At first when i started to watch it, i thought it was a show placed together to get students out and their names.... to be given a chance... but from seeing the age range and how others have had run way shows already and others haven't it doesnt really seem fair. I hope all plays out well though and that this show doesn't disappoint the true fact why the designers are there..

I loved the show. I am not "concerned" that the contestants are different ages and different backgrounds. I believe talent is obvious. Of course, good technique works too, and when you're having both, you may have an advantage, but I believe that with talent, you are able to find your own technique. I'm looking forward to the next episode.
Vickie
Hey, fun show!! It sure would be nice to see some of the other designers who didn't make the cut...any chance of that?
christopher_d
I love this show. age is irrelevant in this context - talent, vision, creativity - those will be the deciding factors.
ThomsTeddyBear
I've been waiting to see this show for a while and it didn't dissappoint me. I had a favorite right off the bat - Austin. Taking the contestants to a grocery store for their material was different and forced them to think creatively, I liked that. The corn husk dress was my favorite because it was difficult to do - he took a chance using food and it came out looking great, even dried. The white shower curtain dress was my next favorite, it was just beautiful.

I also liked the variety of contestants...they were of all ages and from all walks of life. The mom was especially a welcome sight because it shows that it's never too late to try to reach your dreams. I hope she does well.

Great show and it gives use who are older in the fashion biz a chance. im 33 and soon to be 34 and it was great to see the wide age ranges of everyone good luck to you all.now all i need to know is where i sign up for the next season yayay

hey does anyone know the name of the song they played on the banana republic commercial that aired????
PrjRnway
I must say that I did enjoy the first episode, but I am extremely disappointed that they are not any plus size designers in the show. It would have been nice to had at least one to show more diversity. There has to be at least one designer that can produce great quality pieces and auditioned.
TrojanStallion
The song they played is off of the "Queer Eye" soundtrack, sorry i don't know the name, but the cd is good, pick it up!!
As far as the show is concerned, it was a pleasant suprise, after seeing the previews i was not really inclined to even watch it, just thinking it was ANOTHER reality show, but i think i am addicted now, good times!! My only other comment, is that i think Starr is in over her head, i felt soooo sorry for her, she seemed so lost, like she just auditioned for the show, not really thinking she would get on. Poor thing, i hope they let her down easy, she seems like a sweet girl....

I love this show!!! And, like a few others, I want to know how to apply for the next one.
Tell me honestly, how many designers here didn't lose sleep Wednesday night thinking about what they would have done if they had to design a dress out of grocery-store items? (personally, I keep picturing the teddy bears that were on sale last week...don't cry kids!)
I can't wait to see what's next!
rickachika
i like the show a lot i loved the idea behind the first episode - innovation. it's amazing how ordinary everyday things can not only become fashion but a work of art some really talented people i'm really excited to see what's in store

I am absolutely LOVING this show! Just as "Reve" stated, I also thought that the show would be about new and aspiring designers--getting their names out there and receiving exposure. I still think that it is great and I definately can not wait for next week's episode. I have been watching the repeat of this episode for three days now!!!
Jerseygrl
I've already set my Tivo to record every new episode. My boyfriend will figure out how to save it to tape or disk -whichever is easier. I can't wait till Bravo makes it available on DVD...imagine all the outtakes and behind the scene extras that *HOPEFULLY* will be included!!

So I am about to go to bed and pop on the TV... start hopping through stations and land on Bravo and this opening of this show.. OMG! First fashion is not per say my thing, but I can surely appreciate the art.. Well I just have to say it is a BRILLIANT show. I thought all night and today about what the heck I would purchase at the grocery.. Well we could all make a "trashbag" dress, but when I saw these stunning models come walking out I was astonished. These are a great group of people. I was so impressed! This is a great show. I told EVERYONE at work. We are all going to be watching!
jmefiend
i seem to be like many others here- an aspiring designer, anxious at the chance to compete like this next season! i only hope that the great response we have given- and others to come- encourage a new season RIGHT AWAY! i think this is a great concept, and it is about time that fashion be considered amongst (terribly boring) reality tv topics! finally something worth watching...i must admit the top model show intrigued me- because i wanted to see the FASHION- but this is EXACTLY what i craved...thanks! now, for casting calls to be hosted in more than just 3 cities PLEASE!? and make it soon! we're dying to know what happens- and to be a part of it next time!
iggystar
I felt kind of like you. I know some of the more famous models/designers but I'm by no means an expert on the subject. I appreciate the fashion world in general. America's Top Model is one of the watercooler shows on my job and I just happened to remember Project Runway coming on later that night and tuned in...it far exceeded anything I expected. I truly got caught up in the drama...come one making fashion from supermarket staples? I didn't think it could be done...I was wrong.

I've been selling my co-workers this show ever since (and will be reminding them on Wednesday to tune in). Hopefully, the remaining episodes will live up the the first.

