We saw the most recent tour in Clearwater, Florida at Ruth Eckerd Hall (The "I'm not Nicole Kidman Show") that just aired tonight, Oh My God it was so funny then, and its still funny seeing it a second time. I've seen so many comedy concerts in my life and that one tops 'em all for the amount of laughs, no kidding! I still laugh every time I see a potiental "Claymate" fan after hearing her description of them. One of the highlights...My girlfriend Jonquil and I got to meet Kathy and Matt after the show. They came outside after hearing a "couple of fans were waiting." They were so nice to us and took a few pictures, even after her recent botched eye surgery. Just goes to show what good people they really are and that she cares about her fans! Love you Kathy, can't wait for you to come back to Florida!

Hi Kathy - because I totally know you are checking out these posts every day - I just want to tell you that your new show is awesome and you are one incredibly funny lady. Just goes to show that any Hollywood that would relegate you to the D-list doesn't know talent when it sees it. To be honest, I've always liked your work, but since my husband and I cracked a couple of ribs laughing at your Bravo shows (we've watched them ALL now), we are your biggest fans. Rock on, girl!

Oh my Lord in heaven, there is no one funnier or ballsier than this woman! I had a rough rough day running into people who hate me -- I have agoraphobia/social phobia and am often an a--hole because of it and wish people would just get over it -- and, Ms. Griffin, you could not have made me happier. Taking on Oprah and Streisand!!!! My God, girl, you have balls of steel. I adore you. I've been a lifelong [expletive deleted] Hag, currently Gay-less in Portland, OR so if you could put the word out to your Gays for someone to contact me on here, well, it would mean the world. Please do more and more stuff about Oprah. She is waaay beyond an Alpha dog now. Can't wait to check out the first episode of the series once I've finished watching this brilliance!!!!

I came for the comedy and stayed for the humanity.
Usually the performers I admire are dead (Bill Hicks, Eva Cassidy, etc.). I usually only discover them after they have died. Kathy Griffin is unique, in that she is demonstrably alive and kicking. She possesses way more than her share of vitality and vitriol. I love her good-natured vitriol.
I first noticed her on those Comedy Central entre actes (interstices?) the network featured some years ago -- she was posed high on an urban rooftop showering down fashion-police abuse on the passing folks below. Her invective -- her attitude -- her sneer -- her sheer eggs won my admiration. Her brusque charm stood out from all the laid-back Comedy Central favored dudes that populated the channel at that time.
I even sometimes watched that ghastly Brooke Shields show (loved Kathy, not so much Brooke--hey, that's the Kathy-dish I'd pay serious bucks to hear) just to get an occasional flavor of Kathy's humor. I'm guessing Brooke didn't go for the true ensemble spirit. But Kathy seemed unsuppressible.
I've watched her t.v. specials and the occasional t.v. appearance and even a reality show that didn't much interest me, just because she was featured. Something about her has always stood out from the comedian-pack as authentic, despite (or maybe because) of the trivial-yet-enjoyable content of her diatribes.
Her humor always manages to walk (gracefully) several very thin lines -- especially the one between teasing and cruelty. And yet she manages to come across as a loving person, even while raking her nails across the (metaphorical) faces of America's revered celebrities. And she still gets invited to parties.
This is all background for why I'm posting about Kathy's new show "My Life on the D-List." I watched tonight because she makes me laugh knee-slapping out loud, which is rare, but I stayed through the show because additionally, she is a profoundly likeable human being. Never mind that the show included working it for swag, or strategies for photo and press ops -- her humanity, persistence and vulnerability were apparent and interesting. I like watching her with her husband -- her admiration for his abilities reminds me of mine for my spouse, and they are clearly each other's hard-won havens. (Plus, Kathy knows the deep secret that most IT geeks are hot.) And her parents are tres cool, demonstrating where Kathy got some of what makes her so good.
I was surprised by my enjoyment of the show -- usually when I hear "reality show," I want to run as fast as possible away from the ick-making noise. And I was afraid, as Kathy herself said tonight in another way, that seeing her behind the scenes would be disappointing or disillusioning. "My Life on the D-List" is not the usual "reality" show that Kathy herself enjoys -- though there's no way not for her to play to the camera, she uses it transparently and manages to be both funny and real. I have never heard a comedian so frank about the angst of bombing. And yet she trooped on.
I'll be watching this show. And thanks to Kathy & her peeps for allowing this kind of invasion, and to Bravo for booking it.

Best of Luck girl. You deserve it.
There's just one thing. I only hope they don't give Kathy
the celebrity overkill where she's everywhere you look
to the point you get sick of her. (Hilton/Cruise/Holmes)
If I hear another word about those three and others
I'm going to explode. Anyhoo, I hope this is not the case
with Kathy and we can enjoy her insanity for awhile without
getting bombarded.

