Just watched the first episode of this season and I loved it!!! Here are some of my favorite things about this episode:
1. Thank God, they stopped the American Express, Revlon and Lenscrafters product placements in the show. They were so annoying.
2. Watching Jonathan be completely unprofessional (with his employees, clients, clients relatives, clients jewelers, product developers and so many others)and having no idea that his behavior is wrong in any way.
3. Listening to Jonathan complain about how wiped out he was after doing only two "fingerwaves" as his day's work.
4. The preview of scenes from the upcoming shows. What was that line about "..and your beauty school education is going to blah, blah, blah..."
My only complaint about the first episode is that the other characters were developed so little. Will this season be the Jonathan Antin Show?

GAG! This has got to be the most scripted "reality" show on TV. I get that the big stress factor this season is lauching Jonathan Product but it is such a set-up. Plus, having the cameras go into his shrink's office and film his "personal moments" was so ridiculous and rehearshed, it was embarassing. Plus when he kicked the jeweler out of the hotel room b/c it was drawing attention away from his haircut...give me a break! Like a thousand things aren't going on at the salon when he does his $500 haircuts and like he hasn't done this before where the celeb or model is also getting wardrobe, makeup, on the phone etc at the same time. This show is as fake as Jonathan.

I know, I felt the same way tonight!!! And poor Alyn (sp?) I felt so bad for him, he had to totally rearange his Chicago clients only to be told that he was doing her hair for the Globes after all~I'd be angry!!! Love the new assistants, though!!!

I really enjoyed the 1st season and I'm glad the 2nd season has started. Blow Out is so ADDICTIVE! As a fellow Hair Stylist I can relate to all the drama.

I'm glad the 2nd season has started...it's been a long wait. It's always nice to see new faces and my favorites are still there. Granted, some things may be rehearsed, but so what...we all are going to continue to watch.
Kiara.....what a beautiful baby girl you have!! I miss not seeing you anymore and hope to hear from you very soon...

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Alicia got fired !!!! Go figure...
Jonathan has more drama in his little finger than most women I know.
Gay?! Perhaps?! If he can't stand the heat then get outta the kitchen.
The problems that he faces on a daily basis are normal in salons... People will be people, suck up and get over it... Do it for the love of hair:)

I posted a message on another board, but I'll repeat some of it here. I think Jonathan is showing himself to be a self-centered, shallow, egotistical jerk. I was taken in by the first season, because I really wanted his salon to succeed. However, it looks like success has gone to Jonathan's head. And this "cut-throat," shallow attitude about success is really a low factor in the American culture. Of course, this fits in Beverly Hills! When he was crying in his therapist's office about being in the cross-fire, I was screaming. He does the same thing to his employees and anyone else who does not agree with him. He wants a family? He would not understand the concept! And this bit about his throwing out the jewelers -- that was too much. Jonathan, you may THINK you are God's gift to business sense and the world, but you are not. Don't gain the whole world and lose your soul.

I know - I felt so sorry for the girl (Alia?). Certainly, she got a great hairstyle of it, but this is presumably her first big awards show like this; her first time getting all this attention from hairstylists and jewelers and the like, and he cast a sort of grey cloud all over it and more or less yelled at her mother. The look on the poor girl's face after that almost broke my heart. :/ I might be able to understand that to 'Do Hair' properly Jon needs minimal distractions, but he wasn't very tactful about it. He seems to have more a of a 'movie star' attitude than his clients. n.n

howdy all!
maybe i was spoiled when i discovered this show last season. bravo was running a mini-marathon of about 3 or 4 episodes one night. after watching those back-to-back, i had a very good sense of character development and pretty much a good who-is-who-and-whats-their-thing.
watching the first season 2 episode last night seemed to lack a bit in showing that. hopefully, that will change as the season progresses.
but i surely do miss jenn!

