Until the "Straight Girl" message boards are up and running, feel free to use this forum to discuss this show!

Hi Boss,
Have they given you an estimated time when QEFTSGirl's own message boards will be up? People tend to cross post, and posting about two shows could get confusing and crowded, especially for our members that have a limited time to read.
Thanks,

I want to like this show, but I have a hard time taking someone who has a stripper name seriously, not to mention someone with a stripper name who doesn't seem to have a role -- the others are for fashion, home design, etc., but Honey is just the token chick (or should I say, the token chick with the unfortunate name -- if my parents were mean enough to stick me with Honey Labrador, I'd change it).

I am not liking this first episode. It seems much more negative. Seemed crazy to have her exercise on the beach with little feedback-she looked like she could hurt herself the way she was doing the push ups! Hopefully, it will grow on me.

I really think they should have used 5 lesbians instead of only 1. I think it would have been a better match up with the Fab 5. THEN, they could do competition shows at the end of each series with the gays verses the lesbians. I would totally enjoy both shows!

Me being a girl and having previously wished I was a straight man so I could get made over by the Fab Five, I had great hopes for this show. But, I have to confess, I don't like it as much. Why couldn't the Fab Five do our show too!?! pout pout.
In the show's defense, its only been one episode and they have a tough act to follow. I have no idea what it is about the Fab Five (something about them having an amazing group chemistry and being freaking Hilarious!!!!), but no other attempt to imitate them has succeeded. I will continue to watch the new show, in the hopes that it grows on me (because I was really hoping on getting some fabulous tips on being more girly).
P.S. The all lesbian concept would be a nice spin but (and no offense sis!) the lesbians close to my life wouldn't have a clue how to help me with my makeup and heels (home decor, yes - fashion, no).

Actually, the more I watch, the more this show is growing on me a bit. It's still not nearly as good as our boys, but I expected much worse. I might even try to catch the next few episodes, see how it progresses.

I just want to say that I love Rebekah!! She's so wonderful!
Damon-I'm not too sure. His designs are wonderful, but there are certain things that I'm not so sure about. I mean the chairs in the dining room? Those could snag on someone's clothes and the person could walk away and end up undressing in the middle of the room! The couch I thought was a little out of place. I think it should have been a slightly brighter color and maybe going along with, but not matching, that little red table thingy in between the chair.
Danny-I'm sorry Isa, but he seemed a little over the top. I mean, stripping and then going for a swim? I'm sorry, but that seemed like he was acting for the camera.
Robbie-*gasp* I love him so much! Not more than Jai, but he is wonderful! The rollers! OMG! I'm getting myself a set of those! Back when I had long hair I always wanted my hair to look like that and I could never do it! I got so frustrated! I love him!
Honey-I don't have anything to say for her. I think she was there mainly for image. If its for a girl, there has to be a girl in the QE people. I don't know, it just seemed that she didn't do anything. The only thing she did by herself was get her a necklace, I'm sure Robbie could have done that.
I love Rebekah! I want to be her when I get to her age! (How old is she?) She is so gorgeous!

Oh shoot I'm still too lazy to figure out how to answer each paragraph, so I'll number them. I don't usually comment until I've them a few times, so this is just quick for now and the phone kept ringing.
1. I loved Rebekah too.
2. I'm not at all sure about Damon's style or personality.
3. I LOVE DANNY, he's like some of my guy friends. I would've stripped & jumped in right after him. My kinda guy! I may be shopping for a ring tomorrow.
4. I Love Robbie too. He's so funny & cute as can be.
5. Honey I've liked from the first preview because I have a friend who reminds me of her. But I think even if I didn't I'd still like her. Yeah she didn't do much this episode, but the video for tomorrow looks better. And it's fun to have at least one lesbian around, now that there are so many gay guys. And the guys' joking with her crack me up. What can I say, I love gay humor, guys or girls.

must agree. this is very lame. it all seems forced, too much like acting and i must say that the new decorator cannot touch tom for talent. in fact there is no charisma between them like the fab five have. do not plan to watch unless by accident. the original is always best in most cases.

