wow, everybody seems to be so worked up over Wendy! I think that is exactly what the producers were going for with her though. I seriously think that most of the things Wendy says or does are scripted to give the show a little more drama. I mean, think about it... if she were *really* that cunning and manipulative, would she be that open about it when she knows that there are millions of potential clients watching her on national television? I doubt it. I have a hard time buying it. Shes too stereotype disney cartoon villian to be serious. After the show she'll probably invite the whole cast over for tea and crumpets and everyone will have a big group hug and a good laugh!

Isn't it better to have it posted in it's entire context than to have someone say "hey I read something ......" and throw out misinformation? And I do think it means that Jay doesn't make it to the final three, how could he be set up in his own space and potentially do an internship with Banana Republic at the same time?

I agree that Austin is a great designer. I have enjoyed watching the show mainly to see what he and Kara come up with. I think they are both wonderful and in the end it is going to be a tough decision for the judges, and i wish them both the best. As for Whinny Wendy, i cant wait to see her eliminated, she is such a [expletive deleted] and i feel she should have been gone this last episode, not only for being a backstabber, but because her design sucked. It had no protection at all, it was falling apart, and i agree that it did look like something that a cat threw up! Where Kevins design may not have been as good as the rest of the groups, it still was better than Wendys and did offer a bit more protection from the elemants. Wake up judges, get rid of that [expletive deleted].

I don't know about his ever being a manlyman, but in the rock 'n roll episode he harped a bit about how he was convinced the rock singer (don't remember her name) "wanted" him. Couldn't tell for sure if he was amused by the ridiculousness of her interest, or if he was implying that he would consider swinging that way in the interest of business - or pleasure for that matter!.

You gotta be kidding. That was a self-serving comment. You really think she was keen on "drama" coming from Morgan considering what Kevin had experienced? That was such a self-serving comment. She "took one for the team"? In what way? No one else had to work with Morgan that week and none of the other designers would be forced to pick her in the future.
lk
I have a great dislike for Wendy, I think she's on the wrong show if backstabbing and conniving is her main focus, but I don't think she's evil. I know she didn't pick Morgan because she's tragic and would bog her down in her work, but I'm glad she did it no matter what her reason because it got rid of that mess.

Actually, yeah, a piece of Austin's corn husk dress fell of on the runway. It's just another example of how little time they have to get the garments done. They're all very thorough and wouldn't make such risky decisions if they were given appropriate time.

I also think maybe she was trying to impress him, by expressing her adoration for his designs, though it was a wrong move and not very well thought-out. One of those things I believe she came up with right there on the spot, "Hey, it kinda looks like Kors' last year suit... maybe I'll cite him and get some brownie points!"
Unfortunately for her, if that was her strategy, it failed because Kors had been replaced by Mr. Page 6 for that competition. And Kors would have been very quick to call her on presuming to "bribe" him for his vote. How presumptious and insulting. But irrelevant, as he wasn't there.

Sorry about that. What I meant was, I was trying to make sure no one put an actual spoiler on the board, not the thing about Jay. I think Jay will make it to the final three just because he's one of the best designers and he will do well at fashion week.

This same article came up on the Television Without Pity board for PR, and it was blacked out. Apparently the TWOP board monitors are more vigilant than those here at Bravo.
There is definitely an online protocol about posting spoilers. Posters should make every effort to warn other readers so they don't have to read it unless they want to. This is not something new.
Whether it is true or not, it was dealt out to us readers without such warnings or disclaimers about its truth, and completely blindsided us. I still don't want to know, either way. So please observe the internet protocol of only posting spoilers if you seriously arm the info with warnings.
Thanks.

Jay's was OK. I didin't find it such a big deal like the judges thought, and I thought it looked just a bit out of proportion, but it wasn't horrible. I didn't like the socks, I agree he should have made those socks, but could have executed them better than they looked. The whole top peice was great...except the arm coverings. I thought they could have also been executed more greatly. It wasn't as horrible as he thought it was, but still fit in with the collection better than Austin's.