I had promised myself not to watch this season since I really didn't like Jonathan's attitude toward his employees. But it was on just before Queer Eye so . . .
I laughed til tears came down my face when J was talking about some of his former employees and was talking (obviously!!) about Brandon and never said his name then said, "where is he now? Who knows." Jonathan, from what I've read (which is pretty minimal--I'm not in the business), Brandon is doing quite well, thank you and isn't too far from your salon! At least his comments about Jen and Alicia (although she deserved worse) were neutral.
And the therapist's office (as others have commented) was not only so fake but so inappropriate!
Yes, I also thought it was ridiculous and hypocritical to go off on the jewelry people and the mother. Then he was late for the next appointment (is that professional?) and all over her about fitting for the dress. My understanding is that the clients are the stars, not the stylist.
And fingerwaves? In the short time I was working in a cosmetology class my understanding of fingerwaves was an entirely different thing. Oh well, Jonathan will define anything in a way to give himself the most drama.
Doubt I'll watch again. I don't need this much drama in my life.
Cheers,

I love this show, I watched the marathon last week and was glued last night. The only thing I'm sick of them saying was last year when they were all up in arms about having to "shampoo" their own customers, that was getting so annoying. But I'm really looking forward to this season, it's going to get good next week, when someone really stands up to Jonathan and tells him about his "beauty school" education, who was that guy????

Agreed! As he went into the therapist's waiting room, I said, "Surely they're not taking the camera into the therapist's office?" They did. And then we watched our boy sit there moaning, weeping and whining about wanting a family? Why?? So he can neglect the kid while he's busy with his "empire" 24/7? So in 20 years the kid will be sitting in some other therapist's office crying about his father never having time for him?
I enjoyed season 1, but this season, for me anyway, is off to a pretty rocky start.

All I read on these boards is how badly J treats his stylists...J is giving these people the opportunity of a lifetime in their chosen professions.
What showed me that he knows exactly what he is doing is the way he turned around the entire staff intervention at the end of season one. He made it about THEM not about the salon and those that understood what he is talking about (Alyn, Kiara) and still with him. The ones that rolled their eyes (Jenn) are gone.

Yeah, just like season one, when he compared his profession to that of a doctor! Ultimately, he will either fail as a business man because he doesn't listen to the experts who know more about launching a product than he does, or he will limp along as he is now doing, having a revolving door of stylists coming and going, because he doesn't have the skills necessary to manage people. He reacts to what everyone does or say, instead of taking the lead, and showing them the way. He's way too whiney to be successful. He was totally inconsiderate of Alyn, in making him change his plans, and then calling him and saying something to the effect that this is Beverly Hills and the client wanted only Jonathon. He KNEW that before he made Alyn change his plans. Bottom line- he's just not that bright, people!

I hope that they show more of the assistant Scott. He looks so cute and fun. Why is the other assistant Edward so mean? Did you see how snotty he was when Jonathan wasn't working? Overall, I thought the first eposide was fun to watch. Although I don't always agree with Jonathan's management style, you have to admire his dedication to perfection.

JONATHAN ANTIN IS THE NEW PATRICK SWAYZE!!! I am currently in cosmetology school, and I find that with all of the pressure in a salon Jonathan is handling things quite well. Afterall, he is running 2 salons one of which is in Beverly Hills! I find that Jonathan is amazing at his craft and well he's quite pleasing to the eye. Am I the only one out here that finds this guy extremely attractive? Also, would'nt it be nice if Jonathan hosted a contest, where a few lucky stylist got to visit his salons? BRAVO....THIS IS SOMETHING YOU SHOULD CONSIDER, AND BECAUSE IT IS MY IDEA I SHOULD GET TO COME ANYWAY!!

