Actually, I'd want Austin to make me a dress, if it were a dress. Kara has a sort of Vera Wang style to her and I've never liked Vera Wang, not on myself. On other women it looks good. I'd not complain about Jay, though. His wedding dress was great, as was his BR dress. He has good skills and good vision. I'd be very happy working with either one.

I'm not dissing Kara, but I think I'd be much happier in a Jay or Austin creation. Kara's design would be gorgeous but less likely to reflect me or "morph" with me. Which one might be capable of executing a collection would be worth seeing. I hope all 3 make it.

Robert is in my opinion a far worse designer than Wendy. I really don’t understand why you all hate her so desperately; her conniving is so artless it’s more amusing than truly malicious or evil. I feel a little sorry for her. She has produced some lovely things and clearly has talent (BR dress was very chic and polished, bathing suit was beautiful). Last night she was out there alone telling the truth and she has been skewered by the judges.

As for her looks, how she dresses herself--who cares, who cares?! Is Jay good-looking, does he dress himself well, does she look any less attractive than he does?

Robert’s continued presence is much more troubling to me because he’s totally coasting on looks and charm, not talent, and has produced mediocrity (and worse) over and over while far better people, including Kevin, get cut. The other designers know it. Personally I’m much more offended by someone who really doesn’t deserve to be there than by Wendy; I suspect he’s there for “hunk appeal”, for the young female viewer.

Let’s face it, the show exists not to give the design world new talent, but as an entertainment vehicle, for ratings and revenue, and, bottom line, they will be serving their muse.

Ok, I love love love Kara Saun. The three strongest designers left are Jay, Austin, and Kara. Wendy looks like a street walker with her makeup and Rob just isn't anything compared to the other three. I just hope the judges see that.
Hannah_Lorrae
I would love to see a spin-off show with Jay, Austin, Kevin, Mario, and Robert as roommates. Robert could run around naked, and Jay could keep sending out the one-liners. It could be called "After the Runway" about their struggles to make a true name for themselves.

YAY! I'd watch that. Can it be on Monday's, i've got nothing to watch on Monday's.

I totally agree with you jadenpen03. I am SO upset with tonight's decision. What were they thinking, picking WENDY the WITCH over Kevin? She is so evil and heartless. I actually felt sorry for her in the early episodes. But now all I have to say is - I hope her kids dont watch the show. I'm sure they would be mortified at the way she manipulates everyone.
And Kevin, dear sweet talented Kevin! I knew when they picked your name out of the bag that you had no chance - those wolves would eat you alive. No one could lead that group of prima donnas! You were my fave from the beginning, and if the Russian bride thing doesn't work out, you can give me a call!
I think the final 3 now will be Kara, Jay and Austin, and I'll be rooting for either Jay or Kara. Austin is too pretentious for my taste. I am tempted to boycott the show based on tonight's decision though...

I'M IN COMPLETE AGREEMENT. AFTER LAST NIGHT'S DECISION, MY HEART IS JUST NOT IN IT ANYMORE....IN SOME WAYS THE ENTIRE EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN RUINED BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE PEOPLE ARE BEING PICKED OFF RANDOMLY...KEVIN, WE WILL MISS YOU...I WAS YOUR FAN FROM DAY ONE....GO START YOUR OWN LINE AND SHOW 'EM ALL!!!!

"Robert is in my opinion a far worse designer than Wendy. I really don’t understand why you all hate her so desperately..."

Well, we will have to agree to disagree. I find Robert's love of the female form a real asset in his approach to design. Wendy is out of her league. That's why she's had to resort to tricks and treachery. Just when I think she might redeem herself, she opens her mouth again and shows what an insecure weasel she is. She is so unsure of herself that she has to make herself feel better by taking cheap shots at others. That's just sad, really. She should be worried about her age because her emotional maturity is well behind her chronological age. It doesn't look like it will ever catch up...

I think by a certain point in life people have an aesthetic they prefer and they know what looks good on their body. I totally could see myself in Austin's BR dress. A lot of people wouldn't guess that but I've always wanted a decor to look like an English afternoon tea room. Melissa's hair was a bit too much that time, but Austin's dress could do several things: make a woman's back look good, whittle and enhance the waist, and probably play up the bustline. I'm in on all 3. Unlike most of these woman, I have a bustline worth sticking out. Martinique seems like the exception or quasi-exception.

