I am an RA at a university in Washington and while my residents gather in my room every Tuesday for "Queer Eye," we all agree that we would like to have the Fab 5 come work on us! Expand to include us girls!

First, I would like to thank "vitterschass" for his attention to my message.

And I am very surprise that I made "ticktick" over-reacted to my thread.

Behind the FAB5 show, yes they make it a good presentation to make it an ONE DAY magic and lead us into fantasy. But I also know that in the reality there is a lot of people unnamed to do lots of work behind the show. In our real life there is too much pains and suffers, why we have to be too serious to believe the behind truth?

I never question about their professionals. But we know that there are more professional and talented people around the world. As you said they have already done the hard yards in academia and 9 to 5'ing. but most of people also do the same thing. I just want to learn about the X-factors why and how they are standing out in the front. What I quote clearly that "Gay" is one of their successful elements in "Group term". It is just my observation about why the show is successful. At least the show emphasis about gay people and make gossips and peoples awareness. I didn't mean about quoting "Gay" in my resume can make me famous.

Dreaming is always easy but make a dream come true is difficult. I know how much talents I have and I am still believe my dream will come true one day. The main problem for me is about how to plan my steps to achieve the goal faster. Just like how we travelling to a far desination by taking a bus or just walking. And making myself famous is always about the problem of "chance" and "opportunity" About that I believe I don't have enough luck. In the real life I can only to keep myself strong, maintain my abilities, keep myself survive, and wait for someone to "discovering" me.

I am just a stranger in your point of view. So, you may think that it isn't a problem to become successful and famous and just take it easy. But I am sorry, due to my personality problem I always take those in serious way. "vitterschass" said it right, it is a "New Year" symdrome. Especially when I make an conclusion about last year and I thought about myself worked very hard for that goal but didn't have a little reward in return. Also I thought myself living in a world that full of "contradiction". Those exhausted feels come out and still not recovered in 4 Jan 2004.

PS. Do the Fab 5 view this forum? (Oh I am dropped in the fantasy again.)
vitterschass
just want to say, strongly agree with you, ticktick.

only the people who have prepared can seize the chances to be succeed.Only yearning is useless. The "make betters" can change because they have got the potential inside, Fab 5 only help them to "bring out the best" in them.

But I can understand why ngarngar said that... let me explain that the culture in Hong Kong is different, I can say, Hong Kong-made TV programs make people stupid, and auidence can be tired of a program in a very very short time and never examine and appreciate how "professional" the production team is. Sorry to say that QEFTSG is not a hit show here, I've recommended this show to so many people and...haha, only one try to see and not many people discuss it in our western tv program newsgroup and the other newsgroups and forums (they love drama more, I only can see no more than 5 posts of QEFTSG!)

That's why ngarngar only can focus on "gay" is the "element of success" this show.....he/she only see the "surface" and ignore the effort of the QEFTSG production team and the difference of this shows from the other reality shows.

Go back to the "yearning" of ngarngar, I only hope he/she can know a show/people should have grounded elements to be succeed, only a "sounding" element can't make the success last long.

As I've said before, try more/see more new things, widen your sight and see beyond the surface, you'll learn more, enjoy more and get more even when seeing a TV program....

(below is "yearning of a QE fan", can be ignored...tongue.gif)
OMG, I'm so addicted to this show and still browsing all the fansites and forums of it at mid-night(HK time)....hope TVB will buy the next next next seasons....hope the DVD will be outed soon....January is such a long month...I'll searched hard in Kazza in Feb again...

I'm not into the Lord of the Rings stuff, but I thought that your Queer Eye for the Hobbit Guy was hilarious!
nellybell27
Okay,

I was looking at this website called: str8girlseyeonthefab5, and she had photos of the F5 on Howard Stern. When did this happen?
Howard Stern used to come on in New Orleans, but it was cancelled. I know they show it on E channel on cable. Will the guys be on Howard's E show?

Also, when will new episodes be on. I don't have cable, but I plan on getting it soon, and I don't want to miss the new episodes.
blackrose04
I just have 2 say that I just recently got in2 QE and now I'm obsessed w/it! I just wish they could spread out their makeovers. There is one thing that has been bothering me though. I've being hearing that one of the fab 5 isn't gay. If nebody can clear up this rumor just give me some sort of a reply. Thanx.
tmtokill
They appeared on the Howard Stern Show on August 11, 2003. I didn't catch the show but found the photos so I put them up. The Straight Eye Site has a recap here:
http://straighteye.com/archives/2003/08/13...rdate_81103.php

Also, Anyone who has any qe appearances on tape and would like to include them on my site please let me know and we can make some sort of arrangement. I am currently adding some qe appearance vids to the site and they should be fully up by this time next week with any luck!(Good Morning Miami for one example.)
Enjoy!
vitterschass
So glad to see your reply and know that you understand and value the effort of the whole team of the show.

