Bravo Vanessa! And oh my God! thanks for posting her website. She's really talented and you can see much more on her site than you could ever see on the show. There's even a photo of her and the hottest man alive, STING!!! Oh my god, he's so hot and they are all over each other. It was really deep in the site - under "Events" and then at the end of the photo gallery.

Thanks for the tip about Vanessa's website I just went there - saw the picture her and Sting and that was cool. But, after looking around her site I found another....... OMG!!! While Sting my be hot, he's an oldtimmer. Give'um to me young and strong and athletic. If you look in her COLLECTIONS section and then hit SPRING / SUMMER 2004 you will see a fashion show. The next to last fashion show shot is of what looks like everyone from the show. MR. HOTTIE SEX GOD ANDIE RODDICK is leading the pack of Vanessa's models. I wonder what his involvment with Vanessa is???? Did she get to have her British way with him??? I'm sure that meant a hell of a lot more than lying back and thinking of ENGLAND!!! or at least feel his big strong tennis ball POUNDING arms??? god, I hope for her and all women's kind sake, she did! Lots of love to you Vanessa! Wish you were still on the show!
Hannah_Lorrae
Did I miss something? Did Mario say he was gay? Did anyone else yell, "Hey, I'm gay!"? I just haven't seen sexual orientation being a talked-about issue on this show.

Dang, your post was almost hotter than a romance novel!! I have to turn on the air conditioner now!!

Nora is a poser. A mohawk a punk doesn't make.

"When did he anounce that he was the poster child for gay men? I'm pretty sure he's not the only homosexual male on the show, and the fact that everyone is different ought to say something."

Yes, if someone is gay or not, it shouldn't matter. Who they prefer has no effect on the quality of the clothes they make!
corprip
Hate her, or love her, Wendy has comments on each episode featured on her website, www.wendypepper.com.

Just a little tidbit:
"As the day wore on Austin became more frazzled with the looming time deadline and the various components of his dress. I chose not to tell him that I thought it was ghastly, but I shared that with Vanessa to calm her down and make her feel less isolated in her frustration. I stand by my decision to keep my opinions to myself under that specific set of circumstances because I really felt like Austin had a chance to show his prowess as a designer and I was going to let him sink or swim with no interference from me."
lilmiss23
What's so bad about trying to show some love/support for someone? Just because you didn't like it, doesn't mean that they had to dislike it.
DCGayCouple
Nora is next to go, she's annoying..
Who said they didn't know that Mario was gay?? I can't believe I read that.. .how could you NOT know he is... does he have to say it !!!
That's like saying you didn't know that Austin is gay... or maybe you think he's straight too, because he's never said he's gay ?!?

boo hoo hoo hoo, my name is Austin....
FYI, I like his designs, but he's too much of a girl, and I'm gay so I can say it.

Top 3 are Kara, Jay and (ugh) Austin, without the DRAMA...

TTB, I gotta work today, so I'll be quieter. But I think we were arguing on different tracks. I was trying to point out that all the designers in any challenge are all ranked in some way; they first eliminate the middle ground and keep a best/worst group of 6, etc. etc. I don't think the order in which that group of six is asked to leave the stage gives us any clues to how those six are ranked. But I think the judges' comments DO let us know who was ranked best and worst in that group, and I think it is clear that the judges criticized, not praised, AUstin's design.

But I give up. I like chatting with you, but it's also frustrating because you seem to be unable to seriously consider another point of view. I have conceded some good things about Austin; you apparently are unable to concede that he has any flaws. And that suggests to me that your view of him is both unidimensional and unrealistic.

What a coinky-dinky, work was the WORST yesterday and I've been lagging in energy for a good day and night.

I'm frustrating, eh? I get that alot, lol, but I find alot of times it's because someone doesn't want to face the truth about a situation so I stay obstinate. When someone proves something to me, I say, "I'm sorry, you were right" then move on without another thought to it - I'm not so prideful that I hate being wrong...it just has to be proven. It's nothing I wouldn't expect from anyone else either.

