Morgan is not the only one with runway experience. I have known Melissa for a few years, and am friends with her mother. Melissa has been working as a model for over 4 years, and has been doing runway work all over world for the past 3 years.

Sounds reasonable to me. Maybe both of his parents aren't Russian tho. He has a different look to him, in terms of complexion and features. Maybe his mother comes from somewhere else but knows Russian.

No you are not the only one to have been mislead for a minute by what Wendy was saying. It did sound as if she was starting some sappy, meaningful reason for picking Morgan. Wendy is so annoying and insecure! I think she should go back to Anthropology and give up the fashion biz. She makes enough sarcastic remarks about the others' intelligence. Tsk. Tsk. Austin obviously wants to take her out but is too much of a gentleman to do so, thank goodness.
Another misleading comment on the show:
Whenever the decision was between Nora and Vanessa and Heidi was giving reasons for professionalism, etc and she was saying how "you have to be professional, not crack under pressure,"etc..and after Nora's fit she lets Vanessa go. Some of their comments and conversations in general don't really make sense artistically. Does that make sense?

I don't think Morgan should of been eliminated. She walked the runway like a bird. Long skinny legs. I wish Olga would get eliminated, she is the worst walker. Plus I think she is slightly overweight for modeling. I would feel humiliated to show that body off infront of millions of people.
IloveAustinmore

Do you really honestly think Olga is overweight for modeling? I think she is fabulous and a killer walker. I would prefer her with more meat on her to be honest but she looks amazing to me. I model in Miami and L.A. and they are all different types of modeling jobs. Curves are in and compared to the girls I work with, Olga is not in that curvy department...she's in a completely different body department with legs that go on for days.

From a local SF paper article about NY Fashion Week:
"Project Runway": Here's a local angle. Model Melissa
Haro, 17, (a Melania Trump ringer) from San Jose, was
still in the running at press time. She was in San
Francisco last week, having new pictures taken at Look
Model Agency, and of course is contractually required
to remain mum about who won. Well, we're rooting for
her anyway. The toughest part for her? "I was only 16
when the filming started -- I was the youngest model
on the show -- so it took a while to prove to the
designers that I could do a good job," she said last
week.
In the most recent episode, designers were asked to
make a bathing suit/club outfit in five hours. Haro
wore a body-hugging, Esther Williams- style bathing
suit made by the ultra-thin, flamboyant Austin
Scarlett. "The suit was extremely small in the crotch
area, and it was actually painful to wear it all
night," Haro says. "I had to walk around with my legs
crossed even when I was standing up."

How does the winning model get picked? It can't be in the conventional way that has been done so far. If the winning designer is selected by the judges from among three finalists - does that designer's model automatically win? Or do the judges make their own selection from among the final three?

i can't believe you said that!! olga is not my favorite model on the show, but she is most certainly not overweight!! look at these pics and tell me you still think she's overweight: (copy and paste)

her measurements are: 34-23-34
she's a very very thin girl! she might not have the most outstanding walk (like melissa or morgan) but she's definately not overweight!!
YOu would feel humiliated to show that body off in front of people?? what kind of body do you have? you should be humiliated to have said that! obviously, she's on the show walking the runway and you're not.

One more thing to the person who said Olga's overweight for modeling:
Not only is she NOT overweight, but she's really not even curvy at all, she doesn't really have hips...she has a really thin lanky body perfect for runway modelling.

From what I understand, the model paired with the winning designer is the winning model.

Agreed. I actually thought the suit was pretty cool and innovative! At least I haven't seen one like it on the beach.

I think Julia is the winner in "no hips" contest. Olga is not curvy, but still feminine, because she looks delicate. Julia is more like a guy, with wide shoulders and no diference b/w waist and hips. What are her measurement, I wonder...

As a Melissa fan, I've been wondering how she could have been among the bottom two models twice now. Only answer I can come up with is that models come across differently live vs on tv.
Maybe television adds something to Melissa's appeal and takes away from others. TV might capture the subtley of her expressions or exagerate the sway in her hips.
Much as I like Erin, her walk is stiff, her expression void. Maybe all of that is less apparent for some reason seen from 14 feet away at calf level.

Right, she is!
My opinion is that Melissa was/is so young. She was 16 at the time these episodes were taped. The designers were afraid to use her. Also in my opinion, the first two episodes (mop skirt, envy) she more than proved herself to be worthy of doing the job. I've watched her work on the runway and in front of the camera and she's simply awesome! Why was Melissa last to pick? What is there to understand? 3 of the 5 designers pretty much settled with their choice (Kara, Jay, Robert) probably due to bonding and for the ease of creating familiar fit (less time spent fitting yet another model).

privet umniza....the model selection process seems somewhat arbitrary...i don't understand why austin is so inconsistent in his model choices. he should have totally picked a more feminine looking girl instead of erin...out of hte models left standing, i think olga melissa and jenny would look best in his clothes because they are girlie. however, i'm glad none of those girls had to wear his hideous bullfighter's uniform this week.

