I don't know if this has already been posted, but here's an article on Austin:

http://www.innewsweekly.com/Pages/ArtsEntSplash.html

Apparently he an Vanessa were chummy after the show.

All I have to say on the whole ashlee/jessica thing is have you heard jessica butchering of her Robbie Williams remake????? Beyond that…they both SUCK… (hop topic thing..you would not say that if you actually knew their clothes an clients)

I’m objective, the BR challenge, only good designs were from Wendy, Alex, and Van…the rest fell short or flew over the top…eg. Jay and Austin flew over the top,, the rest ..missed the mark…Banana is SOOO mid market, rip off high end designers…it’s not funny…to be successful the CREATIVE designer needed to rip off her/his design for that market… grandmother’s closet doesn’t mean GRANDMOTHER’S CLOSET…know design when you crit this…

Austin wedding design is not the judges going back on the premise, but the fact that Austin FAILED..granted his most original design and my FAV design by him…but he FAILED the challenge (for all you who think his Sarah design was great, all I have to say is have you seen the orign illustrations for Alice in wonder land? Total rip off, besides I think all the desigeners failed this task..was suppose to be a total make over of her image not one inspired by the video..ie girl in small house…WOW! Alice in wonderland… what a make over!!!

As for those who say Jay should design for Paris H. again know design..that’s more Heatherette..ie immature What’shename Stewardt….

Alex never had a chance in this competition, only thing she had going for her were her looks…and I’ve seen better…better hit the gym Alex, can’t see you inn your own bikini…(she’s the designer like many who say, “I have no brains, I have no talent… let me design”)

Finally, let me say the whole FIT thing is like the LCF (London College of Fashion) You go there when you can’t design but don’t get me worng, if you go to Parsons your not that far behind..(remember Ford did not major in fashion..only name from there that sticks out)…

According to the Sold auctions, this is how much money each designer has made so far with their designs from the show:

Jay $1400
Kara $1190
Austin $930
Wendy $885
Alexandra $707
Nora $410
Vanessa $285
Kevin $265.50
Starr $75
Robert $55
Dan $15

keep in mind that some designs were never offered up for auction (wendy's BR dress, kevin's wedding dress, mario's work) and this does not count the ongoing bathing suit sale.

this confirms that my favorite (yes.. Jay) is very appealing to many people who would be in the market for these type of clothes!
birdaileen
here is the same list but with the number of items sold as well to clarify:

Jay $1400 (4 pieces)
Kara $1190 (3 pieces)
Austin $930 (4 pieces)
Wendy $885 (2 pieces)
Alexandra $707 (3 pieces)
Nora $410 (3 pieces)
Vanessa $285 (1 piece)
Kevin $265.50 (3 pieces)
Starr $75 (2 pieces)
Robert $55 (1 piece)
Dan $15 (1 piece)

is anyone else surprised to see wendy so far up on the list with so few designs auctioned??
greyparrot
Austin: What can I say? The guy was BORN to dress women (albeit, not brides). Win or lose, I can easily see him as a red carpet darling of Hollywood beauties. His personal flair, and "girl, I got some gossip" personality are just icing on this talented piece of cake.

Jay: Here is the weird thing: I cant imagine myself wearing anything he has created so far, yet I am extremely envious of those that could. His deco dress and bathing suit were nothing short of genious...and yes, gorgeous too. Stranger still: He is my personal favorite. Again, win or lose, this man clearly has a bright future. The wealthy avant garde ladies will kneel at his shrine.

Kara: Clearly this girl deserves to win, and I hope she does. No, there are no trendy bells and whistles in her designs so far, just consistant understated elegance. This gal is a "classic" act just waiting to happen...clothing that will still look stylish 30 years from now.

GOD, I love this SHOW!!!!

I wonder if bravo will have a second season with new designers.

If Bravo does bring on a second season of PR (And they'd be foolish not to), I think they should borrow from the pages of "American Idol", and allow the public a say in which designers stay and go, perhaps voting off some of the designers and leaving the finals to the judges, or vice versa. If you think about it, we would be the people potentially buying their designs and their products, right?
Why not get a little public feedback to gauge which designers would be more marketable?

