hey jj! I agree with you about Robert! They need to show him more and preferably shirtless! Have you looked at The Designers section? They have a little interview with him, as well as the other designers.
skatina
Robert is NOT gay. i read an article about the show in an online gay newspaper that mentioned which designers on the show are gay, and Robert was not one of them.....also, i'm pretty sure he speaks russian. (the only way I can tell is because I'm from russia and i can usually pinpoint other russian speaking people. he has a russian sounding name and he has just the slightest hint of an accent)
skatina
if you look at wendy's photo(s) on this site, she looks ridiculous!!! she looks like a parrot and has the tackiest makeup on. i wonder if she did it herself. i can't imagine a professional painting someone's face with hideous blue eyeshadow, pink circles on her cheeks, and pepto-bismol-colored lipstick. ewww!!!! i thought she had better taste!!!!

He said he married, moved to Russia for 3 years, divorced and came back here (or came back here and divorced). I should hope he learned Russian living over there that long! And yes, he is very attractive in a hot-model kind of way. But if I were to pick one to date, it would be Kevin. He's cute and in his late 30's/early 40's (or wherever they place him this week).

Either Austin is crying because his designed attire received a bad remark from the judges or (if you've seen the most recent preview)it may be about the "huge" change in the game. I doubt that the change is anything as dramatic as they want to portray it, just because they always seem to manipulate the previews so they are perceived as much more dazzling than the actual episode turns out to be. But you never know, it could be a twist so spectacular that it causes Austin to sob.
triana
my favorites are robert, kevin, nora, and austin

kara and jay interest me as well

star was getting on my nerves thank the judges for eliminating her

How much eye make-up can one guy wear? Joan collins would say "ENOUGH"

First time poster, multi-time rerun watcher.tongue.gif

Anyways, I loved the first 3 episodes! I was sad to see Daniel and Mario go because I felt like they were sending the cute boys home.tongue.gif I was glad to see Starr go based on her designs....as a person, I was sad to see her go because she was a little pixie cutie. And is it just me or is it odd that she's in a cutthroat business such as law, yet she took all the criticism on the show hard?

I despise Wendy right now. She can't seem to figure out who she is....She talks a big game about being a strategist and exploiting what people say and do, yet she has been THE biggest whiner and complainer on the show. And what was that whole episode with her and Vanessa in the laundry room? I thought she acted really pathetic there.

I adore Jay and Austin. Jay is a cutie and Austin has great vision. I've loved all his designs!

Favorite Design (so far): Austin's "Envy" dress
Least Favorite Design (so far): Starr's "Envy" dress (cancer? umm...ick. and is it me or did Audrey even look sick in that dress?)

Dream Top Three:
1)Jay (Jesus!)
2)Austin (Oh my!)
3)I don't have a definite third decided yet, but at this point I would love to see either Robert, Nora, or Kevin up there.
AgJu
This is how everyone ranks with me so far:

1)Jay- Jay, Jay, Jay....where do I start? He's so cute, he's got style and sass leaking out of his ears (that white fur coat get-up? Gorgeous!)...he's had the best one liners in the whole show, with the best one being "I didn't take the b***h's dye, that's for sho!" and I also liked it when he said, "I'm not a liar or a stealer, but I wanna be one, and I wanna play one on TV!" He knows he's on TV and he's just turning on the sass! I have fallen for Jay! I like his designs too. He just keeps getting better! His first dress was "eh," his Envy outfit was edgy and cool, and his third dress was just stunning! He was able to eke out a dress that fit the theme, look great and "completely complete," and not compromise who he is. All I can say about Jay is: More!biggrin.gif

2)Austin- As far as I'm concerned, he's the best designer there. His first dress was the best cross section of Innovation, unique material, good execution, and keeping a wearable "Night On The Town" quality. I am just in awe of his Envy dress! The slinky, dark beauty....the fluid, slithering walk and baby face w/ attitude of Martinique...it became more than a dress and became a vision for me....I ADORE it! And, once again, I don't know what the judges were talking about with his third dress...I thought his rose dress was just stunning! And he already said up front that he was going for a sort of daytime, party dress, so you can't fault him for false advertising or anything. love ya, Austin! *kiss kiss*.wink.gif

3)Robert- Actually, with me, Robert and Nora are kind of on equal footing, but Robert edges out Nora because...well...he's the sexy one. He's so gorgeous and infectious, but he is infectious while being himself and not by building himself up like Daniel. I just love everey second that I get to look at Robert's beautiful face. Now....his designs. His first dress was disappointing and boring, his Envy outfit was a little safe, and his third dress was a mess of conflicting concepts. Still, as far as people/personalities go, he's right up there for me.