Hello Fans

I would never think I would post on this site but I thought I had to now to clarify some things about Austin. He is one of dearest and blondest friends, we have known each other every since our days at Eastland.

First of all Austin Scarlett is his real name. Second of all for those of you who criticize Austin for being phony or over the top that is he true self.

Austin is incredible kind and generous to everyone. Whenever he walks in Central Park little birds and animals surround his like Snow White. I have since moved away from New York and all that time Austin made sure we kept in touch. He was broke for a time and had neither a phone nor pannier to his name. Even when he had make his gowns out of old curtains just to visit that scoundrel Rhett, he would purchase phone cards and call me from payphones. Most recently he flew out to Omaha to be my escort for my debutante ball. I was incredibly touched. I thought for sure he would mention his trip as the inspiration for his Corn Husk dress.

Austin lives his life like a "Grand Marnier Faberge Egg Soufflé”, decadently and delicately. Plus he has the smallest waist in three counties; I know I can put my hands around it.

One of his Blondest and Dearest Friends,

Vera Charles

One thing Austin has been procrastinating in getting his t-shirt design done to put on the Runway Store website. Many if he heard from all his fans out there who would like to buy something he designed it would prompt him to get it done.

Austin adores all things ultra-feminine (speaking of feminazis ) and seems quite unable to divert from that. I think he secretly wants to dress Scarlett O’Hara (his namesake?).

Ask yourself, if you HAD to give one of these people $10,000 to make you a dress, which one would you choose?

Haha, such a true assessment. Begging to differ...if *I* were to give 10k to someone, I'd give it to Austin in heartbeat. But that's because I not-so-secretly would LOVE to dress like Scarlett O'Hara on a daily basis.

However, if I were Banana Republic, I would obviously give the money to Kara because she is the most "safe" and universally appealing.
Istya
That made me positively giggle.

What a thrill! Thank you for sharing the info about Austin. I always knew he'd be the type to live life grandly, like a "Faberge Egg."

I agree. Wendy also managed to take a potshot at the irreproachable Kara Saun. Did you notice how snide Wendy was when she opined Kara must have "died and gone to heaven" when she took on a co-leadership role with Kevin during group discussion at the Atlas apartment?

I think it does matter that a designer should be able to dress themselves well before they dress other. A true designer lives and breathes of design and that will reflect on every aspect of his/hers life. Yes, I agree with you that this show is more for entertaining than showing true talent, which is very disappointing. As the same time, it is so sad that it puts other talent designers to sham to share the same stage with Wendy. As far as Jay, he is his own individual. His style might not be mine, but I can appreciate his sensibility toward his clothing. It's well put together. There's thought behind it.

And with all honesty, I saw Wendy's dress in BR store, they are the most boring and no creativity dress I ever seen. The cape make the whole outfit looks like a witch's dress. I've seen better.

I don't think Robert is as talent as Austin, Kevin, Kara or Jay. But he is definately better than Wendy. Wendy is a dress maker, not a designer. Please don't confuse the two.
PaleFire76
Thank you for the article on Vanessa!!!
I love this quote from her, which confirms: (1) Wendy was a horrible person and (2) Vanessa and Austin were close friends.

"I'm sure that you're under some agreement that you can't give away information, but were you in contact with any of the contestants after you left the show? Did you still have any concept of what was going on?

Oh yeah, I know everything. And I stayed in touch with people. In fact, I think that I'm one of everyone's favorites. I mean, everybody likes me - I don't have any problem with anyone. The one person I don't think I like very much NOW, because I've heard so much stupid [censored] about her, and plus I think she has no business being a fashion designer, is Wendy. We're set to have a reunion show and meet up with everybody; I'm not looking forward to seeing her.

Austin calls me all the time. That was one of the other things: Austin and I, we formed an instant bond, and a really great friendship. However on the show, they don't show it at all. We were always laughing and joking. Austin is a great complement to me, I suppose - we play really well together, let's put it that way. He reads Barbara Cartland, and all the old, English, funny, fuddy-duddy - old lady-type stuff. He is an old, English woman trapped in a skinny, American gay-guy body. And he loves that. He instantly loved that about me - the fact that I'm pretty flamboyant, and I love everything that's eccentric and extravagant, and so does he. He calls me every three days, or so. I stay at his house, in New York - I mean, I'm in contact with him a lot.

