That was fun! Something different to start the new season. And, the big winners were the kids and the neighborhood because they'll have their field back. A very nice thing to do.

I thought I was kinda over the Fab 5 but NO!!! I'd just forgotten how fab they are!
I know very little about the Red Sox but I really enjoyed the interaction with the Sox, their wives and my guys. They all enjoyed each other so much.
It was different in many ways--not every one was doing his own 'specialty' but it worked just as well.
The spa concept was so much fun. And the one guy who really suffered from his waxing was hilarious. I loved that the one player could say no, I don't care for the clothing and so Carson did something more to his liking.
My guys and the little leaguers interacted so well also. The LL boys obviously enjoyed all the attention not only from the Fab 5 but (naturally) from the Red Sox.
Jai's singing of the National Anthem brought me to tears.
There was just the right mix of adult fun, kid fun and seriousness in this episode.
And the check to rebuild the LL field was the icing on the cake. Well done, QE. I kinda like the name change in that it represents that this season is going beyond just straight guy make betters to even more altruistic make overs. A great direction!
Also loved the opening for this show. Would guess each opening might be more specific to the episode rather than the generic one from the past. Rather like the Texas and UK openings.
Can't wait to read what you all think. I hope De will find time to weigh in with her observations.

IT WAS JUST WHAT I NEEDED ON A HOT SUMMER NIGHT . . .
a delightful bit of light hearted fluff from the talented Fab Five crew, the big hearted Red Sox and their supportive wives, not to mention all the other folks whose donations will help the little league restore their venue.
While some may deride a $100,000 dollar contribution to sports as frivolous, I think we should remember the many worthwhile charities that the Fab Five, as individuals and a group, have supported over the past several years. $100,000 is just a drop in the bucket compared to the millions their presence and generosity has generated.
The opening sequence was a welcome change, if only for one episode. With great humor and deft timing, it set the stage for the merry mayhem that followed.
Jai, I love you babe . . . but get a back up group when you sing the National Anthem. Your gusto and delivery were great but your pitch problems would never win you an American Idol slot. Other than that, your contribution and that of the other Fab Four was a real team effort and the result was a win-win victory for everyone.
Special thanks to the Red Sox, who took it all in stride, with humor and good will for all. The whole show was worth the extra three minutes or so, of commercials Bravo threw in. And welcome, General Motors, for recognizing the show as an important vehicle for your advertising dollars!
so sez SUPE, "Now 'play ball' everyone, it's a whole new season of fun."

What was the name of that totally hot hunk of guy... the one Carson refered to as having the "bad boy" image? I am so glad Kyan didn't cut his hair. He looked sooooo drool-worthy - especially after Carson dressed him up in that suit. Mmmmm Mmmmm GOOD. I could just eat him with a spoon.
Whew! I need to cook down a bit.
It was also great to see our guys back again. I did miss Thom's wonderful decorating skills. Yes the spa was great but I like seeing him work in real houses.
The show was good variety. The baseball guys getting all primped up was so fun to watch. They were such good sports. The only thing I _didn't_ like was the guy walking out on the field all limp wristed. I think that was a bit insulting and in mucho bad taste. But I'll try to frame it that he was just cutting up and trying to be funny.
It was a good show and I'm glad to have the fab 5 back.

Post subject: Sports shorts
Oh no, why did they mess with the usual format on this one? It was enough to do a multiple SG make-better when they visited the frat house in TX. There was too much sports talk in this one. I guess it was to attract more of a male audience this time.
I was not liking the pink and blue striped shirt on Kyan. And with the khaki slacks, it was just too preppy - and we know I don't like preppy clothes on my Ky. I don't like pink on him anyway, but I've got something else pink that I can put on him...
His hair is too short and I'm not liking the way the ends are thinned out in the back. Those wives were standing and sitting way too close to my man!
My favorite part of the show was seeing Ky in a sports uniform! "Athletes are hot!" Baseball hats frame his face nicely. Yum!!!
I liked Carson in his hot pink shirt with white pants. I just knew he'd play with someone's jockstrap in the locker room.
Had it not been for the charitable aspect of the show, I really doubt that the Fab 5 would endorse donuts. I was expecting maybe some kind of gourmet franks or something.
Jai's little cartwheel out there was so darling.
I loved the makeshift spa. I like the episodes where they redecorate the SG's home better so we can better appreciate Thom's work.
I don't get why one of the wives wants her hubby's chest shaved. She and her husband almost had matching highlights and both had exotic looking faces.
I love hairy chests myself. Kyan's chest is hairy!
Getting rid of back hair, I understand. The old men at my pool have nasty back hair. These jocks were such babies about getting their backs waxed, however. Before my trip to S'pore last year, I got my back waxed and it was a piece of cake. A bit expensive, though. But when I got to Singapore, every bit of my back broke out. It may have been a rash from the waxing, but also heat rash. I got my bikini waxed at the same time, but no rash afterward. It did hurt though.

