Go Mochi! Cody is too blah. Janelle is too ugly and fat. Nick and Miguel are solid. But go Mochi! You are the only one making this show enjoyable. All the judges are lame. No personality to them at all. Me thinks they should go overseas and find a brit. Or a person of color. If it wasn't for Mochi and her hilarious comments this show wouldn't even be on anyone's radar.

And is it just me or does Mochi look exactly like what Mady from Jon and Kate will look like in 20 years?

EDIT* Oscar was interest as well. Very smooth that Oscar.

Jon and Kate? As in Jon and Kate plus 8? Never thought I'd see a reference to that show on this board, but I do see a resemblence. I know that any of those kids would love to look as good as Mochi at Mochi's age. Rock on!

I agree with Cody and Elizabeth: "snobby" is not the right word. A better adjective could provide more constructive feedback.

Soar away!

Mochi was fantastic, as usual, if she doesn't win, I'd really be shocked...

Miguel is consistantly inconsistant and that will do him in in the end...

Cody doesn't appear to listen and change, I found him a bit combative today...

Nick is improving, potentially, he could win, but I don't think hes technically as strong as he has appeared the last few weeks

Mochi is by far the most talented dancer left...she executes when it counts to perfection and I love her personality!

That's what puzzled me...he was a bit emotional when he talked about his life, so he CAN show emotion...then why is he not showing??? I feel Cody is getting the kind of comments Nick was getting before, and Nick is getting what Cody was getting--as if they switched places now.

I like the cat fight tonight...

Mochi, Cody and Nick--anyone of them wins this I'll be happy. But of course, I do have my favorite... rolleyes.gif

I agree.

Calling Cody "cold" may be fair. But "snob"?? I think that's grossly unjustified.
Radiorox
Okay, so I usually don't post, but... here we go.

This, for me, was a so so eppie. Loved seeing Vincent work, was great.

Nancy, I've loved her through the competition but, tonight, she really lost my respect. That whole "snob" word, I've though it. I have. The way Cody holds himself is very snobbish. It took a few eppies for him to grow on me and realize that he's just a stong dancer and his energy is all about the strength.

However, she could have chosen a better way to bring that point across. In fact, it didn't help him, he still danced the same at the end.

What really ticked me off was her "shutting" Elizabeth up. That I found to be incredibly rude.

I started watching because I saw Elizabeth was going to be the host, else, I would have passed it up. I am sure many people tuned in because of Elizabeth and then fell in love with the show.

Elizabeth isn't just some stupid host, she's a performer who has receieved a lot of critisism for some of the choices she made. I think she's a great person for these young dancers to get some feedback from.

Just my two cents.

So, the final four. My guess - Mochi or Miguel. Yup, Miguel, I see something in him, I think he's the wild card. Let's see!

Discuss Episode 9 Here!

First, I want to thank Vincent for such beautiful choreography. It was stunning and emotional. I watched because I thought it would be a different show. Truly, the only episode I really enjoyed (before this one) was the Stomp one, because it was such a difficult challenge. This episode made me a believer. The dancers were great; I love Nick and Mochi; Cody needs to really let his emotions go; he really has a wall up. I would have had a hard time deciding between Janelle and Miguel. I am looking forward to the finale; want to see what these 4 can bring.
Once again, thanks to Vincent for some amazing choreography.
MOOPS
I thought Nancy was great tonight. We finally got to see her in action and I think all (except cold snobby Cody) the dancers walked away with something from the experience.

