Quickfire---walk in the door--Mom what's for dinner and when will it be ready??? Jeeze, can I put my purse down??

I really hope they give them plenty of time with the kids. It's usually such a mad dash that I envision all kinds of disasters.

Right? laugh.gif

Well, they did show a moment with one kid getting cut, so you just know this won't turn out well.

Sorry dude, this won't fly. Bottom line is that we're all VIEWERS, not foodies, not professional chefs, not home cooks. First and foremost we all watch the TV SHOW. No matter how much you wax poetic on the insular aspects of your industry (as if no other industry deals with obstacles and problems delivering service) this is a TV show. If we were discussing the judging aspects of the BBC program about competing for a restaurant, these arguments would be more germane however it's Top Chef. The program that gave us the Vending Machine Challenges, the Convenience Store Challenges, the Making Food only from in a Microwave Challenge. Do you really think they are having all these catering challenges because they think it's the best test of top chef or is it easier to film the large herd of people they cast on the show? Could it also be so they could have many opportunities to pimp the many show sponsors? Sounds like bowing to the production aspects of the TV Show as opposed to the Finding The Best Top Chef aspects?

Ah! Therein lies the reason we occasionally disagree. I gave up the idea that this was about actually determining the best chef in the group long ago. That's why I watch it as if it were titled "Survivior - Bravo Kitchen". And like Survivor, the 'best' usually doesn't make it to the finals.

Emily. Ironically, she was eliminated in the same episode in which she said that.

I think we can also credit her with planting the idea that Sam is hot, since in the same episode, she says that all the pre-teen girls "figured out he looks like Austin Kutcher".

I think that was an example of the editors picking just the right quotes to show, trying to be ironic. They do it often. Like Casey gets along with what's her name - gone. Casey gets along with Tre - gone. Tre saying he can do bread pudding in his sleep - gone. Eric's comments about how great his corn dogs are - gone. Jen and her "doing it for Zoi - gone. Etc., etc. That's another way you can narrow the field of elimination early in the show.

Oh. Interesting way you narrowly construed the proposal by trying to limit it to conflict. But all drama is not conflict. You have to compare all the other times they were on screen for one thing or another. I realize that for the first 5 episodes a lot of Jen's time was because of Zoi, who's gone, but a lot of it was just her. For those same 5 episodes we were asking "Antonia who?".

In addition, you can't tell me that down the road the odds are that Antonia will make better TV than Jen. I sure don't see it.

Besides, you admitted that this elimination was only about the food. The thought disgusted you, but you admitted it.

LOL no I'm not limiting things. Name one way Jen on her own makes for better TV than Antonia. Conflict is just the most obvious thing a producer would look for. All that air time Jen got was to set up the "I'm doing it for Zoi" story arch which they wrapped up pretty quick after the quickfire she won.

Antonia's stiff arming her team on the soup when she had immunity, alone, is iron clad proof that she will make better TV down the stretch.

And please show me where I said the elimination was solely about the food.

Which is why I get so irked when I hear Tom and Padma on promo tours touting the "quality" of judges and chefs they get for the show and how the show's pedigree is so much more refined than their competition. FEH! If's a freakin' TV show. It only happened because The Magic Elves had a hit with Project Runway and they did what all good production teams should do, copy and expand.

How many of you would watch this show if they replaced Tom with someone else?

Before we get too deep into the "eight hour judging" discussion, may I put forth that the actual talking about the food take much less time? What I think they are really talking about is the "setup and filming of Judges Table" takes quite a while. I would bet that the judges get to sit in a place set aside for them while cameras are positioned, mics are set and tested and all the other hullabuloo that goes on with producing. Oh and powdering Tom's head. Making the chefs sit while all this is happening is just a device to produce conflict and drama. You know, reality tv stuff that has nothing to do with the best or worst dish.

Oh and Kani make sure you don't forget the Q&A with production.
LOL
Tom: "Ok what I want to know is, can we keep the two on the team that completely ignored the rules of the challenge?"

Production: "Absolutely, because by refusing to abide by the rules they at least were aware the rules exsisted and that makes it ok. BTW We want the other lebanese chef gone. Their useless without a matching pair."

Tom:"Will do and make sure the glad people send the check to me for making them fishish the meal at the house. Also send the pool guy back to my place. The Michelob people were delivering around back and someone dropped a couple of cases and got glass in the pool."

One of the cheftestants poured hot oil on her hand by accident, causing her to go to the hospital. but came back in time for elimination.
Not me!
I was still in Pain City USA
It took a few shots of painkillers injected in my wrist to keep me from continuing screaming, before they cut all the "fried" skin off.
The next epi should show how is she coping with the recuperation. I don't give her much longer in there, It took me a good three months to heal, and I doubt she's going to be ok by the end of the show.

Which is why you wrap them in towels soaked in cold water. The idea is to get oil to cling to the towel instead of you.

When I first got my stainless steel pans that you can take from stove top to oven and back..... Took the chops out of the oven. A minute later I went to move the handle inward so the boys wouldn't knock it over having completely forgotten that it just came out of the oven. Never had a skillet I could broil in too. Ice and aloe only help so much.