I've spoken to little Starr, who got such a bad rap on the show. She's a great person, too. I mean, at least she's educated, and she's not fake."

I completely agree. When I'm looking for a designer, I'm looking for someone to trust with my image, which is very important to me. If I see someone who looks put together, confident, and individualistic, I'm going to be biased towards them even before I see sketches. But if I see someone who looks like Wendy, I'm immediately going to dismiss her. How can I trust someone to dress me who can't even take care of themselves? And it's not judging a book by its cover. If you're going to be professional, you have to look professional, end of.

You're very welcome, PaleFire76. I loved the article and thought it was great that my opinions of Wendy and Austin were both justified.
adri
kara, by far, is an excellent designer. she's so organized, professional, and consistent in her style. good luck to you, kara!
CrazyGirl
Jay, Austin, and Kara: Yes, definitely my picks to make it to the final three. No way could Wendy & Robert make it that far UNLESS the first three somehow completely sabotage themselves (which, they are far too smart for that) and that inadvertently opened the door for the other two...
FACE
Robert's comments about the women/sports car thing...
I don't think he means to imply anything about a woman's intellect or character (otherwise he wouldn't be saying it on national television). I think what he means is that he simply finds sports cars to be very visually appealing, and the same goes with women. Still, its not very wise to compare a living person to an object in any situation. Too many implications, even if theres only meant to be one. Hopefully he's learned that from his experience on this show, and in the future he'll give a little more thought to how his words may effect other people before he opens his mouth.
xactlyme
a spin off with naked robert and jay one-liners?! brilliant!
hehe.

everyone slams robert, including his fellow contestants. me thinks if they were so convinced of his lack of talent they wouldnt be attacking other aspects of his persona, like his intellect. 'robert doesnt have the intellectual heft...'
just because he isnt brooding and manipulative doesnt mean hes not bright.

the agism is pure fantasy in Wendy's world. Kevin was supposedly older (or the same age, depending on where you looked) and Kara is only 2 years younger! trust me, she is over coming nothing where that is concerned, and if i subscribed to her negativity about her age, at 44 id be getting my aarp membership in order and checking into an assisted living facility!

with only 1 or 2 stand out items, im sure Wendy is around for drama only.

i love Jay, love his designs and love his personality. remember what he said about Morgan? 'if shes still in new york, she probably said, hey, im wearing a bathing suit, lets go to miami!' i laughed out loud.

i like austin's work but his personality is just a tad affected for my taste.

on product alone, the final three should be austin, jay and kara.

I have only been watching the show for a few episodes, I have yet to see the full show from the beginning, but I think I am beginning to like Austin as my favorite designer. I personally do not know a lot about fashion but I think he is doing a great job, except on the wedding dress episode, but so far he has picked himself up rather nicely, I liked his dress last night even though some thought it was separate from the future theme. I am beginning also to like this show, it's very entertaining to watch. Was there going to be another marathon on Sunday?
verochka
I adore Jay! He is very talented and seems like a really cool person!
snlfallon
Hello everybody! Hope everyone is doing well! Wendy should have gotten the boot last night. I think Kevin is a great designer. I don't know if anyone has posted this, but I googled Kevin and his profile came up on a russian dating site. http://bride.ru/ph/htcgi/men/103/103685P1.html
There's different photos and his interests. I tried contacting him, but you have to pay to be a member of the site. I was going to tell him how much I liked his work and offer to egg Wendy's house since I also live in VA. Later! Becky
pacey988
I don't think I particularly liked Wendy either. I tended to agree with the judges on her design.
eve1978
i think wendy needs to seriously get slapped off the runway. i'd like to see austin do the slapping.
corrie
Ok, the judges didn't get it. Kevin's outfit was a uniform and was supposed to be different than the street wear. Also he had less time to finish because he was overseeing everyone else's work. But am I surprised he's gone? The whole show is about "entertainment" rather than the best designer. At the end it says that the producers, not just the judges, have a say in who wins.
k8wan
I have to say that I 100% agree with you about Austin. All of his designs seem so trite, and he just overly annoys me.
I love, love, love Jay! Beyond how funny and quirky he is, his desings have been consistently strong. Him and Kara desrve to go far, they both have incredible talent and great execution.
Why in the name of all that is holy is Wendy still here?!?! Her wedding dress was awful, looked like something from David's Bridal. I hope she is attacked by one of her horrid designs.