I agree ticktick is over-reacted but I agree with his/her opinion. After seeing your last post he/she can have a better understanding of your words.

Let's get the discussion back to the show, as you've read my last post talked about not many people interested in this show...how do you feel?

Another thing is:
I always listen to english when watching the Pearl channel shows. But last week I suddenly wondering about how the "cantonese commentary" would be liked, so I switch to the "cantonese channel"......OMG it's very very very terrible! They keep on speaking rubbish!
ngarngar
vitterchass, Thanks again for your thread.

Anyway I think I've given an impression to everybody that I am too "naive". Well, I am just want to write something "stupid" to release my tension in my life.

I am not fully influenced by the TVB made "stuff", For those stupid programs I have one effective solution, "Turn it off!". Until the Saturday QEFTSG show. I also turn off "TVB" alternative "NICAM Chinese commentative" in QE Because the commentatives by TVB just made the show like zoo animal watching I think (the commentators are awful). And of course I am not just find the Gay elements only in the show. I appreciate the FAB 5 talents and what they have done.

About the Hong Kong culture mentioned by Vitterschass. Yes, I agree with him. I think Hong Kong lacks of "diversity" and "creativity". These are the obstacles for me that living in Hong Kong. I've read one article from job magazine about the degree of a city's diversity and creativity can be reflected from how the citizens accept Gay or not. And I think Hong Kong is........and San F. is.......(here 1000 words elimated). My job is related to the creativity sector and I think I am one of the casualties here.

Yes, the QE show reflects the other side of the world with more diversity and freedom.
vitterschass
actually...carson is straight...he admitted that in the Oprah show...

just kidding.....it's a rumor...just a rumor...from long time ago...

Thank You.

And to facilitate your greater undertanding of the show's working "concept", here are some additional words for your lexicon:-

Blatant product placement. Conspicuous and avid consumerism. Homage to ostentation. And the plain old fashioned need for greed - gimme free stuff.

Gawping at the gays is now officially "du jour." A delicious frisson for Middle America, over morning coffee and around the lunch-counters - speculating on which cast member is doing whom - and aren't those gays so gosh-darned cute and funny.

But while the show of shows, is beaming into the lounges of America - I am still denied the right to get my little self married in nine out of ten countries.

But I should be content with my lot in life, right? - after all, has it not just been revealed to me, that like "my kind," I have the gift of impeccable dress sense and a to-die-for housefull of chic European electrical appliances.

Ah, there lies the root of frustration - you feel you're being stereotyped for everyone's entertainment. Well you have the right to vent every now and then as long as you keep some things in mind.

1. The world is going to always look at one "kind" of people a certain way. I'm black and HECK YEAH I like fried chicken, BUT - I also like smoked salmon. They say white people can't dance BUT look at Barryshnikov (yes, ballet counts); the boy is poetry in motion while my daughter (my poor child) is just now finding a beat good. What does all this mean? It means don't let generalities get to you - recognize yourself as an individual. Sure you may embody...imbody?...one moment please...

*brings up Webster's Online Dictionary*

Ok I was right..."AHEM"...you may embody some of societies stereotypical elements of being gay but that doesn't mean that the complete stereotype is what you are.

2. Product placement that everyone harps about is necessary to get products for the show. That's how they first got their foot off the ground and they've continued along the same line. It should be noted, via an interview with Kyan (link is at home), they would not use anything on the show that they personally did not believe in...whether the product is cheap or expensive, I believe what he says.

3. Yes greed may be a motivator for some of these men BUT, you are looking at the ground and not the panarama. Look around you; look at these boards. Can you not see what has happened? People are actually starting to take better care of themselves! And it's not just here in the states, it's worldwide! They don't expect the Fab 5 to show up at their door and give them free stuff, they are doing it on their own - and it's a WONDERFUL thing. I wore a red dress on xmas eve, a friggin red dress! Do you know what I was going to do with that dress before QE? I was going to sell it. And I use a facial wash now instead of antibacterial soap and my skin is looking and feeling better than ever - if not for QE I would have kept using soap on my face. There is far FAR more good that has come from QE than could have ever been imagined.

4. Lastly, I do not think of you as just a gay man, tick - I think of you as a person. And for quite some time now (past the initial "omg" phase), I have thought of the boys the same way. Yes they are gay and no I can't have Thom (at least not when I'm awake) but before all that, I think of them as five GREAT guys. Now, part of accepting them as "just people" (so to speak) is accepting them as who they are. They are gay men. That's what they say, that's what I have to believe. Now if we were not accepting them as the gay men they are, then you know you would be having a hissy fit...come on, don't deny it, I see you smiling!

