Maybe you weren't watching the program when Jay used the word to Robert. You aren't getting what's being said, either, so maybe the one aspect explains the other. Certain concepts carry the capacity to offend, whether intended or not. This is one that does that. I cannot say exactly what Robert's intent is. Maybe he has some issue with his mother...lol.

all i can say about tonight's episode is buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuulllllllllllllls#@*!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wrong! someone said something about wendy looking like cruella deville, made me laugh.
in the beginning, she was out to destroy others and her designs were "unfinished". by the banana rep time, i was so happy for her when she said she was going to stop her "strategy" and put all her effort into her design.
once she did that, she won! then she goes back to being a fake, manipulative person who seems very much like crualla deville on the INside! Kara was 100% right doing what she was doing in justifying/ presenting the collection. that's what they had to do. wendy just laughs at everyone to instead of contributing. kevin's design and the collection suffered due to his efforts of checking on each design and he loses to the [expletive deleted]???
she had the nerve to sit there with her smirk after being -ugh i am disgusted with her and the judges. i am sure she is next to go but i think kevin deserved to win more than she did this week.
glad to see morgan go. adios! and what an attitude she left with. after all her completely unprofessional behavior. i just need to vent. very frustrating to see everyone doing their best and working together and her being a horrid b%#^* and winning that way.
i do think the collection needed to be pulled together but overall i like it. they could have presented it better to explain why aust and kev were separate "distinctive" would've worked.
just needed to vent. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
i will miss this show when its over though. i do love it.

I think that's the trouble, Valo. You don't get what's being said because you're 20 and you think being compared to a Corvette or something is a compliment. Wait till you have a real career and want someone to take you seriously about what you do and say. Being somehow vacuous and high maintenance might not get you very far. I have just filed for a PhD. I like to have a lot of fun in my classroom but make no mistake about it: I have serious credentials, I know what I am doing and I do not wish to be treated otherwise. You're young enough to be a student of mine and I would not want you to think you could talk your way through not doing your work or failing your exams. It won't happen. And I doubt you'd want an instructor to think of you as an intellectual lightweight, either.

I respect your point of view but the stereo type is because we always assuming that men are the only ones that own sports cars. The design of a sports car is slick and sexy regardless of the sex that owns it.It's just a compliment and we as women need to feel more secure about are being so we don't have to dig hard into comments like these. Beside, I do believe he said it was inspiration of the car and not the comparison people made it out to be.

I totally agree with you jadenpen03. I am SO upset with tonight's decision. What were they thinking, picking WENDY the WITCH over Kevin? She is so evil and heartless. I actually felt sorry for her in the early episodes. But now all I have to say is - I hope her kids dont watch the show. I'm sure they would be mortified at the way she manipulates everyone.
And Kevin, dear sweet talented Kevin! I knew when they picked your name out of the bag that you had no chance - those wolves would eat you alive. No one could lead that group of prima donnas! You were my fave from the beginning, and if the Russian bride thing doesn't work out, you can give me a call!
I think the final 3 now will be Kara, Jay and Austin, and I'll be rooting for either Jay or Kara. Austin is too pretentious for my taste. I am tempted to boycott the show based on tonight's decision though...

I totally agree, but I just got called to the carpet for tipping the West Coast off on the episode before they can see it. I can never watch the show straight thru the first time it airs because I get stressed about who might be "out." So I watch the end first, then later enjoy the whole episode.
This time I heard or watched much more because I knew that Cruella couldn't eliminate Austin.

