Discuss Patrick's "make-better" right here!
KCee
The episode even isn't over yet - but I have to start out by saying that Patrick has incredibly pretty eyes!

Wasn't this the episode that had the leaked editing script and caused all the hooha?

Less than a minute into the episode, and Jai's snarking on Thom. "It's hard to make friends when you're fat. Look at Thom." Ted: "Thom has friends." Jai: "Yeah, but he pays them!"

Patrick looks very good. Lots of props. And hopefully he'll follow through on the socialization and the muscular therapy, both of which will do a lot for the self-esteem, which looked like it'd taken quite a beating. Patrick seemed to do a lot better at the party, where he was on his home turf with people he knew around him, than he did on his initial foray into the bar scene, where he seemed so tense and *nervous* that it actually was kind of uncomfortable to watch. He was a lot sweeter and more likable once he let his guard down. And here's hoping he keeps Thom's advice about ye olde double standard in mind (big props to Thom), because it's no good resenting someone for something you'd do yourself.

I also thought it was sweet that during the toast Ted and Thom clinked glasses with each other before the mass clinkage.

During the reveal, Ted's hair and shirt made him look about ten years old. Even though Thom apparently likes to call him Grandpa.

I got nothing else.

Yeah, I think it was.

Wasn't Thom noted as "the fat one" in the SNL skit? While it's good to see Jai give some snark for a change (instead of always being on the receiving end.), perhaps it was a tad mean-spirited, but perhaps no more so than the entire carload of guys referring to Kyan as a prima-donna a couple of weeks ago.

Agreed! That was a bit odd.

Totally agree! While I do understand Patrick's resentment, BRAVO to Thom for pointing out the double-standard! I think that perhaps Patrick never had anyone mention it that way before.

I didn't notice either. Must go back to the tape.

Me neither, for now.

My one observation on this episode was that Thom seemed rather quiet.....distracted, if you will. did anyone notice him on his cell phone at one point, and he quickly turned it off when the camera came around....JMO

Anyway, all in all it was a good episode, kind of back to just a straight guy getting help...like the old days.....good for him losing the weight.....I can't think of anything else now.....I'll post later....

The outfit that Ky wore in most of the episode was low-key. He reminded fans of his own scoliosis when he wore the SG's back brace and introduced him to his gyrotonic instructor. I wonder whether poor Ky had to wear a back brace growing up. At the gyrotonic gym, Kyan looked great with shorts on sitting there with his legs apart, and he looked even sexier in what he wore in the SG's new home gym.
Carson was funny, yet gross when he blew bubbles through the toilet brush. I usually love when Carson uses pet names on the SGs once in a while, but this calling the SG "Patches" was overdone this time. Just sayin'. I liked his outfit. Carson's teeth seemed brighter than ever. He must've really made use of the Whi*e Stri*s that he pitched before. I'll bet it made Carson's day to measure the SG's inseam.

Thom was spot on when he helped the SG address his bitterness toward women, doubting that the SG had ever approached some woman who had a weight problem herself. They gave him quite a home gym.

I liked Jai's Hip Tip. *singing* Jai is in love! Jai is in love!

I missed the first few minutes of the show, so I didn't find out what the SG does for a living and why he lives in his parents' basement. Perhaps he rents from them. I honestly didn't feel much connection with this SG and was a bit puzzled about his being an Italian wannabe. I also think his mom babies him. Lately, it looks like the "Mamas" have been trying to steal the show. Hmm, I don't really have much to say about this episode.

notevayas adds...

I missed some of the show also - including the first couple of minutes.. (thanks justhuman for mentioning that the SG was a college student at Hofstra University, and thanks Naomi for the info that Kyan never had his back treated properly as a child and that is why it curves.)

But my_guy_ky you didn't mention the funniest (besides Carson) part of the show was when Ted was giving his cooking instructions.. And I loved when the straight guy (Patrick) complains about Ted razzing him because he didn't catch a fish and Ted did.. and Ted goes something like.. I'm the gay guy from out of town and I catch fish OF COURSE I'm going to razz you!!

But what had me falling off my chair laughing was when the SG's father had to take over the grill and couldn't get his son's attention. And when SG senior finally lifts the lid, his planked fish is on fire!!!
I could hear him thinking, "Who's the genious who grills fish on a sliver of wood!" And then to top it all off, the veggies get knocked on the dock and the implication is that the SG serves them anyway.. ??!!

Gay = Grilling fish on wood?
Straight = Serving dirty vegetables?