4)Nora- I have fallen for Nora. She is so cute, she has a lovely, goofy personality, a great sense of style, and some great designs! Her first dress was innovative right down to the choice of material (a lawn chair and place mats? way to think outside the box!). I don't know what the judges were thinking about, attacking her Envy dress. Brevity is the soul of wit (or however that saying goes) and I thought her Envy concept was subtle and well realized. It was complete and looked great. And it wasn't a cancer dress. Her third dress was just another feather in her bandana.wink.gif

5)Kevin- I love Kevin. He's really cute in an offbeat way and I have been charmed by him. I adore him. However, he's a ghost on the show. It's like, "Wait, was that Kevin?" and there he goes. Except for the Missing Dye and the Starr's Not Subtle! incidents, he hasn't gotten much screentime, but like I said with Kara, so what? He's been very professional and had some solid designs. I thought his first dress was cute with the big bow, but didn't think it was very "Night On The Town"-ish. I liked his Envy dress, but didn't feel he conveyed Envy very well. I thought his third dress was fabulous and can't wait to see more Kevin as the numbers thin.

6)Mario- Mario's another cutie pie, but with a bit of a darker, more blase' side and I loved it. I thought his first dress was very elegant and I loved (and still love) his Envy dress....but I do agree that he didn't challenge himself enough. Still, I wanna see more Mario!

7)Kara- I kinda feel like she's walking one path with her designs....sort of like Alexandra, but Kara is showing more variety and creativity. I've loved all of her outfits, particularly the first one. I'm glad she won the second challenge, although I still like Austin's Envy dress the best. She is very poised and professional and like Tim has posted, her great ability is how she is able to stand back and be objective about her work. Maybe she's too safe and professional? She hasn't made for great TV yet, but who cares? She is a strong contender and a lovely woman.

8)Vanessa- I disliked Vanessa for some reason in the beginning, but she's grown on me.smile.gif I loved her first dress and thought it showed innovation and was kinda wearable. I was initially put off by her choice for the second dress, but I think it has a sort of noble quality to it(accentuating beauty in pregnancy) and I now love it. Her third dress didn't jump out at me the same way as her first two, but she is showing variety and she has a fun personality. I like her.smile.gif

9)Daniel- Daniel is soooo cute! However, it was like Jay said...."Hi, I'm going back to LA!" in response to how quickly he got ejected. I didn't mind that Daniel was bouncing around and talking his game, although that could've gotten really annoying if he was doing it episode aftr episode....In the first episode, when it came to the judging and displaying of the dress, he kept going on and on about the jacket and what he did for the jacket, but a woman can't wear just a jacket on the town (or she'll get arrested!). It's like, he was so jazzed about what he was doing with the jacket that he forgot to put the same effort into the dress. If he had, then yeah he definitely would've stayed (seeing as how Starr made it, but "just barely").

10)Alexandra- Who? She might be higher on my list if she could get some more airtime and we could get to know her. As for her designs, nothing's really grabbed me so far. I kinda thought her Envy and BR dress looked a little similar...not "the same", but similar. I did like her first outfit.

11)Starr- yeah, she's a little cutie, but it seemed like every bit of her time on the show was spent on the verge of tears. She could not take the criticism well or recognize that her output may not look as good in real life as it does in her head. The first dress, though I did like it, was just a cornucopia of "let's see how much stuff we can pile on here." I absolutely HATE her "cancer dress." An icky green color with veins and tumors on it....Gag! Her BR dress was more costume-y and just not fitting with the theme there. If how much I liked someone was based solely on design, she would easily be last just for the cancer dress alone, but since it's not, she ranks just above Wendy. Really mousy, a bit wimpy, and horrid designs.