I think the short dress he made for the future is very good - and considering what he had to work with. He mixed patches of different fabrics in it and still made it cohesive which isn't easy to do. And the leggings enhances the look too (are you referring to leggings as socks too?) I love how the leggings is all tight but then flares and sag at the heels - and the way the leggings is two toned with shimmering brown at the top and lower portion is olive color is pretty cool. It blends with the earth tone colors of the dress too. The whole look meets the deconstruction, futuristic challenge, while still looking wearable for a trendy club. Jay's sense of style is hip and innovative. Maybe you don't get his style - since you said earlier Wendy is your favorite of the designers - and her style is basic and not that creative - and she is certainly not as talented as Jay.

I ask again, why do people like Wendy?
Wendy. I certainly do not defend her, nor do I in any way “like” or approve her behavior, but I simply do not have the type of visceral response to her that many on these boards seem to. I do not “HATE” her. And I find some of the excesses of Wendy-bashing on the boards unreasonable (are they plants?), uninteresting and a bit distasteful.
This is for several reasons:
1. As I said in a previous post, her machinations are so artless (and ineffectual) that I find them more amusing than truly evil; they seem born more of insecurity than true malice or hatred. I found R. Johnson’s behavior much more disturbing than anything Wendy has done. Has Wendy ever been able to truly undermine another designer? To ruin their design, discredit them in the eyes of the judges? She discredits herself! And that directly into the camera!
2. She has so obviously been cast as the series "villain" for entertainment value (to manipulate the emotions of the viewer) -- even in her audition tape it’s obvious she is already being caricatured, and that she knows it. They take the audience to be so young and naive that they go so far as to paint her a “witch” face and hair to get the message to us, for goodness sake! It's a wonder they don't put a big wart on her! How could I buy deeply into such silly manipulation? She’s not even very good at the role!
3. As another poster astutely recognized, many of the comments about Wendy on these boards are FAR more malicious, vicious and hate-based than anything she’s said or done on the show...
4. .. And speaking of hypocrisy, Wendy is doing what other designers are also doing, albeit in a more open and ham-handed way lacking any charm or sophistication. Many of them have taken shots behind others’ backs or otherwise descended into cattiness or immaturity or hypocrisy or manipulation. This is very human; the situation is stressful and highly competitive and in fact DESIGNED to create this kind of thing. Quite frankly I'm happy it isn’t much worse – it's relatively mild and that’s part of what I like about the show.
5. Many of the comments hating on Wendy have to do with her age and physical appearance. I think this reflects superficiality in thinking and a tremendous double standard. I’m far more interested in the substance than the form.
6. I disagree with the many posters who say she has NO TALENT. She has shown talent, albeit not at the level of the best on the show, but better than some. Her candy outfit, though deficient in many ways, showed real creativity, or at least a creative ambition. Rather than going with shower curtains or pantyhose, a less risky (though more practical) gambit, she dared to try to meet the challenge at its heart, which was innovation. I thought her bathing suit was nice: it played up the model’s assets to a T, fit beautifully, and attempted to be a party dress, unlike Robert’s. Her BR dress was chic, polished and perfectly responsive to the challenge. She's been a cooperative team member.
7. Finally, Wendy is a human being, living, with a heart, family, feelings.. not a caricature. Some people seem to have forgotten it.
For me Wendy’s worst moment (as I can remember) was in Ep 7 when she smirked when Kevin got dinged, I thought that was really distasteful moment; however it may have been a reaction to the tension in the situation.
It did look like the judges set Wendy up on the runway, at least the way the scene was edited and shown. First she gets this really really harsh comment from Anne (fur ball)–stated so strongly its bound to instantly terrify her -- then they immediately ask her about Kevin’s leadership. Like, let’s put her on the defensive and see if she’ll turn on Kevin to try to save herself. And she did.

