I enjoyed tonight's show. It had a lot of funny bits and I was much impressed with Mr. Kressley who seemed to be in his element with the horses. Poor Kyan never did get much better at juggling but he did his best. And Ted, Ted, Ted...he'll cook ANYTHING that's dead!lol

I've gone to The Big Apple Circus too. I liked it's one-ring atmosphere much better than the 3-ring circuses. More intimate.
I'll admit that I was on the phone while the episode was on so I missed most of it, but it looked like a fun episode. I did see the guys performing at the end and the looks on their faces was just joyous! How many people can say that they actually performed in a circus?
Michael looked great with his new look and really seemed to appreciate everything. Seemed like a really cool guy.
Now, I need to sit & watch the episode uninterupted.

I was pleasantly surprised! This SG came across as very sincere, surprised, and appreciative.
Kyan cleaned up the hair. Carson gave him comfortable and fun clothing. Thom made his trailer look like a home.
Jai was just there for product placement and Ted tried to hard to convince us to eat what looked like roadkill. I guess he is too highbrow to imagine port served with a nice meal, but it CAN happen Ted... I enjoy port occasionally and it is reasonably priced.

Ted had the best line of the show when he was trying on his harness (for his act with the Mongolian angels)
He said, "It lifts and separates."
(That was the catchphrase of a brassiere commercial when I was a kid.. that I remember torturing my older sisters with.) Ted, of course, was referring to the crotch area where the harness did accentuate his endowments.
Carson's play on the term Big Top came in a close second. The way he handled those horses was amazing. And it was amazing that one of the Angels was actually suspended by Ted for a bit. Whatta guy!
I could nitpick about details, but I am so relieved that the show was not a fake shark jumping gimmick, but about a real guy with a real job.
I have never been to the circus and so this was a treat. I have been to carnivals where there have been acts, but it is not the same. The Big Apple has a good reputation for taking care of animals as far as I have heard. But the highwire acts would not be enjoyable for me.

Me too! I've had a little crush on Ted for a while so I was jealous that those girls got so up close and personal with him. This show was absolutely adorable! It was so much fun and unique from the other episodes. Michael was a real sweetheart. I loved that the Fab 5 actually participated in the circus! Thom's role as a clown was especially fitting. If he weren't already a world class interior designer, he would make an excellent clown. I've always loved his sense of humor. And I have to say that Kyan looked hotter than usual with that eyeshadow on! He was cute with his juggling. Jai was great with the dancing and I loved the newsboy cap he wore. It was interesting not seeing the Fab 5 in their loft at the end but seeing them in the circus was the best! Thom made Michael's trailer beautiful! I loved hearing how much Michael loved his job, he truly has a passion for it.

I'll admit, the word "circus" made me nervous at first....I had visions of Vargas or Barnum and Bailey and their atrocious history of animal abuse. So before this ep aired, I checked the Big Apple Circus website. I was relieved to find out that there was no mention of wild animal acts, only the horse act was mentioned, and the site was adamant about explaining that the horses receive excellent health care and the best living conditions possible under the circumstances. I was satisfied and, believe me, I'm a tough cookie on animal issues. Having said that, on to more pleasant stuff......I think the Fab 5 had a blast with Michael and the circus. They looked like they really enjoyed getting into the act...literally! At the risk of sounding lke a dud, I should mention that I'm clown-a-phobic so seeing Thom dressed as a clown gave me a lot of mixed emotions. (Geez, Tomasulo.....a crazed defender of animals AND a clown hater?!?! Have you talked to your therapist lately?) Anyhoo, Thom did a great job and still managed to look hot behind the scary clown make-up. (Um...Tomasulo....I think it was supposed to be funny make-up...not scary!) I thought Kyan did super as a juggler. Jai and Carson were both in their element and their skills were apparent. But, Ted,.......WOW! Who knew?!?! (Did y'all see the expression on Thom's face...scary clown make-up aside... when he was watching Ted and one of the hot Mongolian women when they were swinging on the trapeze together? Oh, yeah, that was sexy.....I knew what you were thinkin', Pumpkin!) I'll pass on the ostrich, Ted, but mind if Thom and I borrow that harness and trapeze equipment?

