Share your feelings about ex-mullet wearing, pizza-making, party-throwing dad Mark Fa and his incredible transformation.
my_guy_ky
The wife's name is "Roe"? What kinda name is that?!
Ailey
OH.MY.GOD. Again, we see what a simple haircut can do for a person.
Honestly. If I had see him with the mullet, I would have snickered a bit. Without the mullet and mustache? He didn't just look better, he looked HOT. Really hot. Why would such a good looking guy bury himself under all that hair? Wow. Luckily he seems like a stand up guy, otherwise his wife would have to keep him under lock and key, because, I guarantee you, women are going to start flirting with him.
celtic_wench
OMG! This was a huge transformation! I kept thinking that they had switched guys on us . Needless to say, I loved this ep. Mark seemed so at ease with the FF and his wife and daughter were great.

Kudos to Kyan for giving the guy a great cut. WOW! And boo to Mark if he actually lets it grow out even "just an inch." I thought he might tear up over losing the mustache. Kyan looked a bit concerned too. But he looked fabulous!

Of course, Thom designed my dream kitchen. Wasn't too crazy about the girl's room but its been a long, long, looonnnngggg time since I was 18--I might have felt differently about it waayy back then Although I must admit I did have techie envy when it came to her iPod, laptop and flat screen TV.

How funny was it having Billy do all that pizza? The guys did say not to have the women do any of it. They didn't say he couldn't have someone else do it. I love "Hey Billy, can you come over and clean our house?"

And he followed Jai's instructions so well. Adored the rock climbing. I think Jai learned something about trust as well.

This ep goes a long way toward making up for that disaster 2 weeks ago. I'm not too sure I'm looking forward to next week's ep. It just won't be the same without Kyan, Jai and Thom.

Mark and his family are the best! Talk about love support and fun with one another! It completely shows through all of their friends and how they are all feeling welcomed and so in place at their home! I so enjoyed this family and this episode! The make over was incredible! WOW what a hottie Mark is! All of the Fab 5 did so great as usual...and okay maybe because I'm too a mom of a 17 1/2 yr. old...but I so appreciated most in this episode was Jai's advice on how to reconnect and relay Marks love & support to his step daughter! HOw thoughtful and felt from the Soul Jai's wisdom is! Jai I applaud you!! :-)
my_guy_ky
Warning: Snarky post.

This reminded me of the Jeff T. episode. Okay, my jealous streak has a hair trigger - Carly got to sit in the tub with my Ky?! AAAUUUHHH!
Why are there 2 beds in her room? And why do they refer to Carly as Mark's "daughter" when she is actually his stepdaughter? And her bare tummy is so skinny. She's probably a size zero. She could really help her mom out in that department because she was hard to look at and needs a make-better to keep up with her hubby's new look. And what's up with all that tacky lollipop sucking? Is she trying to quit smoking, or something? However, I did like Roe's surprised expression when she saw the new Mark.
Mark was so sweet to Jai by helping him rock-climb!
I'm glad Kyan taught the basics of nailcare. Some straight guys need to start from scratch-no pun intended.
Why was Mark wearing skivvies under boxers? The only reasons for doubling up on underwear are the (ahem) "monthlies", or perhaps a leaky bladder.
What bugged me was the way Mark totally cheated by taking the credit for his friend's cooking. If James M. and other make-betters knew that they could get away with that, then they wouldn't have been so flustered before their reveal. And why a bathrobe? Hello! Apron!
I liked the family hug at the end.
I loved Kyan's shades when he was in the Fabmobile at the beginning of the show. What brand are they?
Carson's curls are so femme and cute on him.
It was funny when Ted said, "Ask not for whom the bell tolls." when the clocks chimed.
I LOVED Kyan's hip tip!!
Everyone get a load of the original grooming guy in next week's preview? LOL!
my_guy_ky
Kyan Douglas almost always amazes me with his Hip Tips. This one was no exception, and makes me ache to make wild crazy love to him. Kyan, you can arrest me anytime!
Wannabefab
(jaw hanging in wind)
gafuh?
Oh, my gohd! He's cute!
What happened to his face?
He's cute!
*stark astonishment*
*snaps out of it*
Oh, dear, what am I saying? Of course he's adorable. Kyan got his hands on his head (thank god), Carson spruced up his style, Thom kicked up his kitchen, Ted put pizazz in his pizza, and Jai snapped him upside his head and told that boy to get off his *** and get to WORK!
Is it just me, or did his mullet problem pale next to his laziness toward his family. IMHO, Jai had the hardest job. He SEEMED to agree, but I was shocked when he actually put in the work to show his girls the love.
Suzyg20
I hope every man who still has a nasty mullet and/or a handle-bar mustache watches this episode. OMG, Mark went from scary to gorgeous. Amazing what's hidden behind all that hair!
Gotta love his little pizza-slave Bill, that was hilarious!
Nicolletta
All I can say is "WOW!" That was one hell of a transformation! He went from looking like a Metallica roadie to Liev Schrieber. I loved the reaction he got from his wife's friend. That was classic. Snaps to the Fab Five for another job well done!
Tedrocks
this guy was CREEPY and I LOVED him! GREAT episode!
totalwomanjan
I thought this was the best "Queer Eye" yet.....the Fab 5 guys loved the "Mark Fa" family and they were as gracious as ever to have them in their home!!!!! Need more appreciative people like Mark, ro, Karly and of course, Billy....
mufasa
Can anybody explain what happened to the kitchen cabinets? Thom said it was just repainted, but it looked like brand new cabinets? Did I miss something? If I painted cabinets it would look like paint on my old cabinets. Is there a special technique?
Belle
Certainly a dramatic change in his appearance. Snaps to Kyan. I really have to wonder, if his wife and stepdaughter so disapproved of his appearance, why he waited so long to do anything. His wife seemed fairly clever. Why didn't she initiate change?