12)Wendy- I despise this double life she's leading on the show. Strategist? Or ball of insecurity? As for her designs...I liked the colorful look of the candy bikini and the material she used, but the theme was "innovation" AND "evening wear." Maybe it would've worked for "Carnivale", but it just bombed there. The back of her second dress was sticking out like a scoop or basket or whatever (I'm not a fashion expert so I can't comment on the technical side of things) and I didn't like that. Plus, those threads of material were just dragging on the floor. *shakes head* I did love her Banana R. dress and was proud of how she was able to sell it to the judges. Still, she ranks last for me.
melodyharmonius
Okay - I've been reading and reading - and no one else seems to have this opinion - but I'm really getting a bad vibe about Kevin.

He was very nasty about the dye to Jay and others - he said snippy comments about Starr's dress (okay, I know, she was eliminated but he was catty) and yet when she got eliminated you saw him on the outer edge of the group trying to get in on the hug - awkwardly. Not like he was really, sorry - but more like he was trying to get in the camera shot.

He's been under the radar - and I've read that he's shy and all that - but I think something is up there.

I'm not Kevin bashing - but its been this enescapable feeling and no one else is mentioning it.

My favorites:
Jay and Austin!

Jay:
Jay is so talented! His designs are detailed and spirited. He has amazing vision and he has NEVER taken the easy way out on any of the challenges. I can't say that what he creates is my style, but it is very "next".

Austin:
Another man with an eye for detail. Unlike Jay's designs, I would absolutely wear Austin's creations. I'm a retro gal and I love Austin's vintage inspired designs. I also find him humble and like-able, unlike some of the other contestants.

As for the other posts...I believe the designers have diverse talents and styles. I feel these qualities are what landed them on the show. I think BRAVO will give each of them their moment in the spot-light with quirky challanges.

I can't wait to see what happens next - this is the best "reality" show on TV.

"Bravo" BRAVO!
Joanne
Well my fav without a doubt is vanessa!! her designs r fab and her personality is soooo sweet and bubbly!!!

Go VANESSA !!!!!!!

I dislike Kevin...but for another reason. He's been in the "safe" group every week so far...and I haven't always been able to see why. I didn't like his first dress, I didn't "get" his envy dress, and I thought his Banana Republic dress was very boring (not to mention the hat was too much and covered the model's face). I mean, he's certainly talented, and I'm sure he's happy that he's not been in the three worst category yet...but he also hasn't been in the three best group. Fashion is not about mediocrity; it's about getting noticed. Good or bad, you need to stand out from the crowd and Kevin just hasn't so far (Mario is more memorable than him, because what he did was so "shocking."). Again, I'm not saying he's bad, because he's not; I'm just pointing out that he has yet to lean one way or another, and that makes me shy away from liking him.

See, I don't agree. About the dye, he was asking Jay if he knew where the dye was, but Jay kept trying to brush him off and walked away. Of course Kevin's gonna be a little suspicious. After Wendy found it, he did apologize to Jay. As far as Starr's BR dress, he said it's not so subtle. I don't see that as catty.

Let's agree to disagree.smile.gif

Well think about it this way...he could've been fourth from the bottom each time and could bottom out soon.

Well, with the numbers thinning, it's gonna harder to just sink into the background. Let's start a crusade against them!>:o

I don't really see either of them winning anyway....well, maybe Vanessa.

Your observation isn't too far off. I have no beef with Kevin, but I do know him in real life. Therefore I can attest some of your comments on Kevin.

He's generally a nice guy, but something about him is very negative. My encounters with him always sort of left a bad taste in my mouth because he always came off whining and blaming others. Talented? yes. Ambitious? very. Pleasant? I am afraid not. Flaky? somewhat. He's just not a very sensible person and I cracked up when he commented on Nora and Kara goofing around on the 3rd episode as "childish"--he should talk.

By the way, he's actually 37 but he told me 'I always tell poeple I am 44'. I was fooled by his age thing when I just met him.

