Well, the show was entertaining.. cutting blindfolded for the quick challenge and styling based on cartoon characters for the elimination challenge. Daniel won, Oshun was eliminated.

I don't know that Oshun was the absolute worst in the elimination challenge. What he did in the back of his Lucy inspired hairstyle was very creative. I think the tall guy who did the black with blue tinged big haired Marge Simpson was the worst. I think Oshun was dropped because he did such an abysmal job cutting blindfolded in the first challenge. I doubt he does much cutting day to day. He probably specializes in color and curl and wave and weave. It's too bad we don't get to see his creativity there.

IMO ribbon curls can make a woman look very elegant if they are arranged creatively. And Oshun said it was his strategy to hold back at first and wow the judges later..
But I think it was the type of challenges that foiled him, not his strategy. ohmy.gif

Well we're off and running showcasing last season! I miss Theodore; he was a hottie! Tabitha was by far my favorite! Her Victoria Beckham style was absolute "Shear Genius!" The mohawk wasn't bad either! Tyson probably was the best hair-cutter, but his ego sent him packing! Let's hope we don't have another Dr. Boogie! He was just too weird! Ben was from here in the Chicago area, but I still can't believe he made it to the final! His lack of knowledge with color and perms was shocking! Some people don't want to use chemicals! I understand that, so become a barber! lol!!

Last nite's challenge cutting a client's hair while blind-folded was the most ridiculous thing I've seen in a while! They actually cut themselves while trying! STUPID, stupid, stupid! We got a Tabitha look-a-like; just another HOBBIT! lol!! A couple cuties on the show! The winner was from TEXAS; Gack!!
ICUTHAIR
I cannot wait to see more...maybe its because my boss is on the show, Paulo...

He's just the same on the show as he is in person.

I thought the blindfolded haircut was genius!! It is a challenging thing and I felt bad when the stylists were cutting their fingers trying.

As a hairstylist myself, cutting yourself can be common especially when they probably all had their blades serviced before they left for the show. So they probably were extremely sharp.

The elimination challenge was definitely interesting. Often times clients do ask for something outrageous or extreme when they bring in a celebrity photo. IT was a great twist to have them be cartoon characters and something they had to interpret to modern day wear!!!

Hey Note!

I liked the show thought the first challenge was a little scary blind folded? ohmy.gif Sorry I like my ears just the way they are thank you very much.

The Marge look was more of a Peg Bundy too me than Marge Simpson. The Other Marge look reminded me of what Chris from PR would do...lol

I had the same reaction, Actor! When he started describing how he made a substructure out of hairpins, I immediately saw Chris's collars in my mind's eye.

I was a bit concerned that the blindfold cuts were done on real women rather than wigs on wig forms, but I guess you need real women in order to feel out growth patterns, and at least the "victims" were able to provide some Seeing Eye guidance to the stylists.

I've been with my stylist for almost 20 years, and he knows my hair intimately, but I still don't think I'd let him work on me blindfolded!

My only problem with last night's episode was the blatant obviousness of Oshun's loser edit. I thought the Elves knew we had them figured out back around PR4, and I was surprised at their choice to go back to Editing 101.

Hi Note, I had promised myself not to watch this season but where was I last night? Sigh, the road to hell and all that.
Oshun may have done okay on the Lucy thing (and I agree, I liked the big hair Marge (how many people said it looked like Peg Bundy? Myself included?) even less) but to be honest, by the end of the evening I said to myself (and my faithful dog, Shadow) thank God Oshun is gone--I don't think I coulda took too many weeks of "I'm Oshun, I'm deep."
Well, we'll see if I can get back to my intentions (not likely once I've been sucked in--I even managed to watch several episodes of Top Chef!!!--and, of course Project Runway is coming up fast.
Blessings, and especially to you, my friend,

I'm posting from the boonies of Massachusetts, but yet very close to a commuter rail into Cambridge and Boston. I've noticed people visiting in town from Texas often wear those Stetson hats and riding boots with business suits. The few I have spoken with at tourist spots have been unusually polite and friendly. I have never encountered anyone like the crass stereotypes on television such as loud pushy nouveau riches, though it seems the ladies do wear helmet hair. tongue.gif

I would rather visit a world class city in Texas than vacation in FLA again! ohmy.gif

I actually thought Parker's Betty Boop should have been a tie for first place with Daniel's Wilma Flintstone for the elimination challenge...