Please, someone explain to me why I found myself watching this car wreck again??? Like a car wreck, you know you don’t really want to see the carnage, but you just can’t help but take a look.
I too had promised myself not to watch this season since I found Jonathan to be such an offensive, whiney, narcissistic, prima dona publicity wh*re, but when it came time to decide what to watch during that hour, despite my better nature my remote hand inexplicably selected this show. It can only be that BravoTV has succeeded in its devious plot to perfect the implantation of subliminal mind control waves into its rerun episodes of The West Wing.
All I have to say about the therapy session is Jonathan should find himself a new one because CLEARLY the job of unscrewing all his personality disorders is too big for this lady. On the other hand, she could just be biding her time until that summer home and early retirement are paid for.
Loved his lead-in bit about some of his former employees from Season One. No shock about Alicia. Remember that painful store-to-store tour of Rodeo Drive with the Official Greeter guy introducing her around. She looked ever so thrilled didn’t she? And she hardly went out of her way to take advantage of the opportunity and drum up some business. I was surprised to hear about Jenn. She seemed very loyal and, frankly, one of the few voices of reason amidst all that melodrama and whining. Brandon -- I realize this nonsense is edited for television for maximum drama, and I agree that Brandon certainly appeared to be a cocky smarta$$ with a lot of attitude, but it sure looked to me like J’s reaction to him was competitive and acrimonious from the start and so over-the-top out of proportion to each alleged transgression that it simply HAD to be a put on . . . . . or see again paragraph re J’s need for THERAPY above.
Absolutely ridiculous, inappropriate and unprofessional behavior with the jeweler and Alia Shawkat’s mother. Poor behavior but ignorable with the jeweler, but to disrespect that girl’s mother by speaking to her with that tone? Inexcusable. And poor Alia looked so uncomfortable, so of course they chose that moment to stick the camera practically up the poor child’s nose. And HE keeps Kristen Bell (one of my newest faves) waiting for over an hour and then has the nerve to get his knickers in a twist because she had a last minute dress emergency and kept him waiting? You can’t learn that kind of narcissism – you have to be born with talent like that. That said, ultimately I thought both young women looked terrific for their big award night out in spite of the drama.
Due to that subliminal mind control thing, I’ll probably end up watching again, much to my shame. If it turns out I’m wrong about that whole mind control thing, maybe Jonathan will give me the number of his shrink. Do you suppose she’s taking new patients or is he a full-time job?

Are you kidding me? Is someone jealous??? Thats the perks of being the owner, if you dont like the way he runs his salon then go cut hair at Wal-Mart's salon!!!! I admire Jonathan, I am currently pursuing a career in acting, and Beverly Hills is cut-throat, and I'm sure he's paid his dues, if I were them I would be so thankful that I was even in the position to be bossed around by Jonathan!!!

I have never seen a more self-centered, arrogant, rude, egotisical man in my life.
I don't care about Jonathan. Any person who pays $500 for a haircut is a fool. Send the $500 to charity.
After watching the show and hearing his constant whining, and me, me, me attitude, I felt sick. The fact that he was ready to blow off one hollywood "star" for another is disgraceful. AFter HE shows up 1 hr late for the next "star", he has the audasity to be miffed when she interupts HIS time to try on her dress. WAAAAAAAAAAA!
Jonathan is nothing more than a spoiled brat. He doesn't want his stylists to think about themselves, however look at their boss.
What a loser. The therapists visit..what a joke. Poor Jonathan. I bet he paid a hefty fee to whine to her. She would have been better off with a haircut at Fantasic Sams.
While he may have talent doing hair (not $500 worth) he treats peaople like dirt. He shows no true caring for anyone but himself. He should live his life out with "Gloria".
LOSER!

Just gleamed Jonny's product range on the Sephora website and I don't understand the rationale of his product pricing. I suppose when he said-"whatever, that's your job...I'm just a stylist," was probably not all the brightest decision. Why should I pay only four to five dollars more for a bottle of shampoo in comparison to a smoothing serum (styling product)?
Core product, especially the conditioner should always market more than an emerging styling product. Also, the line does not have an anchor item; possibly an intensive repair and/or conditioning treatment. Core product is key and styling gems excel when they are just that...when they ARE gems. I'll still try the product. I get the whole Minimalist concept-but Jonny, honey-there has to be some reasoning behind the pricing. Good show besides the rest!

She's on a makeover show on TLC called "10 Years Younger." They take someone and make them over to look...uh, 10 years younger. She is the hairstylist on the show, obviously. My guess? Jonathan couldn't stand the fact that someone else in the salon had a TV show and fired her. My dream? That Jenn told him to shove it and quit. Either way, she was my favorite stylist from last season, and I am glad she is not working for that egomaniacal psychopath anymore. He is the most self-obsessed person I have ever seen. I want to gouge out my own eyes and ears everytime I watch the show, but I can't help myself. I guess it is like smoking; you know it is disgusting and bad for you, but you can't stop.