Well Ted on a fishing trip is a fantasy of mine now, though I doubt I could convince him to trust our small boat. I noticed that the SG lives so close to the water! No trees in between! That must be a problem in more ways than one.

I did not hear the part where Thom takes up for women by mentioning that the SG should not be "bitter" because he was no more likely to approach a woman with a weight problem, than women were likely to approach him back when he was big, but I respect him for being sensitive to the double standard. Thom and I may have been women in a previous life.. But I can't say that I like what he did with the apartment. He catered too much to the SG's sense of style. It was too modern and cold and totally ignored the setting. I agree with Thom that fishnets and buoys are silly, but there is a trick to bringing the outside.. in. Thom chose to ignore the unique setting and give the SG his version of Soprano chic. And the blowups of aincent ruins on the walls was tacky tacky tacky! It was so unlike the tasteful prints of English landmarks that Tom had framed and displayed in the American couple's apartment outside of London. The whole apartment screamed immature and insecure and that is exactly what the SG has to overcome!

Carson also pandered to those qualities in his very conservative and dark choices of clothing. This is a guy who has the potential to move forward, and his uptight vision was humoured. Patrick could have chosen those outfits for himself Carson! They looked great though. <Sigh.> I like the SG to be "pushed" a bit more. This one was treated with kid gloves. Why?

I have more and more respect for Kyan's contribution as a health guru more than a salon guy. Jai, I almost disliked in this episode. He bounces around too much like some stereotypical teenage girl. Taking the SG to a singles bar and pointing out girls like sushi. Bad form.

Exactly. I kind of enjoyed how stunned he seemed to be when Thom said that. Every time Patrick mentioned being bitter about women paying more attention to him thin than fat, I'd think, "Well, welcome to OUR world, pal!!" I'm well within a normal weight range (although naturally I'm always trying to lose weight, since that's just what we DO) but if I lose five pounds I start getting eyed by guys on the greenway where I walk. It's kind of funny, although annoying.

I think this was the only apartment Thom's done that I REALLY didn't like. Even the ones that aren't my taste at all I still appreciated. Maybe it was that epileptic-fit-inducing carpet. It just seemed like it took over the entire place and that was all I could see - WAY too much going on with that carpet.

And when I could drag my eyes away from the carpet, the wall thing made it look like a Greek restaurant from the 70s.

You're right, Deb. I did notice Thom on his cell when they were waiting for Carson to bring in Patrick. I read on str8girl's site that this ep was taped in late September (no, that wasn't me he was talking to) but we do know now that he was in the Bahamas on October 2 for a wedding. Along with his business responsibities, this must have been a very hectic time for him. Hey, Pumpkin, do you need a personal assistant?

(Good grief, can someone tell me why Tomasulo is jumping up and down in her cubicle yelling, "ME! ME!"?)
tomasulo
Had to giggle when Kyan and Thom teased Ted by joking that "if it's in the ocean, Ted wants to kill it"....or something like that. (No worries, Ted....seafood is my favorite.) Also, I couldn't help but notice that Kyan's sideburns rivaled Thom's for sexiness in this episode. Wooo, it's gettin' warm in here!

Yep. I went to one of my high-school reunions about 20 pounds thinner than I was when I graduated. (And, when one is short, those 20 pounds can be a couple of dress sizes.) Anyway, I got noticed by all those guys that wouldn't previously give me the time of day. So, I can relate.

(BTW, I have since gained back 10 of those pounds. Oh well.)

I think it was the MadTV skit (SNL had Jimmy Fallon impersonating Carson and Elijah Wood as the Jaibird), but you're right.

Personally, I think Patrick is gay.

He's acting exactly the way I did when I was younger. Saying he resents girls. Acting shy, etc.. His best friend winked when he said 'girls', and Patrick said "I like thick wood" (ok, so I just threw that last one in for fun).

anyway, he's gotta be gay. I think he just wanted the free makeover
notevayas
tommy,

The reason I don't believe you is because you have never posted here before, and you use your first and probably only post to suggest that someone is gay and is a liar and a cheat for being on the show.
It sounds like you are jealous of Patrick and it's easy to see why. He's good looking and popular and has cool stuff.

Maybe it wasn't a good idea for the Fab 5 to have his old classmates from school invited to his make-better party because you sound like one of those people who resent Patrick's accomplishments and good fortune.
Go suck on a rock.

think what you like.

anyway, what do you mean by "don't believe you"? I'm not asking you to believe me. I was just stating my opinion. He's lived his life the same way I did when I was younger. Same attitude, same stance on women. I just saw a similarity and said so. No biggie.

