Maybe he has a "Rabbit Habit"? Anyhoo I really didn't like Meredith's client's hair. It did look like a mushroom on top of her head. I loved Dee's hair!! Now about that Charlie, ewww, I would not ever want him to do my hair! wacko.gif

So excited that Dee won this short cut challenge. I'm so rooting for her. But yes, ewwe to Charile and his hair cut, and also his attitude. Is that how he acts in the house.... geez, couldn't live with him.

Love the kitty! Thought that the round robin hair challenge was dumb. How can you judge the final result when too many stylists were to blame!
DVRZombie
I don't know, to me it was kinda unfair. The whole thing was riding on how well their clients styled their hair that very next morning, most people-if they ever do get it- need a bit more time to work it out. Some get it right away, others need time, some take years, others maybe never and they are your "once a week" blow outs. So it was sorta luck of the draw for our stylists here. I do understand that this was the essence of the challenge. That being said, I say the cut surely has 60% to do with it. Nothing shames me more than when a client comes in for an appt. w/me and looks totally jacked because she didn't style her hair. And then gives that lame "I knew I was coming in so I didn't do anything with it." Ahhh! I hate that! At least put it in a low pony or tuck it behind the ear or something! Geez. I will say this, I had a client a few years back that really worked at learning to style her frizzy curly hair. After much practice she got better and better and faster and faster at it, and she mastered it! Of course this meant I was only seeing her for her cut/colors and she stoped coming in for the blow outs, but you know I was really happy for her, seriously. And she made me so proud when she'd come in for her appt. looking like she'd just been "done."

I was a bit disappointed that all the women started their own styling with wet hair. I am a night shower-and-shampooer and dry my hair before getting it out of the way before bedtime (except on weekends). In the morning, I dry-style my hair.

I think I'm pretty good at it, but I'm sure I'm not the only person who doesn't have time to shower and shampoo in the morning, and I'd liked to have seen some dry styling on the part of the clients.

Also, while Charlie was not on top of his game, I find it unfair that he was called on the carpet for not coloring his client's hair. There are many of us who don't want our hair dyed.

They always seem to dump on the person that keeps it simple and really doesn't do much while others are running around like chickens with their heads cut off! Remember last season with my baby Theodore? There he was giving this woman a hand massage and really didn't transform the woman with so-called overly curly hair that he said he could easily deal with! He was history and I knew it! None of these shows lets you get away with just kicking back while others are hustling around the place! Nicole sorta got away with it; 7 min. style by her client; "twist and dry with your fingers!"

I have read it, but I don't agree with her approach to series commas, since she doesn't put a comma before the last item in the series, and in many cases, this can cause confusion as to what is associate with what. It's also a very British approach, and while I am "bilingual" in British and American English, my editing follows American patterns.

Just as an example, tell me what sandwiches are in this list:

Beef, chicken salad, ham and cheese and bacon

Is it ham and cheese or cheese and bacon? I stand by using a comma before the last item in a series.

Well, I had technical difficulties last night and only saw the runway of PR's 9pm showing, so watched it after SG. Then was too tired to post!

Nicole was so cute after winning the short cut challenge! I'm rooting for her, especially because I want her to show up Daniel and Glenn.

The wigs were a fantastic challenge, but few did a good job. SO many faces hidden by hair! And I am SO tired of the client being blamed!! "That's how she wanted it." Uh huh. When I want something my hairdresser knows wouldn't be right for me, she tells me why and makes suggestions. Hello-oo?

Not to toot my own horn but....
Do you remember my post from July 13th?

QUOTE (Snagglepuss @ July 13, 2008 - 03:12 AM) *
I have an idea that I think would make a really interesting Challenge on SG...

What if the stylists are given clients with no (or very little hair)...
What if the models have lost their hair due to illness or injury and need a great wig?
I think it would be awesome to see what a stylist would do for a client if they had no limitations...
They could choose the length, the color, even the texture that they feel is appropriate for that woman.
And then cut and style the wigs and present the ladies with a really high end wig to take home...

There would be tears during the catwalk for sure...(Ladybird 'Daniel' would be a mess)...

What do you all think?

Anyone else have a Challenge idea to share?

Ok, I admit it, I am totally tooting my own horn! (But hey if I can't get some toot from somebody else, I am sooo not above giving it to myself!) blush.gif

I was just surprised that I was so close on this challenge... but it was Nicole & Paulo who were in tears and NOT Ladybird Daniel blink.gif .... LOL

I DID remember your post! Admittedly not who posted it but I remembered I'd seen the idea.
I agree with the few posters so far; I, too, (is this an appropriate use of commas oh grammar mavin?) am getting tired of the clients being blamed for unsuccessful styling (it happens on PR too, if you've noticed). Come on, ladies and gents--you're the pros, you need to be consultants!
I'm hoping that the wigs that were really unsuccessful can be fixed in some way--these ladies deserve great styled wigs for putting themselves on the line.
Nekisa is getting on my last nerve with her continual complaining and excuses--step up, accept responsibility, or step out.
Even tho' I haven't been crazy about Paolo he rocked his style last night!
Off topic (sorta) but along the same line of clients putting it all on the line and risking embarrassment, Carson Kressley is back on Lifetime with How to Look Good Naked. Premiere was Tuesday night--a large lady (my friend and I call ourselves the Large Ladies of the Law School) who was brave enough to put it all out there and was SO transformed!
'Nuff said for now.