I liked this one too, and am glad they aren't just doing tear-jerkers now. Not that there's anything wrong with tear-jerkers, I just become suspicious of Bravo's motives after too many of them. The slobby-straight-guy ones are still my favorites, and this was fun since it was both slobby-straight-guy and something very different.
The circus always makes me a little apprehensive, but it still looked like fun! Especially the horses. I was a little surprised at Ted. He seems the least likely to do something that daring! And nice challenge for Thom, redoing a trailer. My best friend lived in one about that size for several years. She really could have used his help.

Oh, me too!!! I really really REALLY don't like clowns. Even Thom was creeping me out a little. I don't like the circus at all as a rule (perhaps I was kidnapped by circus people in a former life??) but this was a nice circus. I noticed how healthy and well-cared-for those horses looked.
I'm just glad they didn't join Cirque du Soleil. I don't know if I could have watched that - it gives me nightmares.
I just tried to see how you spell Cirque du Soleil by looking at Bravo's link thing, and accidentally pulled up their website.....AAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Poor Thom....got stuck with the clown gig. Probably all he wanted to do was give us a laugh but it appears that I wasn't the only one who wanted to run away in terror. I once locked myself in a bathroom for half an hour or so because I was terrified of my older brother's friend's dad dressing up as a clown. It wasn't so much the scary makeup, though, as it was the squeaking of the nose - I've had problems with loud or sudden noises ever since I was a premature baby on a respirator that beeped loudy whenever I didn't take a breath for a certain amount of time.
All in all, this show is right up there with Richard M. and Andrew in my favorite episodes. It was so funny, and I felt the guys haven't had their normal chemistry in the past episodes but this one brought them all back together.

Well, I'm here to say I love clowns (except for the one in IT!) and I completely enjoyed Thom in his role. The minute I saw his big red nose I said 'perfect type casting.'
As for the trailer, Thom PLEEZ come with or without your clown costume/makeup and do my hovel over. Pleez, pleez, pleez. Mine is as jumbled and ugly as Mike's was.
I felt bad for Jai--he almost disappeared in this episode. Surely he could have done a tightrope walk or an acrobatic thing, he has plenty of talent and nerve.
Loved Carson and the horses. He's now had two chances to share his passion with horses--the Texas ranch episode and this one.
Notey I also cracked up at Ted's comment about the harness thing. And then he finished the comment with something like 'I could wear this regularly.' HA!
I also loved that Kyan tried so hard. Didn't mind being filmed as he practiced and missed. Juggling is hard work, I understand. (The only thing I ever tried to juggle was a baby a husband a job and a home).
Agree with all that Mike had great passion for his work and a sincere willingness to share it. Loved how he loved his family as well.
Kyan did great hair, Carson did great clothes, Ted's BBQ was --interesting. Actually, I understand that ostrich is very delicious and healthy. And at least Mike didn't have to kill it. Jai, fight for your space! Get back into the show, I miss your compassion and sensitivity.
Cheers,

The Big Apple Circus Show was GREAT!!! The fab 5 did a stunning job on Mr. Tentmaster. As a HUGE fan (and looooong ago former employee) of the circus, it was just too much fun to see the tent and the trailers and the goings on again. Made me trailer sick--Also wonderful to see Mike's charming personality reflected in his handsome new look!!
BTW, People who looked up the circus website and were impressed with their treatment of animals were absolutely correct. In my next life, I'd happily come back as a horse on that show. (At least when you say "Let them graze." about the horses, it's good news.)
Grandma is clearly just as hilarious as ever and Mr. Paul as dashing!!! Guess I'll just have to save my pennies for a trip east to see the show again!!

Did anybody or was it just me notice Carson hitting Kyan on the butt with the whip when they were leaving the center ring? Woo-hoo! And did I hear this right when the guys were getting their make-up on did someone say and was it to Kyan "You look like a slut?" And blowing up with the helium some "ahem" balloon?!
This episode was so great-I enjoyed it so much. Carson with the horses-I love seeing Carson with horses-his big love! Kyan trying so hard with the juggling-like Kcee said he did better than I would of done it! And man Ted on the Trapeze-he is much braver than me!
I like the tear-jerkers too but I like how they are mixing it up here with these episodes!
This episode just shows again to me how much I love the Fab 5! Such Crazee Boys!

