Heeey! First of all, WELCOME TO THE BOARDS, hun!!!
Geez, I love this show too, obviously, and I think that this show is a good way of showing people that being gay is not a crime, is not a bad thing; it's good to show that gay people also have a good heart, because we all know that our boys are terrific!!! I have lots of gay friends and I love all of them, in fact, they're my BEST friends ever! I'm a straight girl, by the way, my name is Nathalie, but you can call me NAT, I'm from Brazil and I'm turning 19 on this next Thursday, March 3rd... My fave FFver is DEFINATELLY Ted!!! What's yours? Tell us more about yourself, okie?
Hey, welcome and enjoy the boards!!!

Thanks hun.
I don't think I would die though. I mean, Jai is my favorite and all, but he's not why I watch the show. Granted it was his face that made me stop flipping the channels when I was bored, but he's not what keeps me here.
The fact that they transform the guy is what keeps me here. Sure, they're all wonderful, but its really the guy's life that makes me watch the show. Its when they take Mike S. who didn't know how to expand his business and meet him up with execs from the motorcycle business that keep me watching. Its the fact that almost all of their tips can be related to both men and women, and the application of those tips that keep me here. Its the humor they show and the chemistry with each other they have that makes me watch.
Ted has taught me more about booze and cooking than I ever would have learned on my own. I didn't even know what a cabernet sauvignon was until I started watching this (which is rather good since I'm underage, but that's not the point). Thom helped me to redecorate my room at college, it was all neutral colors and then he helped me figure out which bright colors would be good to bring into the mix. Carson helped me immensely. I can pick out outfits that no one else would be able to (or at least that's what some of my friends tell me). When I went to college, I put a dryer sheet in my suitcases; when my shoes were dirty, I cleaned them the way he suggested. Kyan helps me to relax. I kept good care of myself before, but where I really needed help was in the relaxation department. Unfortunately for me, what helps me to relax also causes stress. So that's a never ending cycle for me. He helped me to break it when he said to take 10-15 minutes a day to just do nothing. At first it backfired, making me think of things that lead from one to the next, occupying my thoughts for the next hour, and then for the next four hours. Finally, I learned to control that and just sit and think about nothing and doing nothing for ten minutes and just meditate. It helped my stress level immensely.
Jai though, he hasn't really helped me. Sure I bet he helps a lot of people, but he hasn't helped me except to serve as a role model for a young Hispanic girl who is working to achieve her dreams. My dreams are not nearly as big as his were, but mine are just as important. He helps me to realize that I can do what I set my mind to.
If I had grown up differently, he would make a bigger impact on my life, but I was thrown into leadership when I was 13, working with people in Washington, Idaho, and Panama. At 15, I was in charge of 12 girls, some older than me, and was expected to lead them for the next six months, earn over $1000, get new members, and be a leader at the statewide conference. At 16, I worked with people in Washington, Idaho, and Georgia, making sure that everything was going as it should. At 17, I was in charge of the sporting events of over 1000 people in Washington and Idaho. At 18, I was named one of the best in Washington and Idaho and given a spot on the team reserved for the 13 best in the jurisdiction. At 19, I took on the Vice Presidency for the Hall I live in at college. Through all of this, I held at least 13 other positions, honors, and awards in different organizations, helped over 20 organizations, and helped to earn over $350,000 for the National Children's Cancer Society over a period of five years.
Nothing Jai could have said would have made a difference in all of that. Nothing Jai could have, or did, say would have helped me because I already knew and lived what he was teaching the straight guys, except for the "Yes kazirm kazee" (I love you) thing from John B.
My point is that, if Jai left, I would still watch and I'd love the show only slightly less. But only slightly. Jai has the hardest job of all. Most of it can't be taught, it has to be experienced. I admire his courage for taking on a job that is this hard. To be a gay guy out for the entire world to know, to try and 'teach' the straight guys, to being a role model for aspiring actors, to being a role model for Hispanic kids, its a lot for one guy to handle and I admire the courage of Ted, Thom, Kyan, and Carson as well!
You know what I would like to see? I would like to see a show all about them, Kyan, Carson, Ted, Thom and Jai. Show us a day in their lives, let us have a little more insight as to what it takes to put this magnificent show together. Let us go with them as they go through the day. Show us how they do what they do.

I got Kyans book yesterday and whilst it is incredibly interesting and informative I also found it quite funny. I like that he added in a few little funny comments and things.
Who knew Kyan got the hair from his back laser removed?! I think him referring to himself are the best bits though as he is saying that he looks that good now but it takes work to look that good and we all need a bit of help. If he was just saying I'm gorgeous, you're not then it would be a pretty rubbish book!
I've been thinking about the idea of getting braces for a while now even though I'm 24 but my teeth could use it but after reading that he has them its help me to know that even people with seemingly perfect teeth get help. To be honest I can't see why he needs them but if he feels he does then its up to him.
Have there ever been any pics of him wearing his brace? I know there probably arn't. Are there any pictures of his tattoo?