I never said the judges did not criticize Austin's BR dress, but it was hardly as scathing or trumped up as reports on this board would have it to be and it wasn't to his face which is what the judges do to the bottom contestants. I'm sorry we were on different tracks but that was the information I was trying to convey.

The thing about suggestions - they're not facts until you apply them one way or the other. So I'll give you the facts on my view of Austin:

1. he's extremely talented and I love his clothes!
2. he treats women like ladies, not like work tools ("Ms. Odell, may I have this dance?" HAYELL YEAH!)
3. he's breathtakingly GORGEOUS! The way he looks when made up and in makeup, his poise, his hair - everything! I wouldn't date him (I already have a gay husband) but I'd sit and stare! Others may not like him but hey, variety.
4. he is himself despite those who judge him based on his "femininity". That's one thing that will REALLY get me in your corner as long as you're not rude.

What would be unrealistic would be:
1. liking somone who treats women like garbage (I don't know, I guess some women are into that sort of thing).
2. living up to someone else's expected image of you instead of living up to your own. BUFF MANLY MEN! FULL OF MACHISMO! >GAG!<...(again, other people got that co-dependency thing going on...confusing)
3. liking someone who's rude (unless it's a comedy show)
4. lambasting one but not others for showing emotion (actually that can be called a couple of things)

As for flaws, the only one I saw so far and spoke of was that the Rock-n-Roll challenge was not his area. I didn't like the dress for rock but I liked it for romance so why would I call something I liked a flaw?

There, now you can throw those suggestions out the window. And I do hope you stick around - never give up on something you like and if you like debating, so be it. It's not a bad thing, just a different thing...just like Austin, he's different - and different is good.

See ya later!

Austin is the worst! Like Step 'N' Fetchit and Mammy, caricatures are not always the best way to represent a group of people. It is unfortunate that people feel that being gay should force one to choose a "role" to play. From the hairnets and hair clips to the sassy pirate outfits to the REALLY theatrical crying fit, this clown is all a facade and a creature of his own design. He can't be booted soon enough for me so he can get on with his career designing for drag queens or small town theatre troops. Away you poof!

I don't want to give the impression that I'm blindly defending anyone, but that's really not fair to say. I mean, Austin bugs me sometimes, but saying that about him is just rude. When did he anounce that he was the poster child for gay men? I'm pretty sure he's not the only homosexual male on the show, and the fact that everyone is different ought to say something. Nora is a heterosexual girl, but do I get upset because she acts like an immature brat because I'm also a heterosexual girl? No, because that's stupid. People are different, that's life. Just becuase Austin happens to be gay, and someone else happens to be gay, doesn't mean he has the right to say Austin is a bad representation because he's not representing anyone except himself. I can't be the only one who thinks sexual preference is completely nonrelated to one's design skills.

Again, replace Austin with "any gay man," please becuase I couldn't care less that it's him; I just can't stand stereotyping.

>>>>>APPLAUSE!!! APPLAUSE!!!<<<<<<<<

THAT'S why I love reading your posts!! You said it, you said it without being rude, and you said it with complete common sense! Even if you hate Austin, you said what you said with equality and composure. I bow to you - you actually get it!!

JG, this is obviously one of those we experienced on the QE and Carson boards. You know how to handle it...let them burn themselves out with the excrement that escapes their mouth. There are better people here to talk to and they aren't ignorant. As much as paillette and I disagree on things, neither of us has gone to the extreme this one has.

She has evolved to where she doesn't HAVE to make patterns or sew anymore, even though she can. She hires us to do it for her! No need to worry about Vanessa because her business is doing quite well....check out her website....you can see the talent and you can order anything you see so share the link! (www.vanessarileylondon.com) As for her relationship with Austin....they ARE friends....this is just a show! Enjoy watching the drama unfold!

YAAYYY!! Thanks for setting the record straight, JAA1! Doesn't stop people from being pissed that she was eliminated, but it's obvious she's doing well.

One thing, could they put up some prices on her clothing?

I hope you are right, and he does stay in. I would not actually want to see any of those three go this time, however, I think that Austin will be the first one to go later on, then Jay, and Nora will be in the final group.

