laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif Yes, it is common to wear cowboy boots and hat with a business suit in TExas. Especially West Texas, Dallas and Houston I think. I find it funny, unusually polite and funny! yeah, it seems that most of the feedback I get is people thinking we are way friendly. Though some Canadian friends said they met the most dullards they'd ever seen in Houston.

Austin is not like that so much and I am surprised that the other poster...was it jay? said that they acted that way when he was here.

Jay btw/ what company did you work for? I mean, did you work for EDS or did you work for a company that put you there? I just wondered b/c I used to work for a consulting company in Austin that placed people like that. Sorry it was a badish experience. I can't stand people being overly proud of Bush either for no real reason other than he was the governor and owned the Texas Rangers! haha.

I'm from West Texas (lot's of helmet hair) but I live in Austin and I love Austin.

Isn't it funny in the US that in lieu of royalty we have regional prominent families that inspire some to loyalty because of philanthropy or public service or just mystique.. Where I grew up, the influential family was Du pont. Here, the family is Kennedy. And there it may be Bush.. rolleyes.gif
And for some there is the cult of "celebrity".. certainly fun to watch at times, but cringeworthy overall. blush.gif So much attention and money for so little talent.. wacko.gif

All very true...

I grew up on the South Shore of Massachusetts... so I'm well aware of the local "Royals"....

I always joke that if you think of the Cape Cod peninsula as a "flexed arm",
my hometown is the armpit of MA (both literally and figuratively).

Sorry for the delay, but I wanted to read some of your posts first.. most from two shows I have never watched, but great posts. Plus, any friend of NiCi is a friend of mine, so hiya! biggrin.gif

I thought the show was entertaining. The 1st elimination was right on for me. That type of attitude doesn't set well w/ me. My biggest question is "where do they get these people to model?" So sure I'll be a hair model for a tv show that will grant life changing opportunity to someone...oh by the way don't make my hair short/oh you want to color it? What is up with that? Crazy. I know it adds drama but c'mon. blush.gif

I wonder if they have someone fix the "bad" hair. I kind of kept waiting for one of the sylists to offer to fix the hair they messed up.

But we have a criticism of the judging. One of the things we liked about S1 is that the judging made sense and it was fair even when they sent Tabatha home. Looks like we've got a bit of an Anne Slowey on our hands with Kelly Atterton. She was all over the place; praising the blue hair Charlie did but criticizing Gail's by saying that "This is something that someone would be absolutely slammed for wearing on the red carpet." Who said anything about red carpet? You mean to tell us that someone walking around with a 3-foot blue beehive isn't going to be slammed?

Hmmph. We've got our eyes on you, [expletive deleted].

Anyway, congrats Daniel!

There's a bit of a disconnect with Daniel.
He's kind of cute in that nerdy twink way and then he opens up his mouth and sounds like a middle-aged Dallas socialite.
Visual: cute blond boy. Audio: Lady Bird Johnson.

I'm so glad that this show is back on- I love it!
The first challenge was crazy/risky. I wouldn't let anyone cut my hair while blindfolded. I like the girl who won (Dee?) she is cute & spunky & I liked her haircut. Oshuns was pitiful. The elimination challenge was fun! I just wonder why they had to double the cartoon characters up...there are more than enough cartoons to have given each of them a different female character. I was shocked that Parkers Betty Boop wasn't in the top group, it was super cute-(my fave) I did like the winning hairdo though, it was fierce.
So my faves are: Parker, Daniel, Paulo, & Dee.
I'm very excited that Tabitha will be in an episode this season, she was by far my fave last season.

Sorry Shear Genius doesn't do it for you, but if the BBB gives us an SG off-topic thread, might we at least see you there?

Or will we have to wait for PR5 to hear from you?

At any rate, we need you to keep in touch.

I can't speak for anyone else, but this is my first season to watch and I'm just "feeling my way" on this board. I know absolutely nothing about hair, but find it fascinating to watch! I think to myself, so that's how that's done.

What was it Kim Vo (he's adorable) asked Oshun after the blindfold? Where was his point of reference or whatever? And Oshun couldn't say? I think he knew he was sunk right then. IMHO.

I actually thought the challenges were interesting, and the people aren't dull or anything, but I just found the whole thing to be an out of body experience for me. I could see I should have been involved, but I wasn't, and the whole thing just left me kind of sad.

And that guy, Oshun? I know he probably has talent ; he did make it there, but every time he said "I'm Oshun, and I'm deep" I just felt sorry for his delusion. We don't see people fall apart like that on the other Bravo shows, and I found I just couldn't stomach it.