It's a crazy briar patch of intertwined thoughts I've expressed but they all stem from one seed and branch out from there. I'm always going to think the boys are cute (my husband is FOYNE!) and I'm always going to think of them as funny (especially Carson, he can't NOT be funny) and there is nothing wrong with that because it is only part of who they are, not the complete package of who they are.

{{{BIG HUG}}}

As i was watching QE the other night, I was thinking, these messy men are sometimes married or living with their partner, and the house is a mess. OK, WHATS WRONG WITH THESE WOMEN THAT THEY LIVE IN A PIGSTYE!!!!! .... it also reflects on the women ya know. The guys are not just slobs... this idea came to me when watching the one with Adam Z........ ps.. and I'd like to know on the marathon how come Bravo did not select MORE choices for old episodes to watch? I would have luved seeing some of them. Maybe they have a legal issue and cant show em. I miss some of em..!

Hissy fit over.....well, for today, anyway.

K, I'll come out of the bathroom, where I have locked myself in, sitting on the toilet with the lid down having a little "princess moment" and a whooping, bawling weep into my screwed up hanky.

(Thinking to myself)....I wonder if I can get the door open again....I have been slamming it so hard lately.

This tear-stained little queen might have to squeeze out through the window fan-light and down the drainpipe. I will have to take off my crinoline-hoop and do it in my....OMIGAAAAD...I forgot, I am wearing those washed-out boxers I had meant to put in the dustbin.

Shinning down the drainpipe, in dowdy underwear....still sobbing and sniffing.....with my yellow-diamond tiara hanging over one eyebrow.

When gays go bad. Public Warning!!

When you have a little queen in the house......there will be laughter and gaiety and parties till dawn....but, and it is a big but.........if you are wondering what that noise like distant artillery-fire is - listen carefully.....you will be able to detect the nerve-jangling sound of slammed doors jarring off their lintels, Waterford bouncing off the mantel-piece and distant heart-breaking sobbing and screams from the en-suite.

If you let a little queen into your life, you had better hope you have two bathrooms in your apartment - 'cos one of them is always going to be permanently "engaged" with a royal, blue-blooded divinity, shredding a hanky into ribbons. Emerging with panda-eyes and needing a hug.

Little queens with pedigrees, are a high-maintenance pet and may not be for the beginner hobbyist.

I was being extra terse with the person from Hongkong, because I thought "Honey, if you haven't worked out that each make-over takes a minimum of 3-4 days to create, then you probably do regard televison as some kind of Cargo Cult."

The show's success has got something to so with the "post 9/11" comforting that Americans are looking for.

I can't work out the mindset (or the fractured English, if the truth be told), of the HK poster. Are they male? Are they queer?

Now, a red dress cher' should be something to celebrate the holidays in!

So, tell me....is the red based on a blue palette or a red based on yellow palette?

I am blond and fair-skinned so I can wear reds - but ONLY reds based on yellow. Blue reds make me look sickly.

Carson was wearing the most divine orange woollen top in the programme I have just seen.

Orange is a very "enlivining" colour to cheer yourself up with, if you are feeling down or the weather is bleak.

Carson looked just totally darling. But he is quite fair (after the highlights go in) and wears these purples and light lavenders that are very blue. I did like the cut of the front of the shirt he was wearing though. On the bias cutting elevates a shirt from mere clothing to art.

You can wear blue-tones only if you can wear silver.....but blondes look best in yellow tones and gold based palette, otherwise you look pallid and washed-out.

Carson has a longish nose with an end that "colours" in the cold air. Wearing blue-based colours draws attention to your poor little chapped nose-tip.

I can wear scarlet. I can wear orange.

However, I can't wear yellow at all.

I'm pretty sure the dress was of the blue palette; it was not that bright cherry or fire-engine red, those don't work with me right now. I used to wear reds alot when I was in my teens. The summers would turn my skin a honey-red (still happens if I let it) and the brighter reds were more complimentary. This year I'm going to try to update my wardrobe a bit with colors. I'm not into orange but would love to try russet. Blues and greens seem to work with me as long as I don't match them; like Carson said, different textures and/or patterns but match the tone...accentuates the positive and hides the negative

I could NEVER EVER wear yellow (UGH)! White is not a favorite color to wear either. The look I want to go for in the future is that of a studious librarian (I heard that gasp) but with enough color to say "I'm not always this laid-back".

You know, I'm finding that all this change is a serious process!

If you really want to see those episodes that you haven't seen, then try downloading them off of KaZaA. I don't know what kind of internet connection you have, but even if you've just got a dial-up connection, you may still be able to get the episodes sooner than it will take for Bravo to re-air them. Whether you want to try downloading them or not is up to you, but at least you've got that option available.

Work with me here, 'k, honey. Your English is a still a little bizarro....

Blue. Blue-blood.

Explain - What is this "shame thing?"

