It is reasonable for me to want to discuss the people who are important in my life (and I was thinking of someone other than Kyan) with people I respect and trust; it is reasonable to explain that I don't feel comfortable talking about anyone -- the Fab Five, other posters, friends -- in a public forum.
If I was so wrong to misinterpret what I thought was a budding friendship and mutual respect, then I'm sorry. But please stop complimenting me and saying nice things to me and then assuming the worst whenever I need to talk.
I did want to make peace with you Naomi because God knows I am so far from perfect myself. I called you Mona Lisa, because in the photo you posted of yourself, you DID look like Mona Lisa.
But I react badly when I see you up to your old tricks..
If you honestly wanted me to PM [private message] you, you would have PM"d me or posted me on Carson's site where that capability exists, not on Bravo which has no PM. You know I post there often.. you answered a post there of mine today with info.. thank you for the url..
But I strongly suspect that you wanted to make the invitation on this forum to impress the other posters here that you have information so sensitive, that they can't be privvy to it. You have your own Queer Eye fansite that is on your signiture banner at Carson's site. That is wonderful and it's a great site. But when you make such an unnecessary display on this site about your private information in response to a post concerning Kyan who you have talked about spending time with recently on a Greek vacation, I have to assume you are posturing for the benefit of others.
I hoped things had changed. I do appreciate many things about you such as your beauty, your creativity and your generosity in the fandom. But I get pissed off when I think you are trying to use me to get attention.
You could have contributed to this interesting conversation. You would not have had to say that your opinions were rooted in any special access to Kyan or whoever it is that you say you wanted to talk to me about. You could have PM"d me when you left your post on Carson's site in response to mine 2 hours ago.
You have dragged this conversation into a little drama about Naomi and I know it won't end with you so know whatever you post next will be the last word to this. I wish I were mature enough to not to post this, but I am so tired of your petulant injured act. I still have your only PM to me saved on my computer from Carson's when you accused me of trying to run you off the boards and abuse you when all I did was disagree with you.
I disagree with many people. I try not to be mean or personal about it but you irritate me when you are like this! When I suspect that you view every word I post back to you as a perverse victory of some sort.
You are an actress by profession, so I guess all you care about is that I spell your name correctly..
I am sincere in that I wish things could be different!

Oh, you're perfectly worthy, Tomasulo. Part of what I was doing was expressing the opinion that private business enterprises should exercise discretion over what they want said and done on their premises and in their forums. Bottom line is, if you're ever a producer and you're editing a video of a show, and there's a line on there about somebody having cottage cheese thighs, there really isn't any question you need to consider other than whether you want a show with your name on it to be making fun of somebody's body. You are not violating that person's free speech by cutting it. That person is your employee; that person is on the show to work for you; it's completely up to you what behavior you want to allow, and it really is a simple question of whether you want to be considerate of the feelings of the person with the thighs, or sacrifice that person's feelings for a laugh and a ratings boost.
Personally I'm glad they didn't edit out those comments...I laughed out loud at the cottage cheese line. And if that sounds mean and harsh, then you're really going to hate this next remark but I'm throwing it out there anyway. Perhaps if someone truly loves their body, and their delicate sensibilities are so fragile as to be "hurt" by someone else's humorous remark, they might consider nutrition and exercise even if it was just for health reasons rather than esthetics. I realize I can't assume the people we saw are any more lax in those areas than I am, but if I was upset every time I heard someone joke about big butts, I would probably consider doing something about it. But (NPI) I like the song by Sir Mix-A-Lot "Baby's Got Back"....awww com'on now....y'all know it...."I like big butts and I cannot lie....". In fact, let's put on that CD, have a couple of El Hemingways (I hope Jim doesn't mind if I mix my own!), and dance the night away!