It will be very interesting to see if he stays with "the look."
Depoetic
Oh my GOODNESS! Mettalica to GQ Model with one snip!

When I initially heard the bio read by the guys, I thought, "Hmmm, sounds like my father..." but it was seeing all the Federal style door frames, capitols, and furnishings - hip deep in antique glass, that made all the red flags begin flying in my head. (DANGER Will Robinson!)
When I heard Mark speak - my alarm only increased. ("Vanity, vanity, all is vanity!") ...You'd think my brain was Shangai! ...I made myself calm down - and remember the power of editing... besides, the guys were there to bust down the old and build up the better!

Carson - bedecked in GORGEOUS curly locks - immediately had me rolling with laughter at his Hannibal Lecter impression! I was even a tiny bit jealous of Mark when Carson held up his hair to blow on the back of his neck! ohmy.gif ! I LOVE Carson's rapier wit! C-"Look! This bedspread is a Full/Queen... just like YOU Thom!" "On the 8th day, the Lord created malls and told his people, 'Go ye therefore and shop!'" "We'll have to mull-it-over... (a denim jacket choice)... and SPEAKING of Mullet's being OVER... you've got to go see Kyan!" I thought it was interesting that a Carpenter would have such grandeur in his home... and no closets or even an antique amoire? Hurrah for Carson - the canvas armoire will keep the couture away from the 'Silence of the Lambs' basement. --You were brilliant as always, hon!

Jai was his most handsome in this episode, EVAH. When Mark was saying, "Not many people can make a handlebar out of their mustache, I have that ability, so I do..." Jai's retort was hysterically brilliant in it's dead-pan delivery: "Not many people can make an A bomb..." (ROFL!) It was a pleasure seeing the deftness with which Jai pointed out Mark's shortfalls with regaurd to the relationship with his stepdaughter, Karly. It was equally refreshing to see the whole 'SQ3R' approach to driving home that point. Taking him to a rock climbing gym to make a deeper impression about the need for trustWORTHYness between Mark and Karly was genius, Jai! Snaps to you! Great idea - gift bags for guests, Snaps to both Jai and Carson on the Kate Spade bag for Karly - and Mark's terrific presentation. It was sweet to catch yet another glint of misty emotion in your face during the reveal. ... May you never lose that tender heart, hon!

Kyan was amazing! You know... Armani does a body GOOD! I've recently re-watched some of the original episodes, and honestly you can see the sheer confidence Kyan exudes now with every moment he's on screen. All the guys are growing into such true MEN... I simply must STOP referring to them on the boards as 'the boys'! I loved that Kyan's still wearing the red thread bracelet we saw in Rob's episode. I laughed myself sick when he was on the treadmill screaming in faux fear at being 'chased by the mullet', and his comment during the reveal: "Never knew it was so much fun being a pizza B**ch!" (Never mind that I nearly fell to the floor seeing him in the cop uniform during the 'hip-tip! GASP!) Kyan was genuinely supportive and assertive with Mark during the 'transformation' and it was wonderful watching Kyan cheering Mark on - giving him confidence in his new look. (WOW! What a change!) Kyan, you're a miracle worker, hon!