Oh, I think it was a terrible idea. Why haven't any of his 'friends' seen him? If my classmates didn't like me before, I sure wouldn't care if they liked me now. I was very surprised he didn't make a stand against that idea.

He deserves better than to have his stated sexuality called into question over such flimsy 'evidence'. Lots of straight guys have trust issues with women. Lots of gay guys have trust issues with men. Hi, am brand new here and will immediately apologise for diverting this thread.

I am just trying to establish how far behind we are on the show - last night we saw the one with the 40 year old Buddhist convert who eats only fruit? This being I think the episode immediately after they did the Queer Eye for the British Guy?

Hi there. I take it that you're not in the US? You are at least a season back, if not two, but I'm not sure exactly when the season breaks were. But they're airing in a totally different order for you. The Buddhist guy (Michael C) aired I think early in the 2nd season. But, the episodes where they went to England was much later - possibly in the 3rd (???)

Go up to the top of this board and click on the "episodes" link. Use the pull down menus and you'll see all of the episodes that have aired here in the US.

You might be referring to Michael Coffino (its a bit confusing because although he was a Buddhist and ate "fruit soup", he also ate meat and vegetables). That was episode number 128, however the episodes are usually not shown in the order in which Bravo/SCOUT has them numbered. The British episodes were number 154 and 155. We are presently watching third season episodes (for the most part). I don't blame you for being confused.

No need to apologize....you are welcome here and we're generally a warm, fuzzy, sweet group of peeps.

Talk about being "hooked"....you're talking to a major hooker!.....uh....wait.....let me rephrase that.....you're talking to a major addict! Do you have a favorite among the Fab 5? (I know we're on the wrong thread but I'm a maverick.....as well as an addict )

Not really at this stage. I enjoy Carson's humour but there is something good about all of them - give me time and I am sure a favourite will emerge.

Hi Rob. I'm in England.
The last season (the last season in the US) finished airing in the UK about a month or two ago. Usually we're only a few episodes behind them. The new season only just started in the US a few weeks ago (four episodes have aired so far), so right now Living are showing repeats, but in completely random order.

The new season (that's just begun in the US) should probably start fairly soon, I guess in a month or so? I think Living have to be a certain number of episodes behind the US, because in the US they skip weeks sometimes, while in the UK that doesn't usually happen, so they have to be a bit ahead of us so we don't catch up or overtake them. I haven't heard when the new season will start on Living yet, though.

Hi Naomi,

Thanks for clearing that up. We have only had the cable a few weeks, and only recently discovered Living (we are slow learners and had to get over our 80's music fetish first). It is good to know we are not too far behind the US - makes conversing about shows that bit easier.

you're very good at taking not-so-harsh words and adding lots of fuel. I said "i think he's gay". I didn't call him a liar. I was simply stating my OPINION. Obviously this is (yet another) discussion board where it's the regular's way or the highway.

I don't know what boards you're used to, but you won't make any friends here with language like that. It's true that notey is a "regular" and has earned respect over time with his well thought out opinions. He has had my back on more occasions than I care to go into at this time so you'd better believe I won't stand by and allow him to be called names by anyone. If you can find a way to disagree without attacking, you can bet your best pair of Pradas that you will find some great pals here. And if you need a fresh start, I say go for it. "The highway" can be a scary place (at least in California).....much better to pull up a comfy chair, pour yourself a drinkie poo, bring me a drinkie poo while you're at it......and play nice. Just like the Fab 5.

Hey Susan,

I read that article and I started laughing and then I stopped and thought "What kind of father 'outs' his son at 2 months old?? Then I thought of that SG "Alan" who was trying to get on all the reality shows and was an aspiring actor, and I thought, OK.. this guy just wants attention.
But it's a dangerous world and to label your baby "gay" is irresponsible. And then I thought of this tommmygirl who must definitely be a teenager cause school just let out for the summer - right? She seems to think it is "no big deal" to call someone gay who says he is straight and goes on a show as a SG "straight guy". If he was gay, he committed fraud.
There are plenty of straight guys who are more interested in sex than gender on an individual basis. But what they most seem to want out of life is a wife and a family.

Just because Patrick has beautiful eyes and a home gym does not make him gay!

I might post that I wonder if he is.. or I wished that he was.. but for her to say that she thinks a man who represented himself as a straight guy on Queer Eye is gay DOES mean that she was calling him a liar and a cheat because that would be fraud, and probably actionable if he knew at the time.

But I'll let it go now. School has just gotten out for the summer and kids say "He's gay." all the time with no evidence, and think nothing of it because they don't have responsibilities and get their meals and bed made for them.