That tells you a littel bit of his personality.

Well, Im glad many people love this show. Now as far as favorite designers go..Ausin would have to be my favorite. I do like Jay though, more of a Heatherette type of designer I think, very urban. Alexandra is, I must say, very talented though. I wish they would just send Wendy home though... I cant look at her!!!

"About the dye, [Kevin] was asking Jay if he knew where the dye was, but Jay kept trying to brush him off and walked away. Of course Kevin's gonna be a little suspicious. After Wendy found it, he did apologize to Jay."

I think it's suspicious that Wendy, of all people, was the one who "found" the dye. What if she saw it laying around earlier and hid it in order to put one of her competitors behind schedule? A crime of opportunity: she sees it, swipes it, maybe doesn't even know whose dye it is. She figures later she can be a "hero" for finding it, but in the meantime, she's stolen an hour or so of worktime from someone... and that someone turned out to be Kevin.

I actually don't hate Wendy as much as many of you, but I do think she's pretty ruthless.

OMG, totally! Austin is the best designer there! And what's up with Wendy stating point blank, "I don't have to get Austin's style," and blah blah blah? Is there beefing coming up between them?

I had the same suspicion....She did kinda incriminate herself by saying, "Everything I do here is strategic."

Yup, I thought the exact same thing. If she wants to play games, there's always Survivor. This show is about creativity.

Yeah...Wendy has not come up smelling like roses throughout this show.

It's not like she's earned the right to be liked. I mean, this is a one who openly admitted that she will exploit her motherhood if it'll help her win. If she starts talking about dead grannies, I'll just laugh and I'll dance when she gets sent home.

I know! Did you hear her complaining to Austin after the slient auction? "I don't like for my weaknesses to be on display! Selling and marketing are not my strong suits."

Ok....#1, if you can't sell/market your stuff? Get out of fashion design. #2, she spent most of her time just standing there and getting jealous of Robert and Alexandra and the others, #3, ok, if you're not particularly strong in one area, what do you do? Become complacent and blubber about how it's so hard, or try to better yourself by practicing in that field? I mean, she needs to get off her heinie and her high horse and put some more effort into her work rather than complain about how "everyone's got more opportunity than her" and how "this is her last chance". Wendy, it's only your last chance if you make it that way. And frankly, if you're just gonna give up because you couldn't win some stupid reality show, then you weren't fit for the business anyway.

Not that Project Runway is stupid, but I was just making a point.tongue.gif

I was so tired of her complaining about this being her last chance! She also told Nora that she is young and will have many opportunities unlike her! I cant beleive she was suggesting that Nora leave the show! At least Vanessa is on to her.

I don't think she was suggesting that Nora leave, I think she was trying to garner sympathy from the others. But I still can't wrap my head around what went down in the laundry room with her and Vanessa. I mean....think about it. What's the last thing you want to happen after you've just worked 12 hours putting a dress together, dying fabric, and working that sewing machine? You don't wanna be grilled about it. Maybe Vanessa could've answered better than, "Don't interview me for the cameras," but Wendy did not need to blow it up like she did. I wanted to shake her after she started with that, "What? I don't deserve your kindness? I don't deserve to be nice to?" *ugh* And then she leaves in a huff, even slamming a dryer door shut? Puh-lease.

ROFL!!
AgJu
Anyone else see her interview video? This woman is a mess! She actually admits to stealing. She says, "I wanna know how people get ahead in the industry." Not so bad, you might say. Then, however, she goes on to say, "If I see something that works for one person, you can bet I'm gonna use it tomorrow." And she goes on to say that she doesn't haven't a problem with stealing, she just doesn't call it stealing. I'm so ready for this woman to get sent home.
AgJu
After watching her interview video, I just love Vanessa! I thought it was funny...at one point she talks about how she deals with stress. She says she goes home and has a vodka and tonic, but she can't do that on Project Runway because nobody drinks and then she says, "So the British-Texan is left alone with her stress and nothing to drink."
ThomsTeddyBear
I don't know if I've said this already because I'm old and forgetful and I think my rheumatism is going to my brain but just in case I didn't...what was I saying again?

