Thanks, I will. This issue is a real thorn in my side because I have two friends who spent YEARS in therapy thanks to these groups, and one died still alienated from his family because of the group's conviction that "he could stop desiring men if he really wanted to." Then there are the kids I get to teach who are the products of broken homes because their parents tried to "be normal" by marrying and having a family, then decided to be honest again.
Oh well, it's been a rough day but I'm off to the cinema to escape. Write me if you get the chance.

Seems like he's up to his tricks again. I'm sure he doesn't realise the impact his words and actions can have because he's a sweet guy really, if a little misguided. I suppose he thinks it's all harmless fun and good for his career(?) But like you I feel love for him and can understand how he's desparate about moving on after QE. I also can't help feeling sorry for him, although in a perverse way he's probabaly enjoying all the curiosity about his sexuality as he likes to feel like a 'celeb'.
It's so sad when you tell us what some young people are going through, the pain and misery in trying to 'conform', all the time trying to appease their parents and families. I nearly keeled over when you mentioned an organisation to help 'heal' these kids! Unbelievable. Sometimes religion has a lot to answer for.
As an afterthought, I'm would dearly love to know what the other guys think about Jai's latest stunt, especially as Ted and Carson defended him the last time. Poor old Ted, he's probably tearing his hair out! He's so lovely.

Just read the news supposedly about Jai as quote in the NY Daily (a rag)! I believe that quote about as much as I belive that I'm not a Lesbian! Which I am! People have to realize that everything that you read, especially in a paper that uses "Yellow Journalism" isn't true.
Think about the quote "I didn't realize that I wouold always have to be gay". Come on now! Plus, from what i understand he has male relatives that look a lot like him. The media has to stir up some kind of contraversy (sp).
Also he could have been seen with a friend. This is totally out of character for him. Contrary to things that you may have heard. Just ask some of his friends!
A friend.

I have to agree, not everything you read in those "rags" is true. Anyway, someone on the LJ site saw Jai a couple of weeks ago with a guy, very snuggly and loving. So I think Jai is gay, or even if he is bi, he goes for guys. Let's face it, when you're famous...someone, somewhere is going to find something negative to write about you. It goes with the territory.

You're right. I posted my comments before I knew Jai had a boyfriend. I'm pleased to say I stand corrected! I hope Jai had nothing to do with the interview and his so called comments did sound very similar to the last NYD article. I just wonder where it came from if not from Jai or his PR.
Like you say he could of been with a friend as I've read he has a few female ones, especially from his Broadway days.
You signed as 'A friend'. Do you mean a friend of Jai?

This is what was confusing me because some very reputable sources were saying this, and then to read the other, even knowing the trashy source from whence it came had me disturbed, mainly though because it was hurting someone innocent.
I'm really happy for him; it sounds like he found what he was looking for. : )

Let's not forget that Jai is still very young (25....26?) and may still be doing some sexual searching and experimentation. Perhaps he could have phrased his words a little more carefully but he's really not obligated to "confess" anything. "To thine own self be true", Jai. In this tough world where we see such examples of hate every day, I could never condemn or even chastise someone for seeking love....or even a fairly reasonable facsimile of love....whatever gets you through the night. Jai, I wish you well in any and all future relationships.

Oh my ghod....thank you! I was so afraid that it was going to appear that I was insensitive to the serious issue that had been addressed previously, i.e., hiding, lying about, or denying one's sexual preference out of embarrassment or fear and the possible consequences of that kind of repression. It's terrible when that happens to young people, but it's too big a burden to lay on Jai's shoulders or anyone else who is just trying to find their own path.

You're definately kinder than I am; I think it's because I'm with teenagers all day, I can guarantee you that 26 is NOT young. I personally don't care who he sleeps with; it's his business, but to say you signed on to Queer Eye not knowing you had to be gay is just the height of hypocrisy. I understand his motives, but I don't have to like it, and to be honest, I think it will eventually backfire in his face. The public is not always so forgiving when it feels lied to.