Hi everybody…long time listener…first time caller.
But in all seriousness, I have really enjoyed reading all-ya-all’s posts. But I would like to add my two-yen in.
- I have to say how much I love this show. This is honestly the first reality show I have ever watched…and I could not imagine anything could be better. Kudos to Bravo.
- I have to admit…I am not the most well versed person in fashion. I have always been under the misguided idea that fashion was a statement about one’s individualism and view. So please, keep the flaming low concerning my next statement. So the question has been asked, why do people like Wendy, choptt really seemed to express eloquently how I viewed Wendy…But, for me personally, at the beginning of this show…I really liked Wendy...I felt that I understood what she was trying to convey in her designs. And to boot, I found her background to be engaging so much so that I wanted her to at least get a shot. But wow, did she really disappoint me this past week on a personal level. (I am one of those naïve persons who feels that obtaining what you want is not worth it if it is tainted with poor form…and idealist I suppose). Never the less, I know most of the things we see on this show are more than contrived…but to seemingly sell out Kevin is such a way…it was just incredibly disappointing imho. But, in a way, I still like her (not enough to route for her any longer) but because what strikes as most amusing concerning Wendy is that it is she who has really prompted me to post here for the first time…and when looking at this, and other message board concerning Project Runway, anything ‘Wendy’ is by far the most popular topic of posting…for good or for bad (mostly bad), Wendy has become the hot topic of discussion…and it seems that the nearly universal disdain for Wendy is what makes her most popular. I do have to agree with several other posters that I feel some of the Wendy bashing is a bit extreme and superficial. I mean for some of you, it is like “tell us how you really feel”.
-Well, now that I have in all seriousness lost respect for Wendy, I have to say that my hope for the final three are naturally Kara, Jay (they both are just brilliant imho)….and I guess Austin. I know that a lot of people see Austin as a god among designers…but personally I find his designs a bit too theatrical for my taste…but that is just me. I really would have liked to see more from Kevin and especially Vanessa. I really miss Vanessa. I think her comment on what she lacked in sewing skills was less scandalous as some of designs that have made the cut. Btw, does Vanessa have a web site? Pass it along if you could.
So…there…my two-yen…spend them how ever you like

Based on what I have seen Kara is going to win the show: beautiful designs and great leadership potential. Austin will be in second place, followed by Jay. Both Austin and Jay, I am sure, will land designer jobs because both are extremely talented.

I believe it was pointed out that at least 3 outfits did not fit the collection: Austin's bullfighting audrey hepburn dress did not sit well in the collection nor did he show any versatility he stays in the same vein (froo froo) but he didn't get kicked out! Leadership was not the core criteria of the challenge if it was then only the leader could have been eliminated - FITTING IN was the challenge and at least 3 people could have been on the block - Kevin's being the leader only compounded his situation BECAUSE OF THE ATTACK - had he not been attacked I think Wendy or Austin would have bit the dust. It was obvious that Wendy doesn't work well with others although the others didn't point this out - she stood out all on her own at least to one of the judges. She was criticized not as part of a plot or setup, she was criticized because that outfit was lame. No matter what fell out or off that dress its a habitual thing with Wendy that her items are just not finished - if you ignored it it is because you wanted to not because it shouldn't have meant anything. Austin could have easily lost here also. As far as fitting in goes...Wendy's did not fit in at all IMHO and it lacked creativity, imagination instead of justifying her chewed up ball o' yarn she turned the knife, while this makes for good tv you reap what you "sew" LOL and not just the smirk but the way she kept going at Kevin's back and her degrading comments about and to the other designers make her a target. If she designed as well as she plotted, her designs would keep her in the competition not her mouth. Reality shows all have one thing in common, just like everybody in the world - they all have one "a" hole.

i should say "consistently fall off or appear to be unfinished" the judges also continue to point to Wendy's laziness although they somewhat paraphrase - if they all dropped one thing a piece it still doesn't add up to dropping something twice and not finishing things...

I fully, wholeheartedly agree. Wendy is not particularly nice, but the venom about her that is spewed here is far, far worse. The violent intensity of the hatred that some of you have for her -- fantasies of her being slapped and, now, run over by a truck -- are repulsive. Sure, Wendy is obnoxious, but the reaction here is all out of proportion to her actual offenses.