Oh - and Elizabeth should shut up. Nancy, Vincent and Jerry worked on this challenge. Not her.
clarakotka
It seems like Elizabeth's only real function is to tell the booted dancer they've gotten the boot. She doesn't mentor the way Jerry does. She dropped by the apartment once. I'd like to see her interact more at times the dancers aren't doing the callback performance.
foodie5
this is the all time most horribly chauvanistic, male-slanted show i've ever allowed myself to sit through. i'm not even watching the finale. what's the point. she hasn't even got a shot and she's the best all around dancer they've got.
nick? are you kidding me with that cheesy grin? that's the real him coming out, real emotion? can you say the fix is in?
i also can't even believe these pathetic judges...what is it with this woman and her insistance on using the word snob? she HAD to keep using it over and over again? the woman needs an emotional beating back. or she's trying to get attention somehow. it's really the worst of all the bravo series' and i love dance. the guest judge really rounded out the ridiculousness this week...i can't believe it, elizabeth was the only reasonable voice at all at that table. this show truly blows. thank god so you think you can dance is finally back. not to mention i'm really sick of the michael jackson anniversary focusing...i really wonder why we continue to celebrate the music of a pedofile? seriously, i don't care WHAT this person has done, he's still a pedofile and if anyone had a child who was abused or stopped to actually think about it, it is a horrible, horrible thing. his work should not continue to be celebrated no matter how great it once was. it's disgusting.
A-GA
Way to Go Nick!! That was an incredible performance.
Vincent did not make it easy for the dancers. IMO, Nick's was the highlight performance...BRAVO and ENCORE!
Congratulations to Nick on getting the acknowledgement from the judges that I felt he deserved and congratulations on the WIN.
I hope Nick can take it all the way....very much looking forward to the finale next week.
AND Bravo to Bravo for finally showing us some dancing!! THANKS!
Blue69Heeler
Cody,
Yeah, there may be less emotion in your face, but your athleticism and extensions and control are wonderful. You totally eclipse all the others. In fact, try though I may, I can't even focus on them. Guess it's a matter of judges' preference, but in my book you're an amazing dancer. Go for it!

I'm also really disgusted by Nancy's comment. Personal attacks are not the best way to motivate someone. Very unprofessional! Nancy should remember that respect goes both ways.

Sorry guys, but I have to disagree with most of you about Cody. At today's prices for concerts and Broadway shows, I'd rather spend my $100 plus to watch a strong, technically skilled dancer like Cody. Remember this is not a personality contest. It's suppose to be about dance and Cody has been strong throughout with Mochi the best runnerup.
koolflip11
Mochi!!!! You rock girl!!! Im a big fan of yours since I started watching the show. To the judges: I just can't understand why you always keep on placing Mochi on second place next to a white person. She definitely stood up for the last three challenges I believed and she most definitely nailed the dances they were choreograph for them. The guest judges even made obvious comments on how she dances flawlessly but disappointingly, someone else wins the challenge. Is it because she's a minority? Short? Dark? Asian? Most of the people who follows the show here in Chicago feels the same way. We believed that Mochi has it all!!! It doesn't really matter what color you are, what race you belong, how small or short you are. It's all about your performance. You technicality, your grace, your professionalism, your passion, your execution, even your facial expressions when you dance, you are so perfect!!!

Nick on the other hand was also good. He has proven himself but common, we all know that he lacks technicalitiy when he performs... and Cody man!!! you are so hot!!! You definitely have a promising career in dancing! I would sign up for a dance lesson with you....

Was Nancy unprofessional? Actually, no. Having worked in the theatre industry for years each director and choreographer has their own way of communicating to their dancers and actors. Do I think the way she speaks to them is more counter-productive than productive? Yes.

A GOOD choreographer would have realized by now that the METHOD they are using to communicate to a particular dancer is not working, and change it up.

So my 'note' to Nancy is, if your dancer isn't understanding when you tell them they are coming off cold or aren't showing enough emotion, then try another approach. Why doesn't she ask him about the stuff he's been through (cause obviously he has) and ask him to put some of those feelings he had about that situation into his dancing? I think she's just been doing this too long and that all of her so called 'desire' to see the dancers do well is bull. He obviously has talent, and if you believed in him as much as you say you did then you would try harder.

P.S. And has anyone even thought the reason Cody is so guarded is because of all the stuff he's been through?

I think its unfair to say Cody is "snobby". I'm a stage actor; we call it "wooden". Very different from saying he's a snob, which is untrue. As far as emoting, he is very wooden.

Perhaps it is his past that prevents him from letting go and its understandable. But he needs to not let it impede his performances or else stick to dance venues where it doesn't matter as much.