I'll probably continue watching, but it just isn't what I want, or need.
Just Asking
Is Daniel related to Michael, who was on Top Design?

Here's Michael's picture.

I can't get Michael's biography,so I don't remember whether he mentioned that he had a twin or that he was from Texas.

Hey all,

I am glad there is a board for season two. I just got to watch the first show, I think this was a bit of a teaser, the previews for next shows looks like drama!Next week they have the real housewives of orange county, and Charlie already made fun of them on the first show, I wonder if he knew something? And speaking of drama, is it me or did anyone see Dee cheating on the blindfold challenge? Her mask was way up her face and she was tilting here back a little to see out the bottom, and to add salt to that she told Kim she used a feather razor at the end, then Kim asked her weren't you afraid using a feather razor blindfolded? HMMMMM

Michael does have a twin!

But his name is Richard and they are from Massachsetts... dry.gif

I don't have a fave yet. The winners Dee and Daniel seem deserving. I hope they don't have a trapeze challenge where the stylists have to cut hanging by their knees upside down! tongue.gif

Maybe I know what you mean bear. One has to be in the mood to enjoy a show like this, or it all seems so plastic. wacko.gif

It may help to look at the stylist's photo galleries where they sometimes share photos of parents, friends, godchildren, etc. And then it's clear that these are down to earth people making a living with skills and artistry similar to those on Project Runway.

Sad to say, Oshun's photos are more insecure than most, showing him in front of movie trailers and sportscars. I am hoping the show will be inclusive of many hair types and styles and not just the latest celebrity trends whatever they be. Just as in fashion design, some lines are timeless. See you on the Project Runway Boards I hope!

I find that a lot of the time when I post I do it at work, when I have some time here or there. During the summer I find I just have other things to do when I'm home. It is summer, and Denny is out of school, as well as Drew, now that he's back at work, wants to do things after he gets out of work. It doesn't leave much time when I'm home.

By the way, I took Denny to see "WALL*E" the day it came out. I strongly urge all who are reading this to go out and see it, like, immediately. It's a big warmhearted picture ; an art film masquerading as a children's film. It will make you look at things in a whole new way, and isn't that what art is all about?

I Loved WALL-E, I saw it on Fri. It was great...

Funny & smart & made with love...
like all of the PIXAR films...
and the short Presto before the film... had the audience rolling...

I miss having cartoons shown before the feature... my local movie house would do that when I was growing up... but now it's all commercials... sad.gif

This is just another reason to worship Pixar. When you go to one of their films it's a certainty that there will be a short feature before the main event, and who doesn't love that?

I wait for the DVDs to come out just as much for the shorts as I do the features. They're wonderful, and, in fact, "Mater and the Ghost Light" may have been more entertaining than the feature, "Cars", that it led up to.

Luckily they seem to know this, and you can get the shorts at itunes for a $1.99 each. LOL Don't mind my pimping for Pixar. It's what I do.

Austin wasn't that bad! I just suffered a little with the weather! In July I had to stop playing tennis! The air quality was sinful! <Blames Bush> lol!! I actually went to a few bars in town off 5th and 6th Ave.! I don't remember too much of the cowboy stuff except maybe at the airport! I did have to go thru Houston on a weekend trip to Phili taking Continental! Helmet hair was prevalent though! lol!!

I was out at Rialto Plaza off 183 N if I remember correctly! The agency was based in Houston, but they needed me in Austin to deal with normal operations at EDS-NHI if that helps! My memory is not what it used to be! I also remember a rather large mall an exit or 2 from my hotel; Arboridium or something close to that! It wasn't a bad experience except I wanted BUSH to lose so badly after how he treated Ann Richards! She was my girl; OLD GIRL! lol!! I loved her Keynote Addr. at the '88 Dem. Convention! That's what set W off! He can't stand attacks on his Daddy and he was out for blood! I heard some horrendous stories of push-polling trying to bring her down! If people are stupid enough to let stuff like that persuade them, we deserve what we get; and we've been getting screwed over royally by Bush and his minions ever since!

oh, the Arboretum is such a nice area. I lived up there for awhile. The weather can be very hot that is true. In late september they have a huge music festival called ACL (austin city limits) and it is so hot. I sweat and walk and am outside so much-i'm surprised I don't faint. Especially with all the beer drinking. But I grew up in the heat so I guess it doesn't bother me so much. I went through 3 summers without AC in my black car...that was fun! Where did you say you lived now? We have already had more 100 degree days than we usually have all summer. I think like 15 or something. This saturday my nephew ran in the Keep Austin Weird 5k. He had been living in NM and was a little surprised at how hot it was.

I liked Ann Richards too from what I remember about her. Never been a Bush fan.

In Chicago now and so far, the comforter has to be dragged out at night! Still ridiculously cold most evenings with overcast skies and rain periodically! Back in California I would have been suffering with you! The West and South is taking a pounding; fire and heat! The midwest is just being deluged; lucky my son is on high ground in Missouri!

Harvey squeezes millions out of PR....

"$8 million. Does that seem like a lot of money...? It kind of does. But that's how much Harvey Weinstein, is trying to squeeze out of L'Oreal for three seasons of sponsorship of Project Runway.

Nekisa (however it's spelled) needs to get over herself. Her insecurity is showing whenever she complains about someone performing better than she.

Matthew impressed me with his classic styling of the long hair with pearl necklace blush.gif , but his red carpet look simply failed. As to his personality, I don't trust the editing and don't feel I have any clue as to what he is really like as a person. I do get the sense though that his love for his wife is real and he is not just trumpeting his heterosexuality. Dee and Nicole are super talented and I like their positive energy. Glen is good too. I agree Nicole is full of herself, but you gotta admit she is good, well except for the red carpet look. Paulo, he's gotta go. I haven't seen anything from him that impressed me except his body piercings, but not in a positive way. If I walked into his salon, and saw him, I would walk out! First impressions do count. Don't like Dee, but don't know why. Glad Gale was in top three, should help her confidence. Kind of neutral on everyone else. Stay tuned laugh.gif

I recently went on vaca out west and drove through I-70 on my way out. Looked at St. Louis and it wasn't so bad and I wondered what all the hype was about. However, On the way back went I-80 and went through Cedar Falls IA. Was shocked at the devestation. I mean blocks and blocks of stuff hauled out to the curb. My heart went out to these people. They have lost everything and I have so much. Fealing guilty as sin. Rivers were still way up and the mosquitos were terrible. On vaca the weather was in the 70's during the day and 50's at night, it was beautiful. Then came back to Ohio and all we've had is rain and hot humid weather. Yuck! Was in sales and used to travel to Chicago all the time. (Morton Salt, my biggest account) Loved the energy of the city and I do miss it. Lucky you!

Dee and Nicole are super talented and I like their positive energy. Glen is good too. Nekisa(sp?) not so much. Charlie is a riot and has mad skillz. Daniel is the most annoying to me, pissing his pants over a hint of celebrity.. get a hold of yourself man! No.. not there! rolleyes.gif

I agree with you about Dee, Nicole, Charlie and Daniel. I especially like Dee and Nicole and Charlie is a hometown favorite (he's from Denver). Daniel looks like an updated Buddy Holly (I'm gonna see 'him' in a 'life of ...' production next weekend)--the teeth, especially.
I honestly thought between Matthew and Paolo Paolo should have gone. But point well taken--Matthew DIDN'T listen to his client.
I missed a piece of the discussion with some of the last 6 last night, the emergency broadcast noise came on--WHY do they DO THAT!!!!
Maybe 'there' is the only place Daniel CAN get hold??? laugh.gif

Yes, Paolo is always a mess. happy.gif

Nekisa(sp?) not so much. Charlie is a riot and has mad skillz. Daniel is the most annoying to me, pissing his pants over a hint of celebrity.. get a hold of yourself man! Sorry about the bad day.. hope this nonsense is a good distraction. wink.gif

I am not quite sure how you see Paulo is a mess? He almost seems the underdog. He even got a great comment from Kim at judges table how he loved his hair, I think that his styles are the most wearable in the group, so that kinda is strange to read. I think I like Paulo because he is different, he keeps going outside the box. Matt should have gone home for sure, and yes he does talk about his wife too much, and he didn't even want to be there (check out his exit interview). In any reality compaction if someone says that they don’t want to be there, I get a bit upset because they just blocked the way for someone else who really wanted to be there ....so goodbye Matt thanks for wasting our time. I think Gail should go, she is the mess. Look at her before and after on the bravo site, they are consistently really bad. On the red carpet you could see bobby pins sticking out all over the place and yet she was in the top? But I really think you should look at the before and after pictures that they have posted and I think you view would change. I love Charlie but his after picture on the sight for the last challenge was "a mess" yet Paulo’s looks really great. Looking at the pics gave me a perspective on the hair. I also have been checking out all of their myspace pages and most of them have great blogs there as well. Then I make a more informed decision on who should go next….that would be Gail ;p

Hi all. I just love this show. It's so fun! My husband claims he hates it but always winds up on the couch with me when it's on. smile.gif However, their DP and gaffer need to be fired. The lighting is sooo awful on the show! When they bring the models out you can't even see their hair properly because of the crappy lighting. There are all sorts of shadows on their faces and hair. It's awful! The only one who looks good is Jacklyn and that's probably because she has her own lighting guy making sure she looks fabulous. Even when they were outside on the red carpet on episode 3 they shot it in the middle of the day when the sun was right above their heads and created all of this harsh light and shadows on their faces. It looked terrible. For a show that highlights hair, they sure do a horrible job lighting it. OK, that's my gripe. Thanks for *listening.*

By the way, Matthew is SO a closeted gay. What heterosexual guy would mention his "wife" as many times as he did? It just got to be so funny after awhile. We had a bet going last night as to how many times he would mention his "wife."