I just have one question: Is there going to be a day when you post something that is not critical of another person? I've looked at all of your posts and all you do is criticize. Oh sure, you're supportive of Jay, but that was like one sentence in a long post. Are you really like that? I just want to know so I don't waste my time reading your posts if they're all going to be critical.

TTB: Are we one and the same? I wonder what SK would think if he knew?

One and the same? LOL! Oh man!...you don't mean like the stephen-stalker over the QE board who was posting under two names, do you? That was spooky! So do you think the stephen-stalker has returned under a new name? Well I'll tell you what, if we were one and the same then I'd love being a tall, young girl of 20! The down side is you'd have to be a short woman twice that age.

New epi tomorrow, I'm nervous! And remember to set your vcr tonight! Starts at 8pm eastern with Butch then the clips at 9pm

I'm really surprised to see so little about Kevin. The guy is in my opinion the best. He has a style, it's personal. All his creations are fashionable and modern, he definitely has the couture edge, while remaining very wearable. He ALWAYS answers the challenge to the point. I didn't really get his "envy dress", but all the rest was great job. I'm definitely looking forward to the wedding gown design on Wednesday. Gosh, I wish I knew him before my wedding. But there's still so much to dress for ! Like for going to work, everyday. Or to the restaurant. So I could still get something from him. But I don't find a web-site for him. I just found his name is Kevin Johnn, and he's assistant to a big name fashion designer, and that's why he's on the show, to get exposure by himself.

Well, Kara Saun and Vanessa are very good also. Too bad Vanessa was eliminated - at least, she's quite established. And Kara Saun is established a bit too, so I guess they were just here for the exposure, not for the break that much.

Nora needs to grow up! She has a lot of talent, but hey, real life is a [expletive deleted], she's not gonna make it like that.

Alexandra, Robert and Wendy are not special. Alexandra makes pretty things, and she seems very good technically, but they're not memorable.

And Austin, everybody agrees, is good as costume designer.

As for Jay, yes, he has personality in his designs, and he's very good technically. The question is : how wearable is that ? I'm not on stage of a rock concert very often... How many of you are ?
goddessamelia
Robert is too special! Im also in love with him so Im biased!

Haha, so true about the mohawk. Whatever.

My theory is that whoever has a website was eliminated from Project Runway. My reasoning is that the winner is most likely working with BR right now as we speak, and doesn't have any time or need to put a personal website up at this point in their career. Anyone who has been eliminated will be trying to market themselves any way they can, and will release their own line by themselves. The winner's line will probably be released once the show is finished. (I know, these are all assumptions.)

So far, the ones with websites include Daniel, Starr, Wendy, Vanessa, and Kevin. I'm still looking for the rest. Now, I know kevin and Wendy have not been eliminated as far as we know, but I think it's pretty much a given Wendy will be out, and now I wonder the same about Kevin.
joreb82
Jay went to my college some years ago and comes back to do crits. As a fashion design major, criticism is natural and must be faced, but Jay is down right nasty and rude. He completely tears poeple a part. I would say I hope he does terrible, but he actual makes the show completly enjoyable and funny. I especially loved the Banana Republic dress he created. I think he could of won that too, except that design was a little too much for their target market. So Jay even though you can be mean, you make the show that much better and your drama is funny..
Chric19

First post, here goes...Why, may I ask, does Austin receive so much praise and adoration? His first dress was beautiful - I was impressed by his ability to use such an unusual material to make a dress. The second dress, however, was horrid. It had a nauseating tie-dyed effect and a HEART in the middle (but why should I be surprised Austin is NOT a master of subtlety). Frankly, it looked like a dress version of cheap shirt I bought at Wet Seal when I was high school. The BR dress was cute - in theory. But would anyone honestly wear that? He layered a stiff material under the skirt so it puffs a la Stepford Wives style, and that fabric is good for small details - I'm not going to walk around looking like a bad upholstery job. The fourth dress was horrendous, that's all I can say. All this would not be so aggravating were it not for his grating personality. Or actually the fact that he has no personality, he's a big obnoxious ACT. Everything he does is so measured and calculated. Did anyone notice how he was drinking from his glass on the second episode? And as for his supposed beauty, give me a break!! His smile disturbs me and he has a noticeable molesta-mustache in the interview segments. And please, someone tell him to put a shirt under that vest!