I'd prefer to believe that 26 is young since I have a 23 year old daughter and a son even older than Jai....but getting comfortable with your lifestyle can happen at any age depending on the individual. I really wish Jai had worded his remarks about QE differently but it's impossible to know what exactly he said and under what conditions. (What are you saying, Tomasulo?!?! Carson joked about the wife and kids early on and I made a mistake of repeating it May of 2004 and everyone thought I was a nut.. I mean before they knew I really was.
Jai may have been talking tongue-in-cheek, or his agent may have suggested that he show a bit of ambiguity to make him more saleable for more roles. "Out" gay actors do not have as much access to straight roles as other actors.
As laudable as the move to more sentimental shows may seem, I think it heralds the endgame for Queer Eye. I have not seen more than snippets of the last two episodes but I am willing to bet that the straignt guys were both treated with kid gloves. Once the Fab 5 stop shaking up the straight guy a touch, the show turns to pablum. Just as well.. Ever since GE via NBC bought Bravo, the channel has turned into a cesspool. Can You Say - Showkids/Bobby Brown?

Hey, notey, welcome back!
I think your comment falls into the "ya can't please everybody" category. The Fab 5 were pretty easy on Gary and Lee (although Jim....forever known as The Nudist...received a bit of the rough treatment you seem to love ). It wasn't too long ago that some board members were upset because a couple of SG's were well off financially and didn't really need all the merchandise they were given, but it was a relief to everyone except Richard Miller's mother to see that toupe get BBQ'd! (Thanks again, Fab 5!) Maybe they'll be tougher on the next SG.....he looks like he needs a lot of work.) I personally like the way QE is mixing it up this season....a lot of laughs, a few tears....heck, it's like my job! (Oops, didn't see you standing there, boss....I was just kiddin' ) Anyhoo, variety is the spice of life....and if I use one more cliche' I'm going to make myself nauseous. I don't want to pretend that I should get any of the credit (blame?) for some of the changes, but last season I sent an e-mail to QE/Bravo suggesting that they make-better a handicapped person or someone facing difficult challenges or disabilities. I don't think I wield that much power but it's quite probable that they received similar suggestions from other fans.

Did you go to the Bravo site and listen to the end of Ted's podcast? They are totally changing the show to appeal to grandmas in Pensicola and sponsors like Pepsi Cola. And just when the show is a vague pleasant memory, we will be able to order the videos, like we can order videos of "The Twilight Zone" and other shows that flashed and faded and were ahead of their time.
.. and before you know it, after Queer Eye's charm and momentum is squandered and Bravo continues to travel the low road and cater to the lowest common denominator (now that GE via NBC owns it) one day the entire series will be on DVD and the Fab 5 will be free and clear to speak freely if they wish.

I've written this before, and I'll say it again .... Well Peeps, they have changed the show. Whether it's for the better or not remains to be seen. Maybe the show has finally "jumped the shark", but for now I'll continue to enjoy it because seeing the direction Bravo is taking, I doubt that the show will be around after the contracts end.
Early on, I read that Ted was keeping a Journal of the whole experience. Maybe when the show finally ends, he'll be the one to write the "Queer Eye Dearest" novel and we'll find out what really went on behind the scenes with these decisions.

