It was my impression that cashiers just say somethings like..."did you find everything okay...hi...how are you today"..."
Beyond that, in my opinion, is a little snoopy in customer's purchases. If anybody sees it as "making conversation", etc. That is fine

I recall getting quite annoyed at a bag boy making comments on several things I was buying - like a pint of ice cream, when he says "Wow, that's really expensive!!"

I'm thinking, "Will you PLEASE just bag my GROCERIES and try not to make comments on what a spendthrift I am, and how I really don't appear to need that pint of Haagen Daz and how maybe I ought to consider a bag of lettuce instead..."

Okay, he didn't comment on my poor nutritional choices, but it did annoy me. I was in a less than stellar mood that day, though, and didn't need chiding about being extravagant. Usually I don't mind a little chit-chat about what I'm purchasing.

I have noticed a difference when I go to mallshops in the lower 48; the employees inform you of sales about five times more and ask if you're finding everything okay about 10 times more. It's especially annoying when the same employee is telling you about a sale they just told you about 10 minutes ago. Of course, I suppose I'm just more used to my Gottschalk's in Alaska where there are much fewer people at once and the only person who asks if I'm finding everything is my French teacher who works a part time job in the underwear/lingerie section ("Pour quoi est-ce que tu cherches?")

In the final analysis, if I need to ask a question or if I need help finding a certain item - I will find you. Please, leave me alone so I can shop in peace.

I was wondering where the thread is too! I'll comment a bit and maybe it will up later.

Kyan and Carson together in a salon. Who to shampoo and who to cut?! Kyan and Carson do get paired together alot in episodes which I enjoy a heck of alot!

Notey said something about Carson's pants-I think this was your quote that he must have masochistic tendencies due to the tightness. Well, after watching the outtakes disc of Carson's well...maybe!

Yes, a flashback to Taybee and the internet lady friend who had that irritating laugh!
notevayas
Hi kyansutra...

Just for the record... it was my_guy_ky who wondered if Carson was a bit masochistic with the tight pants... and I think that was a joke.
I haven't received my 4pack of dvds from Amazon yet.. so I don't know about the outtakes. I just like that Carson seems OK with the SG's cuffs when he finds them, though I didn't appreciate him drawing blood with Ted when he drilled into his head during the "Alan" episode. I also didn't think it was safe when he strung Ted up by his suspenders on a closet door in another episode. Maybe we should worry about Ted! Maybe Kyan should do a hip tip on playing safe. He implied that he had experience with a real harness when he appreciated Steven Smith's enclosed shower.

Oh, I hate when the salespeople follow you around the store trying to help you and "no thanks, I'm just looking" doesn't satisfy them. There's an amazingly cool kitchen shop here that's much more like something you'd find in an actual city instead of in the boonies, but I'm hesitant to go in because they follow you around trying to sell you stuff. VERY annoying.

You're in Alaska! I listen to a radio station out of Juno - KTOO - because it has NPR news until noon our time. So I get all sorts of local Alaska news along with NPR. I'm listening to it right now.

This made me think of the Bravo Twins episode, where Thom is twirling Ted around over his head and Ted is yelling, "Safety meeting! Safety meeting!!" That was hilarious, but I was a little concerned for poor Ted, and his glasses!

Yup, I live in Alaska, but I've only been to Juneau once - it was last March for my Civics and Conservation Summit with Alaska Youth for Environmental Action... I met the coolest people, had an awesome experience, and Juneau was just BEAUTIFUL! The last night we were there, everyone had left but I had caught a later flight along with another girl from a small village. We spent the night on the town, and went downtown and there was this hip little place that served only palmani (sp?) the spicy Russian dumpling and you could pick your own records to play. I fell in love with the food! And I am not one for spicy things. It was just sooo good... and I haven't had it since. Anyone know where I could buy some at Costco? lol... I can't live without them!

I like to listen to KUDO 1080 up here - it's the new Progressive channel - and it has the Stephanie Miller show which I listen to on the way to school every morning, as well as Air America in the afternoon. The only am station I listen to besides NPR.

Thanks Notevayas for correcting me on the quote! Yes, it does seem that Ted is the one we should be concerned for. A few weeks ago Thom had Ted strapped down to the mattress and was trying to put him back in the wall. Well, the Ted Fans probably liked that though...
I missed the part about Kyan where he was talking about a harness while looking at Steve's shower. That is the only QE episode I don't have the full hour of. Woo! I would of remembered that part!

I've always wanted to visit Alaska. I hear such nice things about how beautiful it is.

Thank you cats4. I think my posts have improved recently. I'm glad you were not posting when I was more of a hothead! No one will ever come close to TTB's contribution to this board.
I have not had time to find her best posts yet, but when I do, I will occasionally bring them forward to inspire us. Don't be cautious about what you post. I have made so many gaffes and missteps on non-deletable, non-editable, Bravo board, that I am the last person who would want to embarrass anyone from dredging up posting error.
Please don't make me out to be a saint. I will disappoint you. I'd rather you think less of me and let me occasionally pleasantly surprise you.

