I do agree with some of what you are saying. Wendy and espacilly Starr, do need more sewing exprience as well as how to conduct yourself as a buisness person,in general. Wendy did not go up and talk to anyone at the silent auction, and Starr can not explain her design in a manner that would make people want to bid on her dress. I also agree with you on Heidi Klum. I don't understand why she is the host either. She may be a model but that does she really know about the technique and design process of making the clothes?
On the other hand, I LOVE Vanessa. She is amazing. I could care less if she is british. And I wouldn't mind is she won.

I like Robert, a lot, i mean everything about him, i liked it when he was chatting with Austin, and he had the clay mask on, oh daddy give me some.I hope he don't turn to be gay, that would be a turn off. He is very talented i like his style, am sorry for mario and daniel, they seem to me that they want to show the world they're work, but they didn't put all of them in the competition. They always, assuring that they would pass the test, and didn't do the best.
Poor starr, sometimes i ask myself, why she decide to become a fashion designer, i just can help it, but to feel sorry for her.I think she is twice the lawyer, than the designer she is. Her style, it could be well fit on halloween.
My other favorite is Austin, he got potential, i think he is going to be on the final, and who knows maybe he'll win. Good luck!
I think is Jay, the little chubby guy, he is good, i really agree with his design, but still he can do better.
Wendy, that woman, she said it herself, she is trying to be the "mom", and that's what she is going to be, but doesn't secure her victory.
The others runway, i do like them, but haven't show yet, why they want to be a famous, or become the designer of big star, cause you know, how big star, glamour, and ego is, they need to do a better job. Have more imagination.
Well i think that's is, and don't hate me please.

....are you tired of the stereotype of the homosexual male fashion designer
I'm tired of the stereotype of rednecks shouting out loud on internet forums. So typical, so predictable.
Why can't you judge the contestants by their works? What does nationality/sexuality have to do with their clothes? It's clearly stated at the end of the show that all the contestants were met with the eligibility.
Also, we do not know anything about Austin's sexual orientation and I'm personally not interested in it either. This show is about FASHION DESIGN, if you didn't realize it.
I live in NYC therefore I have a few gay friends, and they are all bigger than me - and I'm not a bone. So time to re-educate yourself about stereotypes you have.
It seems you suppose that Austin is gay (well, as a stereotyped straight male I honestly got the same impression, which is a shame), but that doesn't mean the other 11 are straight. You don't know and you don't need to know - in other words, not your business.
And, say, if they're straight: It doesn't bother you that this show is showing a majority (11 out of 12) of stereotyped heterosexual? But it bothers you that 1 of the 12 is homosexual? And obviously it also bothers you that 1 of the 12 has a British accent. How *athetic.
Quote:
I think Kara, Vanessa, and a few of the others can blow him out the water....what do you think?
Shouldn't it say "I hope ... blow him out the water"? Again, it's *athetic that you repeatedly try to get an approval on your lame hatred towards others, shamelessly.

Hey filthy lesson, you called Jay "hate-spewing". It seems to me that you are filled with much more hate than he has displayed. It really sounds like you're just jealous. Why don't you take your own advice and stay above the fray. All of these personal attacks on the designers is getting out of hand.

I also think it was a mistake for him to pull his model aside during the Episode 1 cocktail party to get her measurements and then brush Tim aside in the design studio the next day. Ya gotta be pleasant to higher-ups and mix and mingle a LOT to make it in the fashion industry!
Trixie, I thought the same thing about Daniel's brush-off of Tim, and it made me wonder whether or not the judges get to see tape of the designers' behavior in the workshop, or if their only exposure to the designers is in the runway segments. And, of course, it's a small world in an industry like this, so chances are good that Daniel's thoughtless behavior would come back to bite him in the keester down the road (Tim is after all a big-wig at the design school hosting the competition, is he not? It's not just who you know, it's how you treat who you know!)

Alexandra did the stockings and sock dress, I thought it was a good idea, but I didn't really care for the dress. But you know what they say, to each his or her own!!!!