What private business enterprises want is PROFIT. And the more exploitative and harsh reality shows are raking in the ratings and the bucks from advertisers, just as the Shock Jocks rake in the big bucks on the talk radio waves. The notion of any kind of "Public airwaves" is a thing of the distant past. There is no responsibility to society past a few unevenly applied guidelines used to suppress Aids Awareness ads more than depictions of say.. a scantily dressed woman being graphically raped in an entertainment show geared to appeal to the worst in us.
If you leave it up to business there will be NO images of overweight or unattractive women on tv. There are precious few as it is who are not there to be the butt of jokes or in servile or domestic roles.
There is so much talk about Fat people as being the new gays of reality tv. There are several new exploitative reality shows that have competitions of fat people to lose weight. Do they get their great ratings from people who are concerned about health and want to cheer them on in their ridiculous spandex outfits, or are the majority there to gawk at them like at the granddaddy of this genre.. the Jerry Springer Show. At least Springer was honest about what he was doing.
Is it like our government, that we get what we deserve.. or has the deck been so stacked against us, that we have lost our 'fight'?

Well, sure, I see your points, but I also see some merit to the adage of "when in Rome you do as the Romans do," as in, when you visit a naturist party, or host one, you learn a little about the protocols of naturism--mainly body acceptance--and respect that. So I had somehow expected that the FF would learn what they needed to know about our community ahead of time, and already be accustomed to it before doing the show. And yes, I do realize that's as naive as expecting the U.S. government (especially the present bunch) to tell the truth about anything.

I think perhaps in future naturists should try to have filming done on their own turf because when you stepped foot into that black and white room, you were on Scout's "set". They were the Romans and you guys were the Christians unfortunately..
I want to thank you again for opening my eyes a bit wider. Like tomasulo, I still cling to my fanboy fantasies, but I have learned from this episode and have enjoyed chatting with you and tomasulo and everyone Eversomuch!
And yes Naomi PM'd me and I replied, but I forget if it was before my last diatribe, so I may be in the doghouse for awhile.
But all the inmates in the asylum have to come back to this same recreation room, so I hope we mend fences.. what a mixed metaphor!

Well, I'm still clinging to the hope that they really don't know anything about the show ahead of time. That's always been the story - that they get no advance warnings or coaching and don't know what to expect until they arrive. Or are at least on the way. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm naive!

I hate, hate, hate reality shows - Queer Eye is the only exception. Well, I hate American ones. Ground Force and the British What Not To Wear are fine, but the rest....ick. I'm aghast at Bravo for their horrendous programming these days. Years and years ago they would show excellent movies. And they showed Twin Peaks in its entirety several times. With no commericals. Hard to imagine a commercial-free Bravo these days.

Remember when all we had to complain about was those gay orbitz travel ads?
Someday I'm going to have a nightmare where Kyan chases me around with scissors and a box of Crest White Strips.. only he wants to plaster them all over me like a mummy! Oh, wait.. it's all good now. I was saved by naturist Carson. Oh no! Carson took the scissors! No, wait.. it's good. He likes my hair, and I didn't need all those clothes anyway. Now Jai is serenading us.. All things Bright and Beautiful..
but seriously can you imagine it? If we all lost our minds and went on a reality show based on this two year old forum?? I guess we'd be competing to spend a day with our favorite Fab Fiver. tomasulo should write a story about it. It might go over better than heavy stuff. A spoof on us! Like the Trekkie movie..

I haven't been here in a LONG time(I see some people are back from when I left...is Jais_Girl still here?)but last night's episode made me come back here and post.
Last night's episode made me giggle, laugh, be a little upset, and just think about stuff.
I've noticed that other people have said a lot about Carson, Ted, Jai, Kyan, and Thom being a little....um, rude, or making "mean" comments. I'm sure that they are all really nice guys, and were just unsure what to say in that situation. They were probably unsure, or flusterted, about things...but on the other hand, I do agree, that they could have been a little more understanding at times. Like saying, "we're gonna be seeing her naked soon!" But there was that one time when Kyan was talking to Jim, he "knew where he was coming from".
I wish I could be more specific and word it better....I envy you, LilQueerEyeFan. (I'm 14 years old)
but I really don't want to ruffle any feathers, so I think I'll stop here...BFOJ
Hey BFOJ!
It's been a long time.. glad to see you posting on summer break.
Your delicate writing conveys your thoughtfulness between words. It is more effective than perfect phrasing in this case.
But don't hold back because you are afraid of ruffling feathers. The only feathers you could possibly ruffle with your post belong to the Dodos who resent being asked to think with their little birdbrains.
I hope you will post much more here on Bravo and also on Carson's forum.. both serious and also your fun creative posts. Superannaulted recently posted there about a 28 year old parrot who has learned the concept of zero. I am 28 for a little over a week. Do you think I should be Insulted?