It is beginning to look as tho the final three will be Jay, Kara, and Austin. Can't see Wendy or Robert penetrating that group - unless something dramatic happens in the next two episodes.
Have noticed that Kara and Jay never seem to miss. Neither has really had a bad week. I love Austin, but the wedding dress missed badly and his 2055 design was mediocre at best. Where was his trademark delicacy, shape and fine tailoring? Thought his choice of Erin was interesting and may have worked well for him, but he gave her too brittle and too dowdy a look.

ok now, lets talk a fair game. Robert offends women? how about that Jay, what was that comment of his on Episode 3, "I'll use Robert as my slave" Gee, after all these hard years to erase the nasty past, after people had their lives inflicted by the term "slave", we today celebrate a national holiday, MLK Jr. to remember how that term and that past is gone.Lucky for him Robert is white otherwise there would be a lawsuit pending. Oh, but aren't all men created equal? should a white male be referred to as a "slave"?
I personally find that beyond offensive.

As for wendy's emotions shown tonight and preview of next week's emotions, I wouldn't believe her if she was amazingly crying honestly. All i see is crocodile tears. Steve Irwin may take offense....... Point is I would trust her as far as I can throw her and I couldn't even pick her up.

Good point, but do you really think that a man imagines the car to be owned by a woman? You might be giving guys too much credit. I read a interesting work where a theorist looks into why Victorian painters (almost always male) loved painting dead or dying females, like Ophelia (the pre-Raphaelites loved her) or the well known "Fading Away" which depicts a young tuberculosis victim on her death bed. She emphasized the priviledging of the male viewer or the "male gaze" as others have called it. Hence man is subject and woman is object or acted upon. This binary functions most clearly during the Victorian period where women were essentialized as being exact opposites of men, or everything men aren't. Men are logical, women are emotional. Men are active, women are passive.
I'm sure none of this sounds new to you. All the stereotypes about men being pursuer and "naturally" promiscuous and women being the pursued and monogamous come from the ideas most fully expressed in the doctrine of "separate spheres." Don't you see how the car thing plays into this?
I am NOT saying Robert buys into this. Indeed, I thought his "penis envy" was a strong look and proof he could step back from the concept in order to work with it, even though most women would agree the Freudian concept is a dodge or a mere counter for the strong male envy (as Vanessa showed) of childbearing. Of course, Vanessa's "maternal envy" was something Freud never expressed, since he was a guy, and one with a strong foot in Victorian thinking, despite his efforts at going beyond this. He didn't as far as gender goes. Reading him shows this, though a number of feminists have used him in interesting ways, exposing the conflicts in his work affected by his own gender thinking and then transcending these.
I am probably being a bit simplistic in describing these works but you get the drift and that's all I mean to do.

I can't believe Robert is still in and Kevin is out! That sag bag bathing suit he made last time was bad enough...but bottom line, this week's outfit was soooo ugly. The model knew it, he knew it, the judges knew it! It's funny how the judges did EXACTLY what they said they do over Robert....looked at the lame ugly outfit...heard cute, funny, hyper spiel...laughed...and forgot about him. Sigh...
It was good to see Morgan canned..even though she is quite pretty.
Kevin was too spineless I guess...but it makes you think it IS a little scripted, the way he got leader again.
I liked the bit about Wendy's outfit looking like something the cat clawed (more like a hairball! ) and asking Austin if there were bullfights in the future was pretty funny also!
This show plodded along...maybe with less designers, it's not going to be quite so interesting artistically?
That means more camp and drama....ewww!
The way Wendy was smacking her lips and smirking was sick! (Also laughing at everyone and calling them all yahoos) I hope someone steals her pattern or something next time. I DO NOT want to see a Wendy collection! Bleh!

Well, there goes my theory that the final 3 would be Kevin, Kara and Jay. I'm thinking now that it will be Kara, Jay and Austin (or perhaps Robert in Austin's place). I still love Jay and am amazed he hasn't won a challenge yet. And finally, a word about Wendy. I never liked her until tonight. Real life is tough and they are in a cut throat business. And she was the only one tonight who told the truth on the runway. She made the others look like complete jerks. Good for her. You got to look out for #1, which she did and, on top of that, she called Kevin out on his lack of leadership. Kevin was a terrible leader and he was sunk from the time Tim pulled his button out of the bag. A shame really, becuase he is talented, but it's like he's in his own isolated world.

