What do you think of this weary dad and even more weary wife Silvia?
witchgirl
I'm amazed that they got the kids to pretty much stay in one place in the loft.
FernLaPlante
eh. They were fine. In case anyone was wondering the song playing while Paolo was making dinner and getting ready was "Chicken Payback" by 'Free the Bees.'
notevayas
They should have left Paulo's hair long! Silvia had a sexy voice.
I'm tired from watching those kids.

Hi my name is Lauren and I loved seeing them babysit. But did anyone notice that the Fab 5 loft location has changed. If anyone can find out what the new location is that would be great. Thank You so much Lauren

This is a funny episode....any parent, especially moms knows what these parents go through...if you have 2 or 5, kids will wear you out....the guys did an excellent job...they all would make great fathers....but how long would they last on a daily basis??? It isn't easy being a parent!!!
cats4
Is this the same loft...or do we see Thoms genius at work...
LilQueerEyeFan
I liked this episode. Paolo and Silvia really needed some time alone just to enjoy themselves. It would be very stressful to have 5 kids, all the same age. Now for the Fab 5. The Fab Five seemed like they do well with kids and were having fun with them. We got to see very playful sides of the guys. Which, in my opinion, was very entertaining and interesting. That is all I have to say for now. I'll think of more to say about this episode if I watch it again.

They film the loft scenes in a studio now (recreated the loft in a studio), because it's too expensive to film them in a real loft.

I was in the delivery room the day the Povolo quintuplets were born -- July 4, 2002.(I videotaped the births.) Silvia and Paolo had a rough start, but have faced the exciting challenge of parenting their own "Fab 5." A mother of triplets myself, I often marvel at how they manage that beautiful brood of wonderful children. Victoria, Ashley, Michael, Masha (my adorable godson) and Marcus are healthy and happy - despite all the tears! (Their individual personalities shone through in the episode.)

I was lucky enough to see the redecorated house before the show premiered and was so very happy to see what had been done for this very loving family. The upstairs loft was the perfect solution to curious toddlers who climb out of cribs. The quints have never been separated and this was a way to keep them in the same room, but give them some individual space. Sensational!

I didn't let my trips stay up last night to watch (it's a school night) but I know come 4 pm this afternoon, they will be glued to the set for the broadcast.

Every couple needs time alone, but parents of multiples experience their children in stereo - full throttle intensity all the time. Thank you to the Queer Eye Guys and to all the participating vendors who have brought such joy to the Povolos!

Ciao Paolo y Silvia!

Thanks Naomi....thought we were seeing more of Thoms genius at work...did Thom have a hand at designing the studio loft???
tomasulo
duggantrips: Thank you for posting....it's great when someone who knows the SG and his family shares their own personal insight. I totally agree that this ep showed the quints as individuals and I can only shake my head in amazement at Paolo and Silvia. It appeared that as tired and overwhelmed as they must be, they still realize the precious gifts they have. The Fab 5 made super "dads"....Thom, what can I say? Outstanding! Can this guy get any more loveable?!?!?

Good luck with your triplets. I too will be watching this ep again at 4pm today (and again at 8pm) so I'm sure I'll have more comments later.

(notey, I agree with you about Paolo's hair....I thought the long hair made him even hotter....and we all know that I have a thing for Italian guys!)
pepitothedog
Can anyone tell me what type of balsamic vinegar they used with the fruit? What a great summer snack!