Darn, I missed the first half of the show but LOVED what I did see...I look forward to the other eps.
I was also put off by all the begging for free stuff....kind of sickening when someone has lots of money and lives in a big beautiful house. Kathy Lee Gifford used to do that on her show.....whine whine whine about her wardrobe allowance or her tax situation. Enough already. Live from paycheck to paycheck and then just maybe I will shed a tear for you....
But other than that, I loved the show....her gig at the Bevery Hills thingie was especially hilarious....none of them knew what the heck she was talking about, doctor!

OK, QuoterGal, this is a message board for KATHY GRIFFIN! NOT A HARVARD LAUREATE!!
I have a word for YOU!....
Circumlocution.... look that one up, Baby! How about Pontificate? Guilty of that one, too.
For the rest of you "regular" people, vitriol means scathing or abusive; entre actes is any entertainment performed during a break (ie: half time), invective is again her talking about an abusive expression, (thus my charge of circumlocution, which means using a whole bunch of big words to express something that can be said in a few words; ie: Kathy's humor is awesome!)
Ghastly Brooke,... raking her nails across the metaphorical..............BLAH BLAH BLAH..............
I think you mean she was FUNNY!!!!

"kathywannabe." Perfect. Seriously. " 'Nuf said."
Naturally I'm touched you consider my post somehow "Harvard Laureate" in substance or style, but it's not particularly. You profoundly underestimate "regular" people, and yet hold yourself above them by defining fairly simple words for these (allegedly) "regular" people. Whatever that means...
What's peculiar is that both the post's length and vocabulary (though you feel you must demonstrate that you understand it) somehow offend you. Huh. Life must be very hard for you if you spend this much juice being upset by a post that you demonstrably understand, yet somehow violates your unusual need for brevity and an easier vocabularly -- on a public fan board.
Your points might have been well taken if the purpose of the thread about Kathy was to be as brief as possible, and to conform to some kind of "You rock, go girl, you're so awesome and funny" short and rubber-stamp post.
This being a thread about Kathy Griffin and her multi-faceted talents, there was simply no earthly reason why I should have limited myself to something short, less nuanced and therefore somehow more normal, in your eyes, other than your need to have it so. It pains me deeply to have to say it, but your needs simply did not come into consideration when I wrote the post, and they still don't. It's hard cheese, Maisie, but there it is.
Circumlocution only applies if I am evasive, or indirect or "unnecessarily" wordy. I said exactly what I meant to say, and neither the exactness of my expression or the necessity of its length can really be determined by you. I don't just think she's "funny" -- I think all of the things I said, and that would be why I said them.
I assure you that if & when Kathy herself or reads posts about herself, she does not joyously shout, "Yaayy!! Another wicked short and exactly-the-same comment about me. Apparently another person thinks I rock. Woo-hoo."
Performers, generally speaking, like to read about themselves in detail, and when being complimented, don't tend to prefer either brevity or conformity. They like to hear about why and how and what works, and they like their network sponsors to hear it, too.
Not to pontificate, but you might consider unclenching just a bit and loosening up the judgment factor just a tad. There are boards 'o plenty on the net where you can fight about the mot juste and how it's all s'posed to be according to your world view, but requiring brief and short-worded compliments on a fan thread seems a) kinda inappropriate and
kinda lame.
In fact, you seem to lack tolerance and a sense of humor. Which is, in itself, kinda funny.

on leno, kathy was talking about the oprah hermes controversy (oprah went to the store, they were closed. they wouldn't open it for her, she assumed it was because she is black). so kathy was talking about how oprah's friend gayle went on all the news shows saying that oprah said its the most humiliating thing thats ever happened to her. but kathy pointed out, wasn't she molested by her uncle when she was 10?
the whole studio just gasped! it was one of those "i can't believe she just got away with that" moments!

Dear Kathy Fans --
On behalf of the Griffin family, thanks so much for your support. We hope you continue to enjoy the show over the next six weeks and keep tuning in to follow the wacky twists and turns of Kathy's everyday life. As one of Kathy's older brothers from Chicago, let me just say that Kathy has always been one of those people who things somehow just "happen" to. So it's become a perfect evolution for her over the years to take those out-of-the-ordinary encounters and use her comic storytelling ability to entertain the rest of us.
Here's a quick story (or at least I'll try to make it quick) going back a number of years that you won't hear in her current act -- but it exemplifies my point. Kathy and an old boyfriend went to downtown LA one day to watch a trial of a serial killer - a guy named Richard Ramirez who was known as the Night Stalker. The trial had been going on for weeks and weeks and she just wanted to sit in and watch. During one of the breaks, she was in the washroom and saw a female juror in there. Kathy stopped the woman to ask an innocent question about something that was said on the witness stand. (I think Kathy wanted to make sure she heard the statement correctly and was asking for a clarification.) The juror looked at Kathy and didn't respond, and Kathy realized that maybe she shouldn't have spoken to the juror. A few minutes later the trial resumes and she's back in her seat and sees that there's all kinds of commotion going on around the judge. After a minute, the lawyers and the judge all turn and look at Kathy who's just sitting in the back. The sergent at arms walks over and motions for her to stand and approach the bench. (Scared ****less would probably describe her emotions at this point.) The judge proceeds to accuse her of tampering with the jury and possibly causing a mistrial. On top of that, she now has Richard Ramirez sitting only a few feet away glaring at her with his Manson-like eyes -- and she's thinking that if he ever gets out, she's now moved to the top of his to-do list. Fortunately, after many tense minutes of legal maneuvering and debate, they decided to go on with the trial -- but not before the judge had one more go at Kathy to yell at her.
So, you can see what I mean. First, how many people would want to go watch the trial of a serial killer just out of curiosity? And then, how many would somehow manage to inadvertently insert themselves into the middle of the trial? But like I said, things just happen to her -- and then she's able to put her comic spin on it afterwards and make us laugh at the kind of crazy situations that are almost routine for her.
By the way, if you haven't had a chance to see her live act yet, try to make it a point to find a location where she might be playing near you. Of course I'm biased, but as good as her taped shows are on TV, she's even better in person. You'll never see a standup comic who can maintain that same level of energy for as long as she does. (Her shows typically run an hour and a half -- sometimes two hours.) Check out her website to keep up with her current bookings and other info. It's simple to remember: kathygriffin.net. You can sign up and they'll automatically send you some updates on appearances, etc.
Sorry for this long-winded post, but I want to say thanks again for your support. She really does care about the fans who come out to her shows and watch her on TV. And the "D List" show is a very accurate portrayal of the way she is in person. (I hope that the upcoming episodes show enough of our parents because they're really funny, too.)
Thanks,
John

Saw Kathy on Jay Leno last week. She was wonderful in pointing out the Oprah "Worst thing that ever happened to me!" situation.... Big deal! The woman was turned away from a store that was already closed. Kathy was right in pointing out that Ms. O had a horrible childhood and might regard that as one of the worst things in her life. I thought Leno was a jerk in not supporting Kathy with the jokes. He was purposely holding back his laughter. what's up his ass? Kathy you are great! The new show is great! Love ya!

Kathy is funny, I've been following her since her Suddenly Susan days. I was watching her show tonight, and I just wanted to comment on one thing that happened. In one scene, Kathy is saying how great it is to get free stuff. Then, in another scene in the same episode, she's giving some of the free crap away to her parents because she doesn't want it. Anyone else disappointed in this self-centered behavior that's not typical of Kathy?

Can I respond to that? Can I also tell you that your screen name makes me giggle every time I say it?(in a slightly perverse way...)
Anyway, she talked about "regifting". And a lot of those things were not truly worth holding onto (At least I wouldn't).
It was also kinda funny to hear the father tell the mother she "needed some" of the - I think, not sure- 'Brilliance" book she was offering.
It was almost a week since I saw it, so I'm not sure... but I know it was funny! I really don't believe there was anything self centered about it. Do other families do those things? (Other than mine... and Kathy's?)

I don't know, I was always a big fan of KG, even when she worked bluer than she does now, talking about sagebrush blowing over her v*****, but recently, seeing her in DC, it seems like popular culture keeps her act going and going, as she did two hours and I left, as she was obviously not going to stop as long as there was one celebrity unskewered.

If you listen to the Kathy's Podcast (which you can do on any MP3 player or computer) she talks about her parents background, which is very similar to mine, so I understand the re-gifting and the "free stuff." Plus what a lot of you don't know (hey isn't that a "Springer line? LOL) most Hollywood Celebs get Free stuff ALL THE TIME, thats why they go to the parties, the awards and half the shows they show up on..."the gift bags." Kathy is the only one with courage to admit it. Some of those bags are loaded with $10k worth of "stuff" and trust me, they re-gift it, especially if they have been on the air in a year or two! The industry has always been powered on free things, tickets, meals, Comp is Comp. But seriously folks, if someone hands YOU something for free you're really not going to take it, and not going to make a big deal about it? Come on.

I admit it - I go way back, but I'm a comedy addict - can't get enough, and you want to know how far back? When I lived in LA and Kathy came up with the bit about Earthquakes. "They tell you to stand in door ways because its the safest place in your house, but really its to make it easier to find your dead body. How many times have you seen on the news after a Quake..Door way - rubble - door way - rubble? Never! They just dig under the rubble and look for a door ways to find your dead butt!"
So funny, but that made so much sense, like so many of her bits!

You know, it is funny, because I had read your post and then wrote you that I liked what you said BEFORE I had read the rest of the exchange between you and the poster who needs to chill. Honestly! Then, when I read the exchange, I was doubly glad that I had responded positively to you. I find it refreshing when people can express themselves as individuals and not just try to "fit in" with the common parlance, and sound like everyone else.
Cheers
Worker Bee- p.s. I just watched tonights 2nd show- very good but not as funny as the 1 st, in my view- but still my current favorite show.

I am a comedy writer. I would like to contact Kathy Griffin to submit some jokes. I noticed that she has a problem with older audiences. I would like to submit a 5-minute routine that copies her style, but changes the material for an older crowd.
Does anyone know how to contact her?