And Charlie's Marge Simpson was the worst (which the judges picked for top 3!) -
It was total Halloween costume! Definately not updated for everyday!
Anyone with Marge should have done an Amy Winehouse Bee-hive with a blue streak in it....

Well, I think I'm enjoying Shear Genius because I don't have expectations as I have not watched previous seasons.
I am very much looking forward to the 5th season of Project Runway!
My interest in Step It Up and Dance has waned, but I might give it another try. I stopped watching Top Chef after Dale left. I'm hoping Bravo will come up with a show to replace Project Runway like The Malan Show or a show like that. Bravo just has to mine the gold! biggrin.gif

I am so happy Rene is back - I was worried in the beginning of the show when I didn't see him.

I wonder why Sally Hershberger is gone although I do like the replacement judge.

I knew Oshun was gone the minute he was placed last.

The blue hairdo was HORRIBLE, as was the Peg Bundy - sorry I don't know thair names yet.

And of course Jacklyn looks wonderful and I can't wait for the Charlie's Angels!!!

Although the tone and (especially) the judging elements are close to PR & TC, this show is not produced by Magical Elves. It is produced by Reveille Productions.

On a good note Magical Elves are taking over the production of Season 2 of Top Design!

I think the goggles the clients wore wrapped around their ears but I could be wrong. I think the challenge favored the younger contestants who cut every day as opposed to the salon owner/contestants who might not have as much recent experience and "hand memory" for the new styles.

I agree with you about the Marge styles. "Big hair" was trashy, "clown hair" was just ridiculous. Less literal interpretation was needed! Hair stylists and designers who piss around and humiliate the client don't last.

My stylist is sweet as Baklava and a grandmother. She has promised to keep me as a client after she retires! If I ever went off my gourd and asked for blue dye she would save me from myself! Her husband has retired, but when he sees me he makes a "snip snip" motion with his hand.. his half joking threat to cut my hair short like a "good boy". rolleyes.gif cool.gif

I was living in California back in the '90's! I got a call from an agency that was looking for a computer consultant for EDS in Austin! I was very hesitant for many reason, but they offered top dollar! It was worth it I suppose, but for only the 5 months I could put up with the city cowboys, the pollution, the humidity which was stifling even at 10 pm at nite, and of course the love-fest with Bush! There was no one I could rag on the man with unless I called back home! lol!! He had been a titular head of the government, but didn't do anything to eleviate poverty, the very low expectations in schooling, and a growing problem with local business poisoning the water and air! He really let them run wild while he was governor!

Matthew is HOT!
My roommate was turned off by his "The only thing I love more than hair is my wife" comment (he felt he was proclaiming his heterosexuality a la Kevin from PR4) but I pointed out that Dee had just made a statement about her girlfriend so.... It's all good.
Besides it wouldn't be my first crush on a straight guy.

Nekisa is beautiful and witty, Paolo & Daniel were hysterical!

I believe you. But my expectations of Texans were set so low by media that I was shocked and impressed by friendliness and pure civility. Even the lady who complimented me on the flowers (I was wearing a track suit) was not a snob. I wasn't even slightly inclined to correct her that I was not a Parks Dept. worker as she was quite enthusiastic to describe her own garden and I shared her interest. wink.gif

Oh I never said they weren't civil and they did everything they could to make me comfortable! I just have trouble with the SOUTH! lol! I'm not so sure Oshun was intended as the sacrificial lamb. Rather, I think the producers thought they had another Dr. Boogie—an OTT personality who claims to have major show-biz connections—and wound up with a complete incompetent. Once his loss was in the can, of course, he was given an old-fashioned loser edit the obviousness of which I haven't seen since PR2.

I'm kind of glad to see the back of Oshun, though. Boogie was a lot of fun to watch. Oshun—not so much.

Austin wasn't that bad! I just suffered a little with the weather! In July I had to stop playing tennis! The air quality was sinful! <Blames Bush> lol!! I actually went to a few bars in town off 5th and 6th Ave.! I don't remember too much of the cowboy stuff except maybe at the airport! I did have to go thru Houston on a weekend trip to Phili taking Continental! Helmet hair was prevalent though! lol!!

