How well did the Fab Five make Ray's home a home to come home to?
What did you think about the wedding before he's sent away to Iraq?
Discuss it all here!

I've got to be the first! Mark and I are teary eyed through this entire episode, on a commercial right now. Having "been there, done that" as far as being spoiled by the Fab Five, crew, and producers, we cannot be happier that Ray and Maria and Marina were chosen! What wonderful people! so deserving. We just hosted a party for Karly's ex boyfriend (Marine)who's home from Afghanistan and is off to Iraq. We are so proud of our country's military. How wonderful of Bravo to do this for such a great deserving family.
Keep up the great work, Bravo & the fabulous FabFive

I just can't even say right now. THIS is how the christmas episode should have felt. Incredibly moving...pure emotion. The coupe was BEYOND beautiful - that wedding gown was out of a dream! And Ray was so composed up to the point where they split the heart - then it really hit him.
Our boys were subdued throughout the episode and I started to lose it when Carson said he was getting misty-eyed in the store. In the loft it was quiet time...appropriate behavior for the ocassion. This episode was prime, just beautiful and touching all around.

I guess we all have our likes and dislikes - for me it was a bit creepy. Was the little Mrs of legal drinking age? I dunno, our fav episodes do not include live ins...although it was a great bent to include such a military story...it did not make me tear at all (unlike so many prev shows).

I just finished watching your episode with Ray S. WOW! As a brother of a Marine currently depolyed in Iraq, this episode really hit home. It's not easy departing with a loved one on those terms, but the kindness and unselfishness they extended to Ray's entire family will be cherished for years to come, I'm sure.

Hi Roe and Mark,
I fully agree with you, what an emotional episode !!! The FAB FIVE outdid themselves with Ray and his family, it's going to be very difficult to top this episode.
Bravo did a wonderful thing by showing everyone what patriotism is all about. Let's hope that Ray and all of our Troops come home soon.

I was totally moved and blown away by this episode. I just cried openly when Ray gave her that broken heart and she kissed it before putting it on him. It really drives home (and I think somebody said it during the episode) that for every enlisted man/woman that we see in the media (magazines, newspapers, TV, and etc) there is somebody back home whose heart is aching. While my nightly prayers routinely include prayer for the mean and women overseas, I know that this family will be mentioned by name. May God bless them all and provide them with the strength and courage to weather the time apart. This is one guy/family that I hope gets profiled in some time of follow-up show... I am dying to know how things end up going for them all.

question! i can't remember the time when the song was playing but there was a really sweet love song playing in the background at some point previous to the final part of the show. i know that's unbelievably vague but it was a beautiful song! -- anyone know what it was? please?!

I'd been waiting to see this episode since I saw the previews for it last week, I cried through out most of it. It was soo touching to see them make over the home and everything they did for the family. I wish all the best for the family and hope he makes it home safe. I know the feeling of preparing for a deployment and the nervousness of not knowing if "that knock on the door" is going to come or not. Best of luck to him and his family.

Was this the best show ever or what? My dog of 13 years died Saturday and I didn't think I could get MORE emotional, but watching the Ray S. show tonight I had to fan my face with the tears. So touching and loving. This is by far the best story ever. The Q guys did an amazing job on this one. I was a bit disappointed they only got to go to JC Penney, but nonetheless the results were perfect.
Thanks for ruining my make-up tonight with the tears, guys. Please keep us updated on Ray Steele and his beautiful family.

I think Ted said it best. They both are so incredibly brave considering what they're facing. Ray's detail involves security. There's a high probability he'll be in dangerous situations. He and Maria both deserve so much respect and praise for their courage, along with everyone else in the armed forces right now making similar sacrifices.
I have to extend those accolades to the Fab Five and to everyone associated with QE for setting the exact right tone. This episode was a perfect mix of romance, light humor, honesty about what's to come, compassion, respect and honor.
I am deeply touched. May Ray and everyone else serving this country come home safely to their families.

I just have to say, this was the best episode ever. I love the fab five and what they do for these men and their families. But this one topped it for me! Being a military wife, I may be abit bias!!!! But you can just not imagine the true gift they gave that couple. Every aspect of what they did for them was... I can't find the words. Giving them ways to communicate...a GODSEND! I can remember saying buh-bye for 9 months and having NO communication, ZIP, NADA. The baby clothes part had me sobbing! my DH missed nearly EVERY birthday of the kids. The heart necklace.... oh, took my breath away at that part!
BRAVO.....JCPENNEYS....and especially the 5 GREATEST GUYS ON THE EARTH.....you all ROCK! THANK YOU from the bottom of THIS military wife's heart for what you all did for this family! THANK YOU for supporting our men and women in service. THAT really does matter to the loved ones left here at home! Our children SEE that and it matters....uh, oh...tears...LOL and that you included info on care packages....well, you had me as a fan before.... now you are stuck with me forever! LOVE YOU FIVE!