Just wanted to throw my $0.02 in... Starr happens to be a friend of mine and said that her actual response to the question they asked was "I had no doubt about my concept. I can sell anything."
The producers are portraying her in the neophyte designer typecast -- giving her true personality a short shrift in favor of a portrayal of insecurity and weakness. Granted she was a nervous wreck the first episode, I don't think that they tapings have shown her confidence and poise.

Some of these designers have talent like Austin, Nora and Alexandra. I do not like Wendy from day 1. It seems like this is her only chance to make it so she is trying every way to win but she doesn't really have a lotof talent compared to all the other designers. She also is such a back stabber and you can see in the show how she looks her others weakness & trys to use it as an advantage to her instead of focusing on her own designs. Yes fashion is very competetive but c'mon that is just low.

I felt very bad for him tonight but he's still very cute and responded well, and at least he knew that it wasn't going to be received very well from the judges.

Crazy Wendy has a scheme going here. Anyone else in on that? All of a sudden she's all professional after she's played "ragged designer" for the first two challenges.
Anyway, Jay's design was great! I've seen some of his work before and I've never seen him make such a tailored and sophisticated piece!!! Well done!! Fabulous job Jay!!

Jay's dress was a Wow. Not sure how wearable or saleable, but real pretty.
I don't feel too sorry for Star, because she's way off the mark. She finished last this week (and deservedly so) with a dress that she said was her proudest design.
Robert just had an off week. He'll get back on track. One of the tuff things about this competition is that you get one shot at a concept. No adjusting, no re-thinking - if your first instinct doesn't fly, you're in trouble.
Austin is clearly the slickest, most professional and most talented. The judges called him a little too vintage this week (and typically). My fear is that he may lean toward the theatrical because of his job. To me this weeks dress looked finished and perfect - casual, earthy, festive, ladylike and still sexy. Achieved all the objectives.
I didn't get the winner's dress. Looked too simple. That cape had to go. Made her look like Morticia or Vampira.

I didn't care much for Jay earlier, and his graffiti outfit was a little odd, but he totally nailed the party dress challenge. One of the judges called the bodice "exquisite," and I totally agree. Makes me want to start a starvation diet so maybe I can buy one of his designs some time soon! Chrysler Building dress rocked!

I think Nora would have scored much higher if she'd done the dress in any other color. Robert's tricky dye job (pin striped zoot suit thing) and Austin's Cruella DeVille tie-dyed dress looked like they involved more work and trickery. I did love Nora's design, though. Think she's in the top 3...

Oh my goodness...how could I not make the connection? Austin looks EXACTLY like Hermie the Dentist in Rudolph. That is just too funny. I think he is a very talented designer, and although his cabbage rose party dress took some heat, I thought it was just beautiful. Maybe better for an afternoon tea with Shabby Chic's Rachel Ashwell, though...

Today was my first time watching the show and in regards to Austin's dress, all I can say is WOW! I absolutely loved it! I have never bought anything from Banana Republic in my life (and to be honest I'm not sure I could see Austin's dress in their collection as the styles are so different) but I am so sad his dress did not win as I absolutely would have gone out and bought it. Does anyone know what will happen to the one that he made?

I'm a little over Wendy's fossil routine, too. Kara and Wendy are pretty close in age, and the one guy whose name I forget is 44. Wendy needs to spend more time and attention on designing than worrying about what everyone else is doing, what they have that she doesn't, etc. I think she and Starr might opt to form a support group. I don't mean to sound mean, but both have some serious self-esteem issues that have no place being bared in front of millions of people on reality tv. Side note: I love that PR is unpredictable. Always fun!

Wow is that black lady (forgive me im bad with names) blinded by wendy. I knew since the begining that wendy is a bad person. I honestly do not agree with her designing, i think she is horrible for this contest, i cant believe she won this week. I am honestly or was a Mario fan, jay, austin and i really do like the black girls talent and maybe the punkish girl, but for WENDY TO WIN??? COME ON NOW... remember when she said she gets to know people and then uses them against them to manipulate them in the washing room? yeah, i know she is doing that with the producers or judges... ewwww wtf is going on here?