Wendy wasn't the only person who critiqued Kevin's leadership ability, albeit she was the only one that was so adamant about it.
Like someone stated earlier, it was edited, or at the very least Wendy was set up to attack Kevin's leadership. They attacked her design and belittled her ability to design for the future, and then they say, tell us about Kevin's leadership. She pauses, and then she goes in for the kill. The thing about it is that the whole group was fractured, but she is the only one who stepped out from the group.
Jay said earlier that he thought Kevin's leadership and the entire dynamic was poor, but they would all go into the runway and pretend that it was better than it was.
When they asked Kara about his leadership and if she approved, she was much more diplomatic than Wendy and never said she disliked it, she just said, I can't remember exactly, but I do remember that she did say in a more polite way that his design abilities out weigh his leadership potential. She even said to the camera, the first rule of a leader is never let anyone come in and take over your leadership. She did that. She came in and took over the group. She pointed out that this was a flaw in Kevin's leadership ability.
Kevin was ousted because his design least fit with the group. Sure his leadership abilities are in question, but as for leaders, really only Kara and Jay seem to possess the ability to lead. Jay's leadership showed during the rock and roll episode, and Kara lead during the collection.
She didn't endorse his leadership abilities, but she didn't persecute him like Wendy either, but again, Wendy was attacked.
I agree with many of you, she clearly is a caricature. But why you would allow them to paint you that way, or participate in the show in that manages to make you look like a villian. Wendy should have said, just let my designs speak for themselves. Her current persona, whether true or not, is something that she must now face as she tries to navigate the design world.
The top designers really are Kara and Jay...while Austin is fabulous, he needs to step out of his comfort zone.
As for Jay being cute, I agree he is a cutie, Robert is a stud, but when it comes to personality, Jay's got one, and that makes him much more attractive.

I'm new here. Amazed by all the hatred. Wendy is a fine person. We all love her in this town where she lives. There is no Virginia accent from her because there is no stereotype accent in Virginia---we vary tremendously from north to south. Middleburg is in the north---1 hour from DC--the most international area in the USA. There is no true accent here.
Bravo was in our town approx one month ago filming Wendy so all you Wendy haters might be in for a big disappointment...the rumor is she is in the final three!!! She is also hosting a party at the community center next Wednesday 2/9 to make money for the Tsunamai victims...she's really nice.
So please...a little less drama and hostility. You are really showing the stereotype of the "artsy" crowd.

Yes, some people are passionate about their dislike of Wendy. I think what it boils down to is that they like Vanessa, Nora, Alexandra, and Kevin more than Wendy but Wendy hasn't been cut yet and maybe she should have by now (the producers are doing a good job of creating some conflict!) My feeling is that Wendy is not a very gracious person but I think that the images that they show are making her look more shrill than she probably really is.
My gut feeling is that Wendy will not make the top three; if she did, the show, judges, etc would lose a lot of credibility since it appears that Wendy does not have what it takes to be a designer in NYC (note that Kevin is already a designer in New York.)
This is the only reality show that I've ever really watched. It seems like on other reality shows everyone b1tches about everyone else and there is a lot of backstabbing and quien es mas macho crap. I like PR because I don't see these contestants falling into that bs and they seem very supportive of one another. So, the producers see that Wendy seems a bit self serving and they play that up. I don't think that it is working for them because I think people tune into the show because they, like me, like to see the creative process and the end result.

Wow - a bit nasty there, don't you think ? I'm sure several people read that item in the Daily News and it would have made it to the boards eventually. Isn't it better to have it posted in it's entire context than to have someone say "hey I read something ......" and throw out misinformation? And I do think it means that Jay doesn't make it to the final three, how could he be set up in his own space and potentially do an internship with Banana Republic at the same time?
I think everybody's missing something about the quote. first of all, if you read what the woman said she REALLY said, there is no indication that Jay is involved at all.
THis lady can say whatever she wants about wanting to help him because she likes his style. The quote she attributes to herself (which I would give more credence to, especially since she SPELLS HIS NAME CORRECTLY, as the gossip columnist failed to do) doesn't say a durn thing about how he's been "treated" by project runway.....
I didn't get the impression from her website that she had even met the man.
Additionally, an internship at a design house does not mean you can't set up your own shop or even work on your own line.
if it's an internship, it's not a regular position. i doubt there would be any contractural restrictions placed on a person in that position, since the stated point of this show is to launch a designer.

i wonder if jay could b e swayed or persuaded somehow to be with a woman....i can imagine jay without the long hair with his big build playing football and being a manly man.
Oh, my.
Well, if Jay is gay, it's not something that involves persuasion. he's just gay.
i don't think it is something you change your mind about....