I don't think there are any photos (they airbrushed is tattoo out of the photos in the book) but you can sort of see it the times he's been shirtless on the show. I have a few screencaps in my photobucket account, here:
http://photobucket.com/albums/0903/derekevansAnd you're never too old to get braces. I only got mine off last year, when I was 21, and I never regretted getting them. My orthodontist said she had quite a few adult patients.

Aren't ALL of their contracts up in 2006? When they renegotiated that contract, they went in as a united front just like the cast of Friends did. So until they, or Bravo/Scout, tells us, we'll just have to wait to see what the future holds and enjoy the show while it's here. (And keep hoping for that danged DVD set!)

I'm with KCee on this one. I'm not much into sports, but this guy sounds like kind of a jerk. I mean "the more you pick on the Fab 5, the better?" I do agree, but note he says "they were telling me the more picking on..." They meaning the producers/director/whoever. I've heard before they are conciously trying to engineer more conflict on the show, and I know when they were casting for the England episodes they made a big deal out of wanting to find someone who would "fight back" against the Fab Five. They deliberately were/are trying to avoid makebetters who are going to be all nice and "oh, I'm so clueless, I need help, you guys are the greatest." That doesn't mean the guy isn't a jerk, because obviously some of the guys are still nice in spite of that - Simon B seemed really happy to have them there and appreciative of everything, even if he was really scared about having his hair cut - but I'd blame Scout, too. I just think if that's what they're looking for it's such a bad idea and too typical reality TV show. Most of my favourite episodes have been the nice ones - John Z, Richard, Jeff, Mark Faries. Sure, Alan Corey was kind of fun as a one-off, but that's not what I watch to see.

The show was never intended to help gay rights, and whether it has or not depends on where you're getting your information. However, I do agree that artificially creating conflict is not the way to go. They've got to let any reactions be real or else they'll ruin the show.

I concur that creating conflict on purpose is a terrible idea. It'll ruin the postive, feel-good vibe that originally made the show so enjoyable. Eps like John Verdi showed how the initial tension between the straight guy and the Fab 5 dissolved once the guys got to know each other. That kind of conflict was interesting because it was genuine and you saw a real change and appreciation from the straight guy afterwards. What the producers are aiming for now is apparently an imitation of that, but it totally undermines the postive engery the show was built on.

I've been catching up on all the posts today and I want to put in my comments on Carson this week on Jane Pauley and Independent Spirit Awards Carpet Arrival show.
First Jane Pauley: I just loved this! I didn't get to see it till late Friday night. I loved seeing his growing up years and also his family. His head is on very straight in my opinion and if the ego got away all he has to do is head back to that farm in Pennsylvania and that will do it. I also liked seeing all the childhood pics and the high school visit. And the scholarship program was wonderful too. And George K.'s mama losing 55 lbs.-she looked great!
Naomi mentioned something about Kyan being on Jane Pauley too? I so hope so and if it could be a program like this one I would be very happy!
And I just watched my tape of Carson's turn on the red carpet interviewing the celebs. When I saw him and Robin Williams I thought here's a summit meeting of wit! And Carson was as sassy as ever and I just laughed when he was going through the tent where all the swag was and his comments! I only wished I had seen last year's show also!
Great job on both shows Carson!

I'm cheating, because I actually have two favorites. No court in the land can convict me! Ted - Well. He's got a lovely warm Midwestern voice, a crooked mouth, he can cook and he reads and he loves music, and now, with the five o'clock shadow. I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more Ted! And Thom is total tall, dark and handsome in a endearingly goofy candy coating.

No need to hide....I think it's kind of adorable that you said that. As I've yammered about on numerous occasions, Thom and I have a lot in common and I totally feel some sort of connection there.....but the one thing we don't have in common is our party animal level. I'm kinda shy and Thom definitely loves to be around people. In a way, this could still be a good match because it would force me to be more sociable. My husband was a "hugger" and whenever I would meet people that he already knew, they would assume I was a hugger, too. Initially I was a stiff, reluctant "huggee", but eventually I became comfortable with it. And now, 200 years later, I have been known to pursue strangers for a hug! I guess what I'm trying to say in my clumsy way, is that having a relationship with Thom would be a good thing for me, but it would involve a little pain as I'd have to confront my shyness. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with what you meant, but it rang a little bell for me and made me want to tell you once again what's in my secret heart.

Oh, I may have misrepresented myself just a teensy bit....I'm all about openly demonstrating my affection (trying to word that nicely), and I can get drunk and sweaty with the best of 'em....but I'm more of a hang-out-at-the-beach person instead of a Mardi-Gras-person. Thommee is standing next to the letter "Y" I think?
It was so sexy seeing him laying down.(on Kyan's chest, was it)??

Who are the Carson fans out there?
His sister looks somewhat like him, in the eyes and the nose shape....geeze, chilhood photos.....the Carson fans got a peek into his personal life. And Carson's parents on the show. What is his older brother's name? I wonder if he was uncomfortable w/ having a homosexual brother.?

Are you watching for the upcoming guests on the J. Pauley show? I wonder if Kyan will give fans a peak into his private life. Is he more of a private person, like Thommee? Thommmee talked about his area of expertise on the show. Wish I woulda seen little boi photos, etc. Not too much personal stuff