OMG !
I watched last night's episode; and I nearly kicked in my TV while screaming obscenities into the air !!!
How in the world is Wendy still on the show ? Her designs ( in my opinion ) are not good; let alone great; and -- more importantly --- her attitude and the conniving-backstabbing-be nice to your face only-poor me attitude -- is really grating, infuriating and just plain mean.
Do the judges have no clue as to her behaviour?
Of course; if they are even only seeing her designs.. you'ld still think she'd be "out".

I think it will be Kara, Austin and Jay), you couldn't give me a Wendy Pepper design. Does she really think the millions of viewers watching would ever want her name on their clothing label? No thanks, not me.

She has a 5yr old ?!! Personally, someone should start saving for her therapy NOW.
It makes me wonder what her family/ clients are thinking when they see how mean and conniving she is.....

I would wonder what her clients are thinking after seeing her tell austin's model how great her wedding dress looked to her face, then talking behind her back about how horrible it is. I mean, if i'm standing in her shop with one of her tacky dresses on, and I ask her if it looks good, apparently she's going to say yes, even if I do look like a hag..............
I guess I don't see the point of Wendy's continued appearance on the show, other than "entertainment" value and that characterization is dubious at best. Wouldn't it be nice to see a "reality" show that featured the real work of designers, etc., without the intrusion of "producers" who apparently believe what we want is for them to pander to the lowest common denominator.............
umniza
Just looking at the clothes the designers put up in their portfolios on this web site, I really liked Kara, Vanessa and Kevin. Wendy's was the most unappealing (even worse than Starr) - what's with all those "prom" looking dresses, if that's the best staff she's done so far, then ... I dont know... But as much as I like Kevin's staff, he was eliminated for the right reason - his dress didn't go together with the other outfits at all. Well, it was a toss up between him and Austin, but Austin's had a bit of ruggedness (or maybe Erin gave it some ruggedness?) while Kevin's was super taylored, super fitting. If it wasn't a collection, Kevin's outfit was 2nd best for me after Kara's. But as it was a collection, his was by far the most different looking. BTW, I'm surprised by Robert - loved his pants and jacket outfit on Olga - looked very cool, even better than Jay's IMHO. Wendy maybe a super b****, but she was definately better then Kevin this time just because her outfit fit with the collection. Actually I think her outfit was better then Austin's as well. For the purpose of collection, I'd rate
1. Kara
2. Robert
3. Jay
4. Wendy
5. Austin
6. Kevin
(Maaaan, I dont get why they continue picking Julia, she does not look good on runway. What are they seeing? I really want someone to explain to me. I'm not being mean, but she's got poor walk, no personality, unattractive figure ... ???? )
Peptic_Ulcer
Personally, I don't think it's the producers of the show, looking to keep Wendy, or turn it into some sort of overly dramatic reality show. Also, I don't think the judges really see everything behind the scenes. Kevin could have done a much better job justifying his design and how it fit into the theme. The judges didn't hear that, but got an earful of how he lacked leadership and is passive. I do believe if Kevin spoke up and defended his design, he would still be there. Same goes for Alexandra. She shouldn't have played up the inspiration factor, with her swim suit. If she said it was 100% her creation, it would have garnered better respect. Afterall, it's a beautiful bikini and probably would sell well in higher end boutiques. Kara's bikini wasn't really any more original, was it? It came down to the judges thinking she was creating a knock off. I still believe this show is about the designs. Also the designers do have to prove they have what it takes to be in leadership. But, that's as far as it should go and the reality show drama and backstabbing should not be part of the competition. If they plan a second season, they should learn by their mistakes.
fashionflop
I think Austin is super talented, but he's more suited to costuming for movies than runway fashion. He really does love the fru fru and pretty (I pretend his wedding dress fiasco was all a bad dream). I think he'll be in the top 3, but I think the consistent Kara will win. I hope Jay is in there, too. To answer an earlier poster's question, if I had $10K (and a model figure), I'd definitely choose Jay to design something special for me. His Chrysler Bldg dress was so stunning, it will be remembered for years. I also think that Robert is talented, but not committed enough. He could have won the Art Deco challenge with that strapless leopard/butter yellow insert dress. He just hasn't been focused these last few weeks. His swimsuit and Austin's bridal frock are tied for most heinous so far...
mztee
My money is on Kara Saun. She is by far the most talented of the designers. She consistently 'gets it' and has a great eye and sense of style which makes all of her designs aesthetically appealing, yet wearable.