If wendy is a fine person, she certainly hides it well.
it is interesting to me that all the other contestants on the show seem to have something to say about her actions toward them. I don't think they're making that up, and you can't attribute their comments to "editing."
Additionally, i think many of the objections to wendy posted on this board have to do with her lack of skill, style and talent. we've seen her website, we don't like her clothes.
if she is in the final three, good luck to her in presuading enough clients to purchase her line.
if this board is any indication, there aren't too many regular viewers who are going to run out and buy a Wendy Pepper Original................

funny how judgemental you are of what others have to say
I don't think that it's out of line to say that you don't want to hang out with people who advocate killing (or otherwise performing acts of violence against) a person they don't like on a TV show. But I guess I'm being judgmental too.

Little as I like Wendy, I'd rather hang out with her than with some of you.
yawn.
people who take themselves too seriously sure bore me.
I don't know that too many people on this board would WANT to hang out with someone whose panties are in a perpetual knot.......
i think most of the people on this board are having a good time.
i think people who can't understand that need to lighten up, unclench, and find a hobby.

meow. Don't believe everything you read/see in the media. They distort things all the time. You will understand when you grow up.

You know what? I don't mind being judgemental of hatred and violent fantasies. It is my judgement that hatred and violence are bad, and I'm sad that so much of it is in evidence here. Obviously, I'm in a minority in that regard, since most of you seem to enjoy upping the ante for each other, to see who can come up with the best insult or most extreme comment about Wendy. There's a group of you here that practically forms an online lynch mob. In fact, a mob mentality is very strongly in evidence: one person shouts an insult, others pick up the call, and pretty soon everyone has lost critical judgement and is trying to out-do the others in hatred. Go ahead: flame me too. I know you want to.
One last comment, while I'm laying it all out. I was particularly saddened by the Wendy-hit-by-a-truck post. My impression was that this was a gentle person, even though I disagreed with her often in matters of taste. Apparently, I was wrong, as that was not a gentle comment.

LOL!!!
This is pretty funny.
Not that it is any of your business, honey, but I'm older than Wendy. (in more ways than one!!)
I worked as a designer for many years. So i think i might know what i'm talking about when I say wendy lacks talent in the design area.
but that's really irrelevant.
if people want to express their opinions on this board, and their opinions are that somebody isn't any good, they certainly have a right to do that without having to worry about the "thought police" giving them a hard time about thinking what they think.
but thanks for the laugh!!
you're a hoot!

Too much of wasted time on Wendy. If you want to discuss someone with ambition and negative vibes, talk about Joan Crawford and some of her movie roles. She much more an interesting character than Wendy. Why don't we raise the standards.

On the flip side, one could say that people who take television shows too seriously--to the extent that they develop such extreme emotions toward people that they have never met--have their panties in a knot in quite a different way. And without a really good reason. At least there's a solid argument against not perpetuating violence and hatred.
What happened to the good old fashion attitude of just mildly disliking something?

Hey I think your crazy/funny too and Guess what....I'm older than Wendy too!!!
I like her designs---she has quite alot of private clients here....but I must say Wash DC is not the fashion capital of the world....we like "normal" clothes that regular people wear....not green wedding dresses. We are the ulimate Banana Republic people in Virginia:)
I think Kara should win. But just to let you know, from someone who knows Wendy, she is nice not mean spirited like the message board suggests.

I am sure you have a fondness for Wendy, since you are from Virginia. I am from VA too but she is playing this like she is on Survivor. She is constantly looking for a weakness in someone else. What does that tell you? It tells me that she doesn't have enough confidence in herself to make it on her own. She may be a fabulous designer in her own right but she has not met the challenges very well at all. She didn't even finish the bathing suit challenge. This show is not about someone else's weakness, it is about YOUR strengths.

Me three!
Wendy's attitude, mouth, etc. makes for a bit more drama . . . not as good as Omarosa . . . but, she lends color to the show
I wish the Loreal folks would get their hands on her hair and make up and help her soften her appearance . . . I think she could look much better than she does . . . As far as her design skills, she's mediocre at best and has survived this long because the judges have found more shortcomings with someone else's design . . . and whatever the producers have interjected as far as who stays and who goes.
I would really like to see the other designers still in the game . . . mostly for more designs.
I'm looking forward to this evening's episode . . . and just like last week, I hope Wendy's out at the end.
