Finally saw Ep 8 last night. Kara's design was off the charts. Totally responsive to the challenge: layers, function, comfort, fits all bodies, etc...I can't believe she made in 1 day
-a fur lined vest
-fur-trimmed hat
-cute little navy hoodie w/ 2 pockets and logo
-drawstring pants w/ stripe
-equipment belt, and
-turtleneck sweater (?)
and had it all pulled together with a postal bag and looking fab in the same amount of time it took Wendy and Robert to make a shirt and shorts/pants! This girl is SERIOUSLY talented and deserves to win. If the post office really produced that outfit people would be stealing it like the surgical scrubs.
If she's eliminated based on one bad design I will lose all respect for this show.

As far as Wendy's appearance - - what has that got to do with anything??
I remember Edith Head.
holy cow.
I don't think that edith head and wendy have anything in common other than gender. but whatever.
i think people talk about wendy's appearance because a designer's personal style can sometime give you an idea if they will have any ability in helping you look good.
i mean, i'm not going to let a guy with a stupid-looking haircut touch my head, you know?
whther you feel that way or not, many people believe that is a valid viewpoint.

You're right. I was not as clear as I could've been.
>www.imagewire.com> click Olympus Fashion Week Fall 2005 - Runway icon> Look to the left hand column where it says "Celebrities">>you will notice three of the designer's names (one name is just the last name) and one is no where to be found.
www.newyorkmetro.com>>> Find "Fashion Week" under "Shopping & Fashion" drop down menu>> scroll down to the end of the pictures under "What's Hot" to the link "All New Fall 2005 Shows" and click on it>>> scroll to the link "Project Runway Designers" click on it>> click on the the model's photo>> up comes all the collections EXCEPT one. The same designer's collection is missing as the name from the celebrities on the imagewire.com site.
Hope that helps.
this is correct, from my viewing of it.
there are 40 outfits on new york metro, and none of them are that designer's......

Uh-huh - - - - so you know what Edith Head looked like - - and her looks give you an idea of the wonderful gowns she designed - - and the wonderful period pieces she designed????
Hardly think so.
As with Wendy - - - this is not about her looks - - but about her designs. From her looks you would never have thought she would have designed and entered a see-through blouse.

What, did editors put friggin' little microphones in there and say all that crap via remote? YOU SAID IT YOURSELF! Now you're wondering why you're loathed so much? Unbelieveable!
lol Mr. Bear, you're gonna give yourself a heart attack one of these days.
i think wendy needs some professional counseling.
there are terms for people who are unable to accept responsibility for their own actions.
my favorite comment of hers was that "for whatever reason, some people just don't like me."
that had me howling.....................
Like I said, Wendy is delusional. Although editing may have played a huge part in her on-screen caricature of herself, editing did not make her call the other designers pseudo-intellectual yahoos, or make her admit to camera that she was applying strategy (in lieu of talent) to claw her way to the end. How can someone be a delusional anthropologist?
And that comment about being a mom who doesn't want to go to clubs. Speak for yourself, Wendy! You're giving urban, hip moms a bad, dowdy name!

I copied and pasted the wire image address, saw that Kara Saun's name did not appear in the "celebrities" so I typed her name in the "search" box and saw all her fashions that were presented at the show. They are gorgeous. So that means Austin, Wendy, Jay and Kara all appeared during New York Fashion Week. What does it all mean? I can't wait till Wednesday!!

I have to agree with you unless it's a way to trick us. But if it is true, I wouldn't watch show again. It would just tell me it's fixed. Plus if it is true, we won't see that collection aired ever. Only the three. That would truly show how much this show would be about ratings, fixing the results, not really wanting to find good designer's to test their skills. Bravo could make up for it by showing that particular designer's collection.
but you know what?
Bravo never shows us enough of the clothes!
They spend so much time on the blah blah blah that we don't get to see the finished products except on the runway, and half of the camera time is given to the designer's face or the judge writing on a card.
even the photos are the web sometimes make it impossible to catch all the detail in the garments.
I wish they would show us a collection, that would be great!
It would be really great if they took the focus off stupid Wendy so we can see the creative process of design at work.

I think a previous post said they only had 3 hours! That seems a bit too little time, but nonetheless, 3 hours or 1 day, that is an incredible amount of designing/sewing to do. Doesn't talent like this deserve more airtime? How did Kara Saun do it? Wouldn't that be way more interesting to watch instead of lame-a** Wendy's clothes which look like a**?

I didn't think that wendy's looked so great...bad retro 60's or some frumpy frock. But also in the previews Kara talks about how Wendy took material from a roll she was working from and says something like "people who sabatage other people's projects don't have confidence in their own talent." Makes me wonder if she had to scrap her work because of Wendy.

You said it, Sassy! That's the kind of honesty that is so eloquently put. A lot of people think that Wendy is so honest, when she hasn't been honest to her fellow designers. I'm glad Kara Saun had the courage to say something ON-CAMERA to WENDY, instead of dancing around her, and she said it so well. Take that, Wendy!

I think the three hours came from when Tim said, "You have from nine until midnight" but I'm almost positive it was 9 am to midnight because it was light out as they walked to Parson's. So that would make it 15 hours... still very short to make all the things listed.

Tim said start at 9, end at 12 and I assumed 9 a.m to midnight.
Yes, I'd like them to show more of the design process and also more in-depth analysis of the designers work, including more of the judges' deliberations and more commentary from Tim! Most viewers probably know little about design and would find it very interesting.