I thought this was an excellent episode....actually the thrid season is becoming one of the best seasons....I notice that not only to they include their episode guest they also include family etc. this was very funny...each guy did a skit that was close to their personality....Carson a given horses,excellent...Jai,dancing what else.... Ted,was unusual really out of his area, but also very gutsy...Kyan well here was something unusual, but he had fun....Now we come to Thom....next to Carson this was a natural....I just wish they could of expanded more...Thom was absolutely funny a human fountain...this was Thom outside his designing skills...and yet something apart of him....QE now has a designing clown....

I loved this episode. It was so funny and the straight guy was cool. I did not get to see the episode when it first aired because I was at a hotel in Las Vegas without Bravo (those hotels really need to add Bravo to their channels...), but I watched the repeat tonight, and it was awesome. Um. Here is what I think of what the guys did:
Ted: Ostrich sounds kind of weird, but it is good that he had something a little different as far as meat. I mean, I do not know that many people who eat ostrich. I'm sure it is good (well, for me), as it is only meat, just like chicken and beef. I thought it was a good idea to take Michael to the chocolate place. I want to go there! About his act with the Mongolian Angels... it was awesome. I also liked the comments he made about the harness thing and the whole thing was just entertaining.
Kyan: Cutting the hair was an excellent idea. It made him look more approachable, in my opinion. About his act... he did very well. I do not think I could juggle, and it is good he could do it, knowing that he had not had experience with it. I think I saw the guy who was performing with him get a worried look on his face before Kyan did his last juggling. I could be wrong, though. I also thought it was great when he was in there with Jai when he was practicing the dance and Kyan was dancing too.
Thom: The trailer did look more like a nice boat than a trailer. It was an awesome trailer after Thom redecorated it. About his act... it was cool. I could just imagine him, if he was in a circus, being a clown. I have never really had a fear of clowns, so I was not disappointed that he was dressing up as such a scary thing, to some people. That "Grandma" person performing with him was great. Also, I thought his dance on the truck was freaking awesome!
Carson: He chose nice choices for the clothes. The really seemed like they would fit Michael's style. About his act... it was perfect for him (of course!) and he did a great job. It was amazing to me how he remembered their names. Maybe it is because I am extremely forgetful. And, I liked Carson's outfit in this episode.
Jai: Getting Michael a quality camera was a great idea. I liked when they went and took photos. I take a lot of photos when I am on vacation and need to edit them and crop them, because they are so big, and the subject is not shown well. I'll try telling my mother, when she is taking pictures of me, to not have me centered, because she does. About his act: I loved it! It was great that it was something that fit in the area of what he does anyways.
I thought that, when Michael's family came to his trailer, it was so cool when his niece (I think) got excited because of the chocolate bear and chocolate bar. They seemed like a cool family. It is kind of sad how he only sees them once a year (I think, they said that). But, to me, it would be hard to do something like that, even if I wanted to (I mean, a job where you have to be away from family a lot). But, that is just me.
Sorry if my little thoughts on this episode were stupid... it is just that, even though I am not really on vacation anymore (except for school), my brain is still there...

LilQueerEyeFan,
Your post brought up an aspect that really impressed me, but that I don't think anyone else has mentioned... the little girl who was given the chocolate bear; she was adorable!
She didn't say a word, but she was so pretty and had such expressive eyes that I could almost hear her speaking french. What a doll! And how unspoiled to be so excited over a chocolate, though she seemed almost as happy before, just to be calling round.

Perhaps she had just been to the Circus show. She seemed the perfect age for it.

I've no idea why I didn't mention this before....it's my favorite Thomism of this episode. At the beginning, when Thom is driving the Denali to the circus and the FF are saying that Michael's job is to pitch the tent, Thom said, "I'm pitching a tent right now". No one makes sexy little double entendres quite like Thom!....well, maybe Carson.

Me? A clown?!? No, I was not a clown--and I WOULD admit it if I were!! Honest! The clowns were great people though I will admit there is a definite creep factor realted to clowns--and they know it. Anybody in a mask (even if it's only make up) can be scary. These guys were great fun! The clown in the episode Barry (Grandma) Lubin once gave me a very pithy piece of information. He told me that children increase exponentially. That 2 is way more than just twice as much work as one. He was right but I went on to have 3 anyway. My job was thoroughly death-defying. I was in the box office! The PUBLIC!!! ARRRGGGGHHHH!!!! I worked with a girl who actually played little mind games with the ticketbuyers. She'd run together, "Here-are-your-tickets-the-tent-is-on-fire-you-enter-to-the-left." No one ever heard her.

But as an aside, I have to agree with everyone about the clown bit......I have never been a circus fan....and especially clowns for some reason! They used to scare the daylights out of me as a child......
When Thom came out in that makeup at first I winced......but as it was Thom, I smiled, if only a little scared......but when I closed my eyes and imagined myself up there with him on that trapeze..that kind of eased the uneasiness......"Oh I'm sorry, what's that you said Judy? Okay, okay, the three of us on the trapeze.....are you happy now?"

I can totally believe nobody ever heard your coworker, as I work with the public myself and it's amazing the things they don't hear. And the things they DO hear that weren't anything close to what you actually said.
There's probably a lot to be delved into regarding the fear of clowns. My husband's best friend actually went to clown school in Florida after graduating from high school, but I don't think he ever joined the circus.

I couldn't agree more about the public. I swear people ONLY hear what they want to hear.

This is always a huge peeve of mine, and lately it's driving me right over the edge. I work with college students (not the best listeners, no matter what age they are) and I've recently had no fewer than three students tell OTHER people on campus that I'd told them things that I didn't tell them at all. I didn't even tell them anything close to what they claimed, and in one case what I told them was the complete OPPOSITE of what they claimed. The other two were just so bizarre that I have no idea where they came up with what they said. And it was all about completely different things.
We've long noticed in this office that people only hear what they want to hear, and if they don't like what you tell them they'll keep asking you the same thing, apparently thinking if they ask it over and over and over, they'll finally get a different answer. Like VERY irritating children.

So true, raindog....btw, I love your subject line! On a lighter note, a long time ago I was a telephone operator working the swing shift. Late at night, to keep ourselves entertained, sometimes instead of "operator", we would answer a wide variety of sound-alikes, e.g., alligator, terminator, fornicator, masturbator.....well, you get the idea. Callers rarely noticed that we had snuck in another word....they just assumed we had said "operator". (Okay....you know something?!?....don't be so judgemental...people get a little punchy when they work the swing shift!!)

I really would of wanted to help put on THOM's clown makeup
And Ted telling Kyan he looks like a slut.
What was it that THOM said to Ted in the Chocolate Heaven store??? That was so funny. That THOM is a chocolate addict.
Did you catch a little of his eyes closed??? And when he laid down on the bed.
When he was standing watching Ted with that girl in the black shirt, he put his arm around her, I wish that was me.
Oh and when THOM, Kyan and Jai were peeking out from a trailer? That right eyebrow lift that he does...
Your thoughts to add

Although I was freaked out by the clown make-up, I loved how thick, wavy, and full Thom's hair looked after it was sprayed silver/grey. Oh my!.....no wonder every new thread seems to have a good portion of its posts devoted to the tantalizing subject of Thom's hair!

What did you think of THOM shaking his dance groove on the back of the pick-up? Isn't he just the silliest crazy nut or what???

I wonder if he would be afraid to be that high in a swing?

How did Ted get the swinging scene, and the rest their parts in the circus act, I wonder???

Exactly, The same thing happens here. It doesn't matter who they are or how old there are. If you don't remember, I work in a public library. Also when they complain about you they convenantly leave out the parts that made them a pain in the ass to begin with.

Even though, the circu;ation staff would always answer the phones "Chicago Heights Library, may I help you", occassionally, when they got to me they would have NO CLUE who they are calling. I always answer the phone "Hello, Reference". You really wonder what these people are doing. Sometimes "information" GIVES them the wrong number.