My only complaint..I wish it came on right after Top Model, that way I can have a two-hour block of fashionista reality going on.
evox
I think it is a great opportunity for Starr. I'm curious how fast she learns from others as well as see how she will develop her own style. It will be interesting to watch her growth process.
evox
Do you mean plus-size models because wouldn't Jay be considered as a plus-sized designer? Yes, it would be interesting if one episode, they all had to design for plus-size models or maybe design for men or children...definately more realistic.

I think the show is great, and I agree, I also think they should show outtakes from some of the designers who didn't make the show, it would be nice to see all the artist!
FashionAtBHS
Hey i thought this show was great. I was told to see it because my art teacher in fashion design told me to see it. The next day we went to the wensite to explore it for those who didn't get to see it. We loved it seeing all the different designs that they could make out of the stuff.
TrojanStallion
You know, its really funny and ironic, i have been comtemplating changing my major to costume design and fashion, and i was having a hardtime deciding which way to go, but i was leading towards fashion design and was gonna meet with my advisor to change for the spring semester. And VOILA, i change my major, and see this show the next night, and i COULDN'T be happier that i made my decision. I'm totally pysched!!!!!! Just thought i would share that =)

when i saw this recent episode of project runway where they were in the supermarket i felt that i needed to be there. I aspired to be a FD at a young age and have always been a person full of ideas and i knew instantly the materials i would have chosen. NOW, while i may know squat about construction of clothing i think i would have done very well on the show through the first round simply on innovation. When i watched the show i just wanted to be there!!!! unfortunately i hate sewing, which is why i didn't go through with FD and gave up. I actually took a pre-college summer course at Parsons SOD and accidently left my illustrations in the lockers!( yes, i know that was totally stupid) but it was my first time in the big apple( yes, again i was a dumb a**)But still today i get so excited wondering what could have been. I love the show and wish i could be on it.Love the show. Being at Parsons for that short time was fun though and definately very demanding. You are working with the best of the best and give nothing less than 100 percent!
runwaygirl
I was really sad to see Mario go tonight. His character really grew on me. I liked the fact that he was very lax about everything, and just kinda did whatever without thinking or working too hard. I enjoyed the fact that he was different from everybody else. He truly was the "rebel", and now he is gone. =( I'll miss his personality and his buddy chats with Jay. Who will Jay take a cigarette break with now?
AuntieKrabby
I give this show two very enthusiastic thumbs UP!!

I am not in the business, I do a little photography now and again and I have a good eye for beauty, this is my only background.

I never thought I'd like this show but it turns out that I LOVE it! I watched both airings tonight!

Great job!!
yasserninja
love the show we need a 2 season im young fashion designer that would love to be in the show
metal_one
Great show! Hope to see more of behind the scenes in the fashion biz while the talent contest is taking place. Opportunity to educate and entertain simultaneously.
Hannah_Lorrae
I know what you mean. There's really too much contrast between the best and the worst for the show to be fair. But that's what makes it interesting...
Crystalblue
I agree this is a great show. Love it. I hope to see a second and ongoing seasons. Great idea for a show. At first I thought it wouldn't interest me. Boy, was I wrong. I'm hooked after only two episodes. Kudo's to the creator.
darkindustry
So is this show definitely coming out on DVD? I don't have cable and I only heard about it through a friend and Googled this website to find out all about it. I *have* to see this show now!

-Katie <-Yet another aspiring designer

This is what a reality show should be like!!!! It will take a load of talent, creativity, imagination, and brains to win this show, and thats whats great!! These people are not waitresses from Alaska or grocery clerks from Kentucky that make for good TV and win some reality show based purely on luck.....You have to have your game on week in and week out to win this, and that's what is awesome!! So CONGRATS to the producers, after only 2 episodes this show is rockin!!!
Hannah_Lorrae
I agree. We need plus size designers, plus size models, and plus size judges. That one judge looks like an aging Hollywood hooker. She has her own beauty; I like what she has to say, but she almost looks out of place. Maybe I'm being prejudiced...I hope not. Forgive! if I am. And we need some men on the runway! I'd like to see some of the designers model their creations.
kallen5511
This show ROCKS!!! I want more, more, more!!

I have to give Bravo credit. I've always loved the network, but when they entered the "reality tv" arena, I was kind of appalled. I thought Queer Eye would be stupid. I loved it right away. And I was skeptical about Project Runway, since I'm not into fashion at all and thought the show would appeal to a limited audience. But it's really a lot of fun, and I love the diversity of the contestants. Different ages, backgrounds and styles. I'm hooked.

bjade, your comment really made me LOL - I agonized for hours lying in bed wednesday night until I finally came up with the idea of using tea bags - *then* I could fall asleep. Thursday morning I was itching to actually *make* my tea bag dress! I have never been so emotionally involved in any television show. It surprises me!

Runwaygirl, I was sad too. But I figure that Mario was so laid-back, he wasn't "interesting" enough to keep on. I'm assuming the producers want to stick with people you "love to hate" to make the show more dramatic. ?

Now here's my take on the show - I think it's all-around INCREDIBLE. I'm really impressed at the *thinking* behind the concepts and editing of the first two episodes. I love that in episode 1 Daniel just didn't *get* the concept "innovation" at all - he was so wrapped up in showing off his usual tailoring and concepts and he had no regard for the materials he was working with. The challenge entirely escaped him! It was so fun to watch everyone struggle through the process.

