Loved this episode! Kevin was a bit whacky wasn't he? But there was just "something" about him that I liked. I just wanted to comment how much I love what Tom does with the design. Unlike some of the Trading Spaces designers, who, it seems to me, try to outdo one another and be as outrageous as they can, Tom really designs with the person in mind. And he's always right on target. Although those rooms weren't my personal cup of tea, they were absolutely perfect for Kevin. Loved Tom's red-checked sweater and Carson's purple shirt. I want them!
Cheers.

Best episode EVAH!
I laughed, then I gasped (holy crap, what a pigsty!), then I nearly cried (I felt so bad for Thom, I just wanted to hug him), then I laughed again, then I was so blown away by Thom's too-freakin'-awesome redesign (I shouldn't be shocked by now when the place looks awesome, 'cause it always does, but wow, what a lounge), then I was totally gasping and grinning and squeee-ing over the proposal. There wasn't a single bad part to this episode -- every moment was funny or touching or interesting.

I would have to say that so far Kevin has been the biggest challenge these boys have ever had. I knew that they could pull it off but that guy was a complete slob. Of course, once again the fab 5 come through and worked their magic! Kevin himself seems like he is a great guy but now that the fab 5 got their hands on him he is an even greater guy!

Ok, this episode was hysterical! It was truly a return to form from the last episode! But I felt so sorry for my husband and Carson, they got the sneezies! I swear, they should have given them another raise just for doing that apartment alone!
Ok, one more thing...Thom...loft...purple (wine-colored?) sweater...*THUD!*...ecstasy~

This was a great great episode! His stand up act was really good...that wild character he had was just crazy but it totally worked for him! Sip! His fiance is georgeous and they really are a match made in heaven. I wasn't too sure @ first but wow! The transformation to his house...well...anything would have been unbelieable but what Thom did was perfect for who he was. Jai was wonderful to him although I would have liked to hear more about them talking about his proposal..but it was cute @ the end when they were crying. I'm so excited for them and want to see them again and see how they've evolved. Great episode can't wait to see it again! THe hip tips were really good, better than last weeks by far! YOWZA KYAN...he looked good in his tip! YAY FOR KEVIN!

Okay, people- I felt so sorry for poor Thom. He had his work cut out for him. Kevin's place was narrow, like a trailer. It was wierd when Jai found that huge sex toy and when Kyan wore a wig. Matilda was photogenic. I'm sorry, Kyan, I know you wanted him to shave for the proposal, but I think that with his small receding chin, keeping it shaved would be the wrong answer. I loved the wallpaper and bamboo wallcoverings and when Kevin said he wanted to f*** the room. Didn't like the girlfriend joke, he needs to practice those more. But I loved the one about the prom dress. I can relate to how his home gets clean, but doesn't tend to stay that way, so I'm concerned that he may have a hard time keeping its new look. Why did his girl cry after he proposed? Kyan looked like he was crying a bit. How cute is that? Aww, dry your tears, lollipop. {{hugs}} And the Hip Tips - loved 'em! First of all, "what's her face" wasn't there, Kyan reflection looked so yummy, I really learned something new about caviar in Ted's tip, and Jai's really gay tip was interesting. You all also caught the producer's American Express ad too, right?

I think they probably worked harder in his home than in any others, but that's why I love it. The guys in these past 2 new episodes really needed the help and got it, which I find so much more entertaining than last season. And this one didn't have in-your-face butts. Thank you Bravo, for picking some hardcore cases, and way to go Fab 5! I know you boys had to endure some bad smells and get your hands dirty these last two times, but I love ya for it!

I loved this episode.
It was so great. I swear this episode has to be my favorite ever. Thom is indeed a miracle worker. The FF are saints in my book, because as soon as I saw that apartment, I was horrified!!!!
The dust, the dirt, the "squalor". It was disgusting. Thom works miracles.
I also like how the guys were not insensitive to this guys OCD. In fact it seemes like they went out of their way to make the guy feel comfortable. They were funny without being mean spirited. That is why I love this show.
Favorite moments:
1. Kyan and Thom's Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown moment
2. When Kevin spoke Polish to the girfriend's parent and
asked for her hand in marriage.
3. When all the guys were misty eyed over the proposal. It
was so sweet, I think I was going to weep as well.
Okay, now for my one pet peeve. It has nothing to do with the episode, but more to do with the show's editing. THe promos for the show had a clip from Thom where one of the guys asked him if he would say yes to this guy, and Thom was like "Oh Hell no". Well it was not in the episode. Why did they show it? Or in last weeks episode when they showed a promo where they wrapped Jai in some kind of tape in the promo, but it was not in the episode. It seems to me that the episode are already being edited before they are even on NBC. I mean come on. The show is on cable. DON'T EDIT the cable version.
That's it.
But I still loved this episode.