Y'know, Danny's work is pretty good -- though not up to the level of Thom's genius, of course, his results aren't bad. But what I want to know is, why does Danny need the "hunky helpers"? Thom does his projects all by himself (OK, we know that's not true, or even possible for one guy in such a short time span, but that's the illusion we're given, that's what we're shown). Why does Danny need on-screen help?

Danny's British... the rest are American, afaik.
Nothing against the British, but I wonder, were there no American gay men left that were suitable to cast? I guess not, and maybe there weren't any good Brits, either, considering that out of four people on this show, only one has an actual background in what he's supposed to be teaching the girl about.
Nothing against the guys (or the girl with the unfortunate name), but I think that's what's missing in this show that makes our boys so much better -- three of them had solid expertise in their areas before the show (and Ted had enough of an interest to make himself food-smart enough to teach others, even though he doesn't have culinary training. As for Jai, his isn't a role you can really train for that much). It's hard for Robbie or Danny to teach the girl when they don't know much more than she does -- and as for Honey, how does one even approach the role of token chick? She could be like the Jai, but that's written into Danny's job as the TedJai, so to speak. This show is still entertaining, but we're not learning as much (and neither is the SGirl), and that makes it an inferior show, decent to watch but not a must-watch like the original.

If you saw last night's episode, what did you think of the facial on the rear cheeks? Okay, I was thinking of me and two others from the Tuesday show on either side of me doing girl talk!
I think I will watch this but the Tuesday boys still rule with me!
velaenventana

I thought the "rear facial" was a weird moment...we laughed but only because it was so strange. And what was with the boots still being on?! Tres strange.
I have to say...I'm another vote for using:
a) more lesbians...I have lesbian friends in Chicago who, like Honey, are incredibly stylish and would rock the house. They would be a great foil for the Fab 5...instead of trying to "recreate" them. (Which just isn't working for me.)

My husband (the macho, quiet Swede) even got SNARKY with me while watching this episode. I couldn't believe it. But--the chick was gorgeous! I liked it closer to the end when she discussed her dad and past...that seemed to really hit home. But otherwise, we both were like, "What? They do her place and dress her up. She has no cellulite. I'm not feeling this."
All in all...maybe this show needs to approach "straight girls" a little differently. The stereotype that QESGuy plays with so well is making guys more aware of their surroundings, their looks and their "inner selves". That's what makes it work!
If I could imagine the perfect QESGirl, it would be to make women more in touch with their confidence--with their bodies, with their self-esteem and with their ambitions. And also to be better to THEMSELVES. So...give me five lesbians with style and moxy who take a girl from Indiana with an 80's look who isn't secure about her ability to accomplish things who has moved to the big city. Have the ladies teach her rock-climbing, teach her how to be sexy without being 80's, coach her on how to be confident in conversation and also accomplish something that she has always wanted to do (like say "no" or try out a different job for the day). How to build in time for herself or create a space for herself.
So, Working Girl meets Outdoor Adventures for Women meets stylish, cool lesbian women.
That's a show I could get REALLY excited about.

One more thing... (and I'm only giving this feedback because I love LOVE QESGuy and want to see this new show succeed) ...Fab 5 flirting with a straight guy? It works and it is SO funny.
3 gay guys dishing about a straight girl? Not working and not funny. When the comment "OW! She could poke my eye out with those nipples!!" went flying, it sounded catty and not "funny/fond of" because it came from a gay guy and not a gay girl.
And that comment also made me a little sad. 'Cause I really want to like this show!

I give major credit to Nicole for being able to lie there, naked, a naked lesbian on one side of her, a naked gay man on the other side, her butt in the air and covered with seaweed goop, and just lie there, totally cool. I think I'd be a little uncomfortable, honestly, naked and on TV next to two other naked people.

I've been unusually busy & have had only time to watch them once. But I was thinking along the same lines, that the straight girls are much more relaxed than the men sg's about almost everything and throwing themselves on the guys with big hugs, you never see that on the original.
I'd be uncomfortable on TV period. That's pretty brave what a lot of the sg's have done esp like John Verdi & the spray on tan, etc. But off camera, I would've had a blast during both of these shows. Someone said something about Danny being a show-off stripping & diving into the pool. I guess she'd think the same thing about me, 'cause I've done that about 50 times. LOL! I forget who wrote that, no hard feelings at all!!! I totally understand, when I was a teenager I used to be really shy & that would've made me uncomfortable too.