Now, why does Kara Saun go so unpraised on this board? She has designed some of the prettiest and most complex dress to date. Furthermore, she seems very professional. She handled the situation with Nora in a classy, respectful way.
Yay Kara!

I sincerely hope Austin doesn't leave this week. I've already decided, that as soon as he is gone, I will stop watching the show. He is fah-bu-lous.

I think that's a very realistic rundown of Austin's career on PR, but his fan base here loves the hearts, cabbage roses, ruffles and bows that define his design aesthetic. I've noted before that his ideal client seems to be Hello KItty, and I still think so.

I also agree that Kara seems to be undervalued. I really loved her envy piece, both for the concept and for the execution. I would have enjoyed seeing her rock n' roll idea last week.

Although you've expressed your dislike of Austin ad nauseum, there's no need to make such obnoxiously condescending comments about his fan base (e.g., "his fan base here loves the hearts, cabbage roses, ruffles and bows."). I know you pride yourself (a little too much) on your analytical debating prowess, but such ad hominem remarks really undermine your arguments and anti-Austin campaign.

I don't see how that's ad hominem at all. Each of the elements I identified -- ruffles, hearts, bows, cabbage roses -- has appeared on Austin's designs, usually very prominently and in an oversized scale. I therefore think it's fair to say that these things are an integral part of his design vocabulary, and that those who love Austin's designs must be loving these elements. In fact, I cordially respect the Austin-lovers like ThomsTeddyBear, even if I don't agree with them.

I will say that I'm getting tired of dissing Austin (BIG cheer from the crowd!): there are a lot of other interesting people on the show to discuss, like Kara or Jay. I basically started the anti-Austin campaign because I felt there was very little diversity of opinion about him expressed on this board, and my contrary nature abhors total conformity of opinion. But now that a broader range of views about him, from several posters, has been aired, I feel like the conversation is more balanced.

CHEER!!!!!
(just kidding)

For whatever reason, the editors and producers of this show are using Austin to sell the show and even you must admit that the man is entertaining as hell!!!

I loved his corn husk dress and I LOVED his BR dress. I would, in fact, wear it (if I looked like Melissa).

Personally I think that Jay has much more talent, I adored the "look" of his envy outfit. Kara's envy outfit and concept was right on!!!! She deserved the win!!!
Loomchick
Yes, there is more discussion here about some of the PR designers than others . . . however, I think it may be in correlation to how much air time Bravo gives each designer . . . The mini-dramas of temper tantrums, nastiness, crying, etc. (ala Nora, Austin, Wendy) probably makes for better entertainment than watching a professional designer go about their business (ala Kara, Alexandra, Robert) . . . I'm sure there's lots going on that we don't get to see since the show is limited to an hour (including commercials) . . . Think about the amount of airtime given to the problem children on other reality shows (ala Omorosa)

I can't wait until tonight's episode . . . I'm sure we'll all be busting with input, feedback, etc.

Happy viewing where ever you are!

I think it was more accurate of me to say your comments regarding Austin's fan base was more belittling than anything else (especially when read with the remark that his ideal client is Hello Kitty.) Also, based on the *tone* of your posts so far, I also don't think it's outrageous for me to infer you regard admirers of Austin's designs as being unsophisticated "naifs," as you once called ThomsTeddyBear. Regardless, you've done a tremendous job in garnering support for your anti-Austin crusade, which you masterfully spun as being a way to diversify opinons about Austin. (I'm all for dissenting opinions, but it just seems to me you immediately support anyone who attacks Austin and keep silent whenever someone praises him.) Anyway, maybe I'm being a little too sensitive.

Re. Kara: I love her poise, professionalism, and warmth. While I'm not necessarily a fan of her sexed up, rock-and-roll style, I love how luxe she is able to make every single design look! Kara and Austin are the two I'm routing for.