Ted seemed more relaxed in this episode than I think I've ever seen him. He's always an absolute riot - but really, he seemed very 'comfortable in his own skin', if you will. (I loved how silky your hair looked! ) This was an episode where I simply could NOT catch my breath. Ted had me laughing as he quoted, "Ask not for whom the bell tolls..." as the six antique clocks chimed the hour, and when he shouted to Mark in Costco: "Run down the little guy!" Thank you, Ted, for the tips about too much cheese making a soggy crust, the use of pizza stones and the fact that you can get raw dough from pizza parlors! I am FOREVER learning new things every time I watch you work! Hon, you're a gem!

Thom - I loved as always (and will forever!) ...However, I had a true 'Antiques Road-Show' flashback when I saw him PAINT THE ANTIQUE HEADBOARDS AND FOOT BOARDS of the twin beds in Karly's room!!!! (TRUST the designer, De... He SURELY KNOWS what antiques have value and what do not!!) {Aye shamunga!} My sides were SO sore after this episode! I had to giggle when Thom and Ted were bouncing on the beds... laughed when he had the cobalt blue glass flower "OMG it's a blue vag**a!" and gaffawed when he yelled after the departing Carson, "RUN Forest! RUN!" I actually cheered when Thom pointed out that the whole design of the interior seemed to be ALL about Mark, and that Roe and Karly (just) lived there too. I had originally expected Thom would dismantle the whole home's interior design... but instead the focus was on Roe's and Karly's focus spaces. That was SPECTACULAR! It balanced the home and made it less ego-centric. The clutter was reduced and it became more about the WHOLE family. I've been surprised at how no women had cried over Thom's designs in the past. They do it with SUCH regularity on 'Trading Spaces'. It was sweet to see Roe cry over her beautiful new kitchen - and lovely for Thom to finally see someone deeply appreciate his amazing work. You're resplendent brilliance just out shines the sun, hon!

Mark's initial vanity faded into genuine confidence. The guys performed SO well on his behalf. It was astounding to see Mark's reaction to his own face. Isn't it a wild thought to consider that you would not even know YOURSELF in a mirror? I was totally won over when he was SO gentle and supportive with Jai during the climbing sequence. Right brain to left brain - by George, I think he's GOT IT! I laughed when Mark delegated SO much work to his friend, Billy. ...Granted he DID have a great deal of work to accomplish! (Ya did a great job helpin' out, there, Billy-boy!) ...By the way... when he toasted the Fab 5, I loved that he actually puts his antique carnival glass tumblers to use! My Grandmother never let us use hers! LOL!
Cudos to Mark for telling Roe that he was carefully instructed in how to show his appreciation for her and Karly. Cudos for remaining the working host during the party. And finally, cudos for making SURE Karly knew that she always had a place to return to that was her own anytime she came home from college. (Yeah, Jai!) I came home after being one week into my college experience (Laundry you know... ) and found my room replaced by a sewing room. It made me feel like my folks couldn't WAIT to be rid of me. Cudos to Mark for learning that she isn't leaving your lives for good - just life is altering the relationship. Remember, Mark, pour your love into those around you, and it will return a hundred fold, hon!

The episode was brilliantly crafted, and the previews made it clear that there was just too much good footage to cram it all into just a 42 minute streatch. (Makes me join the chant, DVD! DVD!)

Applause, Applause!
Peace and grace to you all! --De
FraggleChick86
I haven't had a chance to watch the episode yet: I made it through the initial invasion & then I fell asleep (tells you what kind of week it's been for me).
I just wanted to say that I thought Roe & Karly were really great & had this really cool energy about them.
ThomThyme
All I can say is WOW! Mark definatley went from drab to FAB!! When the boys were done working their magic on him he turned out gorgious! Snaps to the boys!

His family seamed so nice! I love how he got his friend involved with the pizza making, LOL!

To my_guy_ky: I bet you wanted Kyan to frisk you with that police uniform during his hip tip!! hee hee! He looked pretty hot in that uniform!

This was a great show, best of luck to Mark and his family!

I respect your opinion & I'm not trying to blast you at all, but you don't know what the story is w/ Karly's biological father. He could have abandoned her, be in jail, some drunk, raving loony, etc. If Mark is really the person who's raised her & loved her then he is her "dad" & she is his "daughter", despite technicalities.
As far as the lollipop sucking, I wouldn't be surprised. One of the many reasons why ppl. can't stop smoking is the social psychological affect of needing to do something...like a fidget problem, only to the max.
And I know I cleared this out, but to your remark about Roe needing to shape up: I personally didn't have a problem w/ her, but she might be: I mean, look at Shana now.
ThomsTeddyBear
Ok, I don't need to go over all these posts because I know what everyone is thinking - "Who the Hades knew THAT was under all that hair!" Omg, he was FINE! If I had not seen them cut the hair and shaved the moustache myself, I would swear they switched guys because he was a hopeless case. I swear, the guy could easily do GQ now! My ever-talented and uber-cute hubby Thom did an excellent job of keeping the intended feel of the home while throwing in just a pinch of his extra special touch that takes a house from being a house to a home. He's just good like that

Carson's curls were completely ADORABLE! Omg, I just wanted to pinch his cheeks!

Jai's rock climbing idea was brilliant! I hope Mark keeps up with it and gets into other sports so that when Carly comes back home on breaks, they can do things like that together.

I don't know what Ted put into Mark's drink, but he really seemed to get into those pizzas! Granted he reeled in his buddy to help out, but you have to admit that he was kicking butt in the chef department for a while there.

Ok, how many kyanites had to be revived after the cop uniform hip tip? Do you guys keep the shock paddles and a non-Ky friend handy for just such ocassions? Ventilators? A paper bag?

Ok, time to check out the other boards now - I've got a secret I can finally tell! Going to Fan Forum...

I thought this episode was really good! Nice family! Although I am concerned that Mark may go back to growing his hair out (more than his half inch that he mentioned). He "turned out" good. It seemed to me that he really got along well with the Guys too, and was taking in what they had to say to him. I do think that they should have let Billy hang with Ted since he was doing most of the pizza making! Also...one comment...why all the "gay pride" stuff around the house? Was that to impress the Guys? Not criticizing...just wondering. Our 5 looked great! I really like Carson's "curlyish" hair. Liked Thom's striped jacket he was wearing at the end. I, too, liked the "Run Forrest, Run!", and...wasn't it Ted that called Jai "J.Ro"! The only "creepy" thing (well 2 things!) about this episode was Mark's clawlike fingernails and all those clocks (chiming all at once, it sounds a bit like a haunted house or something). Snaps to all involved in this episode!!!

Her full name is Robike. It's Dutch.

You are a friggin moron......Nuf said!!

I totally agree. This was definitely the best Queer Eye I've watched. The dude with the long hair and cowboy mustache rocked. He looked completely revitalized and had such a great sense of confidence when the Fab Five were through with him. His wife Roe was so ecstatic...it was great to see.

And what can you say about the step-daughter Karly? She's probably the hottest thing I've ever seen on reality TV.
star80
This episode rocked. I can't believe what a dramatic change this guy went through. He doesn't even look like the same guy. I hope he doesn't grow his hair back and I hope he doesn't change the kitchen, it's gorgeous! Good work Thom and everyone else.
PS Dreaming about Kyan in that cop outfit.
PPS Being from NJ I am offended by the comment in the "After" profile on the site that knocks Jersey hair. I thought everyone in that episode had great hair and so do I!!!
Fab4U
It was truely an amazing transformation!! He looks so good! I hope he doesn't grow his hair out again!!! Billy their indentured servant LoL!!!!

My favorite lines from this Ep are:
Carson
*My goodness it's Silence of the Lambs!
*Did U smoke some Hash and buy the rest of these clothes?
*I hope they have Insurance!
*It's a full Queen just like U!
*They've got them on Low Jack
*That only comes from high quality leather goods
Kyan
* This is the Mullet workout first U get on the tred Mill and then look back Agh!!! Agh!!!
Ted
*Jai~Ro
Oh my god Ferbees Agh!!
Thom
*Billy their Indentured servant
*Hi Billy we need to come over and clean out house

well.. interesting to see a few things...#1 that my_guy_ky (yea, you wish) has enough time in a day to do a complete analysis of every move in an episode... but yet, comments on things they "missed" (re; the lollypop-- notice in a few scenes, Carson also has one.., it's called editing , darling... the same scene was split and shown separately, causing those who are a little "too" focused to miss the big picture...
as for the two beds, these people apparantly collect antiques, and when things come in sets of two, you don't break them up just because. If Carly is anything like my teens, there is always a sleep over happening... extra beds are handy...
Regarding the "daughter/stepdaughter" thing... I was very touched, I thought it was great that another man can try so hard to be close to a kid not his biologically.. And better yet? how cool is it that the Fab five saw them as Father/daughter and not always as Stepfather/stepdaughter every single minute...it's a tribute to their relationship