I was so relieved to see Starr booted this evening... This entire time I have firmly believed that she has been holding a space that both of those eliminated before her could have been holding. I am concerned now, because I do think that everyone that is still in competition is competent and each week will be more and more shocking and disappointing to see someone eliminated.
I find Robert to be my favorite of the designers, although I was disappointed with his production this week. I hope that he doesn't fall into this hole again!
This is such an extraordinary show. I relate to it wholeheartedly, as I am an architecture student who faces the exact same challenges and crits each semester. Project Runway has brought a refreshing facade to reality TV for me, and I eagerly await the unfolding of this season.
My favorites, but by no means a suggestion of who's best:
1 - Robert: he's hot, his designs are hot, what else could there be??!?!
2 - Alexandra: so close to being mentionable by the judges
3 - Jay: big hot [expletive deleted]
4 - Nora: hot little [expletive deleted]
5 - Kara: class, just class... helping Wendy made me cry!
6 - Wendy: she's slowly gonna get there, but geez, I think we've all heard her "tactic" way too much
7 - Vanessa: like what I've seen, but don't know what to expect, exstatic to see her drunk
8 - Austin: so theatrical with the BR idea, afraid he won't depart from it, LOVE some corn dress, chill the gloss and puckered lips! we know you're gay blahblahblah
9 - Kevin: the BR submission was a refresher from him, but a general snoozer

How the HELL did Wendy win? I was so excited being a huge Banana Republic customer. I have had a Banana Luxe card for the past three years and Banana is basically my mothership. Wendy's dress is so austere and I don't think it's flattering on most women except stick figure models. It does not highlight woman's curves at all!! It's for charity and I still refuse to buy it. BLECH. So plain, so ordinary. I love Austin's dress! I want his dress! It's so feminine and romantic! I love his style. From the beginning I knew just with the corn husk dress that he has an extraordinary vision on what "beautiful" exemplified in women's clothing. I was so horrified to see that he was crying in the promos for next week! How can they slam him and make him cry like that! The man is a genius!

Well bye,bye Starr. She was in over her head next to the other designers. LOVE this show. Love Robert....he's a hottie and a helluva good designer....except for tonight. What was he thinking??? Ew! Light blue with leopard print?! Austin is going to go far. He is so talented. LOVED his dress.....very Southern belle...but not Banana Republic. Surprised that Wendy won...she struck out with two of her designs...this win feels like an accident. I liked Jay's dress with the detailed pleats, straight lines, tailored look. I just love a finely tailored outfit.
Can't wait until next episode.