Hey Susan,

Are you warming up to post on the naturist episode tomorrow?
I expect a full review from all the regulars and suspect the newcomers will enthusiastically post also! I think we could all wax poetic on the previews alone!
Right now I am watching a "Patrick" episode as I type this and I think I see what totallybisexual means about the fish. Ted left fish for Patrick to gut and clean as well as cook, and it was messy. I have gutted enough fish, and though they are mostly dead, it still feels like killing. I have no problem killing fish, but I won't buy live lobster. Go figure!
I also noticed that totallybisexual couldn't find any words to misspell in her 4 word post - "The fish last week" haha! Another affectation bites the dust!

If anyone is a Jai fan out on the boards. He has been seen at least 3 times on VH1's Awesomley Bad Break-up Songs Ever"
Songs are 15, 20 & 26

I saw a Car photo in Family Circle magazine(he ranks #1 for a shopping date)August 10, 2004 pg. 15

And what is this show 30 SECONDS, on FX tv?
kyansutra
Where I live this is about the 4th day of 90's and humidity.
This weather is VERY appropriate for tonight's episode! So break out any cooling devices people, I know I will! Now if this is because it's so dang hot outside or what I'm seeing on the television inside well...
tomasulo
kyansutra: It's hot here, too! Yup, for tonight's ep I'm definitely going to need a tall, dark and handsome......oh, sorry...my mind drifted....I mean I'm going to need a tall, cool drink! How many hours left 'til showtime?!?!?!

I think I already posted about the DVD here somewhere, because it's been available at some Walmart stores for about a week now.

I do want to have season sets because a season's worth of VCR tapes takes up an awful lot of room & the discs are much more durable & safer storage.

For those wondering whether or not to purchase the Red Sox episode, I'll tell you that it has OUTTAKES and DELETED SCENES! There's a standard opening sequence which they chose not to air (instead airing that Red Sox history thing), and lots more clips of joking around in the locker room. Let's just say that Carson was not the only one with that cup on his face.

Hopefully, if they ever do get around to issuing the season sets, they'll have some Deleted Scenes from each episode, and better yet, the fellas doing commentary to some of them!

However, there were more QE episodes in the first season than are in a usual TV season. It wouldn't surprise me to see them split the seasons in half when they issue the sets.
tomasulo
I think virtually everyone already knows about the Red Sox DVD...my hope was that people will post rave reviews on the Amazon site so that it will help the sales. If you pull up the item, Amazon allows you to rate the DVD and write your opinion of it for people who are thinking about purchasing it.

Hello everyone, (I had a theory and it worked - or hoping it does )

Just bounced over from Carson's village (a long journey over rough terrain)to ask you worldly Bravo Boardriders if, given that in Australia noone can get any of the FF, perhaps there is anyone out there with info as to when QE will be shown again in Australia. It's about to start again in Canada (hurrah!!) but Oz is a loss.
Your info would be incredibly appreciated.
thank you, sim

Well, I am going on vacation, so it will be close to August before I post again. Keep the snark fires warm for me.
You know, when I misspell as I often do, it is because I am a dunderhead, not because I am looking for attention. Kids! When I come back, I will be over-the-hill at 29. That's 58 in gay years I'm told.. but if 3 straight days in the QEuniverse is one gay day.. shouldn't that mean that I am almost 10?
I wanna go to Disneyland!

Thank you, dear note, as you may know, that was my 1st troll so I squeezed . . . nice 'n' tight
You have a wonderful holiday, have oodles of fun, travel safely & know that we look forward to your invigorated return.
I like this gay days thing - makes me a teenager again. In women's years you just count backwards once you hit 30. So in our eyes you'll be 28 again in 2 years' time! Carson, Thom, & Kyan are all Jai's age and Ted's a teen like me!!
Hmmm, back to the village - bestwishes, sim
kyansutra
I just went to Ted's site which is still in progress but he has a site. Which leads me to my next question. There is only one guy who doesn't have a site yet-Kyan. Do you think he will ever have one?

And are Thom's and Ted's DVD's coming out this week in the stores? I thought it was but at the Best Buy in my town last week they had a little sign like it was there already and the guy said they were there and they weren't getting any more? And I asked about the Red Sox DVD and he said they had nothing like that on their computer but I went over to Walmart and there were 6 copies. They're not my first choice but that's the only place in town I saw them at. Definately, worth the money-keep it up guys with the bonus footage!