Another really good episode. Poor Thom! I was laughing so hard when he said he wanted to go home. What an amazing transformation of that home! I hope Kevin keeps up with his make better.
And I thought it was so touching the way a few of the boys were misty-eyed (Jai, Kyan, Thom) at the marriage proposal. I know I was teary myself.

I thought this one was wonderful!! First the apartment was unbelieveable, OMG, how can anyone live like that! I felt so sorry for Thom. I just wanted to reach through my T.V. and hug him. The interaction between the Fab 5 was hysterical!! When they had that record on and were dancing with each other, I was rolling!! When Thom hugged Jai at the end, after he asked him if he was crying, I just loved that. Overall, I thought this was one of the best!

OH MY GOD!!! This is my most favorite episode so far. And not because the transformation was that drastic, there have been more dramatic transformations, but I think it was the relationship between Kevin and Matilda that got to me the most. They are perfect for each other. I was even tearing up when he proposed to her and I didn't do that when John B. proposed to Tina.
The guys did a fantastic job - I hope they got battle pay for this one! Their reactions to seeing the apartment were priceless. My poor Thom, I though he was going to have an asthma attack! I don't doubt that he and Carson needed to use that inhaler - especially after Ted dusted off the bookshelf and seeing the dust particles floating around. And the wok! He wrote on his cookware - icky poo poo! And how disgusting was that bathroom. I'm surprised that Kyan didn't faint! And Thom, he deserves something, his likeness on Mount Rushmore, for managing to do a theme room and still make it look great. I loved the red chairs.
From the beginning to the end I laughed and seeing the guys tearing up, oh my goodness, I was reaching for the kleenex! This was a great episode and I definately want an update on this one!!

OMG! Was this place bad or what? I felt bad for the Fab 5 even having to set foot in there. They did an amazing job with the place and Kevin, though. I just wonder with his compulsiveness, how long the good changes will last. It was good to not have a guest doing tips at least. We even got a commercial with the Fab 5 in it during the show. I think it was American Express? Overall a real good episode- even had Jai with a little dog. So with Ellen on Monday and this new episode last night- what a great start to this week!!

Excellent as usual. Two observations:
1. Kevin kind of looked like Rufus Wainwright (Canadian singe-songwriter for those of you who don't know) with the way his hair was styled IMHO. Does anybody else think so?
2. Does anybody see the irony that the same day that this new episode debuted, with the plotline of Fab 5 helping the straight guy out with his proposal to hos girlfriend, that President Bush official announced that he would support a constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriages? As Madonna would say, oh American Life. (I hate to bring up politics here but that's hopw I feel.)

Wow...considering I'm new, I figured I'd go ahead and make the first post!
Well, first I want to start off my saying that I think this episode really got back to the QE basics: I really think the Ralph S. episode was this big sha-bang to grab attention (not that they need it), and now things will be normal again.
I thought all the boys did a great job w/ Kevin, ESPECIALLY Thom: you can tell that Thom wasn't really crazy about the aesthetic, but Kevin loved it and it was just so him.
I still can't get over the fact that Jai got him a spot at Caroline's: that was huge. I have to admit, I haven't watched Kevin's stand-up yet, because I was so nervous that he wasn't going to be funny, but the reactions I saw were pretty positive.
Also, that proposal was SO SWEET!!!!!!! You can tell that Kevin & Matilda just adore one another and she was overjoyed & overwhelemd by the proposal (I almost cried!).
I think our boys definitely deserve huge snaps for the episode, and I'm sure we were all glad to see the HipTips back in their true form.

Wow! I admit, I had to watch this episode a second time before I could really enjoy the funny moments. The Guys looked sooo overwhelmed at seeing that disgusting rathole. I felt so sorry for Thom sneezing and sputtering like that. They didn't make fun of Kevin alot; wondering if it's cuz they were afraid of him after seeing the way he lived. Thom decorated great (for the style Kevin liked). He does really decorate to the person's tastes/personality. The Hip tips were very cool! Kyan looked great w/the 5 o'clock shadow, Jai w/the puppy...too cute! And Thom.....need I say anything! I will give them 5 gold stars for this transformation. Hope this guy doesn't go down hill again with his cleaning. He should hire a cleaning service once in a while if he can't keep it up himself!

That's one of the most wonderful things about Thom, isn't it! He's not set on turning you into something you aren't. Heaven knows ('cause she's such a sweetie, lol) that the new "tiki" look of his house would NOT even make it through our front door! But it TOTALLY worked for Kevin and looked dayum good in his place! And he and Matilda really were one of the most endearing couples out of all the episodes...he was confident that she would say yes to his proposal and she expressed in one of the segments how much she loves him - everyone should experience a relationship like that.