As Janelle's brother, it must be difficult to read "ugly & fat" in reference to her. You handle yourself with grace.
Daygirl
Those of you who have commented on Nancy's rude and childish behavior should be sure to check out her blog re: this ep. She REALLY lets her personality come through-and all I can say is yuck. Yes, I realize a choreographer/producer can and should be tough and I think that's appropriate. But, it's also her job to motivate and communicate and she's not very effective. And as far as her treatment of Elizabeth, wow....that was just plain rude. Elizabeth is not a dancer in the competetion, but another person sitting on that panel whether technically a judge or not. Interesting to see how Nancy handled being challenged and interrupted....someone with class would have handled it graciously. I don't care how talented Nancy is, please BRAVO, replace her!
JCpalmsprings
Snobby not at all!
Classically trained and confident yes.
The guy has the best extensions and lines out of all of them. I thought his background was ballet???
Not an appropriate or constructive term to use on a dancers performance...

gotta agree with this. It's a DANCE SHOW! I wanna see DANCING!!.....and I finally feel like I got to see a lot more tonight. And holy moly, Nick really brought the thunder this week. His performance really was the standout~ I thought the victory would go to either him or Mochi. Either one of them deserves to win the whole thing.

Cody is a great dancer~ no doubt. But he couldn't seem to bring what they wanted this time, and whoever said "wooden" is right. That's the correct word to describe his emoting.

I was surprised to see Miguel slip so badly. I think he's a strong dancer, but as it was shown with Janelle, emotion and 'passion' isn't enough, you have to have the technique combined with passion and you have to be able to be diverse, you have to have a range. To me, both Janelle and Miguel (more so Janelle) have narrow ranges.

Nick & Mochi are the strongest all around dancers, no doubt.
goldiloks
Are you KIDDING ME?? Janelle may get flack on here, but she's absolutely my favorite person on the show. She's beautiful and interesting and funny and a great dancer, especially for her age. She was 18 up until that episode. That means the longest she could have possibly studied was 16 years. You can't study everything at once!
Omg. And between her and miguel?? Hello, thought THAT decision was obvious. She may have "weak knees" (whatever the hell that means...), but at least she doesn't freakin' fall out of her turns! HELLO!!! A professional dancer does NOT fall out of their turns. Hell, even a young competitive dancer does not fall out of their turns [especially in a performance]! I should know, I am one.

I bawled, hardcore, when they said she was out.

I was surprised that you'd feel this way, but of course you're entitled to your opinion.

For me, I really appreciate Elizabeth's interruption. She's hired as a host and I do feel she has to fine tune the pitch when it's off. Nancy probably believed she would HELP Cody by provoking him, but IMO she really abused her power as a permanent judge a little too much. I totally agreed with what the guest judge have said: Cody is in a professional dancer's trap. And for the past few weeks, I believed he already got the message Loud and Clear.

Being a snob means being ignorant. Cody took the message to heart and kept trying. Honestly, it's not working for me too and it does look awkard when he tries too hard. But, if he gets it, he gets it; if he doesn't, what's next? He loses in this competition and gets on with something positive! Other than ratings, should this be the message this show tried to deliver? What helps by calling him snobby?

I was bothered by Nancy's comment tonight -and I'm not even a big fan of Cody. sleep.gif
Scott124
First time responder here - what compeled me to write was Nancy's clear misunderstanding of the English language. Snobby? Even in her own blog she states that Cody is guarded. That is quite a leap to snob.

As for her interaction with Elizabeth - if I were the producer - Nancy would be fired.
tracygee
Nancy, just...ack.

Just for her education a snob is:

a person who imitates, cultivates, or slavishly admires social superiors and is condescending or overbearing to others

Love or hate Cody, that really doesn't describe him at all and it is a huge difference from the words 'guarded' and 'cold'. Cody was right, by using that word she might just as well have called him an a**hole. Gee, and she doesn't like it when people get 'defensive' when they are receiving critiques. When people get personally insulted they tend to get defensive, Nancy.