PS. The last I heard about jais_girl she was doing some exciting internship concerning marine biology at the place she hoped to work someday.. can't remember more. We miss her!
hello notevayas! Happy late 28th birthday! I'm glad that you enjoyed my post! I'm going to try to post a little bit more now and then...I've realized how I've missed some of it! But I have been very busy with school among other things, so it's been nice to have a little break.
I think that it's great that JG is doing that! Hopefully she is doing well, and maybe some day she might come back for a little bit. Her internship sounds like a lot of fun, because I was once considering marine biology as one of my major classes....

This will unfortunately be a short post because there is much I need to do this weekend, but I wanted to say I enjoyed reading your comments and appreciate you taking the time to respond. You remind me a great deal of a good friend of mine who is no longer with us, so this verbal sparring brought back fond memories.
I didn't realize how seldom I posted on this site until you mentioned it. It's funny cause even though I've been with the show since the beginning, I've never really felt comfortable on this site, so you're right, there are other venues where I am more vocal and say more than post trivia about Jai's hair or Thom's Pier 1 experience. Not to mention I'm in the odd position right now of seeing my interest in the show wane while my caring for the well being of the five participants on it remains strong. Since this is more a forum to discuss the show, there's geniunely not much I can add. I do lurk occasionally because others' insights often inspire ideas for me.
Many, MANY years ago I knew a professor from UCLA who swore that if you worked hard enough, you could trace any business in the US back to GE, so your comment was not surprising to me at all, and in fact quite fascinating. I started to mention last night that Bravo's demise began about the same time NBC took it over, but I feared getting off subjuct, but, yes, the other shows they advertise during QE make me want to hide. They pander to the basest aspects of human behavior and I hate to see QE used as a vehicle for promoting them. The boys deserve more respect, especially considering their show really made Bravo a household word.
Wow, reading your interpretation of what I said makes me want to use it as an example of why one should NEVER write opinion papers late at night *L* I seriously might use my part of it in my AP classes to show how even the teacher has a "bad writing day". Let me see if I can clarify quickly: Hmm...I am white, fair, middle class, not sure about the liberal part-that depends on the issue we're discussing--but that's where your assessment of my character's correctness ends....argh, just realized that to defend myself would require more personal info than I want to share on such a public forum, especially when I know people here. If you want to discuss this further...can we do it privately?
Before I dash, I would correct you and say that the typical fangirl--and if you need prove, visit live journal--reaction to this episode is that Carson was "KEWL" to get naked and they all should've been so willing to do so.
And lastly, most of my friends are gay men, and I'm taking it you're one who has the privilege of living in a large city. Mine are not as fortunate and deal daily with the prejudice and narrow-mindedness of living in the Bible Belt. Two are currently worried about their teaching positions because as society gets more intolerant (again!) of the gay *ahem* "lifestyle" they are constantly defending themselves that there is indeed more to being gay than half naked Pride events and sex. Is it ridiculous? Yes. Do parents accept me teaching their kids with all my "alternative" beliefs more than these two, who are far more conservative than I'll ever be? You bet. While I think Carson running around naked is personally hilarious, I know that this does not advance the middle class's understanding that we all have more in common than differences. I'm rambling. Two quick statements that I'll happily explain later if you want then I'll go:
1. Me have a hangup about gay sex? *LMAO*** Ohmigawd, *wipes eyes* NAOMI, where are you?!!! She could definately prove this is a fallacy. Um, I should share my world with you, I guess.
2. Body language- Jai does not look comfortable in the art studio, not to mention has repeatedly discussed body image issues, etc, etc. He's also very young and impressionable with a strong need for approval and love; Scout plays on this and I think he's the one who ends up with regrets. Unfortunately...I've said too much already.
You have a keen mind and I would like to hear more from you sometime.