I remembered it, Snaggs, but after the show there was not a new thread, and I also did not want to do the whole "alert" thing for people who had not seen the show yet...

I was touched by the nose ring guy... up until this episode, I just did not get him (at all!). But when he cared so much for his client with the wig, and it brought him to tears... and when he was so genuinely thrilled that he had made her something wonderful... I could not have been more pleased that he won (then when they asked him how it made him feel to win and he had to go and do the "hump thing" and almost ruin it... dry.gif )!

I was also touched by how emotional Nicole got, and how badly she wanted to do a good cut for her client even though she had never cut a wig before...

Definitely one of the better challenges.

On the other hand, it really was uncomfortable when the judges were commenting unfavorably on the cuts of the wigs. I just kept thinking, they had better be giving these ladies new wigs, perfectly cut after the show is over! Other clients, the hair will grow back, with these ladies, this cut is IT!!!!

Ok, I admit it, I am totally tooting my own horn! (But hey if I can't get some toot from somebody else, I am sooo not above giving it to myself!) blush.gif

OK, big fan of Bravo but new to the boards. I HAD to chime in re: the 7/23 episode, which made me cry. I have had total alopecia since I was a toddler, and a lifetime of wigs of every style and color. What struck me was how BRAVE those women were to "come out" with their alopecia on TV. It's such a personal thing, and I don't even tell people until I'm sure I can trust them. One girl mentioned how horrible middle school was -- you can't even imagine the humiliation of having someone pull your wig off during gym class, and I'm here to tell you, that experience kinda scars you for life. I was also impressed with how sympathetic the stylists were to the women, and how much they wanted to help them. I think people in the beauty business can be judgmental about wigs, and I've been the victim of finger-pointing and whispering, especially when my wig was frizzy or out of style (not now, since I have a fabulous wig now, and people always ask for the name of my hairdresser!)

But, this was the ultimate challenge for the stylist taking responsibility for the style. Since I get my hair out of a box, I am pretty much clueless about all that!

Great episode....

So where's our episode 5 thread?

I do think this was one of the most moving and amazing episodes of any competition show ever. And it made me completely restructure my thinking about Paulo.

However, bad as Gail's look was, Nikisa's was far worse—and her attitude was worse still. I do not understand how that woman survives challenge after challenge. I wouldn't let her within 10 miles of my hair.

When I posted the photo of Paulo on another thread a few weeks ago, I wrote....
"maybe this is how you celebrate winning Shear Genius?"

I do think the judges underestimated him originally and now (after more time has passed) they can see who is truly the strongest and most versatile...

I think Paulo is going to win!

I like Nicole. I think it was funny how some of the

other haircutters were laughing at Nicole because she

had never cut a wig before. Then she comes in second

place and could have won had she known how wigs can

look clumpy on short styles. I think some people have

underestimated Nicole.

Kari! It is WONDERFUL to see you again!

And I totally agree with you! Nicole really touched me with how much she cared about her client and wanted to do the perfect short cut for her wig, even though this was new to her (and difficult). She totally put the needs of her client before herslef and I respect her for that!!!
jspringstun
How is it Saturday, and no new thread for episode 5!

I was a little disappointed with the "ohhs, ahhs, and oh my gods" of the stylists when the ladies pulled off their wigs. It was like they entered into a circus to see the freak show. That being said...

I am almost happy with Paulo and Nicole for coming in first and second place respecitvely. But their clients were looking for the most change, a "party wig" or something "sassy". I wonder if the other contestants were looking for more of the same to fit within thier comfort zone. (Not discrediting the amazing job both stylists did)

Just a thought...

Thanks! I have a few links pertaining to this episode:

Kelly Atherton's Allure blog:
http://www.allure.com/magazine/blogs/sheargenius
I was surprised to read this
"Get this... after Gail got the boot, (because she gave her model a "slight flu" effect, according to Kim, ha!) Oscar gave Gail his card, and told her that if she ever wanted to move to New York, he would hire her and train her! Goes to show: Gail is extremely talented, she just lacks confidence (think back to her gorgeous red carpet look). Which, at 25, is normal, if you ask me...
Gail, you should totally give Oscar a call. And can you ask him to send me more of his dry shampoo? I'm running low."

And Kathy, one of the contestants posted on an Alopecia website:
