This week, the Fab Five helped out Alex M. jump start his career! Discuss what's on your mind here.

I loved this episode. The SG has received the jump start he needed -- not only the audition, but his whole lifestyle.
Thom: loved what he did with the apartment. Of course he had an almost blank canvas to start with, but he listened to both their wants and needs and addressed them creatively.

Carson: He really helped the SG to work from the outside to make himself feel good inside.

Jai: Great string puller at getting the audition and confidence builder by using the SG's drama coach who he is already familiar with to give input to the character.

Kyan: Usual great job as a therapist, helping the SG express himself and reinforce his determination to improve. The haircut was great too.

Ted: Respected his perceived shortcomings in the kitchen and helped him gain confidence. Next culinary project will be an adventure, not a hurdle.
    [/list]
They all took a man with multiple goals that he hadn't the foggiest idea of how to attain, and showed him he had the tools within himself to succeed
KCee
Cute episode. Though that haircut made him look like Thom, Alex kind of looks like a young Richard Dryfus. That scene he did for the fellas in their house was really quite good. Best of luck to him & his career.

Loved what they did to the house. I wish I could put brown borders on my white walls. I'll betcha she gets her closet back! :-)

Not sure if quitting smoking and trying a new career at the same time is a good idea! He'll probably need those smokes to handle the stress of the first auditions. (Not that I'm endorsing smoking, but that's a lot of new stuff to handle at the same time!) I wonder what's in that book that Kyan got him. Kyan sounds like he knew what it was all about, so I wonder if he hasn't quit smoking himself - or is maybe trying.

Loved how Jai snuck in that recommendation on wearing the suit. Turns out he was right. LOL

I looovveee truffles. Never even thought of making them at home though. I also cringed when he put that glass bowl on the burner. YIKES.

More later - sleep calls.

Alex certainly was emotional....I hope he makes it....you know Jai would be great as a producer or director, he seems such a natural...

(didn't catch van scenes)
I liked his red sexy tee...

QUESTION: did Carson say something to the effect of ...take mom..." and Thommee laughed??

Alex's chin is like Thommie's(that 'lil indentation)
WHEN HE SAID..."chocolate detail"-which his eyes are
QUESTION: tha blue rectanngle on his pants, was that part of a belt?
Laying on the side of the bed-waiting for a Thom Wife to arrive.
When he said, "looks incredible" how all his fans look on the boards
When he smiled and turned to Jai
His attire, sporty and cool-loved it
Jeans and tee-sexy and comfortable
Alex's 2 love notes, replied, "that's so cute"
He said something to the effect of, nobody likes a (something) accent"
(Ted's ? # of candles), sassy, "about a million"
"Good use of entry hall mirror"
"sofa on other wall"
"Can't keep his hands off his..."
"coat and no closet"
(referring to the hot pink purse), "that's cute....oh yeah...oh..."
MACHO STUD STANCE: right arm on hip
His pants and jeans looked sexy and hott
"running from the law and ...vaccination"
"Do u like sex"? Right arm around Carine
(lip gloss stuff) "Don't know whats worse..."
SUNGLASSES: "show some tongue"
That Thom pouty face (Alex emulates lines)
Thom & Ted holding purple exercise ball
QUESTION: What was the name of that store that Thom was in w/ Alex...LIG something...
He said, "pumpkin"
When he was kneeling down-like a baseball catcher
Back at the loft: the eyebrow lifts & laughs
Tiger on tee was neat
Hip tip-"...bedding and clothing..." coordinator expert
DID: he say something like, husband may be famous" and put his arm around Carine???

I'm not sure if I got this right but it sounded like Alex and his brothers are triplets...except Alex was fraternal (a womb mate....sip!... but from a different egg) and the other two are identical (egg split in the womb). I'll have to pay better attention next time I watch this ep because I know they went into some sort of explanation when they were in the Denali......and if I'm totally off base, perhaps I should have paid better attention in Biology.

What if Thommie was a triplet? Is the youngest of 3 bois, always the cutest, like Thom is?

Ummmm...I thought you were asking about Alex. Thom and his brothers are definitely not triplets. Thom is the youngest but I've only seen a photo of Jules (he's darn cute, too). I haven't seen any photos of James.
design_daddy
I did, I was just THINKING of Filicia boi was a triplet.
bileotter
I'm still completely gobsmacked by the thought that someone would actually name their Greco-American triplets Alexander, Aristotle and Socrates. It's a joke, right? Right? Right?
design_daddy
Id didn't catch the other 2 brother's names? For real that is what their names were?

I still wanna know why they skipped the name Plato. He does come between Socrates and Aristotle in the historical scheme of things.

I can't really be too critical since I have a Great Uncle Napolean.....he died a long time ago but while he was alive, he preferred to be called Uncle Paul. (Good idea.)

Are Greek & Italian families similar? Close knit family life? Does that wavy hair a trademark of greek or italian guys?

I'm sure if there'd been a fourth little Manolopoulos, it would have been Plato. If there's not one already.

Design_daddy, in the beginning, while they're all going through the dossier, Kyan says he feels bad for Alex because he's the fraternal twin, and Ted says, "I feel bad for the brothers, 'cause they're named Aristotle and Socrates."

I'm still hoping it's a joke.

Every family is different. I know some close knit Italian families and some not so close knit Italian families. I don't think that wavy hair is a trademark of Greek or Italian guys.

Kyan has a fraternal twin bro-serious? I thought he just had a sister-older?
Ted has a sassy mouth too..does he have an older sister/younger brother?

For Italians, dark hair usually depends on what part of the country you're ancestors are from. There are many Tomasulo's who are blonde and blue-eyed, like my children, because the family originally came from Northern Italy.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. Kyan's not a twin. The Manolopoulous triplets are made up of Aristotle and Socrates, who are identical, and Alex. That's what Kyan was referring to.

As far as I know, Ted just has the one younger sister.
lisakaz
Alex did look like Thom. I liked it. That Alex/Ari/Socrates thing is funny, but ya gotta feel sorry for Socrates. What the heck nickname is there? Maybe he has a cool middle name he can use, in the F Lee Bailey mode. My mother never uses her given first name. It was only given to her because her mother wasn't "allowed" a per the Roman Catholic Church to give her the name grammy wanted (it wasn't a saint's name). So my mother has an alias I suppose. Maybe that will work.

I jsut thought sorta reminded me of Thommie, that indentation that he had in his(ALEX) chin...wavylike hair...
But...in my opinion no other guy has that smiley charming face, chocolate kisses of brown eyes. And #1 best laugh face

I hear ya. Thommie's a cutie, no doubt. You notice in the opening credits he's the only one who seems to react to putting his glasses on by looking downward?

Where in the opening credits. I missed the part in the van??
I will have to see. He is sooooo adorable & has such a pouty face-cute

I mean in the part they show every week with the theme music. They all put on sunglasses. Only Thom seems to look down -- meaning you can see the white of his eyes. I think that's the best way to describe it.

My fave? It's hard 'cause I really like witty repartee, so Carson is great at that. For the whole package it's Thom and Kyan (I never really dated too many blonde guys).

design_daddy
Carson...the one with the naughtiest mouth, falling in closets and on kid's toys. Do you own BEAUTIFIED? See him on the Today show, a while back??

Late reply, but yeah, you are right! And they commented that it might make Alex feel a little like an outsider because he was fraternal. The identicals didn't look totally alike tho' or maybe it was haircuts/glasses etc.

I wondered if the cameraman told him to get that bowl off there - I'm sure the cameramen aren't supposed to get involved, but that's DANGEROUS! Speaking from experience. My roommate once left a pyrex baking dish on a burner, then turned that burner on instead of the one she meant to turn on. The dish exploded and it's amazing nobody was killed by flying chunks of glass.

SLB, I don't care that you were late...I'm glad you replied and were able to confirm what I'd said. I wasn't sure if I had mixed up the class on eggs dividing with the class on the impregnation of sea urchins. That would be wrong in so many ways.

I especially liked the way our guys were concentrating on Alex when he was "acting" for them. The FF clearly appreciate creative talent and are always encouraging and supportive to the SG's. I think Alex is talented and....hey, Alex, if you're reading this and you're interested, I've written a screenplay (about the Fab 5) and I'm sure we could work in some sort of part for you.
ThomsTeddyBear
Alex was as sweet as he could be...except he had a problem kissing his wife, what's up with that??! SG's, I tell ya! He really was cool otherwise and who knew he was hiding that body under there!

Great job on the cut Kyan, he looked like Thom! Especially when he put on that Thom shirt.