Post subject: still waiting...
I'm with you, my_guy_ky; while I applaud the Fab Five on yet another charity benifit, I am still waiting for Queer Eye to return.
I missed Thom's decorating expertise.
I missed Jai's advise to a bumbling straight guy about how to woo his wife/girlfriend/significant other.
I missed Carson talking a man into an outfit that makes him look great, that he would never consider before.
I missed Ted cajoling a guy into cooking something special for a loved one.
I missed Kyan coaching a clueless man into better health and grooming.
Frankly, if it wasn't such a good cause, and fun to see the Fab 5 playing baseball with the kids, I would have yakked at seeing the Fab 5 pampering a bunch of millionaire ballplayers. I guess I have nothing against any of the players personally. They seemed good sports and open to the experience of getting "cleaned up" for their wives and fans.
But the Red Sox isn't just any team. They were the last major team to be integrated. Looking around Fenway Park, it is a curiosity to see a non-white fan who isn't there with a client, but there with family for his/her own enjoyment. The Red Sox passed up Jackie Robinson. They passed on Willie Mays. The so-called "curse" was largely one of their own making..
But now the Red Sox management are trying to confront the problem if only for economic reasons. They want to broaden the appeal, but I don't see that happening. I think they have a chance with the young kids, to reach out, and I applaud what they are doing, especially when they confront this unwanted legacy head-on.
But, it may be part of the reason that I considered last nights show to be one long fun and well-meaning commercial for the Red Sox and the Fab 5.
I am looking forward to a return of the original format, and the original opening themesong and graphics please please! Don't mess with success!
On a more positive note, the guys looked great in the red uniforms! And Carson was Pretty in Pink as usual.. They were great with the kids and I am glad to know that they will be dealing with more families with children this season as well as diverse "make-better" candidates.
I still can't wait!

I've been a dedicated Red Sox fan for years, and I have to say, in some ways, I wish I hadn't watched this episode. Aside from all the fun and laughter (and the wonderful aid brought to the little leaguers), it seemed like the players just didn't interact with the Fab 5 the way I was hoping - most of them seemed pretty homophobic right through to the end. The episode lacked that moment where the straight guy actually learns something and comes to appreciate what the Fab 5 have done. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Red Sox and this show, but this one just isn't sitting as well with me as I had hoped.

A very enjoyable show....not a sports fan myself,I like to see the guys in different situations and how they deal with it. It was a funny episode, thou the kids did not know how to respond to the Fab 5, I hope the kids took away a positive out look to the gay community...

Congratulations, QE and Bravo! I think the show is looking more polished than ever! I'm not much of a sports fan (although I do love Dodger dogs, beer, and singing at the 7th inning stretch!!) but the Red Sox and their wives are good peeps. Even though the acoustics at the ballpark weren't great, I could tell Jai has a great voice. I enjoyed this episode....but of course, I could stare at Thom in his baseball cap for an hour or two and be thoroughly entertained. I got all misty when the guys presented the check to the kids. Can't wait to watch this episode again and again and again!