The real Wednesday moment you’ve all been waiting for – Annie McFashion’s rankings!
Once again, I nearly, totally disagree with the judges on the rankings except for one thing – thank GOD Star is gone. Poor thing – she has zero skill. I’m not sure what she thinks art deco is either (reminds me of Princess Bride when Andre the Giant tells Vizzini, the kidnapper, that he’s not sure Vizzini knows what “inconceivable” means). I knew she was not going to make it as soon as she said she shops at Banana Republic a lot. She should have taken some courses in art and art history like the other obvious students of art have. It does make a difference.
Ok – moving on. I have to preface my rankings today saying that I think a lot of the designs may have been a little too sexy for their own good. This challenge was a bit strange, because I thought it was a call for all of them to reel themselves in a bit and think mainstream, middle America – what will non-models wear. Then again, BR is the big sponsor and the prize is to work with them so – I don’t know. Anyway:
1. Jay – hands down. He did EVERYTHING they asked. It was art deco, it was party, it was holiday – it had no flaws and maybe the judges did a little drinking the night before themselves. BR is fooling themselves if they think their young customer, and their very trendy lines, wouldn’t have benefited from Jay’s dress. Better yet, that it would sell less than Wendy’s – his dress would have sold in droves. And it did not look that far off from things I’ve seen in there.
2. Vanessa - And a very close second she was. It was classic – very thirties red carpet – very sexy. It’s only flaw was that it was too upscale for BR. And maybe too sexy for mainstream – everyone cannot wear a neckline that low or a split that high, but it was absolutely gorgeous. She is becoming my favorite.
3. Austin – though it was more fifties than twenties or thirties, it was exquisite. Beautiful tailoring, lovely design, very different, and fresh. I disagreed that it was too vintage – it was a party dress in the literal sense.
I have a problem ranking the next three because they all tied in my opinion. But…
4. Nora – she succeeded in doing something a bit different, yet still fulfilled art deco. The skirt just wasn’t the best to complement the work she did on the top. That’s the only reason I rank her below Austin.
5. Kara – she followed the directions, it may have been just a wee bit oversimplified. I think if the skirt had been longer, she may have impressed the judges a bit more. I liked that she used an unusual color, but she needed a just a touch more of the innovation that Nora and Jay used.
And now a sidetrack to say what a lovely gesture to try and help Wendy. That was really nice and totally selfless. I’m glad Wendy got back on track and focused on her work. At least I hope that’s what’s going on. It would be bad to find out if Wendy does some backstabbing later. All I can say is, Kara did a good thing – kudos to her.
6. Alexandra – she followed it to the letter, I just didn’t like the skirt, its hem or hemline. If she had gone a little longer and flowy, it might have matched her top better as a true thirties art deco piece. I thought it was a bit disingenuous of Michael Kors to complain about the slip dress being overdone, and then award Wendy. (I'm sorry Michael I still think you're a genius and one of my favorite designers of all time!) And am I understanding she was in the bottom three? The only reason I can think of is the dress not falling like it should have.
7. Kevin – I loved his dress, I just don’t know how art deco it was. He put a bit of a modern spin on it – they were all really close this week – and I thought he did an excellent job – much more impressive than designs past – just not matching up work-wise or style-wise to what the others did. The next shows are going to be incredibly tough to judge I’m sure.
8. Wendy – She followed directions. I was unmoved by it except to say what an improvement from the last 2 shows. She did NOT deserve to win however. It was not innovative or fresh, had no hard work to it – very basic - and it looked more JC Penney than BR. I am glad she stepped up her game though. This was right up her alley because of what she was designing before she came to this competition. She won’t win the whole shebang, but what a big deal to win this week's challenge! She’ll get work and be ok after all.
9. Robert what happened!! He must have drawn a blank. I’m glad he made it though. I know he’s better than that - he should have just tried to stay classic.
And I've stayed away from chiming in w/ his other admirers but DAYUM he is hot.
10. Star.
I cannot wait for next week! They really know how to show teasers that make you want even more. Next week looks drama-ridden! I hope they don’t do something silly like kick Austin off. What could make him cry like that? And after this week of Kara seeming so sensitive, what has she done that has everyone hating her? Well – it all seems quite exciting. I’m already gonna call Jay as the winner of next week – rock and roll?? For Jay - piece of cake. Rock and roll baby!

My apologies for not responding sooner--I was out of town, however, I do know Wendy. I modeled for her a while back and must say that the show doesn't do an accurate job of portraying her at all--or her talent. The dresses I wore of hers were nothing short of stunning and she was absolutely wonderful, a real pleasure to work with! I think it's important to remember that we are only seeing a small snipet of these people and what we see is edited and spliced for maximum effect, not to mention that this is only the third episode (and the first one they had to use food!) and to believe that we have any kind of real understanding of any of their design styles or capabilities seems a bit pre-mature.
Anyway, I apologize for not stating my relationship to Wendy sooner, but I do think she is a very talented designer and that PR is in no way her last chance or only shot.

Wendy and Jay both really showed their artistry in this last episode, don't you think? Really beautiful and complete work. Of course I think Austin's work is amazing. Just love seeing what these folks come up with.

Flaming or not, there is real talent in the obviously gay men in this competition. And real talent everywhere, male and female, or they wouldn't have made it into the beginning competition. It is wonderful to see the talent overshadow the sexual stereotype, though. Always a delight!

I don'y really know why everyone's so surprised. Wendy's design was classic this time, and I loved that - not to mention the difference between the candy bikini and the breakfast at tiffany's party dress.
You people are putting way too much stock in these designers personality based on a reality TV show, edited to exaggerate characters, conflicts, drama and the like. Wendy is a great designer, not to mention a lot of fun!
Chill people, enjoy!!!