Blue-blooded is historically a reference to one's refined breeding - the social wannabe's of the 18th C used to make up for their dubious pedigrees and dodgy social connections, by tracing the pathways of veins on their arms with "blue-vein" inks so they could hook into the 18th C celeb scene.

The aristocracy never had to do stoop labour in the fields like the peasantry - so they were pale and their veins were visible in their pale skin. Suntanned skin was a frowned upon - a low social status give-away.

They never allowed their skin to be sullied by strong sunlight and this was a clear statement to society that they were sooooo damned rich they could get others to do their labouring for them.

I am an imperious Empress, an exquisite blue-blooded divinity........in other words just ya average little Fairy Queen.

Blue has another reference to pornographic material or salacious jokes.

Though they use the same base word "blue" the terms are not related and are not interchangeable.

Fluidity in your conversational English will advance you in your career aspirations.

I still can't work out if you are male or female.

{{{{Lawdy}}}} Now, I am doing the "culture" segment.

I think I am going to ask for a salary raise.

OH. MY. GOSH. an episode of South Park was making fun of Queer Eye just now, on Comedy Central. it was about how like the show was taking over all the men in town and making them all feminine and have good manners, and such. you know. I swear, I didn't know whether to be pissed or to be... happy. you know. because it was about how Queer Eye was taking over the city with their TV show and they had to be stopped. do you think that's like... a big joke? or do the writers of South Park just hate the show? it confused me. >.<;;

then again South Park has a bunch of racist jokes that they never mean either. maybe I‘m just paranoid. ^ ^; and it was insanely funny. but I really have no idea.

My English may be got a little error, because my niece threw away my grammar books. But I think you needn't to notice me about what "Blue-blooded" means. A simple form of explaination is about the "Noble" or "Royal" class, right? But I think this term is honoured by someone, not being used by someone who is always yelling that term all time. You don't worth that honour, in my POV. What I know is the status of "blue-blooded" is declining due to their bad virtues and external love affairs which are reported by public medias.

And about "IT" and "ITSELF", I think you'd better think about why I use these words.

May be a little suggestions for you: please learn how to respect yourself and the others, and keep your poise and glamour to maintain your declining "blue-blooded" term A LITTLE BIT longer.

I was having a search for greetings today at www.beatgreet.com and I came across one where the Fab Five meet Tony Soprano. If you go to the site and then look for hot artists, its called Queer Eye and the mob guy.

If you are in the Queen city

I used to be in the Queen city but unfortunately I'm so far away from it now that the "tap-tap of imperious boot-heels" has become faint and distorted by the deafening silence in this forsaken town I am now forced to call home...

As a 16 year old male in Atlanta, GA upper-middle class society, I am forced to live a closeted life. My parents, ardent homophobic southern baptists, have actually discussed with me (though not pertaining to me) the "sin" of homosexuality and how gay people should ignore what they want to do because its wrong, just as someone might ignore the fact that they want to murder someone because it is wrong. I have debated their views and they know where I stand, attempting to convince them that a gay relationship is no different than a "straight" one. "Despite what you think, its not all about sex!" I told them. Therefore, I accepted the fact that I would never come out in high school and looked forward to college.
Fortunately, however, a close friend of mine decided he trusted me enough and discussed his homosexuality with me. For several weeks I didn't mention my own views as I had lots to think over. I later told him that what I had hoped he would say and we've been dating ever since (FIVE MONTHS!!!).
However, life is extremely hard sometimes as we can not be ourselves nor express our feelings toward each other except for in the company of 1-2 people. I sometimes get down about my future and don't know what to expect. Then, every Tuesday night, I turn on Bravo and watch Queer Eye. The show fills me with such hope and joy and anticipation for the future. I see these five men and think that I, too, could one day be this open and truly act as myself around others. This show provides inspiration and is one of the few joys in my life right now. I love all five of you and commend every one of your endeavors.
Thank you for everything you've done. You help me to refuse all doubts and/or suspisions I may have about myself. I feel happy and completely myself when I watch your show (in private from my parents) and I don't know how to express the love I have for all of you deep in my heart. Thank you for everything, the joys and the memories!

My best friend just phoned and told me that my Kyan and Jai are going to be at a Home Builders' Expo type show on Sunday, Jan. 11th! They are doing a question and answer thing and then an autograph session. I am seriously trying to find a cheap air fare from Texas. I may pass out if I ever get to meet Kyan in person. What would I say? What would I wear? ACK!!!!

Oops Sorry! "Blue-blooded" is an negative wording in HK, especially IT call ITSELF "Blue-blooded". That wording in HK always related to "scandals". I feel awful.

Oh you really have said that! I can't believe you allow yourself to say that....that's not smart. I got dizzy...

I fall into a faint.

It is not wise to crack back in a forum. Just like yelling "This is personal!" and start a fight publicly.

may be I'm not smart too....through posting this..
So anyway, that's my point.