I totally agree! This show was fantastic! The boys in those uniforms...OMG! But I have to add, when the baby pictures came on at the beginning I was no good!
All in all I loved this one! Everyone seemed to be really having fun!
And Thom in that uniform, and what I wouldn't have given to have been that woman giving him a shoulder massage......
Deb: "Okay Thom, it's time for your massage."
Thom: "Hey this isn't part of the show."
Deb: "Well we thought, because of all the physical work you do, that you needed some down time. So just lay down here, so I can get started."
Thom: "Uh...Deb, I thought you were going to massage my shoulders."
Deb: "Yeah Thom, that's right."
Thom: "Well, why are you undoing my belt?"
Deb: "I'm going to massage you."
Thom: "But like I said, why are you unsnapping my pants."
Deb: "Thom, please I'm going to give you a massage."
Thom: "But my shoulders are up here."
Deb: "Oh Thom I never was real good at anatomy....but since I'm down here, I'll just apply some of this Cleopatra Cream, and we'll get started shall we?"
Thom: "Not that cream again....hey your hands are cold."
Deb: "Oh they'll warm up real fast, don't worry."
Like I said, boy did I love this show!

Having watched this episode three times now, something has just occured to me. I suspect the exhibition game played in the episode with the little leaguers and the fab five was played by NL rules even though it was played at the Red Sox's stadium and the Red Sox is an AL team. I came to this conclusion becuase in this episode we saw Millar both batting and pitching. Of course, we also saw Millar playing a base (I think it was second, but I'm not really all that sure). Anyway, what do you guy's think? Were they playing by NL rules or AL rules?

Knowing nothing about the rules of NL or AL, my guess is that there were only the 5 (4?) real Red Sox, the Fab 5 and assorted LL players so folks were playing several positions. Just my observation.

The difference is that in the National League (NL) all the players bat. The American League (AL) allows one designated hitter, which as far as I know is always used for the pitcher. I believe little league plays by NL rules. But in major league inter-league games, they always go by the rules of the home team. And yes, I did have a fabulous time meeting the fab five.

Deb
What in the world makes you think that the few who booed were gay?
As one famous American baseball team out of many, I would say that the Red Sox are not any more "World Famous" than the unique Fab Five. And I think you meant "hallowed" ground, but I dispute that Fenway Park is hallowed (sacred) to all that many.
Why would gay people resent the Fab Five being honored?? I think it is much more likely that only a few insecure straight men made a scene to protest change or attempt to look macho. There were posts about how some local "talk radio" personalities encouraged homophobic sentiment here before the game. The booers may have been nothing more than simpleminded sheep.

I've been so busy that it's not even funny but you better bet your boots I stopped everything for Blow Out and the boys!
Had read a review that bashed this episode and kept it in mind as I watched. Yeah, I missed the old format too where they come in, tear up, rebuild, and review, but I really liked this epi too. They're baby pics at the beginning, omg I was stoked! And the slow walk in black and white - I was pointing my finger at the screen while trying to dial my phone at the same time but I was shaking too much, lol
I like baseball though I don't know details about it. Seeing them redo a few players was a nice sidetrack since it's spring going into summer. They all came out looking great but not too much different from what they originally looked like, which I think was probably the idea since they the "macho" type and probably wouldn't try to keep up with something high maintenance.
The reviewer in the article I read lambasted the boys for helping the kids "whose whole world is baseball" meet the Red Sox, etc. This person probably has no kids and/or doesn't care for them. Yes it may not be something important in the reviewer's life, but kids are different. When they have hard times, they need something to hold onto. Something they can do, something they can participate in...just something. Baseball is their something and I don't think it should be looked down upon just because the reviewer thinks there are more important things in the world. Yes there are but if the adult brain can only handle so many things at a time, what do they expect from a child?
All in all, good epi but lordy are they gonna get it next week! Quintuplet babies? More power to them - I'm not even going to lie, my hair would be stark white from the experience - this is going to be interesting!

TTB: I totally agree. Although the reviewer you've quoted may have felt that the game of baseball shouldn't be the main focus for kids, the values and social skills that children learn from being part of a team are invaluable. Cooperation, teamwork, sportsmanship, dealing with success and disappointment, the feeling of doing your personal best, etc. I remember watching a kid who was in a swim meet with my son. After coming in well behind the other swimmers, he looked up at the clock and, with a cheer and a huge smile on his face, he high fived the kids near him. I asked my son why he was so excited, and Mark said "Because he beat his previous time". Yeah, that's the spirit I'm talking about.

