I have even visited Wendy's (not a fan in the least but curiosity killed the cat, and there was definitely an abundance of things the cat coughed up in that veiwing) I am particularly interested in Kara, Austin and Jay (I believe they are the final 3 but tonight will tell) Please share if you have any sites?

Been thinking, wonder how much the designer's had to spend on their collections or was it unlimited. If it was a limited budget, Kara to me is suspect. Leather, furs, silk can be very expensive. just a thought. makes you think there may be a surprise coming we weren't anticipating.

Which designer was it that got a spot on the front of his dress and covered it with a brooch? You aren't harping on that - - but you would be if it had been Wendy that did it.

As I said earlier - looking only at Photos - I did not like Austin's collection - but found some of Wendy's stuff OK. BUT - in photos you don't see fabric detail - real colors - unique stitching and assembly/construction - etc.
After reading this article Austin's collection makes a whole lot more sense - and it specifically notes his perfect construction.
BUT - - another article I read said they liked Wendy's collection. I am not going to attack her personna in connection with her designing skills.
They are 2 separate things.

Say Austin is eliminated tomorrow night...that would mean he wasn't one of the three finalists to make a line for fashion week as the very last challenge. Wouldn't this also mean he wasn't provided with any of the resources the three actual finalists would have been provided with (i.e. fabric, money...) and wouldn't this therefore explain why he may have had some old pieces displayed and in his defense, would have had much less to work with??
There's strong speculation that if he is the one who is eliminated that he used a ready-made collection from his portfolio. This would make sense and would explain why some feel his work at FW was not as strong. With time comes experience and he has grown some, as have they all, through this show.
Oh my, that make so much sense! Just go back and look at Austin's portfolio pieces on this website here--don't they all look rather similar??? Hmmmm....Intriguing.

yeah, robio had a stain on the front of a dress he had, I believe, a total of 12 hours to construct for a challenge on PR.
wendy's garment was falling apart on a runway at New York Fashion Week.
What a waste of a great opportunity.
i find wendy's presence on the show offensive because it is clearly not due to her ability in the fashion arena.
I believe there are real designers, who have skill, training and talent, who are sitting at their house right now because she's still on.
it's clear that wendy is only there for shock value, drama quotient, whatever.
wendy's dangling zipper doesn't have anything to do with her personna.
it has to do with a lack of professionalism and skill.
it's just one more example, to me, of why she shouldn't be where she is.............

I think of Austin as a winner no matter what.
I hope you're right that exposure will help his career. But I worry about him. My experience in working with artistic types is that they can make bad business decisions and can surround themselves with destructive people. I hope he hires a good management team. He certainly has the talent and charisma to make it if he has good advisors and support.
My wife and I are interested in investing in him financially if he gets it together. We can't do the 100K like the grand prize, but we could do a decent amount.
Sound crazy? Anyone else interested? Wouldn't it be great if fans provided the financial backing to get Austin going?
If anyone has management contact info for Austin, please send it to me through a PM. Thanks.

Wendy bashing is way too easy............
But so much damn fun.
Hey, after she makes it to fashion week, I'm going to have a long friggin' laugh, in reaction to what's sure to be oratorical fireworks coming from Jay, Austin, and Kara--I cannot WAIT. The shock, the horror....nothing we've expressed will rival their responses, no doubt.
And Wendy will be forever notorious, mission accomplished. She can join the ranks of Tonya Harding or whatnot....The list of Frenzied Female Competitors. (The FFC)....
Thoughts?

Did Kara Saun actually SAY that her collection was inspired by the Aviator, or did a reporter from MSN analogize the collection to the film? I mean, I read the reviews of her collection which used the word "fly-girl" & I just figured that Kara went back to the same military look that she used for the Envy challenge.
I like the whole Miramax conspiracy theory, but I'm wondering if Kara's collection wasn't in fact inspired by her years as an Air Force brat & not the film.
Excellent points!
If she did say that she was inspired by the movie, then maybe she had already designed this collection and thought about it being an homage to the Miramax film after the film became so popular. She does work in the industry and you do have to kiss butt sometimes no matter how much integrity you have because your main goal is to continue working.

Actually, the lack of finish and polish was common for *W* during the series and was frequently noted by the judges. (FWIW, I don't know how ANY of the designers presented polished garments on the runway with those crazy time constraints!)
As for *W*'s collection, I think we hold her to the same standard as the other *W*. When the other *W* says something vaguely stupid, we just accept it because he's an aw-shucks guy. So when he doesn't slobber all over himself in a debate, he's a genius. Same with Wendy. Just because she put a collection on the runway that has some nice, "wearable" pieces, she's suddenly worthy of competing with the other 3? I personally do not think so.

Agree as Austin is a winner no matter what and not because of his designing abilities. What he did for Jay was great. Shows his heart.
Your premise is interesting. But may I ask if someone has a management contact why one would go through you and not just contact him? If that is too personal, understand. Could be you want to look out for his best interests.
Think you and your wife are generous and kind. Your posts have been well-written and thoughtful. Good reading.

Mass Art is almost right next to the MFA on Huntington Ave., across from Wentworth, etc.
I'm not really that young, I'm doing my second bachelor's, just turned 31 - so I'm not into the drinking/partying thing any more, and I live in an apartment, though I do like a lot of the people I've met at school. There are a lot of talented people there, and it's quite challenging. The school has an amazing holiday sale and probably a spring sale (I think, not sure) of work from current and past students - you might check it out. There's a great exhibit at the MFA right now if you like super postmodern installation art.

Austin is fabulous- he looks eerily like my gay high school friend, Joseph, so I have a soft spot for him(it was the 80's, though, so he's much much too young to BE him)- add to that his classic and classy designs and I think, yes, he is a winner no matter what.
Kara should win the fashion week thing, though, as she's got the construction, flair AND calm attitude down pat.
Wendy? I try not to say too much about people/things I don't like. One word: Frumpalina! Okay- another word- Janus-faced. And that's all I'm gonna say about her!
Jay's designs are pretty good- I liked his bathing suit- but his personal fashion sense is...senseless? He could be a cutie pie if he'd move away from the 70's.

Wendy's seems very tacky to me, Kara Saun's looks very nice, I'm not sure about Jay's as far as a Grammy outfit, Austin's looks very nice. I'm sorry, I'm a guy, I'm not a very good judge of fashion, when I'm shopping, I am just looking for a nice looking pair of clothes, and I am one of the many hoping that Austin doesn't get eliminated tonight. From what I have seen and read on the board he could do very well as a designer, hopefully, this will be his big break regardless of whether or not he wins, and hopefully he will be noticed by someone. That's all I have to say.