Thanks!
tomasulo
duggantrips: If I'm doing the math correctly (and that's a big IF), does that mean that the Fab 5 filmed this episode in January of 2005? Just curious.
tomasulo
I noticed that they've snuck in the White Strips again.....this time with Carson doing the dirty work. (Maybe Kyan was just as tired of that product as some of us!) Don't get me wrong....I'm grateful to Crest and all of the other sponsors who make this show possible....and I did get pretty good results from the White Strips when I used them.
signladybc
I'm with you, Tomasulo. I watched my videotaped epi at around 10:30 last night--I was ALREADY tired and the 5+5 just wore me out even more. I'll have to watch again for more depth but first impressions were fun, but LOUD!
I agree--all 5 of our guys were so cute with the babies. I was particularly interested in Ted's interactions since in the past he has appeared quite reserved with kids.
There was a little too much focus on baby poop I thought--shades of Showdog Moms and Dads--but they were all very funny about changing diapers etc. Loved the poop chart and adding whoever's (I said I was watching with only 1 eye and 1/2 of my brain) poop to the chart.
I hardly remember the before home but did wake up enough to admire the babie's new loft. Never even noticed the FF's 'loft' interesting, Naomi, that it is now a set.
Liked the fashion show for Paolo and for the two little boys. Did the girls get new clothes too?
These quints were really developmentally amazing! Often multiple birth children have multiple difficulties as well but these kids seemed to have great language development and individual personalities.
I think the personal 'spa' things Kyan tries to convince makebetter guys to share with their significant others are all so funny! I'm sure a lot of it is the cameras but the gals just rarely seem to appreciate the attempts as much as I would expect.
I'll comment more later, maybe, although my time is disappearing fast before I head to San Diego this weekend for my son's wedding.
Blessings,

Yeah, I agree on the poop - EWWWWWW. I was with Jai when he said if diapers were being changed, he was out of there. They all seem good with kids, but I think Thom and Carson must have spent quite a bit of time around them. Well, I did too with my nieces and nephew, but I tried to avoid diapers!

I was surprised at how well those kids talked, and how bright they all seemed to be too. I (obviously) am not around kids a lot, but they seemed really advanced to be so young. And I didn't even think about how often multiple birth children are behind in developing. They were REALLY cute.

Who were the "volunteers", though? That was weird.

Good luck at the wedding, Signlady!
tomasulo
I'm not grossed out by the dirty diapers or the focus on poop.....but I wanted to gag when Carson was playing with the snot-sucker! When my kids were babies, it was understood that I would handle poop (and puke) but Tom was in charge of boogers. Go figure! (Is this something we really needed to know about the Tomasulo's?)
duggantrips
The volunteers were two lovely people from the Povolo's church who have helped the family with feedings and infant care from the very beginning. They gave the best gift they possibly could -- their time!

As for the diapers, I thought the guys' treatment was charming. Never underestimate the number of diapers a single baby can go through in an average day -- never mind quints!

If you look at the chart in the kitchen, you'll see that it was taped in Winter 2005. The quints will be 3 on July 4.

Thank you for the info......and if you get a chance (the mother of triplets probably finds her days pretty full!), please check back a day or two before the quints birthdays. I'm sure the peeps here will want to extend their happy birthday wishes and prayers, and it would be much appreciated if you could pass along those wishes to Paolo and Silvia.

I didn't tell Paolo and Silvia that I would post...they're very modest!

I would be delighted to share birthday greetings when the time comes! They are a very special family.

I wondered if it was something like that - it seemed odd they weren't mentioned in the rest of the show (or it was edited out) but I'm glad to know the Povolo's have some help!

They must have to spend a FORTUNE on diapers.

I liked paolo's hair better long I did't like Silvia's she should have gotten the hair cut insted. Thom baonded with his kid most it seemed Kyan didn't so I hear. I'm loveing the Carson lady comments latey.

Did anyone else notice that each member of the Fab Five matches his assigned kid? I don't think it's a coincidence.

I would love to find the recipe that Ted used for the lamb/pasta dish. It looked "Fab" but don't know what the actual name of the dish was.

Another fun and excellent eppy!

It's called a lamb pastitio, and it's yummy.

You know, Silvia has some alone time coming to her. The quintuplets will be old enough to go to preschool this fall.

