Did anyone else hear "Moose Lodge" and immediately think of the Red Green Show?

I kept thinking of The Honeymooners for some reason. I have no idea why.

It speaks volumes that the Moose and the Fab 5 got along so well in spite of seeming at first to be from such different worlds. I guess the common bond of wanting to make things better overcame those differences. It was obvious they enjoyed the experience and respected each other.

Highlight for me: Thom spilling his beer and then later could be seen in the background down on the floor by the bar stools cleaning up the mess. Good grief, Thom, make me just a little more crazy about you!!! You had me at "hello"!

I haven't laughed so much since the James Boyd (nudist) episode.....which I guess says something about the level of my humor. I called the Moose Chapter 318 and spoke with Tony Silvestri about getting a calendar. He was super nice and gave me the information about where to mail my check and promised to send a calendar. Mooseheart is a very worthwhile charity and the Moose members (no pun intended) were delightful.

Bizarrely, it reminded me of going to church. Because I grew up in a very Weird Religion and at one time we had church services in a Moose Lodge. It wasn't nearly that much fun, though!

I thought that was so impressive, because it's not at all what you'd expect from a Moose Lodge - at least it's not what I'd expect. Those guys all seemed so openminded and friendly, and I was thoroughly impressed. And what a great thing they were working for, too - good show all around.

I didn't even notice that until I saw it again last night -a guy who cleans up after himself!

Oooh, a calendar! I'd wondered how to get them, and was a little surprised there was nothing at the end of the show, but maybe they feared getting overwhelmed.

I found this one hilarious too, and enjoyed it way more than the wedding ones.

Having the Moose calendar will kind of....sort of.....maybe....help with my depression over not having a QE calendar this year! Wait....I'm getting a little choked up....I'm still not over it.....sniff......snuffle.....

raindog: Thank you for the birthday shout out over on the General Comments thread. It was pretty fun.....could have been better. Let's see!.....Thom.....vodka......a weekend in a cozy cabin.....yeah, I have a few ideas how it could have been improved !

Apparently there's been quite the brouhaha over the calendar - largely centering around the Aurora Beacon News, which is a suburban Chicago paper that ran the group photo from the calendar on the front page. Ted emailed the editor about it:

There's something that I'm a smidge baffled by on the Moose calendar. (I haven't received my copy yet so I'm just stating this from memory.) Shouldn't the guy with the baseball equipment have been Mr. October instead of Mr. February? And maybe the guy with the roses should have been Mr. February? Just a thought....actually any way you shuffle them, they looked like good sports to me.

Ted's reply was eloquent and brilliant! Wow, he's not just a pretty face!!! Snaps to Ted for his great response!

Go Ted! So, what exactly was the problem with the calendars? People thought it was inappropriate for a children's charity? Seems to be that any charitable effort should be conratulated, not condemned.

My Ted love increases everyday.

Actually, Mooseheart had been involved in a number of cases of sexual abuse in the past. I think it's a huge overreaction by well-intentioned people, and Ted's reply was just perfect. I found quite a few articles from this paper about the reaction at:

I got an e-mail from Ted about that episode. I forwarded him the article that Andre Salle wrote in a Chicago newspaper about the so-called "controversy" that blew up over the making of that calendar.

He thanked me for forwarding the article to him and I told him I was HAPPY to do it...

So that's how he found out about it? Good work! I thought it was strange that this was all in a Chicago paper, instead of New York. I figured he was just keeping up with what was going on in Chicago.

I was impressed as well with the incredible security of the Moose men. They were having a ball and were just as much themselves as were the Fab 5. It was one of the best episodes.
DianeB
Can anyone tell me how to get a copy of the Moose Lodge calender?
Thanks,
Diane

Right after this episode aired, I ordered the calendar by calling the Huntington NY chapter of the Moose lodge and mailing a check as instructed. I haven't yet received the calendar although my check was cashed. I was disappointed but it was tax deductible, so I figured no big deal. Anyway, this past Saturday while I was out, my daughter received a call from Steve Gabriel, the governor of that Moose lodge. You might remember him as Mr. January. (Who could forget any of those guys?!?! What good sports they were!) He said they are still waiting for the calendars and because the manufacturer is doing the job gratis, they're not in any position to complain about how long it's taking. He said even members of his lodge hadn't received their calendars yet. He also said that the calendar is actually for 2007 and there were a few changes although he didn't elaborate on what the changes were. He left his home telephone number for her to give to me in case I had any questions. My daughter said he was super nice and sounded just like he did on t.v. I just thought I'd pass this along in case you're waiting for your calendar and also I wanted to let you know how sweet he had been to my daughter on the phone. Apparently, those "Moosers" are just as kind and adorable as they seemed on their episode.

I hope the manufacturer does not take forever....thou they are doing this job gratis they may feel they can take as long as they want. I also put in a order,it is going for such a great cause. Now a days the dollars are getting harder and harder to find....
DianeB
I also got a call from Steve Gabriel. And he was really helpful. And your right... he is a super guy.