"HOLY CRAP" is what I thought to myself at first, I was just like oh my god!! Can anyones house possibly be any more thrashed then his. He was a cute yet lost guy. He seemed like he had lost his sense of humanity at one point and Kyan, Carson, Jai, Thom, and Ted brought him back to reality. I honostly thought to myself that he was gonna screw up but I was stunned when he went on stage and gave taht performance. Man was he funny. *SIP* I loved his boom boom room, I want my room to look like that. Thom, you got awesome taste dude!! Carson, he looks so much better with the clothes you picked out, he looks so more mature. Ted, you have great taste in champagne, awesome man. Kyan, I loved his hair, they way it kinda curled up and the ends. Oh wow, I want my hair to do that. Jai, that was really cool of you to get him to be able to perform at Carolines. (I think thats what it was called) He blew everyone away. *SIP* But I would have to say that when he proposed, that was my favorite part. I actually couldnt breathe, I was squeezing my pillow makin a funny face. I actually cried and I felt like I was there. Your show really has a big impact on people. Not just the people you are giving make overs to, but the viewers at home laughing and crying cause of the stuff yo guys to do help these people. Great Job guys and Keep up the good work!

-Ted's "speech" on the weird toilet platform thing
-Thom saying he wanted to go home. I wanted to give him a hug. But WOW! what huge transformation! I couldn't believe it was the same apartment!
-Thom's reaction when Kevin said "I'll be a good husband until I'm dead."
-The proposal. OMG, when the guys started tearing up, I was tearing up right along with them. It was SO sweet.
Overall, this episode is one of my all-time favorites. Gotta find out when it's on next so I can tape it!

Great episode! As always I loved the work of the magical Fab 5. Especially the brilliant Thom. What he did what that dump should be written up in the glossies.
You know, I have to wonder if people *really* live like that or do they just trash the h*** out of the place knowing that the guys are coming.
I love watching Ted. He's so very well versed in his art and talented at presenting new ideas and tastes to the straight guys. Of course all the Fab 5 are but I do love champagne and caviar and this episode in particular spoke to me :-)

FraggleChick, I couldn't help but notice you're a native of Kansas, like me! WHERE do these people get the stereotype that we all live in barns and raise cattle?
Anyhoo, about the episode. I thought this was a major improvement from last week's, which left me feeling empty. I was watching this one with my mother, too, and when Jai's middle-of-the-show hip tip came on and he said, "I love you!" we both said "Aww, I love you too!" at the same time. T'was fun. HUGE and glorious snaps to Thom for the makeover of the apartment. It was gorgeous. I thought all of them did a great job, including Kevin. He was pretty open to the whole process, and I also noticed that he said, "Thanks a lot," after every single thing. I was laughing so hard when Jai and Thom were doing the whole, "Don't leave me Chip! I can't go on without you.." thing. My favorite "aww" moment of the night, though, was when Thom looked over at Jai and said, "Are you crying?" and all Jai said was, "I'm, like..." and put his face in his hands. Then Kyan started crying, and I started crying... Ah. Good times!

Hi there! New to the board and relatively new to the whole "Queer Eye" viewing experience thing, thanks to the gentle prodding of a friend of mine.
This being one of the first new eps of the show I get to experience first-hand, I'm just thrilled to have had it there for much-needed "destination" viewing on a Tuesday night. But even having that taken away, this ep was enthralling and great TV viewing. Kevin was adorable and definitely looked as though he needed the help. Matilda is just about the cutest little pixie I've ever seen. The two of them do make an awesome couple and I teared up right along with the "Queer Eye" guys when the whole proposal thing occurred.
Having said that... I was delightfully happy with what Thom did to the place! I know for absolute sure that it's not his style, nor is it mine, but it SO fit Kevin's personal aesthetic. Kyan did Kevin a MAJOR favor with that revamped hairstyle and the push to shave. Jai rocked beyond rocking for booking Kevin at Caroline's and for getting Kevin together with his comedic mentor! Carson, as always, did a FABULOUS job pulling a whole new wardrobe together. And Ted taught Kevin some things that I feel I TOO needed to learn. All in all, the "Fab Five" did a fab job turning a charming frog into an even more charming prince, and I wish the very best for Kevin and Matilda.
p.s.: I LOVE THIS PROGRAM. Love love love love. I haven't been this wild about anything in YEARS.

They tied Jai to an office chair. And we missed it. It seems like every episode, they put something in the promo that's not in the episode, from that "hell no!" to Kyan's Pocohontas moment in the Jeff Toale episode. Like the Daves have said, though, it's gotta be an impossible task to edit so many hours of such good material into 42 minutes. I just hope we get a lot of bonus footage in the DVD set (which I really, really hope we get at some point).