the only thing I liked about this one was carson's hair I like it in itsnaturally curly state. haveing then perform in the curies was so stupid leave that to the performs.
Lately it’s been equally about the story as the SG and the cast is no lounger freaked out by the way SG live I miss the good old days
I miss the 'good old days' as well when they had fun shaking up the straight guy, before they started showering him with goods and services..
Now, in this episode, the guys did diss the messy smelly trailer, but I know what you mean about some of the uplifting shows being too easy on the SG. I mean, unlike the show with Ray where it worked as an entertaining show because of the wedding and high drama, as well as a good deed, I think it would have been better to just write sweet Gary a check, and make good tv with another SG. And I think with that Boomer guy involved, Gary's family was probably being championed anyway.
I know it sounds insensitive, but there are thousands of deserving families that desperately need help who do not have a football star boosting them. The Fab 5 has entertainment capital to spare, but it won't have if the show changes too much from its winning formula to being primarily a tear jerker.
I see the Michael show as a good balance betweeen ordinary scruffy but decent man and an interesting Circus story without being manipulative in the tear department. I don't mind it if the SG's are paragons or not. For example, John Sica was an alcohol abuser, but his episode was interesting and he made good teevee. I found Mr. Pocketbook designer annoying and insincere, but the wife's fashion show, and Thom's um, curious livingroom choices, as well as the fun cultural cooking angle, made the show good teevee.
Some of the more staid family men like ghostbeard and the toupee guy also made great tv, though they hardly needed the financial help. I think it was the family interaction with the Fab 5 as well as the showcases for the Fab 5's work and fun events that made those shows.
I suspect that too many people are trying to justify their salaries by sitting around a table and trying to tinker with and put their name on this success. I say just keep finding us these great (mostly) straight guys and let the Fab 5 do their thing!

I think it was fun for the Fab 5 to be in the circus. It was sort of an 'in your face' to everyone who called them 'gay minstrels' when the show first aired. And, these guys are great performers and there is nothing dodgy about that! Carson the equestrian performed. Jai the stage actor performed. Thom the designer had to do presentations in his business. Ted the gourmet must have done demonstrations and booksignings for his esquire books. Kyan who worked in a posh salon had to be 'on' for clients. And now with 3 years of QEFTSG, these guys are pros.
But I can sincerely agree with you on Carsons wavy hair. Imagine spending an hour running your hand through those curls! And here I swore I would never do a THUD post..
bad notevayas..

Thom really worked a miracle with that trailer. It looked twice the size when he was through with it, though the livingroom chairs were too feminine.
I wish he had kept the lucky elephants also.
This may sound funny coming from me, but I spent several longish stays in hospital as a kid with out of control asthma, and I did not like clowns either except the obviously female ones who were small and wore their hair long or in pigtails and had paper flowers to give us. I remember cherishing a (tall as me) tissue paper flower on a stick for months. I never saw anything like it until my sister gave me one that had decorated her prom, so I guess they are common.

Post subject: Pee-uwww!
-Sorry I'm a bit late here with the comments, but I missed this one Tues. and had to watch the rerun yesterday. I liked the episode. The SG was likeable and had a sense of humor (you'd better if you work with clowns, right?), they made over a trailer and our boys got to be part of the reveal to mix it up a bit. The only thing I didn't like was the splitting of the screens ala Brady Bunch.
Kyan's outfit looked like something he'd worn in another recent episode, except for the hat, which I personally didn't care for on him. He got my imagination going when he played with the rubber. I liked Ky's shave and haircut in his mid-show Hip Tip, and I liked his end-of-show Hip Tip even better!
Big agree with everyone here - I LOVED CARSON'S HAIR! Lol when he closed his eyes while Ted had him identify the SG's soiled garments by smell. The SG really needed the new hats, and the new clothes really fit his lifestyle.
I found the Chocolate Factory segment interesting. I for one relate to the SG's sense of adventure when eating. (Roadkill, Note? I've tried ostrich myself and it's not bad, if a bit dry, but it is expensive.) Interesting how they made the ostrich into an Indian dish, considering that it's not commonly served in that country, but it gave the ostrich some kick. I couldn't believe Ted wasn't more adept at putting on a harness. Perhaps someone like Note could've helped him into it. Ted's Hip Tip w/ Jai was funny:
"You know when you eat something spicy and your mouth is on fire? Don't reach for a glass of water, it really doesn't help. Instead, take a quick bite of something starchy like bread or rice. It'll extinguish even the most irritating flames. "
I wasn't as impressed with Thom's circus act. As a kid, I often spit water up into the air like a fountain. Big deal.
Next week, we see our little Thommy crying again. Oh brother.