also, nice of you to add at least one nice thing about the wife..but please know this..
She can go on a diet, you on the other hand, will always come off bitter & b*tchy...
I think the entire family was great... they were attractive, genuinely cared about each other, loved having the Fab Five there, had great friends, a beautiful home (well, except for the kitchen) and I can't imagine how hard my_guy_ky had to look to find fault with what I thought was one of the best episodes ever...
I agree with the viewer who said the unused footage is just screaming DVD DVD DVD...
Jujubee419
This episode DEFINATELY made up for the James M disaster. IT was so sweet the way Mark seemed to make a genuine effort to reach out to Karly. And I loved how his family was so loving and supportive.

Carson looked ADORABLE with his hair in curls, and his impeccable Hannibal Lecter impression had me in almost in tears. He really hit the nail on the head with the clothes he picked for Mark.

Once again, Thom dazzled us with his amazing work. The kitchen looked awesome! I don't know if pink butterflies are a little young for someone going to college, but Karly's room still looked great!

Jai's rock climbing lesson was the sweetest part of this episode. I loved how he used it as a metaphor for growing up. And since I'll be off to college this fall, I got totally misty-eyed.

I think Ted definately seems to be coming out of his shell more this season. He seems much more relaxed and comfortable. I loved how he screamed at the furby (I think they're creepy, too) and when he was chasing Jai at Costco. And his hair looked fantastic! Very silky and I think its gotten longer. Ted, you're HOT!

Kyan worked his magic into an amazing transformation! I couldn't believe it was the same guy! I think he really hit the nail on the head when Mark said he didn't know who the guy in the mirror was, and Kyan replied, "It's you!" And the nail clipping lesson was something alot of straight guys need to hear, so I'm glad it was included.

I don't know if having Billy do all the work was brilliant, or flat-out cheating, but it was pretty funny! "Meanwhile, Billy the indentured servant his hard at work..." haha. He didn't seem to happy about it either!

Next week is suppossed to be the pilot episode of QE...sans Thom, Kyan, and Jai. It definately won't be the same, but at the same time I'm very interested in seeing it, just out of curiousity. At least the rejected guys are getting some time in the spotlight.
raindog
I thought it was a nifty twist to choose a guy who is actually a carpenter and is restoring his home. Although I did wish they'd let Thom loose on the rest of the house - I didn't care for the red walls or the little printy wallpaper myself, but apparently the family did like it and didn't want it changed. But having the house already be kind of a work in progress made it really interesting. I'd like to see it when it's all done and they have all the rooms done and (I hope) closet space.

And Mark underwent the most stunning transformation ever - I'd NEVER have known that was him! He was quite the hottie once he lost the mullet and 1850s mustache. His wife and daughter were great, too. I didn't like quite so much that Roe went shopping with Carson and Mark, but only because Carson seemed a bit toned down. Then again, that just means that whenever they come and fix MY husband, I'M going shopping too. And Carson can say whatever he pleases!!!

Overall I think they're really doing a good job having a wide variety of people with a wide variety of things that need work. And it's as hysterical as ever.
danybelle
"HE'S LIKE A FREAKIN' STUD!">> sums this episode up in one phrase! I absolutely LOVED this episode! Besides everything being completely hilarious, I thought Mark, Roe, Karly, and Billy were a great group of people. I truly "felt the love" these people have for one another. You can see how much love Mark has for Roe and Carly, both beautiful women, and they are all very lucky to have one another. What a fun family, from the gay pride tees to tasteful clutter, I loved everything about this episode from beginning to finish. I think it would be interesting to see how he fares about six months from now, to see if he's maintaining, or growing his hair "just one more inch".

Many props go out to the Fab Five (as always), from my Carson (comedic genious) and fashion GOD, to Thom with his ingenious design ideas and hearty, wonderful laugh, the attention-giving and hot Kyan, love that cutie Jai with his positivity, and that great teacher and guru of food, Ted.

Just a couple of side notes, I noted other posts that put down members of that family, clearly all stemming from JEALOUSY. They all ROCK!

And lastly, I have to defend my great home of Northern New Jersey, which gets a bad rap. We are not known for our "fairly lax standards of the bad coif". All of those people at the party seemed indeed quite stylish. They are closer to NYC than practically anywhere else. Ease up on Jersey, WE ARE COOL MAN.

Keep the great QE episodes coming and BRAVO! This one was definitely my favorite thus far, hands down!!!!