The most touching part was Jai holding a care package with the guys contributing. A link is at the bottom of Ray's episode page, which takes you to the hints page that has the link at the bottom. We can help our troops' lives be a little more bearable. I hope everyone contributes. I chose USO Care Package, for one reason because The Ellen Show is a sponser.

Even my husband stopped to watch it with me and when they exchanged the heart...my husband just squeezed me and held me tight.
I can not say Mahalo enough to Ray and his family for their service to our country.
I just hope that the time will go by quickly for them and that he returns to them safely.

I definitely agree with you KCee. My other half is in the Army, and it really made me realize what all those spouses go through when they are left behind for a period of time. As I watched this episode I cried my eyes out. The care and thought that those guys put into that night, and the care package they put together was so thoughtful. They have really outdone themselves on this one! Keep it up guys, I don't miss an episode. And by the way, why don't they travel outside New York?

It was one of the best shows.....a great way to start the new season...I could tell each of the guys gave everything they had for their particular segment,in doing this it was their way to show they support the troops. The tears were flowing, especially with Thom (love ya,for not being afraid to show how you feel). I only wish this episode could have been expanded to a 2 hr.season opener....I have a feeling alot of tape was left on the cutting room floor. My only wish for the thrid season is I hope they keep this same feeling going.... Carson,Thom,Jai,Kyan and Ted you show us why we LOVE each one of you more every day. The love, compassion, and talent knows no bounds.....it would be a honor to meet each one of you...

I know - generally I'm pretty bitter and jaded (to quote Ted) but I was weepy through this whole episode. I think they did a fantastic job and this episode made it clear what anguish everyone who gets sent to Iraq - or anywhere else as a member of the armed forces, but especially Iraq these days - has to go through. No matter what your views are on what's behind this war, there are a whole lot of people giving up a whole lot to go, and they're doing it voluntarily.

Holy moly! Look at all the newbies posting for this episode! I love it! Welcome one and all! And a big hug to old friends, Roe (& family), and John K. I can't say much about this episode that hasn't already been said. I just wish I had bought stock in Kleenex before it aired. My tears started when Carson's voice started to get choked when he was buying baby clothes for Sabrina from her daddy. Needless to say, my heart was in my throat every time Thom held Sabrina in his arms. When Thom put his arms around Maria and pulled her close to him to comfort her.....well, by then I was sobbing openly. The wedding was beautiful, Maria's dress was amazing, the bathtub scene, the necklace...but most poignant of all was the reveal in the loft. Ted, Kyan, Carson, and Jai kept looking over at Thom with such love and concern. Even though they all were moved to tears, it was Thom who seemed to be feeling it the deepest. My prayers are that Ray return safely as well as all others who are involved on either side of the war. There are no victors in war, only survivors. I hope that broken heart pendant will be one heart very soon and I would love for there to be a reunion episode so we can see Maria wearing it on a charm bracelet.

Welcome....so nice to see so many new posters! First of all, I want to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. As I've said before, I hope you find comfort in the knowledge that you provided your pet with a good life, with food and shelter and love. So many animals are abused and neglected and your dog was lucky to have a loving companion like you for so many years.
I was happy to see Thom take Ray to J.C. Penneys. I've been a faithful customer there for many years. After the earthquake, Penneys sent an unsolicited letter to customers in the earthquake area (like me) saying bill payments would be postponed for a month without interest fees with the hope that we would recover quickly from any ill effects we had suffered. (None of my other creditors did anything like this.....not even the high end department stores.) It's not a big deal, but I thought I'd mention it.

Welcome! I loved seeing your post...you add quite a unique perspective to the board. I would imagine being a gay man in the military has forced you to call up a lot of personal resources and puts a whole new face on the word "brave". All I gotta say(for all the Thommie fans) grab a soft kleenix and wipe Thommies tears! He's gotta be an emotional guy! Of course....did anyone notice that no one put their hand on his shoulder-to comfort him. All the Thom fans get in line to give him a big hug and wipe away those tears.
I loved it when the camera was like right in front of Thom, as he was shedding tears. Now if one of us Thom Wives got married to him, and one of us had a necklace w/ a heart charmbracelet that was monogramed, etc. He outta cry for that! Dreaming!
He looked quite cool, in his attire in this eppy. I liked his "off-white" pants....and him being so silly w/ that ribbon.
That crib that Thommie picked out was neat. Was it Carson who said "Uncle Thommie"????
And Maria, so lucky to get a snuggle face cheek 2 cheek w/ Thommie.
Was it her who gave Thom a hug and like stroked his back?
I didn't catch the full eppy.-
Thommie, of course, supplied the blankie-mine-just kidding

This is my first post to the board. With this episode, I am reminded yet again what a class act these five special men are.
I read a "critique" of the episode before it aired and the person who wrote it kept mentioning the lavishness of the products given to this family. While I can't disagree completely with that point of view, I must say that while Ray and his family could have gotten their needs provided for by a social service agency, they would not have gotten the care and love they received from the Fab Five.
Just my thoughts.
