighbor lady---very bizzare form of disipline for a 5 or 6 year old. But I'll bet you don't go around showing your bum to peeps now!!!

Zoi and Antonio dug their own way to the JT "losers" by touting too much the vibrant colors and not explaining the two thinly sliced chops were supposed to symbolize the two women. Padma expressed a wish that they'd presented that when explaining their dish when it was served. Tom said at JT they wouldn't have even been in the "loser" category if they hadn't so exclaimed about the vibrant colors.

Helen, I did think this episode was a bit better than the last 2, real dishes for real diners, cooked under mostly realistic circumstances. Four dishes that seemed very fine, one that was plated drably. Only one poor dish. (Couldn't have been good if 4 judges and 8 guests all put it down as the least favorite.)

But it's regrettable we'll be back to catering an event again this week. I dont recall quite so much catering as the main challenge, so concentrated early on in past seasons...

From a food standpoint ready for the PYKAG: Nikki, Zoi, Ryan, Lisa

From a food standpoint, relatively unknown: Jennifer, Spike, Andrew, Antonia

Helen, I'm not sure Lisa is PYKAG-ready. They've shown us very little of her, but I did see a few things that set her aside from Nikki, Zoi, and Ryan.

One, while Stephanie did "conceptualize" the Block Party dessert, it appeared to be Lisa who actually made it. And made it well.

Two, according to Stephanie, it was Lisa who knew about and whipped out that fabulously obscure Savory Vietnamese Caramel Sauce that they poured over their nearly winning beef dish of Strip Steak & Braised Short Rib w/ Potstickers. Rocco loved her Eggs Benedict and she beat Spike whose dish was also said to be good; no criticisms of her Zoo or Block Party dishes. She doesn't impress in the Quickfires but that may be because she's not as quick and skilled, fast & on the fly.

But she does seem to know some stuff and unlike those other 3, hasn't been on the chopping block even once yet.

I was disappointed by the reaction to Richard's win. I know it's a competition and that the rest of the cheftestants didn't think the flavors of the dish worked, but when he won they should have been more gracious.

The other thing I get tired of is hearing them say "it's not my style, or that's not how I cook". If you are going to compete on this show you had better be ready to cook outside of your comfort zone. I do understand the frustration over a vending machine challenge or the shopping in only one aisle challenge. I think those are kind of fluff/entertainment challenges but they are part of the game. If you come into the competition like Betty did "I do comfort food", then you don't stand a chance.