Wendy is a calculating MESS and I hope the rest have her number down by now. She was so PHONY when Austins model was trying on the wedding dress. "oh, it's beautiful. beautiful colors." Cut to her in the confessionals and she hated it. She is a lonely nitwit who watched too much Survivor before coming on this show, and she learned how to make bias cuts in backs of dresses. She can't even make a g string for cryin out loud. She dressed beautiful Melissa is that unflattering Annie Oakly suit!
DOES ANYONE KNOW THIS NEXT Q?

I'm not following you. Why is that offensive. If Robert was black, you'd have a BETTER case, not a worse one.
Right or wrong, there's been a lot of "_____ is going to be my b----" this week. That statement is along the same lines. If Austin had been shown to tell Melissa to come onto the Post columnist, that would have offended me. He didn't, as far as we know. She was uber-flirtateous on her own.
The bullfighting scene was an interesting act, in that it plays out the usual man pursues woman thing BUT bullfighters are typically men. Woman bullfighters have been resisted in places where bullfighting still occurs, tho a few have existed. Hence with the reversal of the young woman as the bullfighter, to me it wasn't offensive. It was playful on more than 1 level.

i absolutely disagree. wendy started complaining about kevin's leadership before the project even began. she's been very up front about her agenda to pull down others to make herself look better, and i think it's just plain childish. if she had the talent, she wouldn't have to resort to that kind of behavior, but she doesn't and she knows it. she can be as conniving and cutthroat as she wants, but in the end it's talent that wins. no way in hell is that woman getting within 50ft of fashion week.

I hope you're right. I totally agree about talent not needing to be devious. Look at Kara. She HELPED Wendy (the makeup) and didn't have to do it. Kara was safe from elimination that week, but if one wants to stay safe, that designer has to keep winning. I don't think anyone thinks Kara isn't talented. She isn't petty. I think the more talented designers tried to play along that week and not act like a crank, like Cruella did (even if it was largely kept to herself and she was fake to everyone else).
I wonder if there's ANY leader Wendy wouldn't critize if given the opportunity. I bet she'd take down her own mother if it got her ahead.

Well that's deep for a fashion show. Not all theorists are smart. Depicting sadness and illness in art is easier on a woman and has nothing to do with chauvinism . Freud said that sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. In some things men and women are different without shame. There is nothing wrong or insulting about having mens and womens bathrooms, which is not a mans invention. So while you're peeing sitting down don't get offended at every sentence that has a word woman in it.

I too was so fed up with the bullsh!t in tonights show. It just proves to me that it is after all a TV SHOW first and foremost. Wendy sells the show, as big of a [expletive deleted] as she is! More people will tune in now each week to see her drama and wait for the moment we can cheer her defeat and revel in the sight of Creulla DeVille crying! (It's the only thing I have to see in the next two episodes!!) Maybe after that happens we can have one show about fashion and design, trully!
I bet Wendy's children will be so proud to see her mom in her finest tv moments in the years to come. I only hope they give her a run for her money in their teen years!!! HAHA

I totally agree. They are only keeping her in now, not because of fashion, but because she gives them what they want (the producers). Like Morgan was out this week, Wendy or Robert should have gone as well. Their works are not even in the running with any of the other designers clothes.
If Wendy wins...like overall...then I probably will not watch the show again if it is to return for another season. I do not believe that being coniving and cut-throat is the way to work. I also don't like the idea of her designs being on the hangers that I'm going through.