Someone please tell me why Matilda was crying during the proposal? And why did the FF tear up? Is crying supposed to be contagious, like yawning?
I haven't found any old posts about anyone crying during John B.'s proposal. I don't cry at proposals or weddings, just funeral scenes in movies, so please help me to understand what is so sad.

Yes, some do, actually. <looking around, guiltily> His was a more extreme example. Kevin has obsessive-compulsive disorder. People with OCD are especially prone to clutter. His vacuum collection scared me. Some people are pretty bad off and don't even get rid of smelly garbage - I've read about it in the paper. Scary. I have no idea if these SGs have a chance to clean before the FF show up.

K, I totally agree that I don't want to talk politics on here but I have to say that I totally agree with you. Why do people have to try to stop other people from doing things. What I mean by that is "who cares what other people do" If you don't approve that's too bad but it has nothing to do with you if the couple of men or women down the street want to marry each other!! The President should just butt out! I too am a straight woman but I don't see a problem with letting gays and lesbians being happy and getting married! k, and this episode of QE was great!!

Kevin DID indeed say "I want to f*** this room!" You were NOT hallucinating there. What was also classic was Thom's response to that comment -- "Well, you better not f*** these chairs because they cost an awful lot of money. Here, here's a leather couch -- you can f*** this if you want to." Classic comeback from Thom!
*sighs* Just got finished seeing the ep again. I still want to hug Kevin and Matilda, and my little celeb crush on all five of the "Queer Eye" guys continues.... I'm well aware of the fact that I, as a straight woman, am completely the wrong gender and sexual orientation here, but damn, Kyan is smokin' hot, Thom is gorgeous, Jai is a cute little teddy bear, Ted is quite the looker, and Carson = festive fabulousness!

Damn this boy was sloppy!!! I felt so bad for the guys because they all seemed to have problems breathing in that place. All things turned out good in the end and I cried right along with them when Kevin proposed.

.....and my little celeb crush on all five of the "Queer Eye" guys continues....
Amen, girlfriend. I may be straight and female but I'd buy any of those guys a drink any day.

Yes indeed, my name is an homage to Fraggle Rock: I was obsessed with that show!! (I wouldn't have thought of it if I hadn't been wearing my Fraggle Rock T-shirt that day, though... )
I keep watching this episode over again, and every time I watch it, I just get more & more amazed. Now, I'm not the neatest person in the world, but just looking at Kevin's house, I felt like I needed to take a shower. (I loved what Carson said about, "I can't believe we went in there.") And to turn THAT into this swanky, schmoozy lounge: I'm amazed. Thom's vision, it just....astounds me every time. I just love him to pieces.
I also thought in this episode Kyan really showed his crudentials: he has amazing ideas, but other than the George K. episode, you really don't get to see him DO this stuff. So, when he styled Kevin's hair w/ the blow dryer, I think he really showed people what he can do. It looked GREAT, and was my fav. look by far.
I watched the stand-up routine, and Kevin IS very funny. I'd really like to see him now, and see how much of himself he's incorporated into his set like Jim David told him to.
And Kevin & Matilda just get me every time: they're the essence of a great partnership. Their love for each other is just spellbounding - they remind me a lot of my friend James & his fiancée, Aubrey who are just the cutest .

Great episode. To say the Fab Five were miracle workers with Kevin is an understatment, lol. I got a little teary-eyed when Kevin proposed to Matilda. And who says there aren't happy endings?

Someone please tell me why Matilda was crying during the proposal? And why did the FF tear up? Is crying supposed to be contagious, like yawning?
I haven't found any old posts about anyone crying during John B.'s proposal. I don't cry at proposals or weddings, just funeral scenes in movies, so please help me to understand what is so sad.
Not sad, happy! I know, it's strange...but many people cry when they are happy. And sometimes that happiness is so contagious that others empathize with it (feel their feelings), so they cry too. And other times others just cry on their own because they are so happy for them.
And besides, it HAD been 6 1/2 years...she's good to wait that long!

Ah. Good times!
I blame it on The Wizard of Oz: who would've thought one little and, quite honestly, not-that-good of a movie would create such a misconception? (I admit, I have my relatives who live in backwoods-hicksvile towns, but...that's not ALL of us!)
The impromptu melodrama cracked me up, too: maybe because it reminds me all too much of me & my friends...
I thought Jai's mid-show hip-tip was adorable, too: Jai has always reminded of a little puppy dog himself, esp. with those big, innocent brown eyes. And I LOVE how he tears up, like, ALL the time: it's so sweet. Yeah, when Kyan had to stop himself, I almost lost it, too. *~sigh~*

Thanks for the reply, TTB. Did you tear up when you finally met Thom? Or did anyone who has met any of the Fab 5? I know if it was me meeting them, I'd get a bad case of the shakes.