In episode 2, I think the designers were still subconsciously in the mindset of using impractical materials to present a *purely artistic* design concept - I think most of the designers forgot to make things that would be desireable and wearable for real people. It was so smart for the producers to shock them back into reality by bringing their designs into a store and putting them up for auction. I just love the emotional whiplash the show is putting the contestants through.

I am not a TV person - I have never seen another reality show and don't watch any regular series (Friends, etc.) but luckily I check in with Bravo now and then. I am madly in love with this show and so glad I discovered it, especially at the beginning of the series! Wednesday night I raced home to make sure I watched it. That was a first for me.

A tiny bit about me: I'm a 40 year old graphic designer, with a BFA in Painting. I also do ceramics, paint, photography, etc. My family was in the fashion/modeling business so I was raised around the industry, which I adore. I wish I would have tried fashion instead of design, but I thought it was too risky. Back in the day, I wanted to go to Parsons *with all my heart and soul* so this show is extra exciting to me.

You are so right. I didn't see it in this light before. It was inspired that they took the designers to the auction with their garments! Hopefully it makes them think of the 'real world' (in a fashion industry sense) for their future designs!!

I think the show is incredible too!

Thanks (for agreeing with me, ha ha) AuntieKrabby! Isn't the show fun! I look forward to seeing you here as the drama unfolds...

Can I just say this show is absolutely genius! Kudos to the shows creator(s) and/or producer(s). I had been wondering when someone was going to make a reality show based on fashion designers....it got so bad that I almost e-mailed Paris Hilton's Mom when she was looking for ideas. Well, with the destined success of "Project Runway" I'm sure there will be more to follow.

By the way.....love the contestants they all seem very likable....my favorites are Austin, Nora, Kara, Jay, and Mario who is unfortunately now gone....I think he is quite talented, however, he approached the challenges with very little enthusiasm and I think the judges picked up on that immediatley. Eventhough he put little effort into his designs they were wearable and salable so just imagine what he could do if he really gave it some more thought.

So when is the next installment scheduled to air? I'd love to see if I could wow the judges with my designs and land a coveted spot on season #2!
art_n_arch
Bravo to Bravo and the creators and producers of "Project Runway"! I've always enjoyed Bravo's programming, but this show rocks!

Finally, a reality show for people who don't like reality shows.

My mother is a fashion designer and master seamstress, so through her, I've come to appreciate and understand the art form we call fashion. She helped me understand the body in space and the importance of how things looked in three dimensions. Growing up and being surrounded by fashion, it truly is amazing what can happen from a bolt of fabric (or in the case of episode one, off-the-shelf items) to it's final creation.

I have no doubt inherited my mother's creative genes (thanks, Mom!), as I am now studying Interior Architecture. What I love about "Project Runway" is that while it focuses primarily on fashion, the challenges and creative process these designers face is the common paradigm among any designer(be it fashion design, industrial design, or architecture to name just a few other design professions where the outcome is something functional and aesthetic). It is this underlying creative process that intrigues me most, and Bravo has done an excellent job so far in presenting that.

In the end, it's bringing the art and business of fashion to the masses and people who probably never thought about fashion design beyond the Gap. This program demonstrates that fashion is not merely costume, but a unique, personal, and very immediate expression of who we are.

Well, Trixie, don't give up yet. I'm 43 and am still cooking up ways to find new opportunities in design education. I'm a college instructor - literature and writing. I love my job, but I also feel like there is something else I want to do to - fashion design. I paint, draw, sew, make jewelry and handbags, etc. I totally understand what Wendy means about her chances at a design career seeming limited at her age. I won't defend her godawful strategy, but I understand her sense of urgency.

I really liked Mario too because of his laxed attitude. It's one I share...don't like to worry. But they didn't get rid of him for ratings. The show is based on creativity and laxed as I am, and as much as I enjoyed his shower curtain design, he kept with the "simple is good" theme and it was his downfall. I like his designs and would wear them (if I were a size 2!) but even I knew that he was not challenging himself in a way that would impress the judges. He has enormous potential and I don't think he released it; if he had, he would have rivalled and been included among the higher rated contestants. I hope he comes out with a line because I would like to see what he can REALLY do!

The dresses from episode 2 were auctioned off. Does anyone know what happened to the clothes from episode 1? Were they all just thrown away? I would LOVE to have Austin's corn dress just to frame and hang on the wall as art. I suspect that enough other people would as well to make for one heck of an eBay charity auction.

.....Mario may have been good...we will never know...I think the judges saw his " I don't care attitude " and thought why should anyone work hard to get this guy thru if he has that sort of attitude...life can be very hard and if these people have gone to all this work to have a reality/contest for fashion design I don't think they are going to tolerate what can be possibly seen as a "prima donna" attitude....what do you think?

I absolutle love this show... It is sooo different from all those other reality shows. You can tell who has talent and who needs to try a little harder. Some of the ideas are so creative and original while others need some tweeking. I can not wait til the next episode.