Wow, how insanely rude of you. First of all, Karly (K sweetheart) is the sweetest girl I know, and we go to the same high school. Don't presume to know about her or her family. She has two beds because as you saw, she has a lot of friends, and a lot of friends stay over, therefore the two beds. He is her stepfather, but he's more like her dad. Shes very close with him. And wow, tacky lollipop sucking? please, no one can suck a lollipop now? Go cry if you can't handle it, honey.

I think all the guys did a great job on Mark F. I liked the look on Carsons face, when Mark said that all his clothes were in the basement. I say snaps on a job well done!!

Welcome to the boards, Jasta. Hug Karly (et. al.) for us, and never mind the snarks... chalk it up to freedom of speech and just know most of us LOVED it all! Tell her continuing "Happy Birthday"'s from the Fab 5 fans.

Peace to you, --De

I loved the show...it was a great example of what a good haircut could do for a person. Was it just me or did Mark look like Tim Daly (brother of Tyne Daly and star of "Wings" a while back). I could not get over the resemblence! I have to give it to the guys with the transformation that this guy made.

I wasn't too crazy about the fact that Mark made his friend do all of the cooking...he just substituted his wife and daughter for his friend toiling away in the kitchen. Mark, you owe your buddy a decent night out and a steak dinner...on you!

I think I must have missed something about the wall climbing experience. It didn't seem to "fit" with the show...I didn't get the impression that Mark didn't know how to trust, so the excercise was lost on me.

Thom did a fabulous job on the kitchen. The bedroom was a little off style for me.

Finally, Mark doesn't need to wear the man-thongs...don't guys know that women dig those biker-briefs??? ;-) Roe might want to get a makeover herself. Her husband looks like such a stud (man that thick gray wool turtleneck looked fabo on him) she's gonna want to do a little "sprucing up" just to keep up!
Jujubee419
Hi, Jasta!

Welcome to the QE board! Please don't let the very few mean-spirited people stop you from enjoying this board. And don't think that they represent everyone here. Most of us are really fun, happy people. Tell Karly happy birthday for us, and that she and Mark and Roe are all welcome to post here. We'd love to hear from them!

It's been a rough couple of weeks for the Queer Eye! I was starting to lose the love and then....You come along with this AWESOME makeover! What a great job!!! Best show I've seen all year! The guys were so great and they were so-so genuine with Mark and his family! Mark looks fantastic, curious if he'll go back to his old ways. I hope not. Pizza guy needs to go into business. HeeHeeHee! This show is one to repeat watching for sure!!!!

God, I love this show. I mean, I really, really love this show. Where else would you find such a sweet, kind, talented group of men excavating another man's true self from beneath a heap of dreck?

I'd have thought, after seeing Jeff Toale revealed, that I'd have had a better idea of what Mark Fa. would look like without that mass of hair, but still, it shocked me. That man is a beauty. Truly handsome.

And I loved how Jai correctly focussed (as he always does) on the need of the straight guy to get his priorities in order and act on them. He's a smart cookie, that Jai.

What really impressed me about Ted in this episode (hell, Ted always impresses me - he's who I aspire to be in the kitchen) was what he was able to pull together from Costco. Yeah, it's easy to impress when you're buying expensive bits and pieces from specialty shops here in the city, but it's harder to make something great happen when you're shopping in the big chain stores of the suburbs.

Thom and Carson were on the money, as always. And Kyan (in the hip tip) nearly made me swoon! I'm ordinarily immune to gay men's heat, but that guy in uniform is some serious eye candy. I felt like I needed to smoke a cigarette afterwards.
fab5Rbest
All I can say is WOW! What a show. Imagine having someone care so much about you they would give up a moustache and mullet just to say I Love you. This is obviously very special and caring family. Way to go Mullet Man - best show yet

Meow...

Would you like some milk to go with your catty comments!

I think the point was made that Karly (had you paid attention) and Mark have a father/daughter relationship whether it's "step" or not. I think they made it clear that she is his stepdaughter (and she looks hot in her little half top...if you can sport it...go on!!!.) As for the lolli's...the Fab 5 were enjoying a pop right along with Roe.

I think this is, by far, my favorite episode yet of QE. They really seemed to love this family, and I can see why. The 5 outdid themselves with Mark, and I for one want more MARK!!! AND HIS WHOLE FAMILY TOO!!!
thecatlady

Jasta,
You mentioned you were a friend of Karly's....maybe you can help.....or anyone for that matter....Karly was wearing a shirt that I fell in love with. It said "Will work for shoes". Any idea on where I can get this shirt?