Thanks for the post. This kind of dollars and cents analysis is what grounds us in reality. Tho as you point out may not be completely scientific because of absense of some designs on auction sight.

Now - why is Jay in the "lead"? My opinion: his designs - if not necesarrily the "best" (Austin takes that title hands down) - are the sexiest.

yeah, i feel like seeing what people, real people, are actually willing to pay is important, and it gives a new perspective. jay's stuff is really sexy, and also very youth-oriented. i think the fact that kevin has brought in much less money that wendy with more designs sold is really interesting. objectively i would have put kevin ahead of wendy in terms of designs, but it seems that in the world of dollars and cents, as you say, this isn't the case.

vanessa, selling one outfit, also outsells kevin's three...
interesting.

Good point. If I hadn't heard them say that or that upcoming rock star's speech, I would have thought Austin was way off-the-way. Given I did hear what was said, I understood that he went with the comment and they did not mean it at least as far as how Austin thought they did. The colors Austin chose in that "rock star" challenge were Alice in Wonderland, and the woman endorsed that "take." She didn't say Bride of Frankenstein. Maybe Austin should have given her his wedding dress design instead...lol.

lk

And personally, I think the "Alice in Wonderland" dress was so much more cool and original. I mean, I have seen the pink and black thing so much this year, I was puking back in September. Really, I like Kevin, but... Jay's was also way more creative, but I liked the colors of Austin's more. But hey, that's just me!

I never thought of Kevin as so... hot but after I read his profile, I can see why you're a die-hard fan! I'm still sticking with Austin to win, but I think the picture actually looked good. It would have sold for me, anyway.

Ashlee Simpson severely lacks the talent that her sister has. Her sister can perform. Ashlee has been booed twice.

I have friends that go to Hot Topic, my two best friends, and I like most of Hot Topic's clothing. I have a bottle-cap, recycled rubber and car seatbelt from LittlEarth, my friends have a tutu toule skirt and boots, pants, bags, jewelry and wristbands from Hot Topic. HT is a great environment with really nice people, but I just don't love the Tripp pants. I don't see why any "goth" - read: poser - would wear huge black pants w/ purple or yellow or red lining and whoo hoo, suspenders in the back!

Oddly, my post on the other thread in reference to the personal ad was "edited" by the Bravo message board people. I don't know how it was edited, because the content was not changed in any way, but there was a little strip of text at the bottom that said it was.

Anyway, I feel the need to reiterate... That totally was NOT Kevin in that ad. It does not look like him at all. Another factor pointing to the fakeness of the whole thing is the inclusion of the "poster's" full name. What kind of person would put his full name on an Internet personal ad? Is this something that a person who hopes to become a high profile fashion designer (i.e. someone whose name would be often and easily searched on Google or Yahoo or whatever) would do, especially when he's appearing on a major cable network television show? I really don't think so.

Not to mention, who said he wasn't gay?

It wasn't since it was on topic for "The Designers." Look again and you'll see it's still there. Every single copy you cross-posted to all the other boards was removed.

Note the names of each topic -- "The Models," "The Judges," etc. They're there for a reason. A word to the wise: repeatedly posting the same thing again and again to get attention, either within one topic or across several, is bad message board etiquette and a good way to get kicked off the boards.

The show is really interesting as reality shows go... Kara Saun has a lot of talent and class which it seems others possess one or the other of... She is my favorite to win...

Jay is wacky and funny... and yes very talented...

Austin is more drama than talent and is a characature rather than a real person.... Fun to watch though...

Wendy's photo on your site looks like Cruella D'Ville... She is bizarre and has issues (age and other things)... She is strategizing as if she is on "Surviver"... Instead of worrying about strategy, she needs to focus on finding who she is as a human being and then as a designer but mostly on designing good fashions. She desperately need to visit the set of TLC's Makeover Story and get that taken care of and come to terms with her new 15 minute celebrity.... This is undoubtedly her first, best and last chance at it....

The rest are somewhat non-descript.... sorry to say...