I was out at Rialto Plaza off 183 N if I remember correctly! The agency was based in Houston, but they needed me in Austin to deal with normal operations at EDS-NHI if that helps! My memory is not what it used to be! I also remember a rather large mall an exit or 2 from my hotel; Arboridium or something close to that! It wasn't a bad experience except I wanted BUSH to lose so badly after how he treated Ann Richards! She was my girl; OLD GIRL! lol!! I loved her Keynote Addr. at the '88 Dem. Convention! That's what set W off! He can't stand attacks on his Daddy and he was out for blood! I heard some horrendous stories of push-polling trying to bring her down! If people are stupid enough to let stuff like that persuade them, we deserve what we get; and we've been getting screwed over royally by Bush and his minions ever since!
cndrela
I thought the show was entertaining. The 1st elimination was right on for me. That type of attitude doesn't set well w/ me. My biggest question is "where do they get these people to model?" So sure I'll be a hair model for a tv show that will grant life changing opportunity to someone...oh by the way don't make my hair short/oh you want to color it? What is up with that? Crazy. I know it adds drama but c'mon. blush.gif

Thinking back on this episode it reminded me of my favorite "Hairdresser" scene from my childhood...
(BTW I would spend endless hours watching Looney Toons... and today most episodes would never make past standards & practices!!! But of course the "adult humor" just went right over my head...)

Bugs Bunny and the Monster! (Did you know the monster's name was Gossamer? I didn't until I googled Hare Raising Hare... I couldn't believe I remembered the name of this episode even... it truly was a favorite)

Anyway.... I wish they had Gossamer as a cartoon inspiration...
(my sister had red hair and during the "80s-big-hair-days" she looked like Gossamer! I just called her "the heart monster from Bugs Bunny" because I didn't know his name...)

Enjoy!

I was confused about the Marge blue hair thing. Not sure how that would ever work for anyone except Halloween. But then...I am not a fashionista.

Rene is certainly beautiful...and I am glad to see him back. I am puzzled by his "hey hey" and his "go shake it". Is there something I am missing here?

Although the tone and (especially) the judging elements are close to PR & TC, this show is not produced by Magical Elves. It is produced by Reveille Productions.

On a good note Magical Elves are taking over the production of Season 2 of Top Design!

Thanks for your interesting info! So glad to see Top Design will be back... and better with the Elves in control. So what the heck happened to PR that it is moving to Lifetime? Other than money???

Just his "catch-phrase" like Tim Gunn's, "make it work!" I don't see anything more in it! It also may be something related to his show in Europe! Since I haven't checked it out, I can't tell you much about it except it's supposed to be reminiscent of Queer Eye here!

Rene is Danish, I believe the "Hej Hej" is Danish for hello....

And "go shake it" is probably a Danish man's interpretation of Jose' Eber's
"Shake your head, darling".... (mixed with "shake your booty")

He was the Kyan for Europe's version of Queer Eye....
and not surprisingly is a model... at Wilhelmina

OK, this is what I heard... and anyone out there, please feel free to correct me...

When the show was up for renewal (the Bravo contract had ended) Co-producers Heidi Klum & Harvey Weinstein (The Weinstein Company) shopped the program to other networks...
without allowing Bravo to have "first right of refusal"....

These articles explain it much better than I ever could...

Thanks for the insight. Guess I will always be a doofus. But I am a lifelong learner. So thank you very much!

Tim was being interviewed for some program a while back and hinted something was going! That he wasn't sure he'd still be on the show or if it truly was moving! I didn't pay much attention! I can understand the producers being upset with all those copycats; Top Design among others were dreadfull! The message board for them was enemic! Never too hard to keep up with my post and the replies! lol! Sorta like Shear Genius now! 3 pages is all that can be mustered! Shessshhh!

I agree that everyone wants to be PR these days....

but it seems to me that the move had more to do with money, than anything else...

It is curious that executive producers Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz (of Magical Elves) are staying at Bravo & not moving with PR to Lifetime!

I think PR will suffer without the "Elves' Magical Guidance wink.gif ", since TC is also their "baby" (without Heidi & Harvey-thank you very much...)
and it is also a truly great show...