Hi…I’m new to the board so I apologize if anything in this post is redundant.
I think The Fab 5 are a really tough act to follow. As was mentioned earlier they are cast extremely well PLUS they have prior “expertise” in the area in which they are working.
This isn’t so much true for the Gal Pals (ugh! what a name ) too many actor-producers not enough real life experience. Actually I’d like to see a lot more from Honey since she should have a lot of makeup and hair tips being a former model and all.
I really was hoping to see AT LEAST 2 women in the cast. 1 woman and the token in every sense of the word. Very disappointing. She’s stunningly beautiful and I hope she gets a lot more to do down the road!
Here’s my dream cast:
Trinny and Susannah from the BBC version of What Not to Wear (ok, ok they aren’t gay at least not that I’m aware but they are so fabulous! And SO much more supportive and better at providing useful information than their American counterparts), Honey, AND the Fab 5.
The other element that’s missing is that QE-Guy gives a lot more in the way of instructional tips to the fellas. So far all we’ve seen for the gals is wear this, eat that.
We haven’t learned WHY we should wear something if we have figure that looks like such-and-such or why a color looks better, best way to apply makeup etc. I think suggesting exercise as a long term goal to a woman is terrific…but the implication in the show was work out on the beach this morning loose 10 pounds by tonight….hmmm I was a teeny bit offended by that. Again show her how to dress for the figure she has now.
I’m hoping they just need time to settle in and maybe things will change up in future episodes or the producers will consider “guest appearances by a Fab 5’er?

Where do I sign up to try and get on? Cause I need help, badly.
Granted, I'd rather it be the original Fab Five, but since I am a female I don't think that'll happen unless I find out I'm somehow related to someone on Straight Guy. LOL
Seriously, I searched and searched the Straight Girl page and didn't find a submission form. (And I have to be honest, I actually did try the Straight Guy form simply because I am *that* desperate. LOL)

Yeah, I just don't know... it didn't keep my attention. The opening sequence is definitely not as good, and I feel as if the "Gal Pals" are left with too much to do. "Life," "Look," "Lady" and "Locale" are too vague - for example, "Look" is filling in the responsibilities that both Carson and Kyan do on QE! It would be better if they went more with the original thing, and I thought they'd have five lesbians... There HAVE to be five in this country that enjoy style!
I don't think I'll be watching it any time soon.

Well I gave the show another try and I'm sorry to say the repeats weren't interesting enough to watch. This article echoes pretty much how I feel: "'Queer Eye' spinoff lacks wit, charm of original series." Besides all the other problems mentioned, the most offensive to me is their music.
I still find Honey, Danny & Robbie fun for the first shows. This reminds me of our conversations about David Collins being so smug about how good they looked on camera. Honey rocks & Danny happens to be my type, Robbie is cute, but like the article says, that's no substitute for the substance, wit and charm of the original Fab 5.
I'm genuinely sorry about this. I didn't consider it competition for the original, I was hoping for another fun show. Bravo's about the only channel I watch.

I only watched the sneak peak episode of this show. I'm not sure I'm impressed because the porn-star-named lipstick lesbian did not have a discernible role. Hell, she didn't even flirt with the MB! It's bad enough that some haters have tried to diss Jai for this and people said some really bad stuff about Blair, but this woman deserves that criticism, IMO. My fave was the bald guy with the English accent. He was cool. I thought the blond guy was a Carson rip-off and the decor guy just didn't have Thom's charm. I thought the hunky helpers were a contrivance. As for the MB, her home wasn't bad to begin with, but I noticed in the beginning that her toilet seat was up even though she lived alone. WTF? Her hair wasn't bad to begin with, but that roller set looked gorgeous on her! I didn't care much for the pink top they picked out for her, even though she loved it. It was too tight and created a roll. She must've been really out of shape if all she could manage at the fitness boot camp were pu$$y push-ups. Come on, I'm tiny and even I can do regular ones. Besides, Kyan addresses that in the fitness section of his book. Females should be able to do regular push-ups. Now if only I was able to do the bouncing ones that Ky did in the Ross M. episode.