If you meant personality-wise, it was intentional. In the Denali, Carson gave a nutshell description of each of the quints: Victoria is the oldest (she went to Ted), Masha was the sensitive one (Jai actually volunteered when he heard that....he may have wanted to change his mind later), Ashley was a bit of a prima donna (everyone...except Kyan... thought she would best suit Kyan), Michael is the big eater (Thom knew that was a match and said he would take Michael out for a milkshake....he kept his promise), and Marcus liked to dress up (a perfect match for Carson).

No, I meant shirt-wise. Ted was wearing a purple shirt and Victoria was wearing a purple shirt. Jai was wearing a yellow shirt and Masha was wearing a yellow shirt. Kyan was wearing a pink shirt and Ashley was wearing a pink shirt. Thom was wearing a green shirt and Michael was wearing a green shirt. Finally, Carson was wearing a blue shirt and Marcus was wearing a blue shirt.

First of all, if anyone has not listened to Kyans podcast on the opening page of this site.. it's so frank and funny! Kyan explains that he had trouble with his quint Ashley. He explains that she would not stop crying and that at first Ted helped him and then Carson.
Funny, because from the editing, Kyan gave the impression of being able to reason with little Ashley, while Carson seemed to inspire tot tantrums.. Ted amd Thom seemed to hold their own, while Jai seemed to be overwhelmed. Yet, I can see Carson, Kyan and Jai with their own kids someday. Thom and Ted seem more the "uncle" type.

About this episode, I can't get it out of my head that Paolo told us that Silvia almost died! These five children could have easily been motherless, and Kyan mentions how closely bonded the five are to their mother.

The issues surrounding fertility treatments have been glossed over, and I am too ignorant in this area to form any kind of opinion. One poster brought up the issue of multiples having developmental difficulties, but at least two of the children seemed remarkably well-spoken for their age! That speaks to them getting so much love and attention and stimulation. These are read-to and talked-to children! I bet they are exposed to good music as well as good food!

After being graced with a peek at this beautiful family, I can't imagine the world without any one of them. I imagine that it must have been frightening for Silvia to learn that she was pregnant with five children at once! I can only imagine that medical advice was against putting such a strain on her heart, but that her maternal instincts would not let her part with any of her embryos.

Yet I have heard that in some fertility treatments many fertilized eggs are sacrificed and that is an ethical issue for some people.
It is obvious to me that Paolo and Silvia have the intense kind of love that would make having biological children very important to them (as opposed to adopting). It obviously was not an ego thing.
But after almost losing his wife, and dealing with any health problems for her and/or the children, I wonder if Paolo has any advice for other men considering the same path?

I really liked seeing Thomy during this eppy. And the way he was so playful with the kids. Especially when he took one of the boys for a milkshake and took a nap while hanging on to the stroller. (Notice how both heads are angled the same way.)
Thomy was excellent at keeping the kids content while Ted was explaining stuff to Paolo.
The sippie cups part was very funny

What did you think of the Kyan and Thom moment when they were trying to put toys away, was it in the plastic bucket?

That was very cute. Actually, that tip was something I used to do with my nieces & nephews years ago when they were kids. Unfortunately, it only works for about a minute! LOL
lovedby3boys
I just watched this episode and came to search for a msg.board to post how delighted I was with the family choice. Having a house full of boys I know how tough it can get, and being an outsider trying to step in, is surreal. I am delighted that the Fab 5 accomplished this. Sylvia you are a terrific mom, you are doing an outstanding job. So, they cried a bit, I would too if someone would take me shopping:) (tears of joy that is..)
Anyways, I did wish that it was Paolo that had gotten the facial so that he would have experienced the treat he would be giving to his wife.
thanx for a fun tv night. loved it.

Very funny! Looks like they're doing this for all the upcoming episodes. Did you listen to Carson's message from the Red Sox episode?

I think there was a lot of creative editing for all of them. I have a friend with a kid that same age, and she had a hard time getting him used to Day Care because he was very close to mommy - and it sounds like those kids on the episode had gone to day care yet, so the mommy-bond was likely very strong. (Can you imagine how much Day Care would cost for 5?????)