Frankly, I find Robert a little smarmy. From the very beginning, my SmarmAlarm was ringing when he introduced his design inspiration as "sportscars -- because, like women, they're beautiful, sleek, and dangerous!" Ick and Double-Ick.

Follow that up with "penis envy" and "let's have some mud-wrestling" and you've got some major macho smarmitude.

It's true that he's not bad to look at, but I could never be seriously attracted to someone with his attitudes towards women.

I was thinking about a couple things....

Jay- What exactly did he do in porn? Hearing him say that he worked in porn, I know the obvious answer is porn star, but as outrageous as he is, I just can not picture him as a porn star.....

Daniel- So, I've been looking at interview videos and stuff, and I have come to the conclusion....that Daniel is an owl. I really don't know why....Whenever I look at him, I just think, "Owl!" Maybe it's the hair and the small lips, I dunno....I just know that now I think Daniel looks like an owl.tongue.gif

I figured Jay was more in the still-photographing, filming, casting, or distribution end of the porn industry. He doesn't seem buff enough to have been a porn star.

Heh..."buff." I thought maybe he was in costume design or selling/distributing, myself. Somewhere on the business end, no pun intended.

I've been playing a little game in my head: to which already-established designer would I compare each contestant?

Alexandra: Minimalist but sensual sportswear, I'd say Calvin Klein.

Austin: In his own appearance, he's trying (very successfully!) to channel YSL in the 70s, but his work reminds me more of Oscar de la Renta. Look at the silhouette.

Jay: Stephen Sprouse, Stephen Sprouse, Stephen Sprouse ... though his BR dress shows he also can draw from Narciso Rodriguez when necessary.

Kara: The edginess of Jean-Paul Gaultier with the elegance of Valentino --- an odd combo, I know, but that's what I see in her.

Nora: I think Tim was onto something in suggesting Helmut Lang (though I see less Miguel Adrover in her).

Robert: I think he's trying to be a Richard Tyler, but not quite making it.

Vanessa: Clearly in the idiom of Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen -- one of the reasons I like her best.

Very good observation, bravo!

I agree completely with your comment above. Though I thought Nora's first design, the blue lawn chiar dress was ABSOLUTELY Thierry Muglier. Her white envy dress was indeed very Helmut Lang. (Speaking of Miguel Adrover, did anyone think Robert's envy suit--his best work to date--looked quite Miguel Adrover-ish?)

I don't know how I feel about Kara's work--they look sleek but somehow lack of certain personality, kind of like Kevin's work. Skillful, professional, but you can't tell the mentality behind the work. And I don't like that Kara always seemed to fond of making ruffled hem/sleeves, but that's just me.

Have to say Jay totally won me over with the Chrysler-inspired top, that was amazing--only if that stupid huge flower wasn't there.

Personally I am more inclined to relate to Nora's aesthetic taste.

Ooh --- Thierry Mugler as a touchstone for the lawn chair dress is right on target. Didn't think of that one, but it's a brilliant match!

I agree with you that Kevin is really hard to peg. Frankly, he's never done anything that I particularly liked. The shower curtain dress in was scrunched up in the front in a way that seemed inelegant to me; the envy dress had ungainly proportions and to my mind should have landed him among the weakest three; and the BR dress was just okay (though I liked it better than winner Wendy's).

I chose Gaultier for Kara b/c I think the military-inspired envy piece was really reminiscent of some of JPG's references; the Valentino vibe, which I couldn't quite place, probably comes from her use of ruffles: you're right, she always has them.

The images that were running through my head....At first I thought, "Well, uh, maybe he designs stuff!" But everyone takes their clothes off in a heartbeat in porn so what would he design.tongue.gif Then I thought porn star, but couldn't picture him doing that.tongue.gif:p

Now Robert....maybe he could be a pornstar!...lol:p

I thought Jay designed the clothes for the porn stars to wear in the movies? I thought he said that in the first episode. I can be wrong though.

I don't think he specifically stated what he did, although I may be wrong....I just know he said he worked in porn and almost instantly questioned whether or not he was actually a porn star.