Does that make me a bad female, or something? I can't do push-up (and I mean that how it's written -- I can't even do one, not correctly). Maybe you have such an easy time because, as you said, you're tiny. It must be nice to be tiny, but lots of us are bigger (and yes, out of shape).

I'm sure that the show will improve but right now it's too much about the 4 and not enough about the straight girl. Who wants to show up alone for your spa visit to find the stars already getting the full treatment?
The Fab 5 use a lot of "you" when they talk ("What do you want to get out of this?"). The 4 say "I think" and then they put the girl in a shirt that she's not comfortable wearing so so doesn't look confident or good.
It is good that the show takes place on the other coast.

Like many others on this list, I wanted to like the show. I was left after the sneak peak feeling very disappointed. I decided to give the show another chance and try to enjoy the official first episode - but my mind kept wandering. I doubt I'll be back unless I have nothing better to watch:(
As you read this, keep in mind that I am a gay man. I love the Fab5 - but the GalPals simply drive me to distraction. For those in the LGBTQ-community who blasted the original for being too stereotypical, I hate to imagine what they'll say about this clique. One of the best attributes of the Fab5 is the range of their personalities. The producers stated that they took Ted and Carson as the bookends and endeavoured to fill in with three others - what happened to that wonderful idea with this Gang of Four? We have three gay men who are more stereotypically gay than Carson. I really can't remember much about any of them (that includes the one who dived into the pool). Moreover, the inclusion of this particular lesbian reminds me of the inane inclusion of the token female in the Boston-based pilot. The powers that be had obviously learned from that mistake in creating the Fab5, but had equally obviously forgotten when it came to this casting. That being said, I do believe that at least one lesbian should be part of the makeover group, as part of the magic of the Fab5 is the fact that they are guys like their MB.
I also am saddened by the lack of quality of the GalPals. It would be easier for me to watch if I felt I could learn as much as I normally do from the Fab5 - or if I'm not learning anything from them at least I'm enjoying their tutelage. (e.g. I don't need Kyan to tell me the wonders of yoga or massage - but I love watching him talk about them nonetheless.) I liked the description of the Hunky Helpers as a 'contrivance'. They were also a disappointment - if they are there to provide male eyecandy, give it to us, not the vague body views which we made do with.
Perhaps the best I can say for this program is that I'm very glad they picked a different number of helpers.

I really think they should have used 5 lesbians instead of only 1. I think it would have been a better match up with the Fab 5. THEN, they could do competition shows at the end of each series with the gays verses the lesbians. I would totally enjoy both shows!
Ditto! If you're gonna use 5 gay men, why not use 5 lesbians, too! I guess even in the LGBT community, women still get the shaft!

Hello, helo! Well, for those who don't know this yet, I'm from Brazil, and we don't have this how in here, just the regular QE with our dearest Fab5! The thing is, on MTV Brasil, there's a show named 'Mission MTV', and it seems to be so much like QE for the Straight Girl... I really didn't like this idea, I think the Fab5 are unique, and I got so upset to find out that there wasn't them who'd be on this show... :-( Really, it'd be very funny to see them on 2 different (but with so many things in common! lol) TV shows... I'd not mind at all to watch them twice a week! *wink* So, that's it, I'm not sure if this QE with girls is having a great view on the US, but I don't think Sony Entertainment Television (the cable channel who brought us the amazing Fab5!) will buy this other show... The regular QE has a huge number of viwers in here, I'm amazed! But in my humble oppinion, I don't think it'd be the same thing to turn on your TV and see that it's not Carson who's dressing up the person, that it's not Ted who's cooking, not Jai who's giving advices about culture and stuff, to see that there's not Kyan who's teaching how to apply the hair products correctly and to see that there's not Thom who's decorating the room... I'm sorry if someone here disagrees, but these guys are unique! :-)