The reason I responded to the post was that some straight fans make an exception for the Fab 5 but are still homophobic. Are you KIDDING?!?!?!?! The Sox players were merely tolerating the Fab 5's presence. The dude with the long hair barely cracked a smile and another player thought that all there was to being gay was to soak his feet in rose petal-scented water; I think this was the same guy who sashayed limp-wristed onto the field, presumably to show off his newly manicured nails, but the swishy gesture seemed to pander to the stereotype and thus seemed homophobic. And anyone catch the player who bitched about a set of clothes Carson picked out for him? Free clothes Mary...say "Thank you" and put 'em on. ;-)
Kudos for donating their time to play an exhibition game with the kids. But IMHO, the Sox should be embarrassed for choosing such unenthusiastic people to represent their team as straight ambassadors (so to speak).

I believe little league plays by NL rules. But in major league inter-league games, they always go by the rules of the home team. And yes, I did have a fabulous time meeting the fab five.

Knowing nothing about the rules of NL or AL, my guess is that there were only the 5 (4?) real Red Sox, the Fab 5 and assorted LL players so folks were playing several positions. Just my observation.
BTW Witchgirl, thanks for the pix, you obviously had a FABULOUS time!

Actually, I'm not so sure they were playing by ANYBODY'S rules.

I liked it, even though I'm always suspicious when Bravo starts wanting to change things - this was a fun change, just as something different. I liked everyone being around the entire time, instead of the segmented parts we usually have. I wouldn't want that to be permanent because I love the format the way is has always been, but this was fun.
And I know nothing about baseball other than if I was forced to play at school, I always stayed as far in the outfield as I could possibly get and hoped nobody would hit the ball to me. I did at least realize the Red Sox won the World Series and it was a really really big deal, but I wouldn't have recognized any of them. Have to say I agree with Ted about that one looking like a caveman at a garden party.
The game at the end was great. I think my favorite thing was Thom telling the kid, "Hit it to Carson - he'll never get it, and you can run for days!"
My best friend worked at the Port Charlotte hospital several years ago, so I've actually been there. It's TINY. But very pretty.

Wow - that's, like, really complicated. I'm thinking this was a pretty unstructured game too, though. One of the players was lugging a kid around the bases, which is probably frowned on in more formal game situations.

That's true, although I think that was Thom lugging the kid around. Of course, Thom was also trying to distract the batter, which is another thing that is frowned on in more formal game situations.

LOL. That's what I was referring to. (I think that would be called "interference", ) Not to mention that Carson almost got run over a couple of times because he was (inadvertingly) blocking the base path. Anyway, I would have loved to have been in the stands watching the entire thing. Looks like it was a lot of fun! And, hey, Kyan got a hit! He has said in articles that he was never into sports, but he (and Thom) seemed to know what they were doing out there.
Good Times!

Of all the guys, I can see Thom and Kyan, out of the five as being the most athletic. And I must say Thom looks incredibly sexy in that uniform!
And I am not a sports fan whatsoever......but Thom can come to my house dressed in that uniform anyday!!

I agree with that. Although Carson certainly did his homework; he actually knew what an ERA was, which is not something that I would have thought Carson would know.

I don't think I mentioned this yet, but what about those sexy cars that Thom and Kyan were driving?!? (Go on, Paris....say it for us, "That's hot!")
Other highlights I missed the first time around:
Dunkin' Donuts Turbo Coffee.......yum!
parafin hand wax......yum!
lobster mango cocktail.....yum!
Doug Mirabelli......yum! (Tomasulo...Filicia....Mirabelli...yup, I guess you could say I've got a thing for Italian guys )
and I'm a straight girl but Michelle Damon......yum!
Ted (in the outfield): "Don't hit it to me.....don't hit it to me....."
(I'm with raindog and Ted....this was a flashback to my schoolday sports memories.)

Seriously now, Deb, if Thom went to your house, how long do you think he would actually remain in that uniform?
"Oooh, Thom, that uniform looks great......crumpled up on the floor next to my bed." (Background music: You Can Leave Your Hat On by Joe Cocker)
Now you know one of us had to go there!!