My vote for the top three are Kara Saun, Austin, and Jay. I must admit Jay is the most versatile of the designers and is exceptionally skilled at designing 'out of the box' while remaining true to Jay.

Wendy is the least talented of the remaining contenders and Robert is marginally talented and limited in his design choices.

Next week, I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope the judges are sick of Wendy and boot her off the show.

How exactly have you come the conclusion that this will happen?

Here, I posted this after Alex's elimination, but in case you missed it...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I sense a pattern in the eliminations, and I am willing to predict the next people eliminated.

The pattern has to do with the Project Runway bars at the top of the page. There are 5 random bars, where 4 contain images of 3 contestants and Heidi with that ugly hairdo. The groups are:

Group 1: Daniel, Vanessa, Kevin
Group 2: Mario, Nora, Jay
Group 3: Kara, Alexandra, Starr
Group 4: Robert, Wendy, Austin

The first contestant eliminated was Daniel in Group 1. Next was Mario in Group 2. Next was Starr in Group 3. Then it was Vanessa in Group 1, followed by Nora in Group 2 and Alexandra in Group 3. This leaves one contestant in each of the first 3 groups (in linear fashion as well), and all 3 contestants in Group 4.

As I see it, there are three predictions I can make at this point:

Prediction 1: Kevin goes next week, followed by Jay (NOOOOOO!) and Kara (nooo!). The Final Three at Fashion Week are Austin (yes!), Wendy (YAY!), and Robert (blah!)

Prediction 2: The pattern is topsy-turvied and the next 3 eliminateds are all the Group 4'ers. This means Kara, Jay, and Kevin are the Final 3, which does make more sense to me.

Prediction 3: It's all just a crazy coincidence, and the next eliminations have nothing to do with the pattern.

Also, is it wrong to be a straight, fashion-challenged, math-major frat boy and still watch this show? I hope not.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And as we have seen, Prediction 2 is not possible anymore. So to all you Wendy-haters out there, hope for Prediction 3.

Yeah, I think that makes sense... Kevin is not an entertainer. And I think he did a great job going through everybody's designs so often. He did definitely risk high (and lost) because of the simplicity of his uniform. And he didn't mention much the "uniform" on the runway, again. He should hire somebody to do the talking for him.

Btw, somebody mentionned earlier that he showcases at NY Fashion week ? That's great ! So he found sponsors. I was thinking he's there because of being the the 3 last, but I was so wrong... Kevin was my favorite, I'm going to miss him a lot. I was looking forward to what he would do next.

And now, I can say "I Hate Wendy", too. I try to stay away from such emotions to a reality show, but now, no, sorry, I hate Wendy. She should have gone. And also Robert, just because he doesn't bring much as a designer - Nora, and even Alexandra, were much better. It seems clear now that the 3 last will be Austin, Jay and Kara. If they're not, then I don't watch anymore !!!!

Anyway, I think Kara and Jay's outfits were great yesterday ! I'm so sad I'm not 5 feet 10 tall !

Thanks for the info. You are lucky to have him as a pal. Now if I could just find that 10K to get him to make me a dress...lol.

I agree. That's why Starr was such a mystery, since she seemed to dress pretty well and looked good in her clothes.

So here's my 2 cents on how PR will play out...

The longer you watch this show, the more you see how contrived it is and how much impact the producers had in the decisions. Every good drama needs a villain, so they're keeping Wendy as long as possible (and editing her scenes appropriately). Robert is the eye candy for the target market of the show...young straight women and gay men.

My prediction...they'll keep Wendy on as a long as possible without making the show look like a total sham. So next week Robert will finally go. Then Wendy will follow the week after, leaving the most talented of the remaining five...Kara, Jay and Austin...to duke it out.

As for the winner, since this is sponsored by BR...I'd be really surprised if Kara doesn't win. Her stuff looks great but is still accessible. Jay's awesome but a little too edgy (for BR). And as other people have said, Austin's a little too costumey (for BR).

That's my take...a bit of a cynic when it comes to "reality" tv.

I agree . . . although, I really want Wendzilla off the show next week . . . retroactive would be even better!

I think there was going to be another marathon on 2/13/05 when Bravo will re-air all 9 episodes. Can't wait!