Chalk up Melissa's last selction as collective temporary insanity on the part of the judges. If I remember right (help me out here, everyone), Melissa modeled other winning designs throughout the series. If I'm wrong, my apologies, but the fact is that she always has a strong presence on the runway, and I'll say it again, modeling Austin's bathing suit, she looked amazing. She'll make it to Fashion Week, I'm sure, hopefully representing Austin's designs.
As an aside, who would have thought that Wendy of all people would be the one to keep her in the competition?
umniza
January 31, 2005 - 11:26 AM
Skatina (what a name you picked ), I realize that it's arbitrary, but for the 3 challenges Jay and Kara picked the same model. Well, Kara - for wedding, swimsuit and collection; Jay - for BR, swimsuit and collection. Robert - for swimsuit and collection. I bet they'll stick with them next episode again. That's why I'm kind of sorry, I dont think Olga's going to advance, because Robert will not, unless of course Austin will pick her. But he's unpredictable. I think he'll pick Melissa in the end. I wonder about his choice of Erin, she seems like one of the weaker models from who's left. He was the first to pick and he picked Erin - I was surprised. Maybe because he never worked with her, he wanted to give her a chance. Or maybe since her look is more "edgy", he thought she'll provide that "edgyness/hippiness" for him; after all, he's been critisized for being too "i feel pretty" with almost all of his creations.

Because he's planning to make it to fashion week, and when/if he does, he wants to have had the satisfaction of working with each of the models at least once so he'll know which one suits him best.

Did anyone else like Joy. She was my favorite and I was sad to see her go. I don't like Erin she also kinda looks mad on the runway. I know s are usually supposed to have that "I don't care" look on the runway because it's supposed to be edgy or something, but all the other s never look like that. Tim said about Alexandra's dress that "Erin's dour expression and catatonic shuffle didn't help." I don't think she walks well either. I noticed it from the first episode when she was ing Marios outfit that she didn't walk well, but I thought it was just that the shower curtain was too tight too move in, but maybe not.

I asked "all" about why/how Melissa was picked last twice. In the instructions on that thread they tell you to make sure you mention which designer you're asking the question to. I'm wondering if they'll chuck questions addressed to "all."
Maybe Austin did pick Erin last time out because of a so-called edginess. But imo Melissa can provide edge, no edge, hard, soft, pretty, butch - anything and everything.
Tim criticized Erin for being dour and catatonic (Oh Tim, so mean) modeling Alexandra's swimsuit. She also looked too darn skinny. Especially in a suit so scanty. And yet I still kinda liker her. Someone mentioned Mario's shower curtain dress. I thought she looked sophisticated and haute couture in that. Off the shoulder is a great look for her. Very Audrey Hepburn.

i have to agree that Melissa is a beautiful girl and man can she walk that runway. She has been one of my favorites since the beginning, but really won me over with
Austins bathing suit. She looked great and deserves just as much credit for that win as he does. It was a beautiful suit, the best really, but if worn by another model, say Morgan, it would have looked all wrong. I think Melissa has a wonderful future and i wish her all the best, hopefully working with Austin!

Melissa is such a great model and I predict that she'll have a wonderful career. What I like about her is that she is so versatile and is able to morph into a character type when she wears the different designs. Notice how different she looks when she wears Austin's designs and Kevin's Sarah Hudson design.

Olga is the most beautiful imo, even more beautiful than Melissa (and I love Melissa btw), but she has been less and less impressive each week, less and less noticeable. When the competition started I remember one of the designers saying about the model selection process somethng like, "This is silly - everybody wants the same three girls: Melissa, Martinique and Olga." Olga's still getting picked, she hasn't been in the bottom two yet that I recall, but I can't help getting the feeling she's on the bubble and will go soon especially since the designers seem to have zeroed in on their favorites and she's not one of them.

i don't think Melissa is prettier than anybody else...she seems to be more aggressive, more apt to play the role of whatever outfit she's wearing and show off for the judges (this could backfire if she overpowers what she's wearing). i don't like olga because she seems to have some kind of attitude and i don't even think she's pretty at all in terms of what we're brainwashed to think beauty is. i like models like martinique & jenny because they don't overpower whatever they wear - both serve the purpose of a model very well in that you could drape a terry towel across eiher in the most hideous way and both could still make it shine.
on another note, i think its too bad that austin can't pick himself to be his own model....he's got the look.