Why are the subjects of illness or sadness "easier" on women? Aren't women hardier than men if they live longer on average? My mother and grandmother are/were pretty hardy. I can't see either being poster types for either. My uncle on the other hand, sure.
You don't think there is any chauvinism left or something? Well, I sure could tell you otherwise. A few from the personal archives: I was paid less not too long ago probably based on a historical sense that only men need make "breadwinner wages" (in this case not true). Or, along the same lines, an advisor ensured that his "older" male student (it was a code word for married with children; the guy wasn't chronologically older at all and in fact was likely younger) got a fellowship that I had earned. So much for merit. Maybe this advisor bought into the sports car concept for all I know. In grad school, only females are ever asked to babysit or do menial things like pick up dry cleaning (there is a famous example of abuse of position over this; the academic happened to be a woman too). I sure know this ex-advisor didn't like women (despite his attempts to portray himself differently) and I sure was glad he retired. In fact, he never turned in any letter of recommendation for me when a committee was considering funding for the following year, though the head of graduate studies claimed otherwise and asked me to volunteer my source. Like if! I knew what that'd do and he was covering butt, for the program and this advisor. The person who told me had no such agenda and no reason to lie. I knew this guy would have made her life hell if I gave up her name.

Hey everyone I am also new to the board. Kara rocks, Jay is just like the guys I went to High school with - fun for a party do you really want to work with him, Austin is the gay best friend every women needs, Kevin thinks he is really cooler than he is, Robert tries to hard not to care, and Wendy well I think the producers needed someone that the fans could universally hate. We all seem to agree that as a designer she lacks essentially...talent. But the others well they are where they belong. the Final Three - Kara, Austin and Jay. if Austin stops making costumes and Jay stops playing with fire tempting God with his "Jesus impersonation" well it will be a great showing.
I've been quiet on this thread for a few weeks now.. but I need to say this: I DID go to school with Jay and I was in an "extra caricular activity" so to speak. We "worked" together for 6 years and he is GREAT to "work" with. GO JAY!!! And the Jesus thing is in fun.. it's funny and Jay is just that-- fun and funny! When you grow up in a tiny little area such as ours and you are a tad bit differnt then the "rest of your school" you either have to a)cry everyday and kill yourself with emotional hell or b)create and have a sense of humor about yourself. Have any of you been to wendypepper.com? You can read her bio there, see photos of her, her fat husband and her daughter. Turns out Wendy should be as miserable as she seems after getting a glimpse into her life. (She apparently used to be a size 6 or so - why would any 40 year old woman include a picture of herself forty pounds ago with a slightly better hairstyle?)
Anyway - you can also get her editorial on each episode - thrilling and "intelligent" as she would say. But the best news is you can contact her with feedback. I begged her to get a makeover - switch networks to TLC and get on What Not To Wear or QE for the Straight Girl or something!!

Goodness Iowa, that was a bit cruel don't you think? Her husband and daughter didn't deserve that. I agree that Wendy's personality is a bit underhanded and that her designs are not the best of the lot. She has put herself out there for criticism, but her family has not.
In terms of the designs this week, I liked the top portion of Robert's outfit as it looked comfortable to wear. I wasn't as fond of Jay's but his talent shines through in everything he designs. I think the collection idea was an interesting one although I prefer to see everyone work on their own overall.

How can Wendy still be in? She should have been out 3 episodes ago. She got her accolade, with her boring black dress, designed for a store that sells boring clothes (I know they're a sponsor, my apologies). That should be enough for her, she's just not good enough. Granted Alexandra & Kevin are quiet, however both are better designers than Wendy.

Without dragging Freud or any other Victorians into this, let me see if I can clarify for those who don't believe that Robert's statement is offensive. --
Classic Sports Car = object
Woman = person
See?
I'm also sure that what Robert means is that he is inspired by old autos in his designs for women's clothing, but unwitting chauvinism is still chauvinism, and in 2055 classic sports cars will have solar panels.
I think that Wendy can be trusted about as far as I can spit a rat, but her behavior tonight didn't bother me. She had legitimate opinions about Kevin's leadership ability. She didn't attack Kevin personally; she gave her honest assessment of his performance as a leader. She wasn't the only one who questioned Kevin's ability, but she was the only one with the cojones to come right out and say it.