How do I know tommmygirl is a bored teenager? or a straight girl?
Well it's just my opinion!!

Naomi is a MAJOR source of information for the peeps here! She's got an inside track and she's extremely generous with information. She's cute and brilliant! I don't think I've really thanked her enough for this so I'll do it now........(pause for commercial interruption)......THANK YOU, NAOMI!!!!

I <heart> you. *blows kiss* BTW, I owe you an e-mail. 'Bout that thing, that I was going to do, that I did, that I was going to tell you about? Later.

You're freaking me out. I thought I was the only person who says <le sigh> INCLUDING the brackets.

I have almost 900 posts here and that was the first time I posted <le sigh>. I think I picked it up from the CarsonKressley.com message board. I have a pretty accurate intuition (when I'm not being an a$$) and I guess somehow I associated that particular affectation with you. Go figure!
Anywayhow, I have been here long enough to have made my share of gaffes. It's funny though.. usually I get on my "high horse" when I feel someone is disrespecting the Fab 5 by ignoring the fact they are gay. I usually say the straight guys are fair game because they agreed to be on tv. Even when the straight guys post, I sometimes tease so badly. Tomasulo probably remembers when I got into a name-calling competition with one of the Bravo twins. And I sort of Liked him.. I'm nuts.

Something about Patrick just made me all protective. And that's funny because he could break me in half judging by the way he was smashing those ice bags on the ground.

I think I might feel this way more often now that Queer Eye is moving towards choosing more exceptional men, though many of the previous SG's were primo also.

If it's Ted being referred to as not being a "young man anymore" - I'd say almost every one because they snark on Ted's age all the time. LOL. If you're referring to the one where Thom referred to himself as being old - shoot, I can vision the scene but don't recall which eppy it was. I'll get back to ya on that one.

I was watching the rerun of this episode earlier today, and I noticed that when Carson is measuring Patrick's inseam and Jai is hiding behind Thom, Thom does this funky little dance/[censored] thing for a second. He has this goofy look on his face, too. Weird.

Hey, notey. People should probably know that seeing as this article was in The Onion, it's fake... you probably knew that and were just commenting on it, but thought other people should know. My dad loves the Onion, reads it all the time... just for a good laugh, though.

I think THOMY was running out of a design store and remarked."..."?!

Thomy is quite a crazy nut sometimes with his facial expressions and silly body moves. He makes me laugh so much-and his funny phrases

Yeah, I knew it was for humour, but if this guy is really the father of that 8 month old in the photo, he is badly using his child for laughs.
You probably did not see my posts on "ShowDogs Moms and Dads"(excellent show!) asking people to please boycott the show "Sportskids Moms and Dads" because I do not believe in exploiting children's bad family situations for entertainment. SignladyB and a few others were supportive of me in that.
Others didn't see what the big deal was about.
The Big Deal Is That...
It is the duty of adults to protect children. Every person deserves a decent childhood. I live in an affluent community and I have seen parents haranguing children in the supermarket, telling them about the family problems as if they should share the burden of worry.
It's a cruel world. There may be many people who would like to help children in bad situations, but they know they can't. Unfortunately, there are predators that see unhappy children as easy marks, and they are much more likely to intervene to the child's profound detriment.. Bravo should not showcase children at all, nevermind children who are browbeaten and humiliated by their insufficient parents who would agree to any conditions just to get five minutes of attention for themselves.

I am so with you on this. Showkids Moms and Dads just seems like thinly disguised child abuse to me. At best, it's people exploiting their poor kids for their own gain. I think it's pretty low of Bravo, too.
tszuj-it
TheOnion is all complete fiction. They use the same photos every week. Just some random old stock photo of a man with a child. The piece probably wasn't even written by someone with kids. Not that the point about using children isn't valid, because someone still made the decision to allow their child to model for stock images that could end up anywhere.

Thanks Naomi. There's a new poster Sisters_of_Avalon on the Carson thread at CarsonKressley.com who wants to know when Queer Eye will air in Canada.. do you know?

Man, I'm late posting on this! I really liked Kyan's visit with the lady who helps with scoliosis. A chiropractor pointed this out to me that I have a curve in my spine too that wasn't treated. Never had a chance to ask my parents if they didn't know or couldn't afford the treatment. Yes, Kyan looked good in those shorts!

I hope Patrick finds a nice girl. He seemed like a good guy but does need to know that not all women are bad.
amberalilly
I was just wondering if anyones knows what the song and who its by that was playing when patrick was prparing the food by himself.