Not knowing Sylvia's and Paulo's situation, or what kind of treatment she had, it really wouldn't be fair to them for us to get into those issues here. I've known woman who have used fertility treatments (some successfully and some sadly not) and it's a very emotional topic that isn't taken lightly. We should all concentate on those 5 wonderful, beautiful children.

That would be an interesting angle to hear about. You don't hear from the husband too often in this situation.
Shaybo
One my co-workers had trouble getting pregnant, so she tried fertility treatments, but after spending thousands and thousands of dollars trying she finally gave up. At first she was kind of down over the fact that she couldn't get pregnant, but she decided it wasn't in the cards for her.
I'm happy to see that S and P got their familly because there are so many people out there that have children and don't deserve to have them. They treat them like they're dirt under their finger nails or worse. They looked like they make great parents and the FF would make excelent fathers someday.
On that note I'm getting off my soap box now

I just got done listening to Kyan's podcast and I agree with Note it was frank and funny! I hope they continue with these podcasts! And I thought Kyan handled Little Ashley rather well but after hearing this maybe not! Again Thom loved being with the kids and I just so laughed when he had that diaper on his head!

And Kyanites how about that chocolate lip treatment being put on Kyan's lips and then him licking it off afterward! I don't know about anybody else but I wanted to be Paulo there! And most of the time I marvel at Kyan's hair transformations but I liked Paulo too when his hair was longer, sorry Kyan!

I'm glad all the hips tips and loft scenes were back-a comfort thing, I don't know! I do like the way they split the screen now.

Hat's off to Paolo and his family-there is lot's of love there!

My bad. The next time I watched the episode, I realized that you were referring to the way the Fab 5 coordinated the colors of their outfits. Good catch, witchgirl.

I absolutely loved this episode! It was so cute seeing our guys with the children. They did such a great job and I know P and S enjoyed their night alone. I too have listened to Kyan's podcast... It was very funny. After I listened to it I watched the episode again and I saw Carson with Ashley. I didn't notice it the first time I watched. I like the lady who came in with the cupcakes and cheeseballs. Her tip about screaming when children are crying really does work. It's amazing! I've tried it myself... lol. After watching this I think all the guys would make great dads! Love you guys!

Hi I know this might be strange but I need help picking out a hip outfit for my husband this summer to go to concerts, such as green day and howie day, ect, ect. Can anyone give me a good idea of a good unsomble would look like, We are only 26. He is very skiny 5'7" Blonde hair blue eyes. Would there be layers? what kind of colors, I would like us to look in since with one another, not matching, but we should go together. All he owns is suits and ties so this is a big deal and we a short on cash so he really only gets one outfit. Thanks, Nicole We are going tomarrow to the mall so any imput would be loved thanks
Superannualted
5'7", skinny, blonde/blue eyes.

O.K., Let's see!

1. No shorts or cut-offs . . . they emphasize the negative.
2. How's about white jeans, sandals, and a slightly oversized, solid shirt in light blue or turquoise, tucked in. Long sleeves jszsched(?)up. Coordinate yourself in white from the waist down, with a solid top in a different color -- mimic the style, not the color.

I post from work and won't be able to post on July 4th so I have to say this a bit early:

Happy Birthday times FIVE to Victoria, Ashley, Michael, Masha and Marcus!!

And big hugs to Paolo and Silvia
design_daddy
THOMY is the design genius...he's TOPS #1 in my heart
Bummer I don't see him featured in any design magazines.
Is his design company very small, because all I have seen advertisted in those design magazines, is Isaac M. Colin C., etc???
tomasulo
Forgive me for being a little early (I won't have computer access on July 4th), but I want to wish a big Happy Birthday to Victoria, Ashley, Michael, Masha & Marcus!!!!! If my tired old brain serves me right, the quints will be 4 on July 4th. Hope you are healthy, happy, and growing big and strong. Much love to you all and to your wonderful Mom and Dad.