OK...now that I'm done responding to a few posts...I am writing mine now.

I have been a fan of QE since day one, and have had my favs in the past (Alan C was my former fav...not because of him, because Thom jumped out from behind the shower curtain and said "how you durrin'!), but Mark Fa topped all the others. So much so, that I actually registered here! I hate filling out forms and registering for this stuff...but Mark earned it.

First off...the Mullet!!! The line about his civil war ancestor, and that he thought it would work for him had me rolling!!! (good one Roe!!! BTW - I read the post about your name being Dutch...sweet!!! Great name, very unique!) Then Carson starts in with the Silence Of The Lambs...my husband (his first QE everyone!!!) tells me to shut up and stop laughing because he can't hear!!! The threesome in the tub - look, I know they're gay, but hell, let me in the tub too...PLEASE!!! As far as all the gay pride stuff is concerned...I have a feeling that Roe is active in gay rights...she seems to be that kind of nuturing soul...you don't just set out to find a [expletive deleted] t shirt and a rainbow boa to throw in the closet because the Fab 5 is coming to your house...you either live it or you don't, and the boys aren't stupid, they would smell phony from a million miles away. Nope...Roe is the real deal! I wish I lived in Jersey so I could hang out with her! So as the show progresses, my phone is ringing at every commercial (my 2 gay friends that "watch" the show with me every week...we discuss during commercials) are laughing in the phone LOVING every minute of the episode!!! The tub scene had them screaming!!!

Off to Costco!!! Was the store closed to just them? I have never seen an empty Costco...EVER!!! I loved the shopping!!! I disagree with a previous poster who didn't like Mark's wife along for the ride...I thought she stayed out of the way, and I don't really think Carson held back...I think he really liked Mark, and was a bit more serious with him than in episodes past. It was almost as if the makeover was of course for entertainment purposes, but also it seemed personal and truly important to the guys. Did anyone else get this impression??? I really felt a connection like I've never seen before between the F5 and this family.

The salon scene was AWESOME!!! (My husband thought the stylist was a little hottie!!!) Mark's face was priceless when he saw himself in the mirror after the cut and the removal of the handlebars!!! I swear he cried and they cut it from the final episode!!! It was sooooo moving! (phone rings...gay friends...OH MY GOD!!! HE'S SO HOT!!!)

I whole heartedly agree with a prior poster regarding the rock climbing segment with Jai. I got the impression that they were trying to convey the message "Let Karly know that you will always be there for her...even if she falls" I think it was an ingenious touch!!!

Billy the pizza [expletive deleted]!!! I laughed non stop the whole time!!! (phone rings...gay friends again...PIZZA [expletive deleted]!!!! ROTFLMAO!!!!) I thought it was cute the way that Billy played a big role in the party. Let's face it, when you have an important event...you do NOT do it alone!!! I thought it was great to have others working to make the night perfect...and I LOVED the Hugh Hefner comment!!! Pizza [expletive deleted]...LMAO!

Roe's look...Karly's look when seeing Mark for the first time after the makeover...that's what this show is all about. I cried for the first time EVER!!! I was floored. (phone rings...gay friends..."did you just LOVE this episode!!!)

I'll stop rambling now...I just have to say that I loved this show. This episode was funny, and moving, and sweet, and just terrific.

Thanks everyone for letting me blah blah blah for a while!!!

--De

You, my friend, have written one of the most well thought out posts in this thread.

Thank you...I enjoyed every word!

Hi, FraggleChick, no you didn't seem to be blasting me at all. (although I can see that others did.) My post had some snarks in it, but when I asked about Karly (there, spelled it right, people. zheezh! Not like I saw it written down. Maybe I missed reading it in the episode synopsis, otherwise how would I know? It's usually spelled with a "C".) I didn't mean anything bad by that at all. Just wanted to know. Mark refered to her as his "stepdaughter", but the Fab 5 said "daughter". Some families make the distinction more than others, I guess. I didn't expect some of the others answering this question to do so in such a defensive manner, so I appreciate your patient reply.

...I personally didn't have a problem w/ her, but she might be: I mean, look at Shana now.

Um, who's "Shana"?
nellybell27
I agree with everyone about the "father" thing. My biological father left my mother when I was 2 y.o. and my stepfather raised me until I was 12. I called him "my daddy". I would never call him anything else. In fact, I had this type of discussion with my biological father. After nearly 10 years of not knowing if he was dead or alive, he called me. He had the nerve to ask me "do you know who this is?" and I said "Yes, this is "Johnny"". Me not calling him father or dad made him mad. But BIOLOGY ALONE DOES NOT MAKE ONE A FATHER!!!!!!!
My stepfather is my dad and he will always be my dad until the day he or I die.