Agree about honesty. Kara did put it well. If Wendy did mess up Kara's project, she should be out on that alone. Wendy has done so much vindictive stuff to others, like in the previews where she states "how she loves to see people squirm, they can sit there all day." then she cries foul and plays victim when she has to squirm because her true colors showed.

You are so right! And she calls herself an anthropologist (from the citizenet.com article). What the hell kind of anthropologist manipulates the situation to study human behavior, or doesn't see how her own presence affects the behavior of others? She's like a loser anthropologist. And, I get the feeling that she thinks she's smarter than all the other designers because she "sees through their psychobabble" (future vintage episode). Well, she can't be that smart if she can't see her own responsibility for her own actions. (I'm also coming to this view because of what Wendy says on her own website as well as the citizenet.com article).

Sorry Austin fans, I love him too, but I really think he, Robert AND Wendy deserved the ax on this challenge.
I would scream and run the other direction if I saw my post-woman coming at me in that cape and hat duo. Martinique's expression told the whole story: "I feel SILLY, very SILLY!" Was Austin rebelling against last week's bullfighter comment by creating a Zorro outfit? At any moment I thought she was gonna whip out a sword!
And the capris with headband! I'm sure that in Austin's world all postal service employees should look like Gidget (Marlo Thomas..Sandra Dee...Doris Day...) but I seriously believe there would be a strike if you tried to make the typical (35-50 yr old?; size 14,16,18,20,22,24?) post woman walk around in skin tight capris and a sleeveless shirt. Does cellulite exist in the world of Austin? Not to mention how HOT that headband would be and how it would look on short hair, gray hair, etc.
Zorro meets Sandra Dee.
Totally unresponsive to the challenge.

Having said that, at least Austin's had some flair and visual interest and was amusing (so very Austin!). (Unlike Wendy's-- not a design at all! A tweak of the existing uniform!)
I think the Austin modeling thing was a set up. Why?
1. Models have contracts, especially with TV shows where thousands of dollars of development costs are riding on them being there at a given moment.
2. Even if they do not, or are deathly ill, it is hard to believe that a MAJOR TV show would be unable to find a model anywhere on 24 hours notice, especially a TV show with a super-model host, a major designer judge, a whole team of models with agencies, etc. These people would be immensely well-connected in the modeling world and should be able to get 20 models in the door on a moments notice.
Silly ploy but such a howl! Best episode yet.

i guess i should weigh in on the wendy issue...though i've obtrusively avoided the discussion up to this point due to my own feelings about mass media and the manipulation of the public for ratings and drama...hmmmm...wendy...maybe she's a plant...maybe its all for drama....maybe she's as venomous in real life as she is on the show....maybe all of it is true...maybe none of it is true....as far as her designs...i've come to believe that the producers knew exactly who was to be elimanated before each dress ever made the runway...so debating her design quality is mute at this point....her attitude?...yeah...i'll bite...she's portrayed as a very underhanded competitor...of course...what else could one expect from cable tv....i hope she's not one of the top three....only because i cannot completely seperate myself from the image the tv inflicts upon me....as far as her family...leave them out of it...that's nothing but fluff...and it could potentially hurt people in the REAL world....i suppose that's all i have to say about that....(in case anyone is worried about me being out of character.....KEVIN..I'M STILL WAITING...YOU'RE BIGGEST FAN....BUT NOT IN THE KATHY BATES MISERY SENSE....YOU ROCK!!!)

I love Kevin too. I miss him. He would have done great. His clothes are so elegant, classic and sexy. Wendy however, was her first design even a proper garment? Even Daniel's looked a WHOLE lot better. And her swimsuit wasn't exactly swimsuity as it didn't have the thong and it just looked like a dress of some sort. I hope Jay wins. I think he's the toned down version of Alexander McQueen or John Galliano.

I can bet that Wendy did the drawing herself just to get the sympathy that she was looking for. She realized that the others have her figured out and wanted to get back with them, with the "someone drew on my ugly kids picture." To hell with the talent less [expletive deleted]. The cameras were following the designers and if someone went over to Wendy's station and did that they would have been seen. If the folks at BR choose that "Wierdy" to work with their team then they have a shyt storm coming.

A lot of posters have been asking about the four designers versus the three finalist positions avaiable, and it looks like a little confusion is going on. A few pages back, there was reference to the Project Runway segment of Fashion Week. At that time, Heidi Klum greeted everyone and made some sort of statement in which she stated that one of the four designers was a decoy so as not to tip off the show's final outcome of the three finalists. I guess Bravo was aware of the timing problem during the season's taping. When the finale is aired (Feb. 23rd?), I think only the three finalists will be aired. One (And I think there is a growing consensus that it's Austin, based on the clues), will have had, at least, the chance to have a free debut, if not a shot at the 100K.
Hope that sheds some light on the designers' status.....

P.S. If Bravo wants to play up that shock formula, lets say
Austin is really Wendy's love child and Austin gives up his chance for the big fashion show, so that his mom at age 39 will have her big chance. And that is why he gets eliminated in the final episode and becomes the decoy. What a tear jerker.
New theory about technical support.... For sympathy ratings, the technical support in this upcoming episode is Wendy's daughter. This gesture would reinforce family values. It would be great for a sympathy act and would give back that competitive edge to Wendy, since she lost some of it after the seeing the mustache on her daughter's photo. ( I didn't need to see that mustache scene) Remember Nikki's little boy giving her a rose after her competition in the first American Idol. What a formula! Mommy Dearest a la Joan Crawford style on Project Runway.
The reason why there is so much Wendy talk is because there are less designs and designers each week. Give us back all twelve designers and we can talk more about fashion.
I bet fashion guru Tim buys Wendy's daughter ice cream for the filming of this episode.