This may have been answered later down, and I'm not defending WalMart BUT, actually the company that released the CD did an alternate cover for many stores, not only WalMart--it's the CD company's fear of offending folks here rather than specifically WalMart's censorship.

hi all you Fab 5 fans out there....
wow, its been about 6 - 9 months since I last got on these forums and there it litterally hundreds of new messages in the Fan Forum alone.. all the others had over 100 messages there.
To be honest with you, im sort of not into QE as much as I used to be because it doesnt air in Australia anymore.... it hasn't been on in about 5 months. I am still a fan and I am really missing it, but I refuse to watch Aussie QE, which hasnt been on in about 3 - 5 months, because I want the original boys back!!!
Anyway, I'll try and get on more regularly to read whats happening with our Fab 5 Boys.

Oh ICK!!! I absolutely hate that show and that man--to me he is the same as Rush Limbaugh at the other end of the right/left shock spectrum. And what people see in watching him on tv as he talks to naked folks is beyond me! Talk about pixilated--why would anyone want to watch that? (I'm not talking about you, D_D--not criticizing you. I just don't understand the fascination that the general public has had for several years)
I wish the Fab 5 had never gone on that show!
SLB _,,/
And yes, I know, some would say I'm being hypocritical because I really enjoyed Jim's show but for me there is a BIG difference between Jim and the folks at his party enjoying themselves and Howard Stern ogling naked women and discussing their bodies. This (to me) is what nycplaywrite was really complaining about--the exploitation!

I don't know why I'm saying this, but Kyan just seems too modest to ever have a website, though I could certainly see him with a blog to share his ideas and feelings with people.

And you can't really call Jai's "official" site a true one; it's never updated, which annoys me to no end because it reflects badly on him. I swear I would even be willing to take it over, which is a testament to how bad I think it is, 'cause heaven knows I have a full enough schedule. But, honestly, he's talented and deserves better representation then that site affords him professionally and personally.

That show is icky too, I agree. But, I recorded the Fab 5 for a friend.
I loved seeing THOMY be silly
design_daddy
He probably does not want one or is putting a fansite together(in the works)
Are Jai's & Ted's more fan type sites? photos and fun stuff???
totallybisexual
jai should get someone esle to do his site the lack of updates is just sad
tszuj-it
Ted's (addy is www.tedallen.net) isn't running yet, DD, it's in the building stage, but according to the intro page there will be recipes, photos and articles. I have the idea it'll be a bit more business like than Carson's, not that his isn't great, but it'll maybe have more information. I'm thinking a cross between Carson's (which is clearly for fans) and Thom's (which is for (potential) clients and not so much QE viewers).

Jai definitely needs a new one. I think it's been his site for a long time and is run by someone who knew/knows him, but if his career's going to progress beyond occasional returns to Rent and stuff, he is going to need a real site. Not to mention the layout is horrible.

Jai, not only needs a new site, but a new agent as well, or at least a friend who cares enough about him to keep him from making the career choices he has the past year or so (not to mention the interviews). He does seem seriously misguided, and you know how much it kills me, of all people, to say that.

The "official" site is done by a "Rent" fan who is far too busy with her own life to put much time or maintenance into it. I'm not sure she's really that interested in Jai anymore anyway; I think she's more interested in the prestige she gets from others by saying she's in charge of the site. At least, that's the impression my few attempts at contact with with her have inspired.

He should get someone else to take over the site, or at the very least, ask her to remove the "official" from the title.

Quote:

When it comes to switching teams, "Queer Eye" culture guru Jai Rodriguez may be up for being traded.
"I like girls, too," he told us at Cain Wednesday night, as he headed out the door with a hot babe. "When I signed on to the show I didn't realize I was going to have to always be gay."
NY Daily News, 7/21.

Because I have such love for him, I'm going to consider the source on this quote and choose to not believe it. But honestly, if Jai said this, whatever the motivation, even if it IS true, he must either be terribly naive or have no idea how his words can be used to harm others.

There is a group here in Memphis called "Love in Action" whose sole purpose is to "convert" gay youth away from the so-called "gay lifestyle" and "heal" them. All in the name of religion, of course. There's an article about them on advocate.com, issue 943 entitled, "A Tale of Two Zachs," if you're interested.

Anyway, not long after I had been warned from a sweet friend online about this piece (Thanks, hon!), I get a phone call from a fellow teacher who is furious. For the past year, her son's best friend has been stalling his parents' desire to get him in the program until he could start college in the fall and be out from under their roof for good. He's used all kinds of information from PFLAG and other worthy organizations to help his parents realize that their honor roll son is not a deviate and this is not a choice. Even though their church taught otherwise, they were starting to listen to their son. Then today, the mother was sent a copy of this article from a church friend in NYC and called my friend excitedly stating, "If one of Queer Eye can go straight, there's hope for my son, too!" Argh. I'm so frustrated I could scream. We're back to square one, and there's still weeks to go until the semester starts. Thanks, Jai.