[Striped shirts are no longer "striped shirts", they are "Thom shirts"]

Carson, dead-on with the clothing, especially the brown but kudos to Jai for recommending the suit. It was the best way to go for an interview.

Thom shaking his head sent me into spasmatic giggles from which I am still trying to escape. Him lying across the end of the bed literally knocked me out! So illegal (the cuffs are under the pillow ). And boy did he ever work that house! All I could do was "WWWOOWW" and sit open mouthed...then when I stopped staring at Thom, I marveled at what he did to the house

Alex was pretty darned good at acting and I'm glad he impressed them at the interview. Maybe now that he knows he's got skills, he won't be so nervous and sweat so much. Overall, great epi!

Okay, I just have one question about Jai's black tank top: Of all the people in the world, why Bobby Brown??

This show wierded me out..Haven't watched in a while. Some of the guys on the other shows have been just normal guys..

But once in a while you get someone with a strange edge..like the Toupee-removal show, that guy was obviously GAY. You could tell his sourpuss mother hated the whole thing.

The removal of the Toupee was symbolic of his first step coming out of the closet..There was a strange toasting scene on the porch that seemed almost like some sort of initiation ritual.

The guy in this episode just made me sad..He didn't open up his mouth fully when he talked (maybe that's why he's not a good kisser)..And three acting classes a week, for two years - that's a little strange, I guess his wife supports him.

Their home was sad - a disheveled mess, like they're homeless. The key moment in the show was at the beginning, when he spoke briefly about being in the World Trade Center on 9/11 - lots of unexplored territory there.

Could explain the link to this quest of being an actor..Whatever his life was about before, was destroyed. His crying was too emotional - he really needs help, he seems to be floundering in life...what if acting doesn't work out (he seems too wierd/intense...he was uncomfortable to look at).

This show needs a new formula - same thing as when it first started - come in, play with the stuff, meet the girlfriend...Maybe it's time to get out of NYC and into some other location on a more permanent basis, or just do other cities.

How many dumpy shoebox apartments can be visited over and over again??

I'll have to remember that....striped shirts are now Thom shirts,Thom wives, was Tues. or Thurs. Thom day...???? What else can we name after Thom....

I think he said something about learning that life is too short and he should follow his dream. His brothers said that he had wanted to act since he was a kid. I guess experiencing what he did would make one re-evaluate things. Actually, when he was with Kyan, he mentioned that if the acting thing doesn't work out, he'll at least know that he gave it his all. He seems to have a good supporative group around him. He'll be OK.

All shows like this have a formula - that's what makes it work. They can't stray too much too often, otherwise they'll lose the heart of the show. Anyway, they've broken from the path a few times with the 2 England episodes and the Ray S. episode was outside the norm. Also, they've got 2 Texas shows airing in a few weeks. I can't see them doing too many remotes because I'd think it's awfully expensive to transport an entire crew all over the place.

Anyway, welcome to the boards.
Shaybo
He also kind of reminded me of Thom when he had the stripped shirt on.
I wish that they could do a couple here in Florida. That would be awesome.

If I had a nickel for every happily married man who is more than a "1" on the Kinsey scale, I could afford to buy the whole state of New York for my summer cottage. Have you been hiding under his bed, that you can set yourself as judge and jury of this man's sexuality?

Overt masculinity does not necessarily a heterosexual make. Just look at the public perception of Rock Hudson, before the revelation of his AIDs diagnosis. Conversely, many very heterosexual men do not fall into the stereotype of wiping their noses on their flannel shirts. The SG you choose to malign, specifically commissioned Thom to design a bedroom that could be a romantic oasis and refuge for his wife and him. His wife can accept and love him with or without his toupee. That alone speaks volumes about their relationship.

Deciding to dispense with the toupee is akin to coming out of the closet? And burning it on the patio is an initiation rite? Who ever you are, the kindest thing I can say is that perhaps you should put your overactive imagination in storage.

    so sez Supe!

Thanks, Supe. I had no idea where this person's preceptions about Richard Miller were coming from. All I saw with Richard was a really nice guy who loves his wife and kids and just wasn't confident in himself (and with a mother like that, who wouldn't be?). The toupee removal to me seemed more like an initiation into a more confident Richard, not coming out of the closet. To this day, it's still one of my favorite episodes.