Hey KCee,
I get your point; I really do. But while I critiqued individual shows, I always said that the format was genius for entertainment but it took these guys (Carson and Ted mainly) to pull it off. And I'm sure they can pull off "Queer Eye Lite". I just wish they didn't have to because it tells me that they have totally given up on a male audience and are just riding out the popularity with women based on the commercials.
It's no accident that the commercials have vastly changed since the outset. Advertising drives and colors content more than anything else. And you can include cable and network news in that statement which is considered entertainment also and rated accordingly. For all I complained about the Orbitz gay travel ads and second rate booze, I much prefer them to Crest White Strips and vacuuos ladies magazines like Allure.
I think the Fab Five can see as well as anyone that Bravo under GE/NBC has turned from an Arts Channel to a Cheap Joke. I have been a loyal fan since the outset when almost every gay site was talking "gay minstrel" - before their breakout success garnered them awards and praise. I would not in any way try to diminish the good these men have done. But this is "in house" and between the fans, and so I don't feel disloyal to express my discouragement with the "new direction" because it will kill the ratings and shorten the life of the show.
But maybe I should look at it another way entirely. I should be willing to let the show go, and be glad that it is going out on the highest road possible. Maybe the Fab 5 feel this way also. No.. you "can't buy love" but you can buy great entertainment. The best shows were in the first and second season when the budget was not as huge and the guys worked miracles with pure talent, and the straight guys were unsuspecting and totally bowled over with the help. There's no way to recreate that now, but the casting people have overcome that to give us, in the main, great shows regardless, and even when the SG is a dud, the Fab 5 made "it" happen anyway.
I missed the last two "uplifting episodes" but I bet that the straight guys were over coddled and for me, shaking up the straight guys is half the fun. And now we are getting A CIRCUS ACT?? Under other circumstances it might be fun, but SHARK<SHARK<SHARK! jumping now..

I'm not exactly sure if you should include Twilight Zone in the "flashed and faded" category. The first TZ ran for 5 seasons 1959-1964 and the second TZ lasted 3 seasons 1985-1989. That's more than a flash especially when you consider it spawned at least one movie and continues to be shown in TZ marathons. Everyone on the face of the earth still recognizes the TZ theme and you can't mention an episode without peeps of all ages commenting, "yeah, I remember that one!". Sorry...I got a little carried away. The mere mention of QE ending throws me into a panic so please forgive me if I misunderstood your meaning or over-reacted which is totally possible. I simply cannot imagine my life without Thom and QE.....and I don't care if I sound pathetic so let's not even go there! All I've watched so far are the outtakes on Thom's second disc. Fun stuff! Somehow I get the feeling that Thom is a very talkative fellow. One of Thom's accents scared the rest of the guys & left them speechless. LOL
Ted's second disc, like the Kyan/Jai disc, contains music instead of outtakes. But this time it's what they describe as "A collection of funky, sexy lounge tracks... ". I've listened to the first couple of tracks and it sounds like light jazz. If the rest of it is like this, I'll like it. (Still, I'd rather have the outtakes.)

I didn't realize Thom's were that much shorter than Carson's - I watched them late at night and all I had time to watch from either were the outtakes. I was peeved that nobody else got any outtakes, though. And don't quite get the music stuff, although I admittedly haven't even OPENED those yet.

The Thom & Ted DVDs are out!!! I just received mine from Amazon, so I'm assuming that they're in the stores too. (That may be a bad assumption, but if they're not there yet, they should be soon.)
Yay!! I got mine yesterday too. I've watched Carson's and Thom's outtakes, and laughed till I was in tears. Those alone were worth it. And the stuff on the Rex Sox one that was cut from the show was quite good too. I was VERY pleased, after being a little afraid it was all going to be bits from the shows and 5 minutes of outtakes.
Post subject: 4 Pack
Hey everyone,
My DVDs were just delivered today because I am cheap and choose the Free Shipping option. I ordered the 4 pack and of course I watched Carson's outtakes first. And then a bit of this and that.
They were all excellent, but Thom's was exceptionally so. It had my favorite epi.. the Butch show WITH the full themesong and beginning. From the outtakes, Thom is as snarky as Brooding Soul. I thought I had him pegged as some fussy designer who preferred pristine white couches and 300.- sheets that never got wrinkled. Wrongo.
One thing that is edited out of the show is how much booze greases the wheels of this show. Maybe they should get a driver. Seriously. And I just realized how they would laugh at my little town and how much I would despise the noise and crowds and commercialism of New York City.
I am still a fan. And I seriously covet Carson's shirt collection. Lets see how this circus show goes tonight.