Re. Jay: Not a big fan of his personality but I do appreciate that he toned down his persona after episode 2. I don't think his envy or grocery store designs were anything special. However, I thought his Bannana Republic dress was exquisite and I loved the top of his episode 4 outfit--although I didn't care for the bottom and removable skirt.

PS-Did i miss something? Is Alexandra Vidal of Vidal Sassoon?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you! Finally someone said it! Whenever I hear her name I always think of that!

I have no idea if she is, but I wouldn't be surprised.

JG

I thought the "vidal" was someone's first name.
But I will tell you this: there is an actress named alexandra vidal. I've seen her name but never her face, so i have no idea if it is the same person.
seems she's always kind of quiet and not calling attention to herself.....
in any case, ole alexandra is certainly an enigma!

I think her name is Alexandra Videl, rather than Vidal.

On the subject of Alexandra - when the show first aired she kind of stood out because she was cute. Since then, she's become the invisable contestant. You see very little of her. For a while there I forgot she was in the competition. I wonder if they're setting it up with the editing to make her like this come-from-behind dark-horse finalist.

Alexandra just may be a sleeper contestant-- someone we'd never expect to win. She manages to eke by with no direct criticism or confrontation. She touts a highly commercial, wearable style, which Banana Republic would love. Plus she's young and mouldable, perfect for being made into BR's design-b!tch. I'm keeping my eye on her.

First of all, I apologized for the naif comment shortly afer I made it. I was sincere, and I think that since that time TTB and I both have rather enjoyed sparring with one another. Perhaps I'm wrong and she hates my guts, but regardless, I've become sorta fond of her. At any rate, I think given the fact that I apologized without qualification for the remark, and that (I think) TTB and I are cool with one another, it's not really right for you to resurrect it now.

Second, I would like to point out that the comment was not about taste in clothes, but about the question of whether or not Austin was acting strategically in getting rid of Vanessa rather than Wendy. I asserted, rather forcefully, that it was a shrewd and calculated decision, given that PR is also a competition. TTB responded to the effect that Austin didn't have a calculating bone in his body. I then made the comment in question which, I agree, was gratuitous and for which I apologized long ago. But the point is, the comment wasn't about clothing tastes, it was about the question of Austin's strategy, or lack thereof, during ep.4

I hate to say it, but it was not pretty (well, the dress was OK, but the train was too much). Only Nora's and Alexandra's were uglier.

This show is completely biased ... I am sure they have pre-selected who they are going to award this reality show win to. I mean what the hell is wrong with the friggn judges... AUSTIN'S Wedding dress was a bloody hippy wearing a $1 dollar dress from a bloody pawn store and sewing some extra material on it ... IT WAS UGLY !!! and HE'S IN ?!?! BULL*&*@ MAN !!! I truly did like Nora's dress and they should have been no question in my mind for her to be in. It was beautiful and something a bride would definately wear, and she's out ... I lost respect for this show, for its lack of professionalism, Michael Kors, and everyone who's a part of it ... .bloody cra# show !!! And to Nora and other talented people who got booted, you have the talents, and you don't need these idiots to tell you whats good and whats not !!! I am so bloody disgusted !!! aghhhhh .......

Austin, my dear heart, my dear love - love you to death! But the next time a fashion model give you her idea for an outfit, JUST SAY NO! Love ya still, but that truly was scary!

And poor Jay, stuck with Morgan! Ok, better Morgan than Olga in this instance...but why didn't she let him heighten the dress so she could actually WALK! Did she really think that was going to work? Jay should have just snuck up and heightened it anyway.

The best ones were Kara's and (as much as I can't stand her, I have to be truthful) Wendy's. Those were absolutely gorgeous!

As soon as Nora got those roses I said, "uh oh" because it's been done a million times and the first thing I thought of was Cinderella.

In the end, it was clear it would be between Austin and Nora.

*whispers: "Austin, remember next time JUST SAY NO!"*

i completely agree about austin's dress. it was so over the top. i don't understand why he had to make a mini-dress. i really think that austin was trying too hard to show that he's versatile, and frankly, i believed he was the one who deserved to go home tonight.

and on a side note, who knew the models were so young?? i couldn't believe audrey was only 17. and melissa is only 16!