I've just caught the re-runs but I already have a favorite: Jay McCarroll -- this guy is a major talent. He can do rough and ready urban wear and he can do beautiful couture work with fine detailing. I'm looking forward to seeing his stuff actually produced, whether or not he wins the show. Heck, I'd even shop with him now, does anyone have his contact information?

What I don't understand is how Wendy is still on the show. And surprise, surprise, she won the Banana Republic dress challenge by essentially lifting from the Banana designs that they showed? Talk about kissing a**. C'mon! Her work is neither conceptually interesting nor skillfully executed. Booooring.

Hey Jay McC, I'm rooting for you!!!!

Hello everyone. I'm new to the board but I've been following along with the show. I'm absolutely hooked now. My favorite designers are Kara and Austin. Sometimes I like Wendy's designes and other times I don't. It's very rare that I like an outfit that Jay designs. The only outfit that Jay designed I actually liked was the one for the Banana Republic challenge.

I did not care at all for the swim suit that Jay designed last week. It was hideous to me. I can't believe that the judges actually thought that his design was one of the best. I really did not agree with them on that. Austin's swim suit was the best. He is incredibly sweet and I am so glad that he's still in the competition.

I wasn't a big fan of Nora or Alexander. I'm happy that the two of them are gone. They were troublemakers and I didn't care for their designs at all.

I'm really looking forward to the show tonight. Thank goodness that it doesn't come on at the same time as American Idol. Can't miss that either. Lol.

Well, what can I say... We two have so many things in common ! Including the age-thingie: I've been 25 for several years, now I'm 26 (several times already). So I guess he still could be 34-35... We also do have the same hobbies, the same musical taste, do the same physical activities and read mostly the same books. Ah, Kevin, you should have found me before my husband actually did ! Too bad for you, Kevin, you don't know what you missed.

P.S. Kevin, I still love your designs, so if you want to offer me anything, it would be gladly accepted.

But lets not forget that this is all pre-taped and his nickname was "awarded" after he made that comment. It's all about selling the show and designers. I don't see anything wrong with it, sport cars are sexy as are women.

Hey everyone I am also new to the board. Kara rocks, Jay is just like the guys I went to High school with - fun for a party do you really want to work with him, Austin is the gay best friend every women needs, Kevin thinks he is really cooler than he is, Robert tries to hard not to care, and Wendy well I think the producers needed someone that the fans could universally hate. We all seem to agree that as a designer she lacks essentially...talent. But the others well they are where they belong. the Final Three - Kara, Austin and Jay. if Austin stops making costumes and Jay stops playing with fire tempting God with his "Jesus impersonation" well it will be a great showing.

Easily, it can be seen as a sexist comment. Both being said to be mindless, high-maintenance men's toys. More objectification. Can't you see that? Whether he believes it or not, women have long been put down as brainless appendages of men and this comparison feeds that stereotype, agree with the association or not. One does not have to be a "feminazi" to get that.

I wholeheartedly agree! While the comment masquerades as a compliment -- men love sportscars -- it also suggests that women exist only for male pleasure and enjoyment. That women have no independent personality, desires, or intellect except insofar as they are admired by men. While Robert seems like an okay sort, I have found that particular comment offensive from the get-go.
I am a lot more complicated and intelligent than a Porsche. On good days, I'm sexy, but I also have my own life going on. I'm not just waiting somewhere for a man to show up and "drive" me; I don't exist to enhance my husband's prestige or the admiration he gets from other men. Robert comes across as considerably LESS sexy than he might otherwise be, by continually repeating such a brainless line.

I learned a new word from Jay that I think suits you: Femi-nazi. Robert is simple, his idea that women are like sports cars is simple, and his explanation is simple. It's such a typically female thing for you to take what he (robert) says and analyze it and attach more meaning to it than he ever intended. I'm a woman, and in my opinion (even though i don't like his designs), there's absolutely nothing offensive about Robert being inspired by sportscars because he thinks a car is like a woman. I'd be terrified to say anything at all about women if I was your boyfriend/husband/partner/whatever other PC term you might use.