How do you know this?
And about your little comment to me - that was uncalled for! Where the hell do you get off coming on here and attacking my character?! No, toots, you are the "friggin moron"!
my_guy_ky
Okay, missy, first of all, a little hip tip for you: you're not supposed to quote your own comments. The quotes go around whatever the person you're replying to said.
Here, let me show you how it's done:

has enough time in a day to do a complete analysis of every move in an episode...

I always have time for Queer Eye! I am unapologetically a crazed Fab 5 fan! BTW, it took all of 1 hr. & 15 min. (One hour to watch the show, and fifteen minutes to post.) You're new here, so you didn't know this, but my posts are always an analysis of each new episode. I've appointed myself a volunteer Queer Eye critic. My views may not represent the majority, but it's more interesting than if we all felt the same way about everything in every show. I post with the intent of "agreeing to disagree". That does not justify personal attacks on me!

Quote:

as for the two beds, these people apparantly collect antiques, and when things come in sets of two, you don't break them up just because. If Carly is anything like my teens, there is always a sleep over happening... extra beds are handy...

Well, thank for enlightening me about the beds. Maybe it's the generation gap, because back in my day, I never saw more than one bed in a room for unless it was for a sibling. We took our sleeping bags over to girls' homes.

"B*tchy"?! B*tch, you know NOTHING about me, so back off! "Bitter"? Hmmm, "And I thought I was jaded and bitter." Well, if the shoe fits. Anyhoo...

...I can't imagine how hard my_guy_ky had to look to find fault with what I thought was one of the best episodes ever...

It wasn't my all-time fave, but I actually did like it, negative opinions notwithstanding. Maybe it's the amateur critic in me. I share what I like and dislike. Notice that I had some positive things to say about the show. And, unlike some of you newbies are trying with me, I did not attack anyone's character!
*Snaps* to Bravo for choosing a great make-better candidate! I had wished for a show featuring a guy with a mullet, and they delivered!

Roe might want to get a makeover herself. Her husband looks like such a stud (man that thick gray wool turtleneck looked fabo on him) she's gonna want to do a little "sprucing up" just to keep up!

Hi, milawgal. I just want to say that I envy you in that you get to say what's on your mind even if it's negative, and nobody calls you on it. How do you do it? If I say something like the quote above, I'm called, "rude", "mean-spirited", "b*tchy", etc. I'm glad you felt the same way about the wife. I made a mistake by putting a red warning on my post. I should've used a disclaimer. I was just trying to cover my butt so I wouldn't catch flack like I did in my first post about John Z. But instead, it backfired and attracted too much attention to the post.
I figure that if Roe's family can be slim, she can do it, too. They were giving the daughter nice stuff (albiet for her birthday), and her hubby has a new look, so it would make sense for her to take better care of herself. If people are so easily offended by my posts, they should see what people write on other Queer Eye sites. (Yeah, I know what you're all thinking, but I've been here a while and I'm gonna keep on keeping on as long as I please. If the mods are okay with what some of you called me, then my posts are legit. Neeners!) As a matter of fact, on other boards here, someone (who I won't name because I don't want to drag him into this, love him more than my luggage) posted about Steve S. being fat, and putting down Ross M.'s girlfriend's thighs in her tight pants and nobody attacks his character either. So, people, IF OTHERS ON HERE CAN FREELY EXPRESS THEIR OPINIONS WITHOUT VERBAL ATTACK, SO CAN I! So there!

CARPENTERS RULE!

And individuality should always be in style. Mark was a
good man to shed an old-fashioned look to please his wife
and daughter and have the Fab Five's help, but if he was
an embarrassment everyone should be so 'embarrassed'.
Carpenters work for their money and his family looked well
cared for. I loved the chime clocks, and Jai should have
helped Mark find out more about the ancestor in that
treasured civil war photograph! This man is deeper than to
be treated like a GQ model!

And what was Thom's comment on the blue glass flower about?

So far all the families chosen have been wonderful.
An adopting family would be a good choice. And a single
man over 60. And a young man just leaving for college.
How about a widower with children, or help for a man who
is supportive to a wife/child who has a serious illness or
disability? It's great meeting people from different
cultural backgrounds as well. This show should really go
places so that it does not stagnate.

And the show should have had a straight guy tip from Mark.
I would have suggested- Carpenters Rule! Measure it first!