This was the best episode ever. I never laughed so hard, from seeing reactions of the guys when they saw the people at the party . Thom was hysterical as was Carson. I have always thought this was a great show. I think that Queer Eye depicts gay men in a positive light and stays away from the sterotype ideas that people have. I thought that showing how uncomfortable they were at certain points of the show, let straight people see that Gays are not just into sex and smut. This is a class A show and I hope it stays on for a long time. I just wish they would do a straight wife! Take Care and thanks for making me LOLROTF.

Wow! I just got done going thru all the posts so I won't add too much.
I'm not against nudity- if people are comfortable with that- fine. Obviously Carson was comfortable with it and I enjoyed the fun of the segment when they locked him outside and Ted putting his clothes in the freezer after Carson chasing him around inside! Again, these guys are like brothers to each other.
Being a Kyan fan I was hoping at least for a little bit of Kyan in the hot tub but oh well. Naomi brought up that Phil R. was the last time we saw Kyan shirtless, I think she's right.
I don't want to believe any of the guys was "acting" esp. Thom in their responses back at the loft. I guess I always thought that when they are watching on the screen that is the first time they are seeing it.
I did enjoy this episode alot and it brought alot of smiles to me and if this heat wave continues where I live I may become a nudist too!

Kyan: If you'd like to check out what clothing-optional outlets are near you, go to
http://www.cheef.com ; then, on the menu at left, click "Nudist Places" and follow the prompts from there, starting with "Select Country."
As I've said, though, if indeed they weren't acting, I would have preferred that they learn a little more about our community and get a little more used to it all, before viewing that video. But, when I reflect further, I do realize that's a little like expecting a president of the United States to tell the American public the truth about anything.

Note to Tomasulo on a specific point: "Censorship" only refers to a government using police power to control what private newspapers or broadcasters do. It has no application whatsoever to the judgment of editors or producers about what they want to allow in the forums they own. This is more than an abstract principle: Editors and producers do decide what they want said and done in their forums, which is what ownership of the forums is about.
Also, wisecracks about people's bodies are not in the category of opinions that have cause to be discussed openly. Point is, I strongly feel, there does not exist any principle, First Amendment or otherwise, for the producers to let the five guys say anything they want on the show. To me, Voltaire's comment is only relevant when you're talking about government coercion.
(By the way, I made the same point a decade ago when conservative radio host Bob Grant was fired from one of the radio networks for making racist comments on the air. It would have been censorship, and a violation of his First Amendment rightrs, if the government had arrested him.)
Censorship is also the oppression of viewpoints by any enterprise that recieves government funds. If Bravo receives ANY money from the government they CANNOT censor.

Haha! I wonder how much it will cost to pixelate (sp?) the whole show? Maybe just carrying around fig leaves would work better.
Quick question...I've been looking for things (pretty much anything a sweatshirt, socks, piece of gum) autographed by the Fab 5. Do you know of any good places, besides E-bay to search? E-bay has this auction going on now at www.NicoDermAuction.com for a yoga mat signed by the Fab 5, but it is a little out of my price range at $100. (but if you're a die-hard fan with cash to burn...go for it
If you know of any other good places, let me know. My mom is such a huge fan and I really want to get her something that's been signed by the Fab 5 for her b-day.

Yeah, ebay is the only place I've seen autographed stuff too. However, be careful! I recommend that you only deal with the charities. You can't really be sure the autograph is legit when a person is auctioning it off.

Hi Mandie. I don't know where to get autographed stuff (apart from eBay), but thanks for posting the link. I don't want to bid, but I love seeing how they signed it -- Ted wrote, "You could do yoga on this - me, I wouldn't know."

The people who take those photos own those photos & likely have them trademarked or copyrighted. If someone uses those photos to make a profit (ie, transferring them onto a pillowcase & selling them) without permission, they're in violation. That also goes for any use of the QE or Bravo logos. That's one of the reasons some photo sites put those watermarks on the pictures they display on the websites - so people won't use them without buying them.