Lord, and then Cody went and told her he hears her "black" critique, but doesn't agree with it. How dare he ignore the brilliance that is her advice??!! Yikes, I'm surprised she didn't jump over that table and strangle him for the audacity. Thank goodness Vincent stepped in and tried to give Cody the same feedback, but in a different way...which is what a good teacher should be trying to do.

Either way, I hope Cody is able to hear what they're telling him and just let go during his solo. I find his performances absolutely beautiful and amazing to watch...to the point that I can't concentrate on anyone else. Can't wait to see what he (and the other contestants) are going to pull out of the hat.

There! That's the word! I managed to delete a really long post I made (sob) but I'm glad I found this one to respond to, instead--now, no more mistakes.

I do like Cody's technique. I don't see him as egotistical. If Nancy COULD have come up with a better description of his demeanor and what she wanted from him, he might have been more able to respond appropriately.

I don't see Miguel as egotistical either--I think he is really quite unsure of himself and masks it with a big mouth and a false bravado. That said, he will be gone soon, I think since his technique is too inconsistant and his cockiness is very annoying. Good call on Prince, I hadn't thought of it but it is true.

I don't think it is fair to judge Janelle's body type. She is immature and it was time for her to go, but for her style of dance her body type is a natural--she is strong and athletically built in her upper body rather than having the willowy strength of more classically trained female dancers. I think she will continue to grow in her genre.

I was pleased with Nick as winner tonight--he really brought it. And Moshi is just so consistantly good--her professionalism shows at all times. My money is on Nick and/or Moshi as the winner but I'm not ready to say which.

On another subject, has ANYONE ever seen a rerun of the episode (6?) of the modern dance with the rings and Moshi (maybe?) getting injured and needing to change her program? I missed the original and have tried and tried to see a rerun but have never found that specific one. Thanks.

Finally, I have to say, having come into this show with a jaundiced eye I have found it fascinating, I've learned so much about dance techniques and I'm definitely going to miss it when it's over.

Cheers,

I have had the same question. Normally, they rerun the show several times on Thursday nights, but this particular episode was just shown once that night and then disappeared...poof! This was the one where Michael was the eliminated dancer, but I missed the 10PM run. I looked at the "video" section on the Bravo website, but did not get much out of it to determine what happened that night. Maybe they will have a day of showing all of the episodes soon....one can only hope. Sorry not to be of much help on this topic....just in agreement and showing support of the topic.

Well clearly Nancy O'Meara showed you why she is a judge. Her commentary has never been highly articulate, I said early on she needed to "step it up" and be more specific in her comments. BUT, seeing her work with and interact with Dancers shows me why she is a Super Star. She has that rare quality of professional that can pull something amazing out of someone when they are not even sure it is there. Any dancer would be very lucky to even audition for her!

I also liked her Irish spitfire (let me finish my point!) commentary. Elizabeth was true to her role in trying to be a hostess and not let Cody feel bad about Nancy's comments. I adore Cody's work so I think I can say that "Snob" wasn't the wrong word entirely. Cody grew up with a dance teacher mother. He's been in Broadway shows. He has a pedigree! But what Nancy was really saying is "forget who you think you are; let go of any preconceived notions about who is the BEST in this Competition because anyone could win or loose."

Seeing Jannelle leave broke my heart. She embodies what a young dancer coming of age is and to my mind is an uber talent, a rising star. (Janelle if you ever need a lawyer in LA here I am). Cody and Mocci have already made their marks on broadway and in reality (love that pun) I wonder why they are in a dance competition with 18 year olds who don't have the same professional experiences.

I agree that Miguel should have gone home (long before yesterday)! His lack of respect for the other competitors is disturbing. If he had Cody's talent I could understand his behaviour, but clearly he doesn't see himself as we do.

Nick did shine and may be the "darkhorse" that wins the race. I notice that not only are his steps cleaner, and that he is integrating his feelings into his dance, but he also looks like a winner. He's cleaned himself up, (shaved) got a nice haircut and dressing more fashionably. Maybe a step on to the metro-sexual platform was all he needed to feel like a winner and dance like one.