Oh stop! I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on that! I went to Amsterdam with a friend of mines and the 1st day he was missing his wife and kid! We were supposed to be there at least 2 weeks! We ended up moving our departure up at least 4 days to accommodate his emotions! Straight people can be just as sentimental! lol!!

I'm not denying straight guys can be sentimental, but come on! I wasn't buying Matthew's sincerity about his "wife" one bit. I think he just wanted everyone to know that, "Just because I'm a hairdresser doesn't mean I'm gay." People who are comfortable with their sexuality don't need to advertise it as much as he did. Matt stated that he and his wife have been married about seven years and work together. I believe he mentioned they'd not spent much time apart. If so, he could easily have full-blown homesickness for her. Might just have been an unanticipated side-effect of the competition. Personally, I thought it was rather endearing. But, that's just ole Sentimental Jazzie LOL!

Later folks!

Paolo's "red carpet style" would be better for Stargate Atlantis. Maybe Kim Vo is a fan also, but as imaginative as this style is "hair show" hair or "runway" hair would not be appropriate for an event where a lady is photographed from all angles and mercilessly scrutinized.

Matthew working hard.. but..but...but....

Matt didn't believe the client when she said that her hair wouldn't hold the curl.. oops!
Matthews curls go limp.. on the Red Carpet challenge!

Gail's Red Carpet hair is blah.

Charlie's Red Carpet style was a deserving winner!

Gail does not impress me, nor does Paolo. Paolo is very full of himself, while Gail admitted fearing that she was going home last challenge for unfinished work, yet she did not. So there is a better chance that Gail will "step it up" than Paolo who always seems shocked to come in near last IMO.

BTW.. I try not to let personality sway me. For example, Daniel irks me to no end with his celebrity worship, but I see his talent. rolleyes.gif

I'll tell you why I believe Matthew is sincere. He is such a bad communicator! And he dresses trendy.. not much personal style. He would have to be more sophisticated for me to read more into what he said. Besides, look at him! He's gorgeous, six foot.. forever.. What does he have to prove?

I give Paulo one more week! lol! What a mess! What's up with Nicole? Where is all this animus coming from? She was so rude complaining about her models thin and wispy hair! Sheesshhh! Not once, not twice, but thrice! She should have been smacked by the judge letting her know that was not professional! She's in a bad place no doubt! She was indifferent or peeved by everyone and everything! Talk about fake! "Get over yourself GIRL!"

No, Nicole didn't step up to that challenge, did she? Complaining to excuse a lack of skill. Can it be she never had a client before with thin hair? Does she screen clients by thinness or thickness of hair? Imagine! rolleyes.gif

Or perhaps he really did miss his family! If he'd been missing his child, would that have made him whatever? Many couples, not all I grant you, are friends as well. They miss one another when apart.

Am I missing something in regards to watching these shows? I'm very serious here. Are they to be watched because we enjoy seeing these competitions, and the day to day give and take between contestants? Or do we watch primarily to ridicule?

Really, I would like to know. huh.gif

Excellent question!
I, personally, enjoy the shows and the interplay (and yes, sometimes a little bit of drama) between the contestants. Sometimes the boards do seem to be about picking the contestants (and then the other posters!) apart, and that I really don't find entertaining at all!

I agree with you, and I can only speak for myself and my opinion..
And I am just as guilty as anyone else regarding my snarky remarks....

To answer your question... I think it has a lot to do with our culture...
We are very cynical & sarcastic...

We seem to be perfectly comfortable criticizing each other but not so good at complimenting someone...

It's like what a customer service representative must go through....
at least 90% of the responses are negative (because we tend to only voice our opinion to a company regarding their product when we feel the need to complain)...
Very few people pick up the phone or put pen to paper to congratulate or thank a company for doing the right thing or creating a great product...

Because of this (very human tendency), I tend to take everything posted by individuals online with a grain of salt...

I am here because I love Reality TV and especially Bravo...

I know I get snarky and can be harsh at times but.... in the end it is out of love... wub.gif

And hopefully a few chuckles...