I love Jen! She is awesome, and I too hope she told Jon boy to take a flying leap!
I was excited about the new season starting, mainly because last year was such a train wreck. This year...I'm just plain scared. Being in the industry for quite sometime now and working for a major manufactuerer as an educator, this guy is single handledly portraying the perception of this industry as a bunch of emotionally, spoiled, over dramatic "artists". A persons perception becomes their reality, and this is not good. I've been asked by passengers on several flights as well as clients, since I'm all over the country, if I know this guy? If I did I wouldn't admit it!
Five things Jon boy needs to do ( I refuse to call him by his pretencious name) *no offense to anyone else named Jonathon.
1. Study Milady's Standard on finger waves what they are and how they are done. Think Charlize Theron at the Oscars 4 years ago, those were finger waves jon, jon.
2. Understand that just because one adds a pin to a "barrel curl" does not make it a "PIN curl" See Renee Z in "Chicago"
3. Before making a statement that "there is nothing I don't know about hair" THINK, because you don't.
4. If a TOTALLY Vegan product were avaialble on the market place with no sulfates or perservatives it wouldn't last but maybe three - four days and then stink to high heaven. Leave the manufacturing of products to the scientist IDIOT!
5. When in the service industry like ours, ALWAYS treat people with RESPECT! Besides Jon boy when you were doing Alaha's hair you were the HIRED HELP, not the one going to the globes!

What exactly made Jen awesome?
The fact she was supposed to be J's right hand and then basically lead a palace coup against him? OR was it that she has no expeirence running a business, yet rolled her eye in response to everything he said? OR perhaps it was that she didn;t want to work the fashion show due to leather, YET loved the idea of getting Botox injections?
To say that J fired her beacuse she is on a new show is insane, HOW do you think she got noticed for that new show!
The bottom line is this guy J can be a star maker if you let him...something Alyn realizes...(although I would have reimbured him for his changed flight if I was J)...
Sure he is an egomanic, self-centered, etc, but that describes every successful businessman of the last 25 years!

Watching Blow Out is like watching a train wreck. You know you should turn your head but ya just can't bring yourself to do it. I am hooked on this show even though it just soo bad. Jonathan is too good looking for his own good. He can't pass a mirror. Blow Out is soo scripted it isn't even funny. That whole deadline on his product line is a lie. They just did it for drama. Would you pay 500 for a hair cut by the great Jonathan?
The crack about having a fat shampoo person was awful. Are the only people allowed to live in CA a size 0? I guess the fact that I wear an 8-10 would make me morbidly obese by their standards.

I totally agree with what you said reffering to Jen Zig. She did do all the things you mentioned, however when you asked the question, "what made Jen so awesome?" I guess my point in the past post wasn't clear...her work as a stylist is technically sound and therefore her work, I feel, as a stylist with over 20 years in the biz, is awesome, as well as her look very fashion forward.
I have many a salon owner that has ego, in this industry it comes naturally. Yet when someone like J is so self absorbed in his own world to the point that he says things like "there isn't anything I don't know about hair" PLEASE!!! and then demonstrates what he calls a pin culr or finger wave...that's basic cosmetology school, granted it's not practiced that much these days but with that I see why.

Well Jenn obviously was noticed for her new show because of the first season of Blow Out. No argument there. The whole Jonathan firing her thing is just a theory, since I can't imagine him being OK with the fact that he isn't the only TV personality in his salon. Another theory is that when Jenn signed on with TLC she signed a contract stating she would not appear on a show for another network, so when the new season of Blow Out started taping she had to get out. Like I said, just theories. I really don't believe that they are that hard to imagine.

It's all well and good if you can manage not to eat or use the bathroom for 8 to 10 hours! Especially in a salon like Jonathon's with a celebrity clientel, you need help at the shampoo bowl. So maybe it was annoying to you but the reality is busy stylists need assistants to make the day flow properly.

Ugh! Is it just me or do Tina and Bethann need attitude adjustments? I know they are on the marketing side, but c'mon. Without Jonathan, there would be no Jonathan Product. Seems they should treat him with more respect and lose the attitude. They're also not very good role models for young women. It would be better to see a powerful woman who does not feel like she has to act like a (you know what) in order to be successful. People are watching you ladies and your behavior is not becoming.