I started this thread (YAY!) Not sure how it ended up on the topic of Ashlee Simpson though (Big Orange Bowl BOO!)
To return it to its origins--My predictions for the remaining contestants are still correct! Last week I predicted Kevin would go (if you want to see any of my reasons look at the original post). I'll stick with my earlier guess that next week Robert will leave and then Wendy after him.
I said that Jay, Austin and Kara would be the final three, but to expand on that I now think that Austin will be out first, Jay will be second, and Kara will win.
So I think the contestants will place:
1. Kara
2. Jay
3. Austin
4. Wendy
5. Robert
Also, I'm not really sure why everyone is so concerned about the BR prize 'stifling' the designer. The BR stint is only a 'mentorship' with the company, not a permanent employment. It's really more like an internship, which can only provide invaluable advice and resources to prepare someone for a real career. I'm sure the designers are MUCH more focused on the $100,000 to start up their own clothing line. And once their short mentorship is over they'll be much more prepared to put that money toward where it will be the most useful in making their line succeed.

This week's episode was a disappointment. Save for Jay's and Kara's designs, none of the outfits really impressed me. Plus, the snide comments flew back and forth from everyone, including Kara Saun, who usually doesn't have a bad thing to say about anyone. (Did you notice practically everyone, from Jay to Kara to Austin claimed they were surprised Robert was still around?)
Since my dad is a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, I can't wait for next week's challenge! Because delivering mail really can be a physically excruciating job (my dad's knee caps are gone because of this job), the uniform, including the shoes, must survive the rigors of walking 5+ miles through a variety of climes 6 days a week. Plus, they have to do it with flair! Tough assignment and probably not my favorite's (Austin's) forte.

I think Robert is somewhat perceived as a budding Gianni. Similar personality, looks, etc... I'm guessing he'll finish 4th, based on his designing abilities, but he could sneak into the the top 3, based on perception and personality. I hope that's not the case, but he is someone we'll probably continue to hear about.
Out of Austin, Kara & Jay, Kara should win. Austin & Jay are too much into their own very distinctive thing, which will appeal to a select few. Jay has shown signs of diversity though. Both have incredible talent. Kara is classic and I think everyone is going to want to wear her.

ok so my stupid cable guy came today and messed up everything so i couldnt watch the show so instead i read every post and then watched the rerun a couple hours later...and i watched the preview for next week...the picture is the funnisest thing that i have ever seen...them all dressed in postal uniforms?...wendy looks like an over grown school girl. but any ways about the show...kevin does not have leadership-like qualities and i think that really hurt him this episode and the rock star one...wendy i think designs more for "middle-class" like people...not poor or anything...but people who dont buy dolce or dior and the like. im kinda glad shes still around..not sure why...austin has officially annoyed me to my limit...his designs have no variety i think...they are all costumes and i dunno..im sorry to all u austin fans (im sure ill get bashed for this but...) i really just dont like him..n his designs are great..for the stage, not the runway, in my opinion. I think that kara will win n jay get second. I really like robert but he doesnt really stand out...i think wendy will go n then robert...but well see...so so so so glad morgan is gone, kinda suprised she lasted so long. anyways...im counting down till next wed...

I think Kara Saun and Jay are the only decent designers left. Austin's good, he's definitely got style but I prefer the aforementioned. I don't think Nora should have been eliminated. Though her wedding dress did suck, her past designs were keen. I usually hate all of Wendy's stuff. The only things I've liked from her were the cotton challenge dress and her wedding dress. And I view both as fairly mediocre. Same with Robert. The only thing I've liked from him was the first grocery store thing.

WHy is Wendy always referring to this as a "game"? That's very insulting!

Kevin seems to really have thing for russia/russian girls.
Evidence thus far:
1. He frequently wears the CCCP shirt
2. He placed a personal looking for Russian brides
3. He picked Olga (the Russian model) several times to work with (by the way, she falls into his desired age range of 18-26)