You have to admit that Wendy's design is completely marketable and black, just the perfect look for the season or anytime and so saleable. Her adding the cape to go with the current Banana Republic line was genius! I was shocked to see such a beautifully fashioned piece from her. She is definitely not my favorite person. But this was her week. Not the best of all the dresses, but the most marketable and splendid at that!

Wasn't Robert magnificent in embracing Star as she knew she was the loser? That was touching. He has a good soul, don't you think?
However, he was so distracted trying to create this episode's design and that nearly got him booted. You know he had a lower score than Star?
I know that Austin's gay persona is a little dramatic, but he does have the goods. He is a craftsman in his work! His makeup and hairstyle are certainly shades of Boy George or even Michael Jackson, toned down, but he is a talent. Does he remind you of Carson of the Fab Five? Not as rambunctious and nearly obnoxious, that role is played by Jay, but certainly the body carriage, and yet all serious when it comes to the competition at hand, just as Carson is when he seriously advises the Straight Guy in each of the Fab Five makeovers.

What a great show! I absolutely hope not to miss a single episode. And I think the designers are fascinating, no matter what I might feel about them personally.
I have found Wendy both irritating and powerful. She obviously finally showed her talent best in the this third episode and I am thrilled for her. There's nothing to be said against her dress being marketable. Darling.
Starr has irritated me most of all. She is so on the brink of collapse. And she is obviously a bright woman to have achieved status as a corporate attorney. I hope she doesn't pout and look so woeful, which seems highly unprofessional, in a court room setting. The girl is almost anorexic in appearance. I hope once this show was over that she got on with her life and found some way to be creative and practice her trade.
Jay is so flaming and proud of it, yet so very skilled and talented. That deco design of architecture is terrific and the fit was devine. So much work! What a coup to pull that off in so little time.
I must admit that I think that Kara, Kevin, Alexandra all had lovely dresses. And I love Austin's design and the completed product he gets for each episode. There is such romance in his work, a la Bob Mackie, perhaps. Definitely vintage, but not bad at all.
These are such talented people. I love watching them work. It would be fun to see all the footage.
It fascinated me to see the horseplay between Jay and Robert and then Nora and Kara. That is so like creative folks with whom I have worked. Once in a while such horseplay is a great release. Bless the hearts of those who are on edge and don't want the distraction, however. I know how that is, also.
I can hardly wait to see the rest of the episodes and find out who won.
This is a great series.

I completely agree. I am so tired of the homosexual stereotype. I am not so sick of it from designers as I am from stylist and fashion commentaters. KOJO comes to mind and most of the Queer EYE crew. I think it is sick that the commentators tell women what they are wearing is bad when THEY are usually notorious for wearing ridiculous clothes. you cannot deny the talent of mizrahi or valentino though.
On a vulgar note: I have a weakness for sex with straight designers because it seems they have a talent for putting you on a pedestal (fashion wise) they can still be jerks

I think the men on Queer Eye have fake personalities. I think Austin is real. I think that he just IS a devo and not playing into a stereotype of what America is comfortable for a gay man to be. I totally related to how he felt about his first challenge. As a designer, I love him.
Robert I would buy from just in hopes I could get close to him. I think he is mediocre compared to the others, but I think he will turn out to be a celebrity designer.

Amazing that Starr was not kicked off earlier. Never mind her obvious lack of skill, the girl simply had NO STYLE. Moving on: Wendy's design did fulfill the assignment, but showed no creativity. The cape couldn't have been more on trend - but maybe early fall trend, not holiday. And since when did the judges totally ignore fit? The capelet had an incredibly acwkward drape - not chic at all. Alexandra's was definitely nice - and I can totally see it at Banana. Jay's was absolutely gorgeous. I was impressed that he stepped up to "play the game" and create something outside of his aesthetic - that's the sign of a professional. The dress was exquisitely constructed, creative, and beautiful. I would love to wear it! The only reason could think that he didn't win is that it would be expensive to produce for a Banana price point. But hands down, Jay's was the best.

http://www.killthebird.com/mt/blog/archive...ves/001162.htmli think the guy/gal who runs that site (http://www.killthebird.com/blog) knows rob because there were a bunch of pix of rob on his earlier photoalbums which have subsequently been removed. <gasp!>
i wish i saved them but there were pix of rob dancing on a table at some club and some other really funny and really drunken pix.
enjoy.