Well gang, after reading all your posts I'm gonna see if my local Best Buy FINALLY has it's act together and I can get Ted and Thom's. In the last few weeks they have had stickers posted for the DVDs like they were in stock in the store when they weren't. Ya, just keep teasing us Queer Eye Fans won't you?! I still wish ALL of the guys DVD's would of had outakes.
Glad Note you are still a fan. And I will probably be like Tomasulo when it ends-I'll be sitting in a bar listening to Frank Sinatra on the jukebox...oh well, that won't happen for a long time I hope! And unfortunately I missed the guys on Regis yesterday! I was already at work when it was on-now if I had my old work schedule I woulda been home.
Oh well, to quote Carson on his outakes disc "When life hands you lemons, add vodka. Cheers Carson!

A little more info ...
The Thom discs contains the Thom clips, outtakes, and the George K episode.
The Ted discs contains the Ted clips, written recipes!, and the before-mentioned music.
Was it George or Butch's episode on Thom's disc? I thought it was Butch but may be confused. I didn't have time to peruse all of them since we not only got all those DVDs but had ordered several CDs as well. So it was just a happy media-filled evening.
Glad there are recipes on Ted's - I was hoping for more outtakes as well, but recipes are good.
You're right, I think it was the Butch episode on Thom's DVD. I received my set yesterday, but the only things I've watched so far have been both of Thom's DVD's (of course!) and Carson's outtakes. I wrote reviews on the Amazon website for the QE 4-pack as well as for Thom's individual DVD. I want to encourage peeps to write glowing reviews at Amazon.com so that hopefully the sales will be good and we can look forward to more DVD sets.
OOPS, my bad. Yes it was the Butch episode. Sorry.
I do wish they did outtakes on the Kyan/Jai and Ted discs. As I said somewhere, I find it hard to believe that they couldn't find enough stuff to make even a short set for each of them. While I kinda liked the music on the Ted disc (sorry, didn't like the stuff on Jai's), if I wanted a music CD, I would have bought a music CD.
Still, the discs are good for what they are. I still would like to see the season sets though - with more outtakes - with commentary from the Fab 5 - with interviews - etc.

I can do personal e-mails...I don't think I've received a size limit...oh, well...I don't know what else to do...guess I'll just have to wait until someone tries to write to me...

I was cheap and waited for the free shipping too, and didn't mind since it gave me something to look forward to. Naturally, I ordered some CDs last week and everything came on the same day, so it was like Amazon Heaven for a few days and I still haven't had time to watch everything.
I agree about Thom's, although he's been my close-second-favorite due to his snarkiness for ages. His outtakes were hysterical. I even enjoyed the clips from the show (what I've seen so far, at least) and I usually don't care for "best of" things.
My only complaint so far (aside from the lack of outtakes for the other three, whose discs I -horrors- haven't even opened yet) is the ads at the beginning that you CAN'T SKIP. That's annoying.

I heard from De yesterday (as I'm sure many of you did) and she asked that I send BIRTHDAY GREETINGS to Notevayas and to Tom's Teddy Bear.
So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU FROM DE!

Signladybc,
No message for me, so please tell De that I thank her for the birthday greeting.
Raindog,
I despise the commercials on the DVDs. I am repulsed by the ad for Sportskids Moms and Dads the most because I think that exploiting children with bad family situations for entertainment is unethical bordering on criminal. And they should have included Carson's Pepsi commercial.

Hi De-hope all is going well for you!
I agree Note Carson's Pepsi commercial and for me also Kyan's L'oreal commercial!
No Thom and Ted at Best Buy, Walmart or anywhere in my town!
Either shopping somewhere else or online for these.

Hey, is it me, or did Thom get short-changed on the outtakes? Of the two discs, Carson gets an entire disc devoted to him being goofy/smutty, and Thom gets an episode shoehorned in and maybe twenty minutes of outtakes? What gives?
And gee, Bravo, thanks a lot for opting to make Ted and Kyan/Jai's bonus discs glorified CDs. Thanks bunches.
Yeah, okay, you know what? If I hadn't been so busy being a snotty little bee-yotch, I'd have noticed that John Bargeman's episode is also on Carson's disc. Boy, is my face red! That'll teach me to post when I'm in a lousy mood.
I still don't like the glorified CDs, though. Not one bit.