I am so disgusted that Wendy won. She didn't "design" anything. That dress was even more boring and conventional than what they normally sell at BR. I love this show, and I think it's extremely innovative, but the triumph of the crassest form of commercialism last night over art, innovation, and beauty was just depressing. I understand that the show needed a lot of financial support, but they should not have sold their souls to Banana Republic. I buy most of my clothing there, but it is NOT high fashion by any means.

I completely disagree about Wendy's dress being beautiful. It's a piece of simplistic crap. Banana Republic obviously picked the design that would be by far the cheapest and easiest to reproduce in a limited edition of 200. You may say that that was the assignment, but BR could have made some kind of effort to think about design and talent, rather than what would be cheapest. It seems to completely go against the whole point of the show. There were other dresses that would have probably been more appealing to customers out of sheer beauty, but they lost simply because Wendy's was so f-ing easy to produce.

I thought that Wendy's dress was classic but trite. I think I saw that dress in Banana Republic before. I really loved Kara's dress I would have definitely purchased it if she had won the competition, but maybe in a different color. So far Kara is my favorite but I also love Austin. I saw him on 5th and 50th right by the Banana at Rockefeller Plaza. He looks so made up.

Yeah, I've seen that dress at BR about 12 times before. And at every other store that sells non-fashion.

Although I love many of the design from last night's Banana Republic Challenge episode, I am completely enamored with Jay's "Chrysler" dress. Although I guessed that it wouldn't be chosen as the winner (because it would be too labor-intensive to manufacture in large numbers), I was hoping that it would win nonetheless so I would be able to purchase it.
Does anyone know how I might be able to buy this dress? Any hints/advice are greatly appreciated!!!

"Starr...I hope she doesn't pout and look so woeful, which seems highly unprofessional, in a court room setting."
Having worked with her I don't think this show accurately portrays her. Then again this was a new an obviously 'unfamiliar environment' for her. Some folks here at the firm she used to work in remember her as 'snooty and very standoffish', especially to support staff. I was surprised to see her even cry on the show as she always tried to 'keep it together' and looked like she could handle anything. Others giggle about her bridesmaid dresses that she designed which were hideous. I don't understand how her true friends allowed her to embarass herself on a show like this. Her taste is very gothic and vintage and in the world of fashion, you have to go with the latest trends. Her sense of taste is apparently in her mouth and none of her former collegues have said that they would purchase any of the items that she designed.
I am surprised she didn't 'get a clue' within the first 2 episodes and design something more wearable and elegant. She is very competitive as a lawyer, but I think her parents did her a huge favor by trying to dissuade her from pursuing this fashion thing as a career. She would surely be a starving designer had she tried to go into this field instead.

Thank you!! It is crap! I don't even think it's flattering unless you're a skeleton with no hips and no boobs!
Nora's dress would have been the best winner, it draped beautifully on the body and would flatter most body types...plus it seemed very comfortable and had more flourish and took more effort to construct than Wendy's piece of crap. Plus Banana is offering the dress practically at $200.00 which is way too overpriced for such a simplistic dress. I don't believe the cape is being sold in stores and the cape is actually the best part of the ensemble. I still feel that Austin had the most stunning dress. The cut was so flattering, the draping of the dress was perfect and flouncy skirt and luxurious print and feel of the fabric just makes you feel so incredibly feminine and sexy at the same time! I totally disagree with the judges! It was not vintage looking at all! Just look at the latest Oscar de la Renta stuff? He has incredibly "girly" glamour gowns inspired from old hollywood and big star icons like Sarah Jessica Parker wear those dresses constantly! The judges totally made a huge mistake on this one!

....you don't know what you're talking about....the stereotype of the Mexican gardener or the Black mammy is no different than the stereotype of the gay fashion designer....I've been through art and fashion school...I know how people are stereotyped there....with my brown skin it would be hard to be a redneck.....think before you lash out next time.....peace
